Clinton “Earl” Wages, 66, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2003, at his home.
He was born July 1, 1937 in Marks, Mississippi, the son of Clinton and Hallie Perkins Wages. He and Deanna Matthews-Amelunke were married November 8, 1992.
He served in the U.S. Army, retired after 20 years of service as a police officer in Greenville, Mississippi, then worked various places in sales. In June 2003, his failing health forced him to retire after 14 years of employment with Nu-Way Products in West Memphis, Arkansas. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit, Mo.
Loving survivors include his wife of Cape Girardeau; four daughters, Carla Maletesta of Greenville, Miss, Sunni Thomas of Destin, Fla., Tracie Wages of Billings, Mont., and Holly Fox of Jackson, Mo.; two sons, Lucas and Derek Amelunke of Nashville, Tenn; two sisters, Ruth Spence of Memphis, Tenn., and Lynn Holland of Moscow, Tenn.
He was preceded by his parents.

Noah Franklin “Frank” Eaton, 70, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Saturday, November 29, 2003, at his home in Cape Girardeau.
H e was born April 23, 1933, in Hahn, Mo., son of Noah and Pearl Varvel Eaton. He and Lorraine Bertrand were married February 1, 1953, in Piggott, Arkansas. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past February.
Frank was a 1951 graduate of Central High School in Cape Girardeau. He was inducted into the U.S. Navy on July 6, 1951, and served as an aircraft mechanic. He was honorably discharged July 1, 1955.
He worked 39 ½ years with Pipefitters Union #562, retiring March 24, 1995. He was a foreman, plumbing instructor, and master plumber.
He was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Cathedral Parish, a member of K.C. Council #1111, and VFW Post #3838, all in Cape Girardeau.
Loving survivors include his wife of Cape Girardeau; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and James Mick of Vienna, Ill., Kristi and George Honeywell of Pierre, SD; a sister, Helen Kass of St. Louis; four grandchildren, Brian Warren and wife Susan, Sarah Warren, Cody Lee and Katy Honeywell; three step-grandchildren, Jamie, Daniel, and Zach Mick; and a great-grandson, Mason Warren.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and one sister.

Erna Marie Rubel, 87, of New Wells, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2003 at the Monticello House in Jackson.
She was born January 3, 1916, in Farrar, Mo, the daughter of Max and Gertrude Muench Fritsche. She and Odis August Rubel were married on May 11, 1941 at Farrar. He passed away July 1966.
Mrs. Rubel was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church at New Wells. She worked as a seamstress at Courtesy Cleaners and later at Patrick’s Cleaners, both in Cape Girardeau. She also enjoyed quilting.
Loving survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Odis Rubel, Jr. and wife Charlotte of Jackson; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce Versemann and husband Ron of New Wells; one sister, Norma Clifton of Menfro, Mo; five grandchildren, Penny Rajhansa, Dawn Salyer, Jeffrey Versemann, Jodi Seabaugh, Jim Versemann; and six great-grandchildren, Arun Rajhansa, Shea and Payton Salyer, Dillon and Morgan Versemann, and Dalton Seabaugh.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Jewell Janet Tolbert, 75, of Whitewater, passed away Friday, November 28, 2003 at her daughter’s home in Altenburg.
She was born April 11, 1928 in Whitewater, Mo., daughter of Alvin and Ola Crump Bartels. She and William “Pete” Tolbert were married April 26, 1952. He preceded her in death April 28, 1991.
Mrs. Tolbert was a member of Whitewater United Methodist Church and its UMW. She was a teacher’s aide many years at Delta R-5 Elementary School and retired in 1991.
Loving survivors include three daughters, Gail Beck of Chaffee, Lavonna Berkbuegler of O’Fallon, Mo., Kellie Brown of Altenburg; her mother of Whitewater; two brothers, Gene Bartels of Millersville, Glen David Bartels of Whitewater; and four grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son and her father.

