Bill Cline
Dec. 11, 1943 - Dec. 6,. 2002
Mr. William Richard “Bill” Cline, 58 of Anderson, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at 6:25 a.m. at his home after an illness.
Bill Cline was born Dec. 11, 1943, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Ralph Monroe and Opal (Daughtery) Cline. He had lived in this area about 13 years, coming from Chicago, Ill. He and his wife ran Mary Dean’s Family Restaurant in Anderson, Mo., for four years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and his wife Mary Cline, who died Dec. 12, 2000.
Survivors include one son and his wife, Dean Richard Lester and Carol of Anderson, Mo.; two daughters, Rebecca Jean Lester and Kimberly Ann Blancas, both of Chicago, Ill.; one brother, Roger Cline of London, Ark.; five sisters, Virginia Morris and Beverly Sheehan, both of Anderson, Mo., Sandra Jones of Lansing, Mich., Patricia Vansill of Kansas City, Mo., and Betty Jean Wagner of Iowa; and 16 grandchildren.
Cremation will be done by Bella Vista Crematory in Bella Vista Crematory in Bella Vista, Ark. Private family services will be held at a later time. His ashes will be buried beside his wife, Mary. Local arrangements are under the direction of Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, Mo.

John T. Griffin
Dec. 2, 2002
John T. Griffin, 89, of Fort Smith, Ark., died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, in the Veteran’s Hospital in Fort Harrison, Mont.
John joined the united States Armed Forces in 1942 and after 52 years of service including special services and civil services in Okinawa, Japan, he retired in 1993 with numerous awards, ribbons, medals, citations and recognitions for exemplary dedication and lifelong 1commitment to the united States. Additionally he was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Okinawa earning a 32nd degree honor and Scottish Right Bodies. He was a member of the Pineville Baptist Church in Pineville, Mo., and attended Grand Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Smith.
His parents, Lydia Catherine Joiner Griffin and Tilmon Harland Griffin preceded him in death.
He is survived by two sisters, Mary C. Coiner of Fort Smith, Ark., and Gertrude M. Haggard of Richland, Wash.; one brother, Franklin J. Griffin of Helena, Mont.; Nieces and nephews, Nancy C. Honeycutt of Van Buren, Ark., Janice S. Pearson of Alma, Ark., Ron C. Coiner of Mountain Center, Colo., Wayne Griffin of Eaton, Calif.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at 3 p.m. the same day in Fairview Cemetery in Joplin, Mo., under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
The family greeted friends at Edward Funeral Home Dec. 6, 2002.

Benton L. Pierce
Jan. 2, 1934 - Dec. 3, 2002
Mr. Benton L. Pierce, 68, of Pineville, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at 6:50 p.m. at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Mo., after an illness.
Benton was born Jan. 2, 1934, at Pineville, Mo., to the late Curt and Effie (Letterman) Pierce. He had lived in Pineville, Mo., for three years coming from Platte City, Mo. He was a Baptist. He worked as a security guard for Tyson poultry plant in Noel, Mo.
He married Mary Griffin on Sept. 26, 1964, at Troy, Kan. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Angela Johnson of Rushville, Mo.; two brothers, Arnold Pierce of Arkansas, and Phoenix Pierce of Purdy, Mo.; two sisters, Betty Crampton of Joplin, Mo., and Sharlatt Ford of Chanute, Kan.; two grandchildren, Tara Johnson and Taylor Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Kathleen Pierce.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at the Pineville Cemetery in Pineville, Mo. There will be no visitation.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Benton Pierce memorial fund in care of the funeral home.

Marjorie L. Puryear
March 21, 1923 - Dec. 1, 2002
Marjorie Puryear of Anderson, Mo., passed away Dec. 1, 2002, at the Anderson Beverly Nursing Home following a long illness.
She was born March 21, 1923, in Anderson, Mo., the daughter of Lee and Sadie Adcock. She had lived in the Anderson area all of her life. She was a homemaker.
She married Carman Puryear in 1981 and he preceded her in death in 1984.
Survivors include two sons, James Sprague of Springfield, Mo., and Ted Sprague of Anderson; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
No services are planned. Mrs. Puryear has been cremated.
Arrangements were under the direction of Woodard-Freund-Calif., Devary T. Howe of Las Vegas, Nev., and Dawn L. Dumand of Rocky Comfort, Mo.; two sisters, Mavis Faucher of Escondido, Missouri Chapter, Glen Isle Center, 1500 S. Glenstone, Springfield, MO 65804.

Jim Thomas
Aug. 8, 1926 - Nov. 26, 2002
Mr. James “Jim” Thomas, 76, of Noel, Mo., went to be with his lord Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at 9:35 a.m. at his home after an illness.
Mr. Thomas was born Aug. 8, 1926, in Springdale, Ark., to the late William Henry and Manerva A. (Watson) Thomas. He had lived in Noel since 1962 coming from Kansas city, Mo. He was a drywall contractor. He was an Army Veteran serving in World War II.
He married Carolyn Sue Rayfield on Jan. 10, 1953. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son, Brian James Thomas of Noel; a daughter, Christie Lynn Thomas of Fayetteville, Ark.; a sister, Mary Bryan of Yakima, Wash.; a grandson, Josh Newburn, serving in the U.S. Navy stationed in Norfolk, Va.; a great-grandson, Andrew Brady Newburn of Fayetteville, Ark.; three nieces, Beverly Lett and Netta Galardo, both of Joplin, Mo., and Jackie McGuirk of Carl Junction, Mo.; four nephews, Bob Sherman of northwest Arkansas, Bill Johnson and Duane Johnson, both of Joplin, Mo., and Lonnie Huckabey of Noel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Richard Donahou, Paul Donahou and Everett Thomas; three sisters, Cena Kendrick, Eva Anderson and Nellie Johnson.
Funeral services for Jim Thomas will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at the Noel Faith Tabernacle Church. Pastor Brent Beauford will officiate. Burial will be in the Butler Creek Cemetery in Sulphur Springs, Ark.
Pallbearers will be Steve Lett, Gabe Lett, Jared Lett, Jeff Galardo, Bill Johnson and Lonnie Huckabey. Honorary pallbearers will be Ivan Moore, Ronnie Duncan and Duane Johnson.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at the Ozark Funeral Home in Noel, Mo., from noon until 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Noel Faith Tabernacle Church in care of the funeral home.
