Monroe H. Martin
May 4, 1918-Oct. 30, 2006
Mr. Monroe Harvie Martin, 88, a longtime resident of Anderson, Mo., was called to heaven on Monday, Oct. 30, 2006, at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Anderson, Mo., following a long illness.
Monroe began his journey on May 4, 1918, in Mt. Hersey, Ark., born to Jasper Newton and Elsie Jane (Wallain) Martin. He lived most of his life in McDonald County. Monroe married Helen Linnie Lewis on Oct. 18, 1941, in Anderson, Mo., and together they raised two boys. She preceded him in death on June 4, 1985. He later married Lola Nadine (Walker) Butler on Aug. 23, 1985, on their farm near Anderson and together they enjoyed their golden years. He began his career hauling gas for Tidewater Oil Company, DX and Skelly for 35 years. Monroe owned and operated B & M Skelly in Anderson for 27 years before his retirement. He loved visiting with the public and possibly never met a stranger. Monroe was a known landmark at B & M Tire west of Anderson, where he was sure to greet you with a warm smile and friendly hello. He was very proud of his family, always sharing the many accomplishments with friends and neighbors. Monroe enjoyed farming and worked daily on his dairy farm for many years along with serving two terms on the Anderson School Board. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Monroe is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Nadine (Walker) Martin; three sons, Haskell Martin and wife, Barbara, of Anderson, Bill Martin and wife, Connie, of Anderson, and Jim Stansil of Griffith, Ga.; five daughters, Jeanene Mathia and husband, Jim, of Grove, Okla., Marcella Wasson and husband, Jimmie, of Anderson, Susan Talley and husband, Jerry, of Anderson, Elaine Butler of Anderson and Debbie Smith and husband, Mike, of Grove, Okla.; four sisters, Betty Land of Valley Center, Kan., Helen Burks and Opal Gladden, both of Western Grove, Ark., and Shirley Morris and husband, Raymond, of St. Joe, Ark.; seven grandchildren, Gayla Clay, Craig Martin, Nick Martin, Blake Martin, Kathy Dodson, Jimmy Stansil and Harold Stansil; three great-grandchildren, Chase Martin, Jon Martin and Cole Martin; along with 16 grandchildren from Nadine’s family and 31 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen Linnie Lewis Martin; five brothers, Darrell Martin, Deroy Martin, Junior Martin, Earl Martin and James Martin; along with four sisters, Lula Crow, Myrtle Choate, Maggie Booth and Electa Thrasher.
Funeral services for Mr. Monroe H. Martin was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, at the Exciting Living Word Fellowship Church in Anderson, Mo. The Rev. Cecil Hall officiated. Burial followed the service at the Peace Valley Cemetery in Anderson, Mo. Blake Martin, Nick Martin, Craig Martin, Jimmy Stansil, Harold Stansil and Marcus Pratt honored Monroe’s life by serving as pallbearers.
Visitation was held on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, from 2 until 8 p.m. at the Walker-Dowd Funeral Home Chapel in Anderson, Mo. The family received friends from 6:30 until 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions in loving memory of Monroe can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of the funeral home.

Francis Leroy ‘Roy’ Ragsdale
Jan. 23, 1923-Oct. 17, 2006
HERMISTON, Mo. - Francis Leroy “Roy” Ragsdale died Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Hermiston Good Samaritan Center nursing home at the age of 83.
He was born Jan. 23, 1923, in Pineville, McDonald County, Mo., the youngest of three sons, to Ed and Altha (Wilson) Ragsdale.
In 1942 Roy and brother Glen were the first of the Ragsdales to arrive in Hermiston. Their parents followed shortly and in 1951, oldest brother, James Oakley, and his family arrived from Calif., as well as a host of loving nieces and nephews in California and Oklahoma had talked with him about playing for the OU team, but when his father was killed in 1932, he had to quit school to support his mother and sister.
He enlisted in the US Army on June 29, 1942, and served in Australia and New Guinea in the 405th Military Police Battalion. After his discharge in 1945, he married Ruth Stevenson Farbro on March 16, 1945, in Miami, Okla.
They made their home in Barnsdall, Okla., where he worked for the Bareco Wax Refinery until his retirement in 1972 and Ruth worked for the U.S. Post Office. They had two children, Julia Ann (who died at age 3 in 1951) and Nancy. He was an active member of the Barnsdall United Methodist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Sportsman's Club of Barnsdall, and coached his daughter, Nancy's, softball team. He also participated in rodeos during his early years.
In 1972, Forest and Ruth moved to Southwest City, Mo., and raised Hereford cattle on the family farm that had been in Ruth's family since 1837. They were active participants in the Southwest City United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post #551 of Southwest City.
They were wonderful babysitters for their long-awaited grandsons, Matthew and Ridge.
After Ruth's death on June 28, 1995, Forest married Allene Womack in August of 1996. They spent seven happy years together until her death on Oct. 15, 2003.
