Helen Chambers
Helen Grace Chambers, 85, of Chesterfield, Mo., formerly of Malden, Mo., died Sunday, Oct. 13, at Delmar Gardens Nursing Home in Chesterfield.
Born Sept. 14, 1917, in Malden to the late Nathan and Alice Mosby Wiley, she was a member of the First Assembly of God in Malden.
On Feb. 16, 1946 she married
Earnie Everett Chambers, who preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 1988.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Jennifer Kay Chambers; one son, Sammy Ray Chambers; and two brothers, Elvin and Melvin Wiley.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathy Bundy and husband, Mike, of St. Charles, Mo.; three granddaughters, Jennifer Sarino of St. Charles, Sheila Bundy of Springfield, Mo. and Patricia Bundy of Misawa, Japan; and one sister, Louise Pope of Petersberg, Ind.
Visitation will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, at the First Assembly of God in Malden with the Rev. Dale Shoup officiating. Burial will follow at the Elder cemetery in Campbell, Mo.
Andrew Farmer
Andrew Lee Farmer, 68, of Malden, Mo., died Saturday, Oct. 12, at Bluff Manor Nursing Home in Poplar Bluff, Mo. Born Dec. 15, 1934, in Como, Miss, he was the son of the late Mag McNeal.
Survivors include one brother, Johnny McNeal, of Como. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at Macedonia cemetery in Malden.
Zillah Gentry
Zillah Mozell Gentry, 78, of Kennett, died Sunday, Oct. 13, at the Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Born Oct. 29, 1923, in Trimble, Tenn., daughter of the late Albert and Mable Jackson Graham.
On Oct. 19, 1940 she married
C.A. Gentry, who preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 2000.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, Franklin and Richard Gentry; one daughter, Mary Sue Sprouse; three brothers and one sister.
Survivors include five sons, Bob Gentry and wife, Lynn, of Griffin, Ga., Jack Gentry and his wife, Jana, of Ripley, Miss., Denny Gentry and wife, Matha, of Malden, Mo., Larry Gentry and wife, Janie, of Frisbee, Mo. and Freddy Gentry and wife, Letraonna, of Kennett; one daughter, Pat Baugus of Collins; 20 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held today, Wednesday, Oct. 16, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with Spencer Furby officiating.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Tommy, Mike, Mike, Tyler, Richie, Phillip, Kevin and J.C. Gentry, Steve and David Baugus and David Sprouse.
Robert Higgins
Robert Lee Higgins, 67, of Chicago, Ill., died Saturday, Oct. 5 at Trinity Hospital in Chicago, Ill.
Born Sept. 8, 1935 in Arkansas, he was a son of Clara Mae Winston Higgins Stevenson of Parma, Mo. and the late Grady Higgins. In 1961 he married
Emma Jones, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one son, Raydell Higgins and wife, Shirley, of Indianapolis, Ind., and five grandchildren, Trease, Melissia, Antonette, Clarissa and Raylynn.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Oct. 13, at the Church of God in Christ in Parma, Mo. with the Elder Ronnie Pulley officiating.
Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden was in charge of arrangements.
Arthur Selves
Arthur Wayne Davis Selves, 78, Lenexa, Kan., passed away on October 13, 2002 at Lakeview Village.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 17, 2002 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee with burial following the service at Lenexa cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Overland Park Rotary Club Foundation, P.O. Box 7558, Overland Park, Ks. 62207.
Selves was born in Lewis County, Mo., in 1924 to the Rev. Henry Arthur Selves and Minnie Mae (Davis) Selves. He received his bachelor of arts degree at UMKC. Selves came to the Kansas City are in 1950 and was an English teacher at Shawnee Mission Rural High School, where he met and married
a fellow teacher, Pauline Simcox. They were married
in December 1952.
In 1958, he was named vice principal of Shawnee Mission East High School. In 1962, he was named the principal of the newly opened Shawnee Mission West High School. He served as principal at West until 1971, when he became the Director of Curriculum for the district. In 1973, he became the Director of Secondary Personnel for the Shawnee Mission School District and served in this position until his retirement in 1990.
Selves was an active member and past president of the Overland Park Rotary Club. He was selected as Rotary District Governor from 1992-93, and was named a Paul Harris Fellow.
Surviving family includes his wife, Pauline, of the home; two daughters, Janet Bartlett and her husband, David, of Shawnee Mission, Kan., and Wendy Ball and her husband, Bob, of Windsor, Colo., and one brother, Elden Selves of Kennett.
Charles Berry
Charles David Berry, 50, of West Memphis, Ark., formerly of Kennett, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at his residence.
Son of the late Chuck and Helen Berry, he was a U.S. Army veteran, construction worker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Melanie Dawn Wagster, of South Padre Island, Texas; three brothers, Jim, John and Dac Berry, all of Jonesboro, Ark.; one sister, Laura Beth Collins, of Jonesboro and one granddaughter, Kelsey Alyse Wagster, of South Padre Island.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Yhursday, Oct. 17, at the Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at the Emerson Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Finley officiating.
Burial will be private.
Harley Vails, Sr.
Harley E. Vails, Sr., 87, of Dexter, Mo., died today, Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, at Cypress Point Health Care in Dexter.
Born May 7, 1915, in Holcomb, Mo., son of the late William E. and Virgie A. Mounce Bails, he was a farmer and attended the Vinson General Baptist Church in Essex. Mo.
On Feb. 24, 1940, in Catron, Mo., he married
Anna Laura Cox, who survives.
