Naoma A. Long, 91, of Moss Bluff, La., died Sunday, March 17, 2002, in Lake Charles, La.
She made her home in Noel, Mo. for a number of years. She was a member of the Church of Christ and Eastern Star and had worked as a beautician.
She is survived by a son, Jack Henry of N.Y.; a daughter, Patsy Sillyman of Moss Bluff, La.; a stepson, John Long of College Station, Texas; a sister, Maxine Paulson of Noel, Mo.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held March 22 in Newkirk, Okla. Miller-Stahl Funeral Services was in charge of the Newkirk arrangements.
Dorothy Markle
Aug. 28, 1921 - March 24, 2002
Dorothy Markle, 80, of Grove, Okla., died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at a Joplin Hospital following a short illness.
Mrs. Markle was born Aug. 28, 1921, in Cyclone, Mo., to Martin Aaron Forbes and Nellie (Hopkins) Forbes. She was a native of southwest Thompson was born Nov. 3, 1935, at Lanagan, Mo., to the late James Madison and Bertha Elsa (Smith) Thompson. He had lived all of his life in Lanagan, Mo. He was of the Pentecostal faith. He was a carpenter and did masonry work, helping with the construction of 43 bridge. He was a member of the Anderson National Guard for four years.
He married Norma Lee Whitehill Feb. 5, 1955, in Pineville, Mo. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Shirley Keys and Brenda Pierce, both of Lanagan, Mo.; a brother, Jack Thompson will be held Saturday, March 23, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, Mo. The Rev. John Sitler will officiate. Burial will be in the Lanagan Cemetery in Lanagan, Mo.
Visitation will be held noon until 8 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2002, at the Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
George Abercrombie
Dec. 19, 1931 - Dec. 8, 2002
Mr. George Leroy Abercrombie, 70, of Grove, Okla., died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Integris Grove General Hospital after an illness.
George Abercrombie was born Dec. 19, 1931, in Sulphur Springs, Ark., to the late Benjamin Harrison and Laure Grace (Thomas) Abercrombie. He lived in Grove for 27 years, coming from Noel, Mo. He was a member of Butler Baptist Church at Noel, Mo. He was a self-employed trader. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Delaware County Coon Hunter’s Association.
He married Dora Ann Burger Nov. 9, 1954, in Sulphur Springs, Ark. She survives of the home in Grove.
Additional survivors include two sons, Raymond Don Abercrombie and his wife, Loretta, and Ronald Dean Abercrombie and his wife, Cheryl, all of Jay, Okla.; one daughter, Debbie Lee and her significant other, Doug Foreman, of Grove, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; three sisters, Della Epperson and Irene Hall of Noel, Mo., and Beulah Shields of Anderson, Mo.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Ozark Funeral Home in Noel, Mo. The Rev. Dolphus Blevins will officiate. Burial will be in the Butler Creek Cemetery at Sulphur Springs, Ark.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, from noon until 7 p.m. at the Ozark Funeral Home in Noel, Mo. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
John Allen
Feb. 6, 1919 - Dec. 6, 2002
Mr. John Willard Allen, 83, of Noel, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at Freeman-Neosho Hospital in Neosho, Mo., after an illness.
John Allen was born Feb. 17, 1919, in Iatan, Mo., to the late James William and Ruth Jane (Franks) Allen. He had lived in Noel for eight to 10 years, coming from Weston, Mo. He moved from Iatan, Mo., to Weston, Mo., when he was 11 years old. He graduated high school in Weston and attended business schools in St. Joseph, Mo., and Milwaukee, Wis. He was a sales manager for wholesale toys and an owner manager for TG and Y stores. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include one daughter and her husband, Patricia and Keith Gales of Racine, Wis.; one granddaughter and her husband, Denise and Tony Ellenbecker of Appleton, Wis.; two brothers, Owen Lee Allen and his wife Jackie, and Woodrow Allen, all of Weston, Mo.
Private family services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002. The Rev. Bob Ewens will officiate. Burial will be in the Noel Cemetery in Noel, Mo. Local arrangements are under the direction of Ozark Funeral Home in Noel, Mo.
Visitation will me held Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ozark Funeral Home in Noel, Mo., where the family will receive friends.
Jack H. Brown
July 21, 1931 - Dec. 5, 2002
Jack H. Brown was born July 21, 1931, in Galena, Kan., to George and Cora (Venerable) Brown. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 16 and served during World War II and Korea. He married Nancy Adair on Dec. 12, 1986, at Pineville, Mo. He worked as a machinist for McDonald Douglas in California. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners in Joplin with the Abou Adham Temple and a member of the Grand Lake Shriners in Miami. While a member of the Shriners, he sponsored 11 children. He was commander of Calif.; children Rick and Kathy Adair of Fairland, Okla., Randy and Julie Adair of Owasso, Okla., Rodney Adair of McAlester, Okla., Robert and Nancy Adair of Tulsa, Okla., and Russell and Diana Adair of Broken Arrow, Okla. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Roger Brown of Galena, Kan.; a sister-in-law, Martha Brown of Joplin, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, with Grove Masonic Lodge #187 officiating. Interment will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery with military rites by the Grove Veterans Ritual Team.
Services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove, Okla.
