Alvin “Jake” Clingingsmith, 84, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2004, at the St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born June 8, 1919, in Neelys Landing, Missouri, the son of Charles F. and Bessie Lou Sides Clingingsmith. He and Alma Hanselmann were married June 29, 1943, in Jackson.
Jake was inducted into the U.S. Army on October 16, 1942 and served in the Asiatic and Pacific Theatres during WWII. He was honorably discharged on December 13, 1945.
He worked at the former Jackson Handle Factory, Penzel Construction, the former Jackson Lumber Company. He then worked 33 years for the City of Jackson as the power plant operator and then for the fire department, retiring in 1982. He also owned and operated Jake’s Water Service for 33 years, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson, formerly serving on the church counsel and active in the Men’s Fellowship. He was a 56-year member of the Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post #158 in Jackson, the Excelsior Lodge #441 in Jackson, and the Sword of Bunker Hill.
Loving survivors include his wife, Alma of Jackson; a son, Robert Clingingsmith of Norfolk, Arkansas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Roger Friedrich of Cape Girardeau, Debbie and Teddy Scholl of Jackson; and a sister, Helen Humes of Jackson. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, Nicole Hazelwood and husband Tommy, Keely and Kyle Clingingsmith, Shannon and Blake Friedrich, Andrew, Jacob, Amanda, and Joshua Scholl; and two great-grandchildren, Brittany Hazelwood and Layne Friedrich.
He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Karen Clingingsmith; one brother, George Clingingsmith; and two sisters, Beulah Dickerson, and Onis Sides.
Friends may call Friday, January 30th, between 4-8 PM, at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. An American Legion Service will be held at 7 PM. Funeral Service will be Saturday, January 31st, at 10:00 AM, at the funeral home, with Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating.
Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery near Fruitland with graveside military honors.

Roy Lee Huffman, 58, of Jackson died Friday, January 9, 2004, at his home. He was born April 5, 1945, in Fort Madison, Iowa, son of Hazen and Lucille Derr Huffman. On August 24, 1972, he married Cheryl Davis.
Huffman served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a general superintendent for Fru-Con Construction Company.
Loving survivors include his wife of Jackson; one son, Dyrk Huffman of Charleston,WV; one daughter, Brandi Huffman of Cape Girardeau, MO; his mother, Lucille Brinkshroeder of Fort Madison, IA; two brothers, Rex Huffman of Jacksonville, FL, and Ray Huffman of Pacific, MO; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother.

Edith Haman Heath, 94, of Cape Girardeau, died Thursday, January 22, 2004 at the Fountainbleau Lodge.
She was born July 3, 1909, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of William Christian and Adeline (Addie) Bennett Haman. She was married to Walter W. (“Chick”) Heath at Jonesboro, Illinois on May 22, 1928. He preceded her in death January 31, 1973.
Heath was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau. She is survived by one son, Air Force Major Robert E. Heath, Ret., and his wife, Helen, of rural Cape Girardeau County; two daughters, Carol Tritschler of Cape Girardeau and Patricia Ann Smith and husband, J. Hugh Smith of Cape Girardeau; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Barbara LiVigni, a brother, and two sisters.
A private family remembrance will be held at a later date.

Virginia Willetta Askew, 82, of Jackson, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at the Monticello House in Jackson.
She was born December 7, 1921, in Burfordville, daughter of Dennis A. and Carrie Z. Helderman.
On July 20, 1946, she and Beaven J. Askew were married, in Mississippi County, Arkansas. He passed away October 28, 1978.
Virginia was a graduate of the former Patton High School. She then worked in the “Rosie the Riveter” work force at the small arms plant in St. Louis during WWII. She later worked as a Psychiatric Technician at Pacific State Hospital of California. She was a member of Whitewater Methodist Church, its UMW, and Star Homemakers Club in Crump.
Loving survivors include a son, Michael D. Askew of California; three step-children, James and David Askew, and Marilyn Edmondson, all of Marion, Ill.; two sisters, Oma A. Hedge of Labadie, Mo. and Wanda L. McElreath of Burfordville; an aunt, Annis Short of Jackson; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson; and two brothers.

Janice Lynn Meyr, 52, of New Wells, passed away Monday, January 12, 2004, at her home.
She was born December 7, 1951, in Perry County, Missouri, daughter of Willard and Amanda Detjen Steffens. On January 23, 1971, she and Ron Meyr were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg. They would have celebrated 33 years of marriage next week.
Janice was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg. She and Ron were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells. Janice was active in the LWML, taught Sunday School 32 years, and had been a youth group leader.
She was previously employed at Steffens Orchard in Altenburg, Riverside Lumber, and Fruitland Dressed Meats. The past five years, she had worked at the Pocahontas Post Office until stricken by her illness.
The many hobbies she enjoyed included hiking, photography, reading, and gardening; but her beloved family was her true joy.
Loving survivors include her husband; five children, Brad Meyr and wife Kristi of New Wells, Penny Eatherton and husband Benjamin of Pocahontas, Josh Meyr of St. Louis, Jena Mabry and husband Branson of Altenburg, Paula Niedbalski and husband Scott of New Wells; five grandchildren, Chelsea and Ashlee Eatherton, Cody Schoenebeck, Amanda Mabry, and Bryn Meyr.
She is also survived by her mother of Altenburg; and three siblings, Vickie Goetz of Chaffee, Christine Schlichting of Altenburg, and James Steffens of Perryville.