Stephen C. “Steve” Logan, 60, of Jackson, passed away Friday, November 21, 2003, at his home.
He was born September 25, 1943, in Carbondale, Ill., son of Clarence I. and Mavis R. Hagler Logan. He and Audrey Loland-Poe were married July 17, 1982, in Jackson.
Steve was a graduate of the University of Arizona – Tucson, and was in the U.S. Army from 1961 – 1965, serving in Vietnam and Korea. He had worked as a substance abuse counselor in Cape Girardeau, Charleston, and Malden. He also owned and operated the former Truman’s Antiques in uptown Jackson.
Loving survivors include his wife of Jackson; three daughters, Laura Beattie of Scott City, Mo., Pam Horrell of Carthage, Mo., Lynette Glueck of Jackson; and six grandchildren.

Sedgewickville, MO: Ray N. Grantham, age 85, passed away Friday, November 21, 2003, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO.
He was born June 4, 1918, near Lixville, MO, the son of John and Mabel Drum Grantham. He and Vera Seabaugh were married June 9, 1945.
Mr. Grantham was a life-time farmer. He was a member of the Sedgewickville Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council. He was a Republican Committeeman and had worked for Shawneetown Feed and Seed.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Sonya Grantham of Sedgewickville; one sister, Elsie Zornes of St. Louis, MO; two nieces and three nephews and many cousins. He was preceded by an infant daughter and a sister.

Norman H. Sebastian, 81, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2003, at the Missouri Veterans’ Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born February 28, 1922, in Jackson, son of Hugo and Amanda Fluegge Sebastian. He and Marie Seabaugh were married January 13, 1945, in Tilsit.
Loving survivors include his wife of Jackson; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and David Wendel of Jackson; three granddaughters, Amy Schaefer and husband WO2 Chris Schaefer of Clarksville, Tenn., Lori Owens and husband Allan of Jackson, Sarah Sanchez and husband Emilio of Taylorsville, Utah; and three great-grandchildren, Joshua and Julia Schaefer and Eli Owens. Also surviving are three brothers, Freeman and Nelson Sebastian of Jackson, Elmer Sebastian of Florissant, Mo.; two sisters, Esther Devenport and Jean Eftink of Cape Girardeau.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Wayne Sebastian on May 10, 1986; and a brother, Walter Sebastian.
Norman was inducted in the U.S. Army on February 16, 1945 and was assigned to the 153rd Sta. Hospital. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant on December 14, 1946.
He worked for the former Lorberg Funeral Home and Appliance in Cape Girardeau and the former Kamp T.V. and Appliance in Jackson. In 1955, he established Sebastian Sales and Service. He sold the business in 1980, but continued operating from his home until 1998.
He was a charter member of the former Good News Christian Center in Jackson and had served as an elder. He was a past president and 25-year member of the Gideons International and was active in their jail ministry. Other affiliations include current member and past commander of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson, and former member of its Honor Guard; past board member (1979 – 1989) of Teen Challenge in Cape Girardeau; current member, past secretary and board member of Post M TPA in Cape Girardeau, past State President and former national director (1976 – 1978); and a 50-year member of the RSES (Refrigeration Service Engineers Society)
Norman also enjoyed assisting with Bible study at the veterans’ home. Friends may call Wednesday, November 19th, between 4 – 8 PM, at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. An American Legion Service will be held at 7 PM. Funeral Service will be Thursday, November 20th, at 11 AM, at the funeral home, with Rev. Johnny Seabaugh officiating. Hadley W. Hartman, 89, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2003, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born December 12, 1913, in Whitewater, Mo., son of Charles W. and Rosie T. A. Baker Hartman. He and Emma Cook were married March 23, 1940. She passed away August 31, 1977. On January 2, 1982, he married Marie Gartung-Green. She passed away July 20, 1999.
Raised in the Gordonville community, Hadley was baptized and confirmed at Zion Methodist Church, where he was a lifelong church member and continued to be active as his health would allow.
As a young man, Hadley farmed in Allenville, and worked at the former handle factory in Jackson. After moving to Jackson, he became employed at Ceramo Pottery Manufacturing, where he was instrumental in all operations of the plant. After 40 years of service, he retired in 1978.
Loving survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Doyle McClanahan of Jackson; a brother and sister-in-law, James “Jim” and Bernice Hartman of Gordonville; a sister, Gladys Wedekind of Oregon, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Dawn Hartline, her husband Richie, and children Emily and Amanda, all of Jackson, and Dewayne McClanahan, his wife Rhonda, and their son, Logan.
Also surviving is a brother-in-law, Clemon E. Gartung of Gordonville, a sister-in-law, Verna Lee Nitsch of Jackson; and three nieces, Cindy Raganyi, her husband Keith, Lynette Moore, her husband Jay, and Rhonda Norman, and her husband Brandon, all of Jackson; and many other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Colista Thoma and Stella Cook; and a great-granddaughter, Haley McClanahan.

