Betsy Sayre
Betsy Ross Sayre, 76, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at the Heritage Square Nursing Center in Blytheville, Ark.
Born June 21, 1926, in Cottonwood Point, Mo., daughter of the late Gilbert Ross Taylor and Pauline Ferguson Baker, she was co-owner of River Ready Mix and Caruthersille Marine and a member of the Eastwood Memorial United Methodist Church.
On Dec. 21, 1942, in Caruthersville, she married
Tommy Lee Sayre, who preceded her in death on April 12, 1988. She was also preceded in death by one son, Tommy Ross Sayre and one brother, James Gilbert Taylor.
Survivors include one daughter, Diane Sayre, of Caruthersville; two grandchildren, Tammy Sayre and Amy Bullington, both of Caruthersville; three great-grandchildren, Jordan Babcock, Ross Northcutt and Taylor Sayre, all of Caruthersville and one half-brother, James Carl Baker, of Caruthersville.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Eastwood Memorial United Methodist Church in Caruthersville with the Rev. Dwight Chapman and Dr. Paul Currie officiating.
Burial was in the Maple cemetery at Caruthersville.
Pallbearers were Byron Luber, Dennis Harmon, John Clyde Thompson, Ronnie Price, Richard L. Thompson, Glenn Haynes and Troma Jones.
Honorary pallbearers were George Cook, David Phelps, Lavanda White, Ronald Sims, Belton Duncan, Jimmy Bullington and Parker Mehrle.
H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville was in charge of arrangements.
Juanita Benson
Jaunita Ophelia Benson, 63, of Kennett, died Monday, Deec. 16, 2002, at the Heritage Nursing Home in Kennett.
Born Feb. 11, 1939, in Gadsden, Ala., daughter of the late Maurice M. and Ophia Harline Bowling, she was a nurse's aid.
Survivors include two daughters Robin Cuff and Lisa Wheeler, both of Kennett; two sons, Allan Benson, of Advance, Mo. and Greg Benson, of Wells, Mass.; one sister, Virginia Turner, of Wood River, Ill. and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Kennett.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Larry Dugger officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett.
Pallbearers are Ryan Cuff, Matt and Steve Benson, Brandon and Jason Fann and Charles Miller.
Solon Berry
Solon Berry, 77, of Malden, Mo., died today, Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden.
George Borah
C.Y. "George" Borah, 87, of Tuscon, Ariz., formerly of Senath, Mo., died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at the Life Care Nursing Center in Tuscon.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Senath.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Senath with the Rev. Vernon Purser officiating.
Burial will be in the McGrew cemetery at Senath.
Dorothy Hesselrode
Dorothy Moxley Hesselrode, 78, of Kennett, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
Born Jan. 13, 1924, in Nesbitt, Mo., daughter of the late Ira B. and Dixie Lewis Moxley, she was a member of the Slicer Street Church of Christ in Kennett.
On Oct. 19, 1942, she married
Robert Hesselrode, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one son, Bob Hesselrode and wife, Billie, of Memphis, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Michael Brannam, of Memphis, Stacy Colvett, of Ft. Collins, Colo., Shelly Bogle, of Wilkesboro, N.C. and Adam Hesselrode, of Searcy, Ark.; one brother, Jerry Moxley, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two sisters, Lucille Wells, of Orlando, Fla. and Betty Hesselrode, of Sikeston, Mo. and two great-gradnchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Pam Brannam and one brother, Claude Moxley.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with Spencer Furby officiating.
Burial was in the Lulu cemetery at Senath, Mo.
Pallbearers were Chester Folkes, Rick Gore, Frank Stuart, Calvin Holt, Larry Metheny and Gaylon Mullins.
Myrtice James
Myrtice Mae James, 90, of Rives, Mo., died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
Born Dec. 27, 1911, in Vina, Ala., she was the daughter of the late John Troy and Jeannie Webb Childers.