Junior Martin “Pete” Hanschen, age 80, of Gordonville, MO passed away Monday, January 12, 2004 at his home.
He was born January 19, 1923, in Gordonville, son of Martin and Clara Eggers Hanschen. He and Doris Albin were married January 19, 1946. She survives.
Hanschen attended the former Gordonville School and was a 1941 graduate of Jackson High School. He worked 33 years at the International Shoe Co. in Jackson, 10 years at Proctor and Gamble, retiring in 1984. He was a lifetime member of Christ Lutheran Church in Gordonville.
Survivors include; three daughters, Sheila Kaiser and Miriam Mouser, both of Gordonville, Barbara Cody of West Plains, MO; one brother, Edward Hanschen of Gordonville; three sisters, Sarah Borchelt of Cape Girardeau, Minnie Whitler and Maggie Williams, both of Gordonville; six grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents and one brother.

Rettia M. Crites, 82, of Daisy, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at Heartland Care and Rehab in Cape Girardeau.
She was born September 3, 1921, in Daisy, daughter of Phillip and Rebecca Propst Sebaugh. She and Alfred R. Crites were married October 12, 1940. He passed away October 1, 1993.
Since June, Rettia had lived at Heartland Care & Rehab in Cape Girardeau; but she was a lifelong resident of Daisy, where she and Alfred farmed many years. She also was a lifelong member of Sargen’t Chapel Church, a former Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. She was a member of the Critesville Homemakers Club and cooked at the former Critesville School in Daisy.
Loving survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Doris Crites and Gale and Sandy Crites all of Jackson; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Wayne Ludwig of Jackson; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Leimbach and husband Rusby of Jackson.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Tim Crites and wife Marlene of Jackson, Lisa Coleman of Jackson, Terry Crites of Belleville, Ill., Jeff and Andrea Crites of Jackson, Tammy Crites of Jackson, Julie Rushing and husband Todd and Amy Ramsey and husband Bill, all of Jackson; and nine great-grandchildren, Linda, April, Stephanie, and Justin Crites, Colby and Brady Coleman, Colby Rushing, Alyssa and Blake Ramsey.

Elmer R. Reisenbichler, 88, of Pocahontas, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born May 6, 1915, in Pocahontas, son of Rudolf and Lena Tanz Reisenbichler. He and Lillian Wachter were married May 23, 1943.
Elmer farmed near Pocahontas all his life. He was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Pocahontas and held various church offices through the years. He was active in the leadership of the 4-H Jr. Leaders for over 40 years and was a former committee member for Cape County ASCS Office.
Loving survivors include his wife; a daughter, Darlene Bannister of Kerrville, Texas; a son, Don Reisenbichler of Jackson; a brother, Melvin Reisenbichler of Three Oaks, Michigan; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Delvin Edward Roth, age 75, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
Roth was born September 24, 1928 in Cape Girardeau, MO, the son of Walter and Cora Koeppel Roth.
Survivors include one brother, Franklin Roth of Camarillo, CA; three sisters, Brenda Shannon of Cape Girardeau, Marcella Buffington of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Eleanor Kindred of Biloxi, MS, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by two brothers.
He was a 1947 graduate of Cape Central High School. He worked over 37 years for Goodwin Printing Company in St. Louis, MO, retiring in 1990. He was a Private First Class in the U.S. Army, serving from March 13, 1951 to March 4, 1953.

Glen H. Friedrich, age 80, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2003, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Mr. Friedrich was born May 13, 1923, at Advance, Mo, the son Charley and Agnes Barker Friedrich. On March 8, 1949 he married Velma Corrine Gloth. She died August 1, 1997.
Survivors include two daughters, Lorene Backfish of Benton, Mo and Linda Putz of Millersville, Mo; three brothers Harl Friedrich of Whitewater, Mo, Earl Friedrich of Jackson, Mo, and Vincent Friedrich of Oak Ridge; one sister, Vivian Schneider of Jackson; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
Mr. Friedrich was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Army from 1944-1946. He was a member of American Legion Post # 158 in Jackson and also was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church since 1947. Mr. Friedrich farmed near Oak Ridge most of his life and has been a resident at the Veteran’s Home in Cape since August 2003.