Oscar “Buster” Kasten, age 95, formerly of Jackson and Altenburg, MO fell asleep in Jesus on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, at Saxony Village in Cape Girardeau.
Mr. Kasten was born July 31, 1908 in Pocahontas, MO, son of August and Caroline Engelhart Kasten. He and Irma Leimer were married May 7, 1933. She survives.
He was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson and a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg. His faith in the Lord Jesus was very important to him. Mr. Kasten owned and operated Kasten Chevrolet in Altenburg and Frohna for 40 years and was a charter member of the Altenburg Lions Club. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and a friend of many.
Also surviving are a son, Robert Ronald Kasten and wife Barbara of Merritt Island, FL; a brother, Rev. Edward Kasten of Seattle, WA; a sister, Melva Lichtenegger of Kansas City, KS; two grandchildren, Michael Kasten and wife Becky of Champaign, IL, Julie Johnston and husband Derek of Oak Ridge, NC; five great-grandchildren, Isaac, August, Sadie & Ella Kasten of Champaign, IL, and Brett Johnston of Oak Ridge, NC.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joann Kasten, a brother and two sisters.

Charles “Tommy” Schweain, 59, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2003, at his home. He had valiantly struggled with cancer for 14 years.
He was born June 24, 1944, in Cape Girardeau, son of Riley and Mayme Wallace Schweain. He and Toni Friedrich were married November 3, 1962. They celebrated 41 years of marriage this month.
Tom attended Central High School in Cape Girardeau. He had worked 15 years for the former Purolator Courier in Cape Girardeau, owned and operated the former American Dispatch Corp., and had done over-the-road truck driving.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson and the Russell Hall Sunday School Class.
Loving survivors include his wife, Toni; son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Taryn Schweain of Cape Girardeau; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cherie and Curtis Lukefahr and children Lane Thomas and Alexis Grace all of Daisy; and Nikki and Eric White and children Jacob Grant and Kaitlyn Nicole all of Jackson.
Also surviving is a brother, Jerry Schweain of Jackson; and four sisters, Betty Rohmann of Scranton, Pennsylvania, Mary Niemann of Gordonville, Candy Gottfried of St. Louis, and Hazel Hampton of Wappapello, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John Riley Schweain, Jr. and Clarence Schweain.

Olga A. Bodenschatz, 92, of Shawneetown, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2003 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born January 9, 1911, at New Wells, MO, daughter of Adolph and Louisa Jahn Thauwauld. She and Walter E. Bodenschatz were married at February 26, 1933, at New Wells, MO. He died July 18, 1979.
Mrs. Bodenschatz was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church at New Wells. She had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown since 1933. She was also a charter member of its Ladies Aid. Loving survivors include four daughters, Louise Katt of Ripon, Wisconsin, Ruby Preusser and Ruth Kasten both of Jackson, and Edith Dowell of Manchester, MO; one son, Glenn Bodenschatz of Oak Ridge; one sister, Nora Lungwitz of Altenburg; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son and one sister.