Survivors also include three sons, Darrell Vails, of Jackson, Tenn., Junior Vails, of Dexter and Michael Vails, of Essex; five daughters, Peggy Rehkop, of St. Charles, Mo., Shirley Blair, of Columbia, Mo., B.J. Vails, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Kimberly Neppl, of Naperville, Ill. and Sheila Vails, of Dexter; four brothers, George Vails, of Puxico, Mo., Charles Vails, of Dexter, Frank Vails, of Campbell, Mo. and Roy Vails, of Ocala, Fla.; five sisters, Armada Valentine and Gerline Gregory, both of Dexter, Ulah Owens, of Bernie, Mo., Lola Thomas, of Stuarts Draft, Va. and Nadine Donalson, of Rockford, Ill.; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Maxine Lester and Joyce Arnold.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at the Wakins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Doyle Corlew officiating.
Burial will follow at the Dexter cemetery.
David Flanagan
David Houston Flanagan, 44, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Steele, Mo., died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at Bentaub General Hospital in Houston.
Born Sept. 19, 1958, in Sikeston, Mo., son of Bea Jaco Flanagan, of Steele and the late Charles Flanagan, he was a U.S. Army veteran and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his fiance, Cindy Cavenaugh, of Houston; one son, David Houston Flanagan, Jr., of Clarkton, Mo.; one daughter, Susan Flanagan, of Piggott, Ark.; one sister, Deborah Lackey, of Keiser, Ark.; two half-brothers, Charles and Cole Flanagan, both of Steele; one half-sister, Gayla Willett, of Kennett; one granddaughter, Emily Flanagan, of Clarkton and two grandsons, Chris and Brandon, of Piggott.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 18, at the Bradshaw-Powell Funeral Home in Steele.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Bradshaw-Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harold Norton officiating.
Burial will follow at the Mt. Zion cemetery in Steele.
Martha Taylor
Martha Gertie Taylor, 100, of Malden, Mo., died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at Malden Nursing Center.
Born Nov. 18, 1901, in Senath, Mo., daughter of the late William Louis Palmer and Ollie Lee Dial, she was in farming, a homemaker and a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Malden.
She married
William Lanier, who preceded her in death in 1960, Taylor Karnes, who preceded her in death in 1967, Charley Pyle, who preceded her in death in 1980 and Troy Taylor, who preceded her in death in 1999. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Joe and Van Lanier, a daughter-in-law, Adell Lanier and a great-grandson, Jimmy Lanier.
Survivors include one son, Glenn Lanier, of New Madrid, Mo.; two daughters-in-law, Ivy Lanier, of Florissant, Mo. and Lorene Kilhofner, of St. Louis, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Barbara Livonia, of DeRidder, La., Pat Murphy, of Chesterfield, Mo., Jim and David Lanier, both of Florissant, Wayne Lanier and Nancy Robertson, both of Lawrenceville, Ala., Susan Hobbs, of Waxhaw, N.C., Mary Lanier, of Solona Beach, Calif. and Jane Culp, of Clarkton, Mo.; 19 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Landess Funeral Home in Malden.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Keith Garland officiating.
Burial will follow at the Memorial Park cemetery in Malden.
Pallbearers will be Wayne, David and Jim Lanier, Gary Murphy, Mark Clayton and David Culp.
Donald Bost
Donald Bost, 69. of Kennett, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, the Baptist Hospital in Blytheville, Ark.
Born Aug. 26, 1933, in Paragould, Ark., son of the late Al and Lydia Alice Guien Bost, he was a U.S. Army veteran and worked for City Light, Gas & Water in Kennett.
On Oct. 2, 1954, in Hernando, Miss., he married
Dorothy Sissom, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include two sons, Donald R. Bost, II and wife, Janice, of Alexander City, Ala. and Steve Bost and wife, Angie, of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; one daughter, Lisa Underwood and husband, Wayne, of Stevenville, Md.; two brothers, Bill Bost, of Fort Meyers, Fla. and Wayne Bost, of Senath, Mo. and 10 grandchildren, Krystal, Lance, Katie and John Curtis Bost, all of Alexander City, Daniel, Sam, Leslie amd Will Bost, all of Poplar Bluff and Benjamin and Gabriel Underwood, both of Stevenville.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Bost and one brother, Winfred Gene Bost.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Don Emery officiating.
Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery at Kennett.
Pallbearers were Richard Jenkins, Jerry Laster, Don Shipman, Joey Hamlett, Thad Loggins and William 'Bubba' Potts. Honorary pallbearers were The Dunklin County Sheriff's Department, Corky Dalton, Robert Craig, George Paul Harris, Tom Striegel, Larry Jones, Jim Toombs, Don Key, John Wilder, Chris Jenkins and Jerry Young.
Debbie Cook
Debbie Cook, 45, of Sikeston, Mo., formerly of Malden, Mo., died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Born April 26, 1957, in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Opal Carter Collier. On July 5, 1974, in Parma, Mo., she married
James Henry Cook, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one son, James T. Cook, of Sikeston; one daughter, Michelle Dawn Cook, of Sikeston; five sisters, Mavelene Hicks, of Malden, Pauline Adams, of Sikeston, Vickie Bower, of Avon Park, Fla., Juanita Rybinski, of Mulberry, Fla. and Judy Collier, of Mexico, Mo.; three brothers, Jack Collier, of St. Louis, Mo., Ricky Collier, of Modesto, Calif. and Tommy Collier, of Farmington, Mo. and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Tony Collier and one sister, Willadean Collier.
Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donald Wells officiating.