Edna Mae Allen

Edna Mae Allen, 91, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born October 9, 1912, at Gordonville, Mo., daughter of Otto T. and Lillie May Harmon Miller. On August 5, 1946, she and Cleo Allen were married in Jackson. He preceded her in death October 26, 1967.
Edna and Cleo lived in Caruthersville from 1946 – 1952, and in Riverside, Ca. from 1952 – 1967. After Cleo died, Edna moved to Jackson where she owned and operated the former Edna Mae’s Beauty Shop from 1968 – 1976.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson.
Loving survivors include a son, Steven Allen of Encinitas, Ca.; a sister, Louise Nickerson of Saugerties, NY; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

Harold "Tom" Holloway

Harold “Tom” Holloway, 83, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, December 20, 2003, at the Missouri Veterans’ Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born February 3, 1920, in Illmo, Mo., son of Ulysses and Della Mae Anderson Holloway. He and Juanita Crader were married April 22, 1950. They celebrated 53 years of marriage in April.
Tom served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. He was a member of Teamsters Local #604 in St. Louis and drove 22 years for Complete Auto Transit, retiring in 1978. He then worked as a boiler room engineer at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau; as a chauffer at Chateau Girardeau; and at County Mart in Jackson. In 1994, after suffering a stroke and heart attack, he was forced to quit working. He had lived at the Veterans Home four years.
He was a member of the American Legion and VFW in Cape Girardeau.
Loving survivors include his wife; two sons, Ivan and Larry Holloway of Jackson; three daughters, Wanda Varney of Jackson, Judy Beattie-Hicks of Cape Girardeau, and Doris Woods of Benton; 23 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Cape Girardeau: Homer I. Markhart, age 59 passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at his home.
He was born November 13, 1944 in Cape Girardeau, the son of Ivan and Edith Poe Markhart. He and Nancy Rhodes were married December 3, 1977. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Homer, Jr. and JoDonna Markhart of Cape Girardeau, Joseph and Yvonne Markhart of Benton, MO, Dennis and Angela Wolsey of Radcliff, KY; four daughters, Dawn Raines and her husband, Scott, of Scott City, Betsy Collier and her husband, Chad, of Cape Girardeau, Jessica Rhodes and her husband, Darrin, of Cape Girardeau, and Alanna Domnick of San Diego, CA; two brothers, Erwin Markhart of Couer D’Alene, Idaho and William Markhart of Tuscon, AZ; 18 grandchildren, Courtney, Danielle and Joshua Markhart, Harley and Skyler Markhart, Darren Wilkerson, Brent, Corey and Kaitlyn Wolsey, Austin, Destainie and Chloie Raines, Michael and Michaela Markhart, Jake and Devan Wolpers, Travis Rhodes, and Ethan Domnick; and a former son-in-law, Rick Wolpers of Cape.
Homer graduated form Cleveland High School in St. Louis in 1962. He began working for Proctor and Gamble in 1969, where he designed various machines and operational equipment. He retired as a trainer in 2000.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed prospecting for gold as a hobby. He was planning a trip to Alaska in the summer of 2004 to prospect. He was an avid mud 4-wheeler and was a Civil War enthusiast, attending many Civil War enactments. Homer was a life-long member of the National Rifle Association and was of the Methodist Faith.

Wilson J. Ervin

Wilson J. Ervin, 81, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Wilson was born July 19, 1922, in Benton, Missouri, son of Henry and Earsy Simmons Ervin. He and Dorothy Beggs were married May 31, 1944, in Morley, Missouri.
He was inducted into the U.S. Navy on December 11, 1944, serving in WWII. He was honorably discharged on April 11, 1946. He farmed several years in Benton. From 1955 – 1962, he lived and farmed near Oak Ridge, and then moved to Jackson.
He worked at the former Marquette Cement Plant from 1960 – 1967, and then worked as a meat inspector for the N.F.D.A. until retirement in 1987. Wilson became an ordained deacon while a member of the Oak Ridge Baptist Church. He had been a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson the past 40 years.
Loving survivors include his wife, Dorothy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Susan Ervin of Tiptonville, Tennessee, and Darrell and Pam Ervin of Arnold, Missouri; five grandchildren, Michelle Pope and husband Brian, Shane Ervin and wife Kerri; Greg Ervin and wife Kim, Kurt Ervin and wife Kelly, Jason Ervin and wife Kelly; 11 great-grandchildren; and a half-sister, Flossie Kirsch of Benton, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by two half-brothers, and two half-sisters.