Bernard J. “Ben” Broshuis, 83, of Jackson, passed away Friday, November 7, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born October 2, 1920, in Marble Hill, Missouri, son of Ben and Elizabeth Wubker (Holzum) Broshuis. He and Johanna Holzum were married February 27, 1943, at Guardian Angel Church in St. Louis. She survives.
Ben enlisted in the U.S. Army on August 28, 1942. He served as an engineer with the 161st Air-Borne, and was honorably discharged January 26, 1946.
He moved to Jackson in 1950 and became employed at Elfrink Construction Company, where he worked as a foreman in commercial construction in Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois. He was still active in the business.
He had been a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church since 1950, and served on the building committee that coordinated the construction of the current church. He was also a 3rd Degree Member of the Bishop Timon Knights of Columbus Council #6405 in Jackson.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Mike Elfrink and Brenda and Norman Grass all of Jackson; four grandchildren, Stephen Elfrink of Lenexa, Kansas, Leann Hendrix of Cape Girardeau, Kathy Elfrink of Jackson, Brian Grass of St. Louis; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and five sisters.

He was born June 9, 1954, in Newport, Arkansas, son of Jack and Jean Pardon Latimer.
Loving survivors include his father of Jackson; one brother, Stan Latimer of Jackson; and one sister, Sheila Garland of Ocean Springs, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his mother, and one sister.

Lona Pearl Crader, age 80 of Jackson, MO passed away Sunday, November 2, 2003 at Monticello House in Jackson.
She was born October 25, 1923 in Randles, MO, the daughter of William and Minnie Sheets Darby. She and Linder Ray Crader were married April 12, 1941. He died March 30, 1981.
The Craders moved to Jackson from Delta in the late 1940’s and worked at the former Jackson Hosiery Mill before working at Southeast Hospital until the mid 1990’s.
Survivors include a son, Duane Crader, and his wife, Marcele of Tampa, Florida; two grandchildren, CWO Terry Crader and his wife, Lori, of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Shar Carson and her husband, Andrew, of Tampa, Florida; a daughter-in-law, Betty Schuetts of Cape Girardeau, her daughter, Dana Gier and her husband, Chris, of Lake Jackson, Texas; six great-grandchildren, Nicolas and Ashley Crader, Tyler Carson, Allison, Logan, and Carson Gier; two nieces, Susie Webb, and Kay Keesee, and a nephew, Gary Darby. Her son, Terry Crader, died in 1964. She was also preceded by three brothers, one sister, a half brother and a half sister.

She was born January 23, 1920, in Cheraw, South Carolina. She and Wallace Harrison were married December 28, 1941. He passed away in September 1950.
She had worked in Jackson at the former Kamp’s Coin Wash, Pope’s Grocery, and owned the former 3-M’s Quickie Mart. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson.
Loving survivors include a son, Michael Harrison of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Diana Bendel of St. Charles and June Palermo of Cape Girardeau; two half-brothers, Scott McLean of Danville, Pennsylvania and Joe McLean of Charlotte, North Carolina; a half-sister, Jean McLean of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers.

Olga Mungle, age 86, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2003, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, MO.
Mrs. Mungle was born October 3, 1917 in Oak Ridge, MO, the daughter of Arthur and Anna Ludwig Loos. She and Gilbert Mungle were married September 17, 1938. He died January 11, 1990.
Other survivors include a daughter, Sandra Smith and her husband, Jim, of Jackson; a grandson, Kyle Brotherton and his wife, Linda, of Jackson; a granddaughter, Krystal Kinder and her husband, Tim, of Burfordville; three great-grandchildren, Jena Brotherton, Tyler and Gage Kinder, a step-grandson, Christopher Smith; and a step-great-grandson, Jason Floyd. She was preceded by one son, Edward Mungle, one brother and one sister.
She graduated from Oak Ridge High School and worked at the former International Shoe Factory in Jackson from 1945 until her retirement in 1979. She was a former member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ of Fruitland, and has been a member of the Emanuel United Church of Christ of Jackson since 1990.

