Franklin Doan Payne
Dec. 15, 1933-Sept. 21, 2004
Franklin Doan Payne, age 70 years, 9 months, 7 days, went home to be with Jesus at 10 p.m., Sept. 21, 2004, at Joplin’s Freeman/West Hospital after a sudden illness.
He was born at rural Rocky Comfort, Mo., on Dec. 15, 1933, to Richard Norman Payne and Mildred Anna Carnell Payne. Frank lived most of his life in and around the Powell area, except for four years he spent in the Navy during the Korean War shortly after graduating from Rocky Comfort High School. He was united in marriage to Louise Day on Dec. 27, 1957, at Miami, Okla. To this union four children were born; Ramona Louise Payne, Timothy Doan Payne Senior, Robert Allen Payne and Franklin Glenn Payne.
Frank is survived by his wife, Louise, of the home; a daughter Ramona and husband, Ken Spears, of Rocky Comfort; three grandsons, Jason Cook and wife, Amanda, of Fairview, Mo., Caleb Spears of Rocky Comfort, Mo., and Timothy Doan Payne, Jr., of the U.S. Army; a step-grandson, Jeremy Spears and wife, Chandi, of Bella Vista, Ark.; three granddaughters, Sonya Colvin and husband, Charlie, of Rocky Comfort, Mo., Ashley Cook of Rocky Comfort, Mo., and Samantha Louise Payne of the U.S. Army; three great-granddaughters, McKensie, Chloe and Madison Colvin; a step-great-granddaughter, Taylor Spears and a step-grandson, Cody Colvin; one sister, Doris Lucille Hamilton of Mano, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Dollay Jean Payne of Anderson, Mo.; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, and a host of many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his three sons and one brother. Frank loved Jesus and was going to the Wheaton First Baptist Church where he gave his life to the Lord about a year ago. He leaves his family with peace knowing that he is at home in heaven where his Savior and loved ones and friends are that have gone on before.
Frank worked as a carpenter for 30 years, then worked at FASC for eight years, retiring in 1997. He loved to fish and hunt. There was nothing he enjoyed more than a good coyote or fox chase. He loved coon hunting with his friends and talking about who had the best coon dog or the fastest running hound, but most of all he loved attending the First Baptist Church and worshipping his Lord.
He was a loving husband and father. He was a special grandfather and great-grandfather and he will be sadly missed by his family and many, many friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wheaton First Baptist Church.
Service was Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Wheaton First Baptist Church. Visitation was from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at the Wheaton Funeral Home with burial at Rocky Comfort Cemetery. The Rev. Gary Culp officiated.
Mildred Irene Robertson
June 6, 1922-Sept. 26, 2004
Mildred Irene Robertson, 82 of Parsons, KS passed away on Sunday September 26, 2004, at 12:03 a.m. in
Labette County Medical Center in Parsons, Kan.
Mrs. Robertson was born on June 6, 1922, to the late Glenn and Ada (Owens) Wylie in Sulphur Springs, Ark. She was raised in Noel, Mo. She married Gerald B. Robertson on Sept. 14, 1946. Being the wife of a serviceman, she made her home in many parts of the United States and also in Japan and England. She was the past president of the officer’s wives club, very active in the Order of the Eastern Star and she also enjoyed golfing and bowling. She was a member of the Noel United Methodist Church in Noel, Mo.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, an infant twin brother, a brother, E. “Nap” Wylie, a sister, Ernestine Coffey and a grandson, Steven Jaskiewicz. Survivors include her husband, Gerald Roberts, a daughter, Susan Beck and husband Dennis of Coffeyville, Kan.; one son, Bryan Robertson and wife Fran of Yucca Valley, Oklahoma State Tech. in l985 with an associates degree in Auto Parts Management. He worked in retail sales for auto parts stores. He loved Harley Davidson motorcycles and race cars.
He was preceded in death by his father and his maternal and paternal grandparents. Survivors include his mother, Barbara Dean and husband Virgil of Cassville, Mo. Also, two brothers, Clarence Frye of Cassville, Mo., and Keith Frye of Lanagan, Mo.; a sister, Elisa Bridgeman and husband Dean of Tulsa, Okla.; four nieces, Faith Bridgeman, Stephanie Zinn, Traci Launius and Karen Bridgeman; two great nieces, and one great nephew.
The funeral service for Lloyd Frye will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at l0 a.m. at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Washburn, MO. The Rev. Sam Mitchell will officiate. Pallbearers will be: Clarence Frye, Paul Dean, Keith Frye, Ed Davis, Dean Bridgeman and Eddie Poe. Burial will be in the Washburn Prairie Cemetery in Washburn, Mo.
Friends may pay their respects on Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at the Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, MO from 9-5 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association or National Kidney Foundation in care of Ozark Funeral Home.
William C. ‘Bill’ Miller
April 30, 1929-Nov. 12, 2004
Services for William C. “Bill” Miller was 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at the First Baptist Church. The Rev. Sam Nichols officiated. Burial followed at Southwest City Cemetery, Southwest City, Mo., under the direction of Rice Funeral Service. Friends visited at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday with the family receiving visitors from 6 until 8 p.m.. Bill passed away Friday, Nov. 12, 2004. He was 75.
Born on April 30, 1929, in Los Angeles County, Missouri. In 1947 he graduated from Southwest City High School. Continuing his education at Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield as well as at Joplin Jr. College. Bill played football for both schools. On June 12, 1949, Bill married Jane Clements in Southwest City, Mo.