Esther Beatrice Pope Owens, 78 of Jackson, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born December 22, 1924, in Oran, Mo., daughter of Joseph E. and Ollie M. Sheppard Pope. On February 9, 1946, she married Cicero W. Owens. He died October 2, 1982.
Loving survivors are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Aaron and Kay Gilbert of Metropolis, Ill, Fay and Dennis Turbeville of Patton,Mo, and Susie Fulton of Warrensburg, Mo.; one sister, Mae Rauls of St. Louis,MO; eleven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

LaVern J. Bangert, 79, of Jackson, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born November 25, 1924, in Jackson, daughter of Charles and Erna Lowes Meyer. She and Wilbur “Wib” Bangert were married July 5, 1946, in Osceola, Arkansas. He passed away October 30, 1998.
LaVern worked at the former International Shoe Factory in Jackson. From 1956 – 1972, she was co-owner and bookkeeper for former Bangert Auto Body Service Center in Jackson; and in 1972, she became co-owner of Bangert Tractor Sales.
She was an avid bowler and member of Bangert Tractor Bowling Team, a charter member of Kimbeland Golf Club, a member of the Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Auxiliary, and enjoyed volunteering at the Veterans’ Home. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. Loving survivors include a son, Rick Bangert of Jackson; a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Ed Luehrs of Jackson; two grandchildren, Andrew and Sarah Luehrs; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Carlton “Cotton” and Clemency Meyer of Jackson and Harold and Peggy Meyer of Springville, Tenn.; and a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Lou Ficken of St. Louis.
She was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Arthur B. Miller, 87, of Jackson, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2003, at the Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born August 1, 1916, in Hannibal, Missouri, son of Arthur B. and Zetta Miller. He and Angela Leimer were married December 4, 1981
. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was an orderly at the old St. Francis hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Mitch, Blake, Dane, Tim, and Gabe Miller; a stepson, Richard Ruch, and several grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a stepson.

Curt Oscar “Pat” Hoehne, 84, of Shawneetown, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2003, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born August 28, 1919, in Altenburg, Mo., son of Joseph and Johanna Ahner Hoehne. He married Virginia Abernathy in 1946. She passed away in 1976. He and Marjorie Fluegge Wachter were married June 20, 1981, in Shawneetown, Mo.
In 1942, he entered the U.S. Marine Corp. Serving in WWII, he was a Platoon Sergeant and served in Okinawa. Hoehne was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for being wounded in action and also the Bronze Star Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
Hoehne had farmed and he had established the first school bus route for Perry County. He then later was a truck driver for 20 years for East Perry Lumber Company, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of the American Legion in Perryville and was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown, serving as an Elder, Trustee, on Church Council, and various other committees. He was a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wittenberg.
Loving survivors include his wife, two daughters and sons-in-law, Melanie and Rick Gimpel of Simpsonville, SC, and Rebecca and Norman Anderson of Carnation, Wash.; four grandchildren, Gregory and Grant Gimpel, Ryan Cornehlson, Rachel Anderson; one sister, Frieda Newberry of St. Louis; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, George, Leonard, and Leo Hoehne; and three sisters, Emilie Moeslein, Cordia Kieback, and Martha Scholl.

Francis B. “Beryl” Stroder, 83, formerly of Burfordville, passed away Monday, December 8, 2003 at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born January 14, 1920, in Laflin, Mo., daughter of John and Carrie Schaefer Huffman. She and Hilbert Stroder were married February 20, 1937, in Jackson. He passed away February 11, 1973.
The Stroders raised their family in Burfordville. In 1962 they moved to House Springs, Mo. In 2000, she returned to live at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in House Springs.
Loving survivors include three sons Wayne Stroder and wife Kathie of Oak Ridge, Mo., Kelly L. Stroder and wife Donna of Hillsboro, Mo., Ken Stroder and wife Connie of Fenton, Mo.; three daughters, Jackie Johnson of Cape Girardeau, Mary Lou Estes and husband Wayne of Jackson, Kathy Bast and husband Larry of St. Louis.

B. Lucille Kight Long, 91, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2004, at her home.
She was born December 22, 1912, in Allenville, Missouri, daughter of Dallas Hugh and Sara Ella Waddle Zimmerman. She married Linus Kight on July 11, 1934. He passed away in 1940. She and Terry O. Long were married September 10, 1950. They were married 53 ½ years.
Lucille attended Southeast Missouri State College and Cape Business College. She was employed 37 years at First Federal Savings and Loan in Cape Girardeau. She began her career there as a secretary, and retired April 1, 1984, as a vice president.
She was a 50-year member of OES Chapter 174 in Whitewater.
Loving survivors include her husband, Terry; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Linda Kight, and grandchildren, Heather and Justin Kight, all of Overland Park, Kansas; six nieces; four nephews; and 25 great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
A private graveside service will be held at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery, with Rev. Jim Cooper officiating.

Gladys worked 12 years in the obstetrical unit at St. Francis Hospital. After retirement, she volunteered at Southeast Hospital. She was a member of Cape Bible Chapel, PEO Chapter EY, Scott City, and Cape Girardeau Quest Club.

She was born September 4, 1918, in Greenville, Missouri, daughter of Henry and Lucinda Wilson Daves. She and Fred Engelmann were married December 24, 1938, in Jackson. He passed away January 4, 1982.
Marie was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. When she was physically able, she was active in the Ladies Aid. In 1999, she moved to assisted living at the Lutheran Home. She had been in skilled care since last fall.