Jill Ann Rhodes, 64, of Jackson, passed away Friday, October 31, 2003, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born March 2, 1939, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of James and Flora Fox Abernathy.
She married Terry Cora and later married Lester Rhodes. They preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her parents and two sisters.
She had worked at the Thorngate factory and it’s outlet in Cape Girardeau, prior to suffering a stroke in 1991. She previously attended Red Star Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. She had lived at Jackson Manor Nursing Home since 1996.
Loving survivors include two daughters, Debbie Michaud of Las Vegas, Nevada; Amy McFall of Lowndes, Missouri; three sisters, Catherine Pulliam of Cape Girardeau, Jewel Mitchell of Mounds, Illinois, Fannie Farrow of Pocahontas, Missouri; a brother, James Reed of Cape Girardeau; and four grandchildren.

Linda Kay Williams, 55, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2003, at her home.
She was born February 4, 1948, in Whitewater, Mo., daughter of Oliver A. and Beulah Barks Williams.
Linda was a 1965 graduate of Delta High School. She worked as a loan officer at various loan companies in Cape Girardeau, worked 10 years as credit manager at the former Riverside Lumber Company in Cape Girardeau, and eight years in the credit department at the former Atlas Plastics in Cape Girardeau. Since 1990, she had worked at Cape Surgical Clinic as the patient account manager.
She had been an active member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson since 1970, and had served on the church council. She and four other church members were honored in 2001 and 2003 for their work with the Jamaican Christian Medical Mission Team.
Linda was especially caring of children and was loving and devoted to her family.
Loving survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Valerie Williams of Cape Girardeau; her sister and brother-in-law, Melva and Eddie Crowell of Scott City, Missouri; and a dear friend, Rhonda Sievers of Cape Girardeau.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Glenda Vogel. Friends may call Saturday, November 1st, between 4-8 PM, at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, and Sunday, November 2nd, after 1 PM at Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson.

L. Erlene Iezzi, wife of Richard P. Iezzi of Delmont, PA departed this world on October 26, 2003, at West Moreland Regional Hospital in Greensburg, PA, at the age of 72.
Lecy Erlene Howell, daughter of the late Perry Alfonzo and Edith Dockins Howell, was born November 6, 1930 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Following graduation from Central High School, she was employed as an X-ray technician. Erlene went to Western PA with her first husband, now deceased James Ray Hines.
Also preceding her in death were her daughter Teresa Marie and son Michael Ray.
For many years, Erlene worked as an executive secretary for Martin Nettrour Contracting Corp., in Pittsburgh. Prior to retirement, she worked with her husband as a manufacture’s representative of ladies apparel. She was a patient person who loved gardening, baking, sewing, decorating and music.
Erlene is survived by brother, Eugene, of Texas, sisters, Sue Hachney of Nebraska, Faye Seifrit of Ohio, and sister-in-law Corrine Howell of Virginia. Also surviving are four step daughters, Richelle Thompson of New Kensington, PA; Sandra Delancey of Monroeville PA, Bonita LaBoon of Charleston SC, and Melissa Romanelli of Murrysville, PA. She is also survived by six step-great-grandchildren.

Tucker Jones, 19, of Jackson, formerly of Elgin, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center, due to injuries from a motorcycle accident. His sister, Krystal, died in the accident.
He was born July 30, 1984, in Creston, Iowa, son of Harold and Victoria Skinner Jones. He was a 2003 graduate of Elgin High School, where he competed in football, track, cross-country, and basketball. He was All-State Champion in track in the two mile relay and the mile in 2001.

Krystal Jones, 16, of Jackson, formerly of Elgin, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2003, in a motorcycle accident in Jackson. Her brother, Tucker, also died due to injuries in the accident.
She was born December 25, 1986, in Smithville, Missouri, daughter of Harold and Victoria Skinner Jones. She attended Jackson High School, was an all-star cheerleader, and competed in track, basketball, and softball.

Elsie Frieda Martha Koch, 89, of New Wells, passed away Friday, October 24, 2003, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
Mrs. Koch was born December 13, 1913 in Farrar, MO, the daughter of Max and Gertrude Muench Fritsche. She married Erwin Koch on November 6, 1937 in Farrar. He survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Jim Koch of Waterloo, IL and William Koch of Villa Ridge, MO; two sisters, Erna Rubel of New Wells, MO, and Norma Clifton of Menfro, MO; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded by three brothers and a sister.
She was baptized December 21, 1913 and was confirmed on April 10, 1927 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Farrar. She has been a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells since 1937.

