L.D. Goodman
L.D. Goodman, 60, of Parma, Mo., died Monday, July 15, 2002, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Born June 6, 1942, in Joiner, Ark., son of Jackie Marie Goodman, of Norman, Ark. and the late Amos Lee Goodman, he was a farmer.
On Dec. 1, 1961, in Joiner, he married
Patsy Ann Franks, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include two daughters, Keila Marie Emery, of Risco, Mo. and Vickie Sue Prchal, of Parma; one son, Donnie Ray Goodman, of Malden, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Will and Alicia Emery, both of Risco, Brian, Terrie and Kerrie Neeley, all of St. Mary's, Ohio and Ashley and Katie Goodman, both of Malden; two brothers, Leeman Goodman, of Portland, Ore. and Charles Eugene Goodman, of Boyd, Texas and five sisters, Lavetra Marie Rich, of Meridian, Miss., Margarette Evaline Pruitt, of Byhalia, Miss., Mary Jo Hunter, of Gaffney, S.C., Latrease Ileane Page, of Millington, Tenn. and Qulia Ann Goodman, of Wright City, Okla.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Sue Goodman. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Parma.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 19, at the Stanfield cemetery in Clarkton, Mo. with the Rev. Frank Townsend officiating.
William Grindstaff
William Peter Grindstaff, 102, of Ann Arbor, Mich., formerly of Campbell and Bernie, Mo., died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at St. Jospeh Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor.
Born Dec. 13, 1899, in Patton, Mo., son of the late John H. and Effie Nugent Grindstaff, he was a farmer, a night watchman and a gardener. He was a member of the Bethany General Baptist Church in Campbell.
On Oct. 27, 1932, he married
Mary Inez Haynes, who preceded him in death on Feb. 14, 2000.
Survivors include three daughters, Edith M. Anderson and husband, David A., of Saline, Mich. and Mary Ann H. Dunn and Rebecka K. Andress, both of Ann Arbor; one son, William J.H. "Jack" Grindstaff and wife, Lynn, of Poway, Calif.; six grandchildren, Kimberly K. Dunn Rummel, of Tallahassee, Fla., John D. Anderson, of Ann Arbor, Elizabeth C. Dunn, of Chicago, Ill., Jeffrey T. Andress, of Lake Jackson, Texas, Brian C. Andress, of Fostoria, Mich. and Heather S. Grindstaff, of Las Vegas, Nev. and four great-grandchildren, McKensie S., Whitley B. and Emerson J. Rummel, all of Tallahassee and Dillon M. Andress, of Fostoria. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Hursel, Lester, Clinton and Lloyd and four sisters, Maude Kildow, Pearl Morgan, Mary Britt and Mildred Stout.
A memorial service was held today, Wednesday, July 17, in Ann Arbor.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, July 19, at the Landess Funeral Home in Campbell.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bryan Johnson and Dawsey Lee Brown officiating.
Burial will follow at the Bethany cemetery in Campbell.
The family suggests memorials may be made to the Bethany General Baptist Church or Bethany cemetery Fund.
Gloria Herron
Gloria Jean Herron, 44, of Hayti, Mo., died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, in Memphis, Tenn.
Daughter of Willie Mae Hampton, of Kennett and Roosevelt Fowler, of Turrell, Ark., she was a nurse's aide and a member of the Order of Eastern Star and Morning Star Baptist Church in Steele, Mo.
Survivors also include three daughters, Beulah McBride, Renalda Herron and Tina McFerrin, all of Blytheville, Ark.; three sons, LaKeith Robinson, of Hayti, Nathan Herron, of Steele and Dewayne Robinson, of Kileen, Texas; six sisters, Minnie Smith, of Blytheville, Pearline and Brenda Hampton, both of Kennett, Elizabeth Johnson, of Arizona, Ollie Hampton, of Oklahoma and Diane Hampton, of Houston; five brothers, L.D. Hampton, of Georgia, Larry, Issac, and Tyrone Hampton, all of Kennett and Charlie Hampton, of Arizona and eight grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 17, at the Collins Mortuary Chapel in Blytheville. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at the Revival Center in Blytheville with Pastor Charles Warman officiating.
Burial will follow at the Sandy Ridge cemetery in Burdette, Ark.
Al Johnson
Al Johnson, 71, of Henderson, Ky., formerly of Kennett, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at Henderson.
He worked for the United States Department of Agriculture as a poultry inspector and at Murray State University in maintenance. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Marcia L. Johnson; two daughters, Deborah J. "Debbie" Hein, of Henderson and Melinda Johnson Lovett, of Murray, Ky.; one son, Robert Stephen Johnson, of Madison, Ala.; one sister, Judith Johnson, of Cadiz, Ky. and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 17, at the Tapp Funeral Home in Henderson.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July18, at the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Murray with Gary Puryear officiating.

Jerry Myers
Jerry Myers, 63, of Senath, Mo., formerly of Kennett, died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Three Rivers Health Care North Campus in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Born June 2, 1939, in Kennett, he was the son of the late James E. and Laura Winchester Myers.
Survivors include one son, Jerry Myers, of Columbia, Mo.; two daughters, Laura Myers and Betty Peoples, both of Columbia; one brother, Ronald Myers, of Kennett; two sisters, Anna Hobbs, of Senath and Rosalee Chism, of Kennett; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Leanna Myers; three brothers and one sister.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, at the Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett.
McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett was in charge of arrangements.
Hubert Petty
Hubert Petty, 77, of Kennett, died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at his residence.
Born Aug. 28, 1924, in Senath, Mo., son of the late William and Sylvia Long Petty, he was a member of the Third Street Baptist Church.
On Sept. 19, 1946, he married
Marcelle Hatcher, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one son, Jerry Petty, of East Alton, Ill.; six daughters, Phyllis Brandon, Mary Jane Damron and Deborah Ivy, all of Kennett, Linda Padgett, of St. Louis, Mo., Betty Winfrey, of Columbia, Mo. and Teresa Rowton Carter, of Florence, S.C.; one brother, W.L. Sturgeon, of Kennett; one sister, Donna Poole, of Blytheville, Ark.; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, July 17, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.
Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery at Kennett.
Pallbearers were Scott Brandon, Chad Pitts, Shane Petty, Mark Rowton, Dustin Ivy and Tommy Poole.
Bobby Stacy
Bobby Gene Stacy, 71, of Kennett, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark. Born Dec. 28, 1930, in Essex, Mo., son of the late Virgel and Lorene Wright Stacy, he was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Korea and was in the auto parts business.
On Sept. 21, 1953, in Kennett, he married
Gearline Smith, who survives of the home.
Survives also include three sons, Doyle and Tony Stacy, both of Kennett and Steven Stacy, of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; one daughter, Debbie Stacy, of Kennett; one brother, L.G. Jaco, of Breedsville, Mich.; three sisters, Helen Adams, of Corning, Ark., Carolyn Ampey, of Gobles, Mich. and Shelby Sullins, of Bangor, Mich.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 17, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Vodie Jackson and Larry Dugger officiating.
Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery at Kennett. Pallbearers were Jim Moody, Bob Holder, James Waynick and Michael, Brian and Keith Stacy.
Honorary pallbearers were Don and Terry Key, Jimmy Rasberry, Danny Goodman and Frankie Campbell.

Angela Darlene Myers Thompson, 39, of Clarkton, Mo., died Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at Three Rivers Health Care North Campus in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Leslie Barnett
Leslie David "Sonny" Barnett, 66, of Clarkton, Mo., died Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at Three Rivers HealthCare North in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Born Aug. 30, 1935, in Bradford, Ark., son of Nellie Mae Wells Barnett, of Campbell, Mo. and the late Everett Leslie Barnett, he was of the Pentecostal faith.
On Oct. 7. 1967, in St. Louis, Mo., he married
Barbara Ann Jordan, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include five sons, Mark Morris, of Campbell, John Barnett, of Kennett, David Barnett, of Marmaduke, Ark. amd James and Larry Barnett, both of Qulin, Mo.; four daughters, Nellie and Lezley Barnett, both of Clarkton, Norma Knighten, of St. Claire, Mo. and Sandy Brown, of St. Louis; two brothers, Edd Barnett, of Campbell and Ray Barnett, of Parker, Ariz.; five sisters, Joann Rodery, of Bernie, Mo., Eve Kraasch, of Cedar Hill, Mo., Lois Wink, of Florissant, Mo., Bernice Kabak, of Melville, Mo. and Faye Ochman, of Texas; 21 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Annie Garrett
Annie Lee Garrett, 87, of Portageville, Mo., died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at the Portageville Nursing Center in Portageville.
Born June 29, 1915, daughter of the late John Arthur and Martha Jane Smith Weed, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Portageville.
On Oct. 12, 1931, she married
Thomas Arvin Garrett, who preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1980. She was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Arvin Thomas Barnett and David Michael Gilmer; one brother, Jake Weed and three sisters, Olean Weed and Ruby and Louise Mercer.
Survivors include one son, Arvin Jimmy Garrett, of Jefferson City, Mo.; three daughters, Ella Mae Gilmer, of Jonesboro, Ark., Betty Barnett, of Portageville, Mo. and Martha Mercer, of Ashland, Miss.; two brothers, George B. Weed, of Hayti, Mo. and Willie Weed, of Portageville; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Bill Pierce
William Dean "Bill" Pierce, 42, of Rome, Ga, formerly of Kennett, died Monday, July 15, 2002.
Born March 5, 1960, in Parsons, Kan., son of Wanna June Cotton Pierce, of Oklahoma City, Okla. and the late Jospeh Charles Pierce, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard, owner and operator of Pierce Refrigeration, Heating and Air in Kennett and a member of the Christ Gospel Church in Rome.
On Feb. 2, 1984, he married
Rebecca Wheeler, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one daughter, Latisha Pierce, of Rome; five sisters, Rebecca Pierce, Connie Jones, Joyce Ruth, Eva Ellington and Jane Pelts, all of Oklahoma City and four brothers, Danny and Frank Brown and Joe Pierce, all of Oklahoma City and Ronnie Pierce, of Springfield, Mo.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Georgetta Brown.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, July 18, at the Henderson and Sons Funeral Home in Rome.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 19, at the Christ Gospel Church in Rome with the Revs. Rocky Calvert and Joe Williams officiating.
Burial will follow in Rome Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jeremiah Veillon, James Pendleton, Derral Kent, Joe Pierce, Jacob Calvert and Raul Santa Maria.
Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon Davidson and Gene Hunt.