Norma H. Hurt, age 84, formerly of Jackson, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2004, at her daughter’s home in St. Louis.
She was born February 5, 1920, in Old Appleton, Missouri, daughter of William P. and Martha R. Bodenschatz Bingenheimer.
Norma was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Uniontown and attended the former Apple Creek Valley Grade School in Old Appleton.
In 1942, she moved to St. Louis and worked at the J.C. Penney Warehouse and as a PBX Operator at Hadley Dean Glass Company. She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church.
In 1982, Norma moved back to Jackson and became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Due to her failing health, she returned to St. Louis in 1998 to be near her daughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Correne Schilling of St. Louis, and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

Mae Sander, age 84, of Jackson, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
Mae was born July 4, 1919 near Millersville, daughter of Arthur B. and Willie May Moore Limbaugh. She and William K. “Bill” Sander were married on March 20, 1937, at Houston, MO. He passed away February 7, 1991.
Mae was a graduate of Jackson High School class of 1935.
She and her late husband were co-owners and managers of the Albert Sander Hardware Company in Jackson and Cape Girardeau for over 30 years. She was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson and a member of the Order of Eastern Star #91 in Jackson for over 50 years. Mae was a Past President of the Demolay Mother’s Club in Jackson and involved with the Job’s Daughters in Cape & Jackson. She and her husband were supporters of the Cape Girardeau Association of Retarded Citizens for many years.
Her greatest achievement for which she will be most remembered is the love, devotion, and nurturing she tirelessly and unselfishly gave to her family.

Susan Elaine Hinkebein, age 47, of Jackson, MO, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO.
She was born December 10, 1956, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Bernard and Dorothy Morie Kluesner. She and Ronald S. Hinkebein were married May 29, 1976.
Susan was a 1975 graduate of Jackson High School and a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University and Webster University of St. Louis. She worked as a registered nurse for 27 years at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, where she was the Saint Francis Hospital Employee of the Year in 1993, was a member of the Quarter Century Club, a member of The Friends of Saint Francis, served on the Employee Caring Fund Committee, and actively participated in the Della Heise Vial of Life Program.
Susan was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson, where she was a former Parish Council member.
In 2002 she received the Jackson Heritage Association Unsung Hero Award. Being extremely involved in the local 4-H council, Susan has been the Fruitland 4-H Club leader for the past seven years, past officer of the council, and was named Outstanding 4-H Leader of the Year 2002. She has been the nurse at 4-H camp for many years where she was affectionately known as Nurse Susan.
She was a member and past Vice President of the Jackson Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary.
Loving survivors include her husband, Ron, and their daughter, Blair, of Jackson; her parents; two sisters, Denise McDowell and her husband, Tom, of Jackson, and Linda Haynes and her husband, Mike, of Ste. Genevieve; a brother, David Kluesner of New York, New York; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Elmer “Gib” Petzoldt, 84, of Pocahontas, passed away Monday, March 8, 2004, at the Missouri Veterans’ Home in Cape Girardeau, MO.
He was born August 28, 1919, near Pocahontas, MO, son of Herman and Anna Scholl Petzoldt.
He was baptized September 14, 1919, and confirmed April 9, 1933, at Zion Lutheran Church in Pocahontas. A lifelong member of the church, he had served on the church council as elder and trustee, and on the finance board.
Gib entered the U.S. Army on April 2, 1941 and worked as a medical technician in military hospitals. He was honorably discharged October 6, 1945, as a staff sergeant. Upon his return from the service, he resided with his brother and sister-in-law, Olaf and Linda Petzoldt, and their children, Gene, Jerry, and Sharon. He worked in construction until he retired in 1975 to work on the family farm.
Loving survivors include two sisters-in-law, Linda Petzoldt of Pocahontas and Nelta Petzoldt of Jackson; nephews, Gene and Jerry Petzoldt of Jackson; and niece, Sharon Schuessler of Jackson.
Other surviving nephews and nieces are Clayton, Leon, Gary, Lonnie, and Ronnie Tuschhoff, Paul Koenig, Willard, Truman, and Larry Petzoldt, Olga Ruessler, Rosie Pierce, Leona Thomas, Nelda Leinger, Esther Reisenbichler, Oliva Yeager, Laverne Ruehling, and Vivian Fiehler.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Edwin, Aaron, Hugo, Rito, and Olaf Petzoldt; two sisters, Flora Koenig and Lucy Tuschhoff; one nephew, Ray Tucchhoff, and one niece, Melba Petty.

He was born October 26, 1929, in Jackson, son of Walter and Ollie Morrison. He and Evie Menke were married March 18, 1987.
Morrison was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army May 31, 1963. He then worked as a truck driver for Consolidated Freights, retiring in 1981. He was a member of Altenthal Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson, the Excelsior Masonic Lodge #441 in Jackson, and the Cape Girardeau Elks Lodge.