Mary E. Hume, 61, of Jackson, died peacefully Tuesday, October 21, 2003, at her home.
She was born June 2, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri.
She and John P. “Jack” Hume, Sr., were married August 15, 1959. They celebrated 44 years of marriage in August.
Loving survivors are her husband of Jackson; two sons, John P. “Pat” Hume, Jr., wife Amy, and children Landon and Caroline Hume and Carter Bess of Jackson, Scott W. Hume, wife Heidi, and children Guthrie and Avery of Jackson; three daughters, Laurie Christenson, husband Doug, and children Clark and Blaine of Gillette, Wyoming; Julie Hume of Murphysboro, Illinois, Amy Sparks, husband Garrett, and son Noah of Jackson.
Also surviving is her mother Evelyn Teson of Jackson; two brothers, Ronald Teson of St. Louis, Mike Teson of Jackson; and one sister, Billie Dixon of Jonesburg, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Teson.
Mary was a member of Shawnee Hills Baptist Church in Jackson. She enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, and listening to southern gospel music.
Her family remembers her for her devotion as a loving, wife, mother, and grandmother.

Kathryn Lee McCormack, 46, of Jackson, passed away Monday, October 20, 2003 at St. John’s Mercy Hospital in St. Louis.
Kathryn was born in Kirkwood, MO, on June 3, 1957, the daughter of Ivan and Alice Johnson Myers.
She was a 1975 graduate of Meadow Heights High School. She received an Associates Degree in Nursing and later received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from SEMO. She had worked at Southeast Hospital 23 years and was presently employed at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. Kathy was a substitute nurse and had been substitute teaching in the Jackson School District for the last two years. She was a member of the New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson.
She is survived by her parents; two sons, Ryan and Spencer McCormack of Jackson, a brother, Doug Myers of Imperial, MO; two sisters, Kim Best of Cape Girardeau and Jenny James of Jackson, MO; and seven nephews.

Jack D. Rushin, 68, of Jackson, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 18, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born June 25, 1935, in Harvell, Missouri, son of Robert and Millie Rice Rushin. He married Marjorie West in 1956. He and Pat Auer Maloney were married April 21, 1979.
Jack was a 1953 graduate of Poplar Bluff High School. Active in sports, he attained All-Conference Football in 1952, held the school’s shot-put record, and was All-State High School in track shot-put. In 1954, he attended Ole Miss on a football scholarship.
He served in the U.S. Navy four years and then attended Southwest Missouri State University.
He worked for the Springfield Police Department, the Department of Justice in Denver, Colorado, was a team manager for Proctor and Gamble of Cape Girardeau, and most recently owned and operated Professional Hearing Aid Center in Uptown Jackson.
Jack was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson. Loving survivors include his wife, Pat of Jackson; two sons Dr. Jack “Duke” Rushin, wife Teresa, and children, Richard Jack “R.J.” and Shelby of Poplar Bluff; Richard Rushin, wife Debby, and children, Rachael, Jill, Ben, and Jackson of Jackson; three daughters, Kathy Bierman, husband Doug, and daughter Lacy of Seymour, Indiana; Stephanie Jackson, husband Steve, and children, Elizabeth, Emily, and Alex of Rolla, Missouri; Kim Baker, husband Mark, and children Austin, Tori, and Ryan of Jackson.
Also surviving are five siblings, Kathern Marie Riley of Poplar Bluff, Robert Richard “Bud” Rushin of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, Paul Ray Rushin of Chillicothe, Illinois, AnnaMae Elaine Knuckles of Poplar Bluff, and Kenneth Joe Rushin of St. Louis.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Delilah; his parents; and four siblings, Alta Mildred Chance, Virgil Benjamin Rushin, Bill Donald Rushin, and Ralph Allen Rushin.