On Sept. 10, 1932, she married
Henry Alfred James, who preceded her in death on June 24, 1964. She was also preceded in death by four sons, John Alfred, Gerald Lynn, Rick and Rod James; one daughter, Faye Blocker; three grandchildren, Jarrod Payne, Tim Cline and Twyla Martin; six brothers and one sister.
Survivors include four sons, Donald James, of Blytheville, Ark., Henry and Randy James, both of St. Louis, Mo. and Doyle James, of Adamsville, Tenn.; five daughters, Marie Cline, of Orange Park, Fla., Barbara Martin, of Gulf Breeze, Fla. Pat Jones, of Kennett and Glenda Payne and Renae James, both of Rives; one brother, Tom Childers, of Washington, Mo.; two sisters, Helen Young, of Madisonville, Texas and Hazel Marquart, of Washington; 38 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett with the Rev. Don Emery officiating.
Pallbearers were Donald, Henry, Randy and Doyle James, Terry Payne and Harold Martin.
Honorary pallbearers were Don Blocker and Jim Jones.
Goldie Miller
Goldie Orton Miller, 99, of West Plains, Mo., died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at Westvue Nursing Center in West Plains.
Born April 2, 1903, in Rose Hill, Va., daughter of the late John and Susan Horton, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
She married
Franklin Orton, who preceded her in death and later married
Denver Miller, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by three sons, Clifford, Clyde and Charlie B. Orton.
Survivors include three grandchildren, Robert F. Orton, of West Plains and William Orton and Susan Weeks, both of Caruthersville, Mo.; eight great-grandchildren, Jason, Christa, Jennifer, Michael, Matthew and Mandy and two great-great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Jenson.
Private graveside services were held at 2 p.m. at the Maple cemetery in Caruthersville with the Rev. Rick Rutledge officiating.
Bradshaw-Powell Fiuneral Home of Steele, Mo. was in charge of arrangements.
Charley Branum
Charley Lester Branum, 88, of Kennett, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
Born July 6, 1914, in Hornersville, Mo., son of the late Thomas J. and Alice Hastings Branum, he was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church.
On Sept. 24, 1938, in Kennett, he married
Juanita Lurleen Burk, who preceded him in death on Dec. 17, 1996. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Lee, Milton, Willie and Chester Branum and two sisters, Nellie Hanners and Beryl Holmes.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Brent Branum, of Kennett and James Stephen Branum, of Mabelvale, Ark.; one brother, Tommy Branum, of Kennett; three grandchildren, Stephanie, David and Jennifer Branum and one great-grandchild, Jessica Hernandez.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, Dec. 19, at the Shady Grove Baptist Church in Kennett with the Rev. Jim Lewis officiating.
Burial was in the Lulu cemetery at Senath, Mo.

Charles Cantrell
Charles Fate Cantrell, 61, of Dexter, Mo., died Tuesday, Dov. 17, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Born Nov. 30, 1941, in New Madrid County, Mo., son of the late James Newt and Mattie Semino Cantrell, he was employed by Bush's Canning in Blytheville, Ark. and was a farm laborer.
On March 3, 1978, in Dexter, he married
Melba Carpenter, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include six sons, James Dale Cantrell, of Jonesboro, Ark., William Dewayne Cantrell, of Leachville, Ark., Bobby Newt Cantrell, of Malden, Mo., Charles Edward Cantrell, of Advance, Mo. and Jasper and Charles Brandon Cantrell, both of Dexter; five daughters, Mary Conner, of Sikeston, Mo., Christine, Brittany Santana and Brooke Ann Cantrell, all of Dexter and Marsha Conner, of Clarkton, Mo.; one brother, Ralph Cantrell, of Apopka, Fla.; two sisters, Bonnie Stitz, of Dexter and Cathy Eubanks, of Eureka, Mo.; 26 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Leamon, Junior, Leon and Gene Cantrell; three sisters, Norma Barnett, Collean Burchett and Barbara Brant; one son, Danny Cantrell and one daughter, Doris Gibbs.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Jerry Metcalf officiating.
Burial will follow at the Walker cemetery near Bloomfield, Mo.

James Damron, 92, of Senath, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