Venah Mae Cobb, age 91, of Millersville, MO passed away Saturday, March 6, 2004, at the Monticello House in Jackson, MO where she had been a resident since November 14, 2001.
She was born March 24, 1912, in Marquand, MO, daughter of John and Mildred Brown Gibbs. Since the age of seven, she was raised by her step-mother, Johanna Wagner Gibbs. She and Webster Cobb were married December 24, 1936 in Glen Allen, MO. He died November 11, 2002.
Venah was a member of New Trace Creek Baptist Church in Bollinger County. She lived near Millersville for 55 years.

Joe H. Bollinger, age 79 of Sedgewickville, MO died Saturday, March 06, 2004 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born November 21, 1924 at Sedgewickville, son of Elmer and Mary Ellis Bollinger. He & Myrtle Weibrecht were married December 23, 1950 at Ste Genevieve, MO. She survives. He was a lifelong member of Patton Presbyterian Church. Bollinger farmed in the Sedgewickville community all his life and served in the US Army during WW II.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Sam Bollinger of Sedgewickville, Ray Bollinger of Fruitland, Steve Bollinger of Jackson, Ron Bollinger of Cape; four daughters, Carol Bollinger of Sedgewickville, Janet Hampton of Jackson, Ellen Hampton of Leadville, CO, Margie Schoppa of Cape; 26 grandchildren & 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son & 3 brothers.

Clifford Raymond Stacy, age 76, of Cape Girardeau, MO passed away March 2, 2004, at his home.
He was born July 7, 1927, in Randles, MO, son of Lemuel and Lucy Simmons Stacy. He and Beatrice Angle were married August 10, 1950, she died October 17, 1975. He and Pearl Hager were married January 30, 1976, she died July 2, 2003.
Loving survivors include four daughters, Shirley Umbeck of Daisy, MO, Brenda Sandlin of Goodlettsville, TN, Ruth Burke of Whitewater, MO, and Debbie McCullough of Cape Girardeau; one son, Clifford W. Stacy of Marble Hill, MO; two brothers, Elmer Stacy of Davenport, Iowa and Murel Stacy of Woodriver, IL; four sisters, Ora Stacy and Roxie Turner, both of Lakewales, FL, Wanda Holland of Advance, MO and Mary Janette Chapman of Cape Girardeau; 23 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, two grandsons, two great-grandsons, and two sisters.
Stacy served in the US Army during the Korean War from October 25, 1950 to October 23, 1952. He moved to Cape Girardeau from Whitewater in 1952. He worked at the former Marquette Cement Plant for 11 years. He also was a drapery installer for Rust & Martin from 1976 until retiring in 1993. Mr. Stacy was a former a member of Southside Baptist Church in Cape and in 1994 became a charter member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Cape where he served as an usher for many years.

She was born June 30, 1936, in Sevier County, TN, daughter of Willie and Mollie Whaley Webb. She and Joe Motley were married on August 9, 1958. He died October 30, 1990.
Motley worked many years as an LPN at Deal Nursing Home in Jackson. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Millersville.

He was born September 22, 1947, in Jackson, son of Charles O., Sr. and Carol Farrow Lunsford.
He is survived by a son, Mark Lunsford of Jackson; his mother; two brothers, Darrell Lunsford of Oriole, Gary Lunsford of Jackson; three sisters, Kathryn Pasley of Jackson, Lana Ussery of Wittenberg, Pat Koch of Oak Ridge; and three grandchildren.

Helen Mildred Wessel, age 86, of Gordonville, MO, passed away Friday, February 27, 2004, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, MO.
She was born July 21, 1917, in Jackson, MO, daughter of John O. and Ida Hitt Statler. She and William H. Wessel were married October 1, 1942. He died June 10, 1989.
Mrs. Wessel worked for the former Rozier’s Clothing Store in Jackson prior to her marriage. She joined Zion Lutheran Church after her marriage where she was a member of the Ladies’ Aid, and the quilting group for many years. She entered the Lutheran Home in January of 2000.
Loving survivors include two sons, Leon Wessel of Marble Hill, and John Wessel of Gordonville; one daughter, Janet Streckfuss of South Dakota; one sister, Cecile Wilkinson of Millersville, MO; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers.

Louis F. Stoops, age 72, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2004, at the Monticello House in Jackson.
He was born December 11, 1931, in Cape Girardeau, son of Merritt and Verda May Stoops.
Stoops played baseball for the Cincinnati Red’s Farm Club in Texas. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 – 1964 where he was in the Special Services as an ambidextrous pitcher, traveling to Texas, Missouri, Kentucky, the Carolina’s, Germany, Spain, France, and England. Stoops was a barber in Dallas, Texas until his return to Cape Girardeau in 1997.
Loving survivors include one son, Michael Stoops of Windsor, Conn.; one brother, T.H. Stoops and one sister, Zola Huckstep, both of Cape Girardeau.
He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Eileen V. Kieninger, age 94, of Jackson, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2004, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born June 17, 1909, in Pocahontas, MO, daughter of Martin C. and Aymer L. Torrence Kieninger.
Ms Kieninger was Baptized and Confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Pocahontas. She worked as a supervisor at Beltex Corp in St. Louis from 1949-1978. She was a past member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in St. Louis. Kieninger moved to Jackson in 1992 where she was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and its Joy Group.
Loving survivors include two brothers, Clarence Kieninger of Jackson, MO and Leslie Kieninger of Pocahontas; two sisters, Elvera Cutter and Lavera Barlow, both of Dillsboro, IN; four nephews; seven nieces; and many great-nephews and great-nieces.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and one nephew.