Louis Henry Whitler, 84, of Gordonville, died Tuesday, October 14, 2003, at his home.
He was born September 19, 1919 in Wolf Lake, Illinois, son of Elbert Louis and Pauline Irene Brase Whitler. He and Minnie Clara Hanschen were married September 19, 1946. They celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary earlier this year.
“Louie” worked at International Shoe Company from 1948 to 1964. He spent the rest of his career in banking, where he worked for Cape State Bank, Mercantile Bank, and Jackson Exchange Bank.
Louie made many friends over the years, everywhere he worked, as an avid bowler, a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Jackson Optimist Club, and Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry Whitler and wife Janice of Peoria, Illinois, Lee Whitler and wife Marsha of Webster Groves, Missouri; three grandchildren, Matthew Whitler of Chicago, Illinois, Melissa Whitler of Minneapolis, Minnesota, John Whitler of Bloomington, Indiana; his brother, Leon Whitler of Gordonville; and his sister, Virginia Keller of Gordonville, Missouri.

James Lynn “Jim” Seabaugh, age 59, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2003, at his home.

Jim was born May 26, 1944 in Cape Girardeau, son of the late Virgil and Maggie Seabaugh. He and June Siemers Swift were united in marriage on May 30, 1997.
Loving survivors include his wife; two stepsons and their wives, Craig and Kay Riek of Cape Girardeau and Curt and Maghen Riek of Ste. Genevieve; three granddaughters, Madison Riek, Macy Riek, and Abbi Riek; two brothers, Don Seabaugh of Cape Girardeau and Lonnie Seabaugh of Haslet, Texas, and their wives, Carolyn and Alice; a sister, Linda Morris of Cape and her husband, Johnny; a nephew, Donnie Seabaugh of Kansas City, MO, two nieces, Gina Smith and Dara Kay Amos of Cape Girardeau; three great nephews, Ben and Landon Seabaugh and Shawn Amos; and one great niece, Emily Amos.
Jim was a graduate of Central High School. He was a Green Beret in the U.S. Army and served in Okinawa.
Jim was employed by Central Packing Company, worked as a car salesman, and a funeral director. For years Jim sang in a Southern gospel quartet, The Singing Faithmen. He had also been active in several Baptist churches in the area.
Jim attended Christ Church of the Heartland where he and his wife were Connections group leaders.

Minnie O. Bush, age 93 passed away October 7, 2003, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, MO.
Mrs. Bush was born May 12, 1910, in Kurreville, MO, the daughter of Louis and Wilhelmine Haupt Schmidt. She and Charley Bush were married March 20, 1954. He died January 1, 1961.
Survivors include one step-son, Norbert Bush of Advance; a step daughter, Charlsie Auspach of Advance; several step-grandchildren; eight nieces, Mildred Hartle, Minnie Compas, and Shirley Heise all of Cape Girardeau, Kathleen Bush of Kansas City, KS, Alleen Boswell of St. Louis, Betty Schmittzehe of Monroe LA, Dolores Strop and Shirley Kinkade of Memphis, TN; two nephews, Harold Haertling of ChulaVista, CA and Bob Sandvoss of Cape Girardeau. She was preceded by three brothers, four sisters, one niece and one nephew.
She was Baptized at Kurreville Lutheran Church in 1910, and was confirmed in 1923 at Christ Lutheran Church of Gordonville where she was a lifelong member.

Nelson D. Patrick, 80, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Monday, October 6, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born April 8, 1923, in Cape Girardeau, son of William and Lorene Scherf Patrick. He and Geraldine “Jerry” Froemsdorf were married November 15, 1941, in Cape Girardeau.
Nelson served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He spent his entire working career in dry cleaning, purchasing the former Nu-Way Dry Cleaners business in the early 1950s, renaming it Patrick’s Cleaners. He retired in 1985.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Janet Gluesing and husband Larry of Cape Girardeau; two grandsons, James Patrick Newcomer of Belleville, Ill., Daniel Eugene Newcomer of Jackson; three great-grandchildren, Dana, Caleb, and Brittany Newcomer.