In December of 2005, Forest moved to the Grove Nursing Center in Grove, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Julia Ann; his brothers, Oliver Wendall Holmes Nuckolls and Jasper Nuckolls; and his sister, Ida Mae Hare.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Brown, and her fiancé, Ronnie Walker, of Southwest City, Mo.; his grandsons, Matthew Brown and his fiancée, Patricia Scanlon, of Kansas City, Kan., and Ridge Brown, and his fiancée, Mendi Griffith, of Bella Vista, Ark.; step-children, Jeannie Campbell and her husband, Gary, of Bella Vista, Ark., and Richard Womack of Englewood, Fla.; two nieces, Janet Calif., and Yvonne McIntire of Joplin, Mo.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Dorothea Eppard of Goodman, Mo.; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for Grace Ellen Adams will be 10 am. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at the Banner Church of the Nazarene north of Anderson, Mo., with Pastor Bill Hess officiating. Burial will follow in the Banner Cemetery. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers will be Kenneth Classen, Everett McIntire, Dennis Adams, Clyde Davidson, Dale Eppard and Larry Lankford. Honorary pallbearers are Gary Classen and Mark deJong. The family received friends on Wednesday evening from 5 until 7 in the Ozark Funeral Home Chapel in Anderson, Mo. Memorials are being directed to the Banner Cemetery care fund and contributions may be left at the funeral home. Norma Fern Ash
Nov, 20, 1931-Nov. 3, 2006
Norma Fern Ash, 74, of Weir, Kan., was called to heaven peacefully at 12:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo., after a short illness.
Fern began her journey on Nov. 20, 1931, in Goodman, Mo., next to the oldest of 12 children born to the late Conley Carl and Theresa Bernice (Johnson) Bellamy. She was united in marriage to Willard Craig Ash, Sr. in Anderson, Mo., on March 26, 1948, and to this union nine children were born. Norma and Willard spent the first five years of their life together in Anderson, Mo. They later moved to Joplin before settling their family in Galena, Kan., where they lived for 33 years. Willard and Fern later moved to Weir, Kan., where they have resided for the past six years. Fern enjoyed crocheting, gardening and planting flowers. Her family remembers her as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and special friend to many. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren; especially her grandson, David Lyden, who lived with her. Fern had a special place in her heart for her loving pet, Chubby, who misses her dearly. She was a faithful member of the Faith Tabernacle Church in Weir, Kan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 56 years on Dec. 28, 2004; a son, Norman Dale Ash; and a great-grandson, Robbie Pickering.
Fern is survived by nine children, Roger Ash and wife, Ruthie, of Galena, Kan., Henry Ash and wife, Mary, of Fairland, Okla., Conley Carl Ash and wife, Robyn, of Quapaw, Okla., Craig Ash and wife, Vicky, of Centerton, Ark., Fern Channel of Springdale, Ark., Brenda Pickering of Sulphur Springs, Ark., Donna Hayes and husband, Wendell, of Weir, Kan., Sheila Lyden of Pittsburg, Kan., and Betty Wilhite of Springdale, Ark.; four brothers, Alva Bellamy of Galena, Kan., Donnie Bellamy of Galena, Kan., Larry Bellamy of Joplin, Mo., Darrell Bellamy of Springfield, Mo.; seven sisters, Geneva Beaver, Billie Gideon, Carolyn Brown and Loretta Wilkerson all of Joplin, Mo., Joy Dudley of Galena, Kan., Joyce Cole of Springfield, Mo., and Cleta Chappel of Joplin, Mo.; 24 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; as well as host of friends, neighbors and other relatives who will dearly miss Fern and her quiet nature.
Funeral services for Norma Fern Ash were held Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, at 2 p.m. at the Walker-Dowd Funeral Home Chapel in Anderson, Mo. Brother James Fellers and Brother Don Anderson officiated. Burial followed the service at the Tracy Cemetery east of Anderson, Mo. Chris Channel, William Pickering, Derreck Ash, Mike Ash, Nate Marson, Johnny Reffett and Scott Ash honored Fern’s life by serving as pallbearers. Gerald Lewis, Randall Ash and Dennie Shoemaker served as honorary pallbearers. Following the service, the family gathered for food and fellowship at the Crown Life Chapel at 23rd and Annie Baxter Roads in Joplin, Mo.
Friends paid their respects on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, from 4 until 6 p.m. at the Walker-Dowd Funeral Home in Anderson, Mo. The family received friends at that time.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Tracy Cemetery Fund in care of the funeral home.

Craig Joseph Cassick
Nov. 1, 1974-Nov. 2, 2006
Craig Joseph Cassick, 32, of Sulphur Springs, Ark., died Nov. 2, 2006, at Northwest Medical Center of Bentonville. He was born Nov. 1, 1974, in Tulsa, Okla., to Frank and Peggy Sanders Cassick.
He was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Noel, Mo. He graduated from Gravette High School in 1993 with honors and was a member of the FBLA and the National Honor Society. He was also chosen to attend Boys State. He attended Miami NEO in Miami, Okla. He excelled in football, baseball, weight lifting, soccer and wrestling. He was a member of the Sonic Softball Team of Bentonville. He was district manager with Arkansas Democrat. He was a Lance Corporal in the Marines serving in the Persian Gulf War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Persian Gulf (W/1 Star), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (W/1 Star), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
Craig was preceded in death by his grandfathers, AM (Charlie) Sanders and Joseph Cassick, and an Uncle Gerald Sanders.
He is survived by his mother, Peggy Cassick-Morgan of Sulphur Springs; his father, Frank Cassick of Mobile, Ala.; one daughter, Avery Rose Cassick of Bella Vista, Ark.; two sisters, Erika Jayne Tomlin of Greenwood, Ark., and Olivia Lynn Morgan of the home; grandparents, Rita and Frank Fields of Cleora, Okla., and Rose Cassick of Calif., John S. Trotter of Duenweg, Mo., Texas, Margie D. Allen and husband, John, of Sarcoxie, Mo., and Machelle I. Trotter of Midland, Tennessee Trotter, James Trotter and John Trotter served as honorary pallbearers. On-line condolences may be sent to the family through our website www.ozarkfuneralhome.com.