Ellis E. Haertling, 68, of Frohna, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born February 7, 1936, in New Wells, son of Eldor and Alma Meyr Haertling. He and Juanita Versemann were married June 17, 1961.
Ellis was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1960. He farmed many years in the Frohna community and was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells.
Loving survivors include his wife; two sons, Carey and Dan Haertling of Frohna; daughter, Tracy Haertling of Kirksville, Mo.; two grandchildren, Jesse and Alicia Haertling; and two brothers, Milton Haertling of New Wells and Willis Haertling and wife Thelma of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Haertling.

Leo Edward Combs, 95, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2004, at the Monticello House, where he had lived since last September.
He was born May 5, 1908, in Fredericktown, son of John H. and Eva Miller Combs. He and Mabel N. Noblin were married November 17, 1930, in St. Louis. She passed away April 4, 1984.
Leo worked 23 years at the former American Packing Company in St. Louis. In 1946, the Combs family returned to Fredericktown; but Leo continued his employment in St. Louis. He initially worked in residential construction, and then he was employed for Weber Construction, where he worked on many overpasses on Interstate 55. In 1975 he retired from Weber.
Leo was a member of Local 1795 Carpenter’s District Council of Greater St. Louis and the Odd Fellows Lodge in Fredericktown. Faithful to his Lord, Leo was an active member of Parkin Memorial United Methodist Church in Fredericktown; and upon moving to Jackson in 1988, became a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church.
Loving survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Richard and Julie Combs of Jackson; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Clint Yount of Barnhart, Mo.; five grandchildren, Scott Yount and wife Jeanette, Tracy Yount, Rebecca Shoemaker and husband Gary, Deanna Turner and husband Ronald, Alica Combs; five great-grandchildren, Dannielle and Drew Yount, Ashleigh Turner, Nicholas and Maria Zuccarini.

Steve Wille, 40, of Jackson, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2004, at his home.
He was born April 24, 1963, in Cape Girardeau, son of Clement “Clem” and Verla Sides Wille. He and Kris Mangels were married May 16, 1987.
Steve was a 1981 graduate of Jackson High School; and had worked at the former Lenco, Procter & Gamble, and most recently at ATP Radio Shack in Jackson.
He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
Loving survivors include his wife, Kris; and children Ian and Melana of the family home; his parents, Clem and Verla of Jackson; brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Alice Wille of University City, Missouri. She was born September 22, 1913, in Jackson, daughter of Frederick H. and Lillian F. Day Loos. She and Elmer Borgfield were married February 8, 1931, in Jackson. He passed away August 15, 1990.
Agnes and Elmer owned and operated Borgfield Angus Farm near Sedgewickville until 1981, when they moved to Cape Girardeau.
She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
Loving survivors include two sons Harry L. Borgfield of Festus and Cletus Borgfield of Jackson; one daughter Elsie Gerecke of Gordonville; a half sister Georgia Meyer of Cape Girardeau; ten grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

Sheila worked over 20 years at Gates Rubber Company in Charleston, retiring in August, 2003. She was a member of Sikeston Community Baptist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir.

She worked at various grocery stores in the St. Louis area as well as the Cookie Factory in St. Louis. Fallin was a member of the Jackson Church of Christ.