During the Korean War, Bill served with the 38th Infantry Regiment, Company L, 2nd Division and was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart. Following his military service, the couple made their home in Tulsa where their three sons were raised. Bill was employed with Byron Jackson/Centrilift, retiring after 25 years of service.
Known by hundreds of young Tulsa athletes, Bill shared his love of sports with a number of area teams. He coached Peewee baseball for the McKinley Rangers, Mitchell Bombers, Mitchell Shamrocks, Mitchell Cardinals and Mitchell Vagabonds. He also coached the Bell Braves the year they won the Prep 13 (7th grade) city baseball championship, and the following year when they played in the Pony League. The Bell Jr. High School Bobcats football team was led by Bill from 1966 to 1973. He was the head coach of the Bobcat JV team when they won the All City Round Robin in 1968 and served as Head Varsity Coach for five seasons, 1969 to 1973.
Twenty-three years ago Bill and Jane made their home in Claremore, Okla., where they were active members of the First Baptist Church of Claremore. He also held memberships in the DAV, VFW, American Legion Post 141, the Korean War Veterans Alliance, Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Second Indian Head Division Association.
Endowed with a servant’s heart, Bill loved people and made friends easily. Visitors to his home never left empty-handed, and if not for Jane’s gentle restraint, he would have gladly given away whatever he had. Bill was a skilled woodworker and gardener. His most treasured times, however, were spent surrounded by his family.
Bill is survived by Jane, his wife and loving companion of 55 years, of their home in Claremore; his sons, Steve and his wife, Connie, of Owasso, Okla., William and his wife, Karen, of Chesterfield, Mo., and Mark of Claremore; his sister, Betty Dixon of Jay, Okla.; as well as eight grandchildren, Ethan, Russell, Anne, Mary, Margaret, Pamela, Samuel and Jennifer and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert Cole Radtke

Robert Cole Radtke, 45, of Sulphur Springs, Ark., departed this life Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, in Rogers, Ark., from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Robert was born Nov. 15, 1958, in Appleton, Wis. He served his country faithfully in the United States Navy, and was proud of his service to his country. On Nov. 15, 1980, his 22nd birthday, he was united in marriage to Margaret Mitchell, and together they shared the last 24 years. Robert was employed by the Galamba Processing Services in Sulphur Springs, Ark. He greatly enjoyed caring for his land, hunting, and most of all spending time with his beloved Margaret.
Robert is survived by his wife Margaret Radtke of the home; his parents, Sherry and Larry Tuttle of Appleton, Wis.; four brothers; three sisters; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside funeral services for Mr. Robert Cole Radtke were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, in the Butler Creek Cemetery near Sulphur Springs, Ark. with the Rev. Anna Lee Jamish officiating. Jason WhiteEagle, Daniel Owens, Dale Owens, Dennis Owens, Rick Genn and Steve Sevak served as pallbearers, and Bobbie Wolf was an honorary pallbearer.
Memorial were directed to the Radtke family and left at the funeral home.
Arrangements were under the personal care and direction of the Ozark Funeral Home of Noel, Mo.
Bert Coleman
Feb. 2, 1936-Nov. 17, 2004
CARL JUNCTION, Mo. - Bert L. Coleman, 68, 5720 County Rd. 290, passed away at 6:45 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo.
Bert was born Feb. 2, 1936, in Seneca, Mo., to the late Bert Ben and Evelyn Dorothy (Sandtorf) Coleman. He was a 1954 graduate of Seneca High School.
Bert married Fern Callaway on Oct. 24, 1958, in the Full Gospel Church, Anderson, Mo. She survives. Additional survivors include two sons, Randy (wife, Laurie) Coleman and Mike Coleman, both of Carl Junction, Mo.; a daughter, Tammy (husband, Joe) Miller, Hartsburg, Mo.; and seven grandchildren, Stephanie Carden, Austin Coleman, Ethan Coleman, Lauren Miller, India Coleman, Logan Miller and Addison Miller.
The most important thing in his life was family. Bert was a loving and devoted husband, daddy and papa.
Bert was owner and operator of Coleman Construction Company for nearly 40 years, and built several homes in Carl Junction, Joplin and the surrounding area. In recent years, Bert installed appliances for several local companies.
Bert was a former member of the Governor’s Mounted Guard, an equine drill team, and attended Frisco Church in Webb City, Mo.
Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at Frisco Church, Webb City, Mo. Pastor Steve Hutchinson officiated. Pallbearers were Steve Daniels, Leroy Hines, George Fort, Bill Buck, Ronald Mason, Jerry Carpenter and Ray Speightz.
Visitation was from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, Kan.

Suzanna Joy Headley
Nov. 18, 2004
Suzanna Joy Headley, infant daughter of James C. and Mary E. Headley, of Anderson, Mo., was stillborn on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, in the St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo.
She is preceded in death by her brother James C. Headley, III, and maternal grandparents Roy and Jane Young.
Suzanna is also survived by her brother, Samual Rex, and twin sisters, Clara Jane, and Tara Jean, and sister Markie Ann Headley; her grandparents, James C. Headley, Sr., of Goodman, Mo., and J.D. and Betty Herrin of Goodman, Mo.; as was as a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services for Suzanna Joy Headley were 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, in the Bentonville City Cemetery in Bentonville, Ark., with the Rev. Gary Rees officiating.
Arrangements were under the personal care and direction of the Ozark Funeral Home, of Anderson, Mo.