Inez Holder, 77, of Jackson, formerly of Scott City, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2004, at the Jackson Manor Nursing Home.
She was born August 14, 1926, in Black Oak, Arkansas, daughter of Robert and Myrtle Hurt Nance. She married Bobby Wiggins, and later married Eugene Holder. They both preceded her in death.
Inez worked 19 years at the former Lowenbaum Dress Factory and then the former Ralph Edwards Jacket Factory in Cape Girardeau. In 1985 she began working at Blair Industries in Scott City and retired in 1998 due to her failing health.
She attended New Bethel Baptist Church in east of Pocahontas, and had lived at the Jackson Manor since November, 2003.
Loving survivors include her son, Bobby C. Wiggins and his friend Janet Keesee both of Jackson; three grandchildren, Christina O’Nove of Georgia, Marsha Baber of Scott City, Daniel Wiggins who is stationed in Germany; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was born May 18, 1934, in Jackson, son of Robert C., Sr. and Ollie L. Seabaugh Friedrich. He and Patricia Ruth “Pat” Schulte were married July 2, 1959. She passed away June 7, 1995.
Bob served in the U.S. Army. From 1957 through 1959, during the U.S. occupation of Germany, he was stationed at Hohenfels, Germany, and was the Chief Radio Repairman.
He worked 30 years in Jackson Electric, the family business, and was a member of I.B.E.W. Local #1 for 39 years. He was a lifelong member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson, was a former Sunday School teacher, and served on the church council.
Bob was well known for his dedication to scouting. In 1962, he chartered and was Post Advisor to Explorer Post #211 in Jackson, a high-adventure post specializing in canoeing, camping, Indian history, and Indian dancing. He took his scouts on trips around the country for leadership conferences, hiking, and camping. He was a Vigil Honor Member of the Order of the Arrow.
An avid civil war historian, he also took the scouts to Shiloh and other battlefields, combing history, hiking, and camping within each trip. His post performed many service projects at Camp Lewellen.
Bob and Pat always welcomed scouts in their home at any time and became “second parents” to many of them. With their family farm situated on the Trail of Tears on Greensferry Road in Jackson, Bob was especially interested in the Indians heritage. Upon recommendation of the Governor John Ashcroft, Bob was appointed by President Reagan, to the National Trail of Tears Commission. He served many years working to provide history of the trail and signage for the National Trail of Tears.
Sadly missed by his loving family, he leaves three sons and daughters-in-law, John and Gloria Friedrich of Cape Girardeau, Eric and Annie Friedrich and Robert and Lisa Friedrich all of Jackson; five grandchildren, Brittney, Jordan, Logan, Jacob, and Tate Friedrich; a brother, Jon P. Friedrich of Gordonville; and a sister, Mary Ruth Wheaton of Millersville; and a dear friend, Kim Walker of Jackson.
In addition to his wife, Pat, he was also preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Service will be Tuesday, February 10th, at 11 AM, at the church, with Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating.
Burial will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery with graveside military honors.
Serving as pallbearers are Chris Friedrich, Jim Lewis, John Lichtenegger, Jim Wills, Tom Schulte, and Jimmy Johnson.

Donald L. Keith

Donald L. Keith, age 78, of Jackson, died Tuesday, February 3, 2004, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born March 8, 1925, in Roaring Springs, Penn., son of Roy and Josephine Raugh Keith. He married Ella Dee Martin in 1950 at Paragould Ark. She survives.
Other loving survivors include a son, Dennis M. Keith and his wife, Jeanne, of Jackson; two grandchildren, Kristina Keith of Savannah, GA, and David Keith of Jackson; two step-grandchildren, Melissa Craft and Danielle Seabaugh of Jackson; two step-grandchildren, Austin Seabaugh and Caleb Craft of Jackson; and a half brother, Richard Weitzel of Utah.
He was preceded in death by two half-sisters.
Donald served in the United States Navy during World War II, serving in the European, North African, and the Asiatic Pacific Theaters from March 1944 through May 1946.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Jackson, Altenthal Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson, V.F.W. Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau, and was an honorary member of the Local I.B. E. W. #702 in West Frankfort, Illinois. He was also a member of Excelsior Masonic Lodge #441 in Jackson, 32nd degree Scottish Rite, Order of Eastern Star, and the Sword of Bunker Hill. He was employed with Missouri Utilities Co. as a Journeyman Lineman from 1952 till 1963, and was a business representative for Local 702 I.B.E.W. from 1963 till retiring in 1988.
Friends may call Friday, February 6, between 4-8 PM, at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:00 PM. Funeral Service will be Saturday, February 7, at 11:00 AM, at the Funeral Home with Rev. Carter Frey officiating.
Interment will follow in Russell Heights with graveside military honors.

Harold J. Enke, 86, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2004, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born November 15, 1917, in St. Louis, son of Walter J. and Linda P. Wachter Enke. He and Rosa A. Perr were married September 27, 1941, at New Wells. She passed away March 14, 1998.
Harold graduated from the former Altenburg Public High School. From 1942 – 1982, he worked at the former L.H. Landgraf Lumber Company in Cape Girardeau, during which time he also worked as a carpenter. He then worked four years at Wunderlich Real Estate in Cape Girardeau. He had been a member of Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau since 1998. He was active in its men’s club and other church functions. He was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, its men’s club where he was awarded his 50-year pin, and was an usher and trustee.
Loving survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Janet Enke of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Carolyn Rouviere of Cape Girardeau; three brothers, Walter Enke of Altenburg, Calvin Enke of Uniontown, Robert Enke of Columbus, GA; and two sisters, Delphine Kasten and Dorothy Mueller both of St. Louis.
Also surviving are three grandchildren, Michael Enke of St. Louis, Michelle Perkins and husband Tom of Raleigh, NC, Christine Gaither of Cincinnati, OH; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Isabella Perkins. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Rose Marie Hecht, age 68, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, February 01, 2004, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born June 10, 1935 at Shawneetown, daughter of Otto and Rosa Roth. On May 8, 1954, she married Melvin Hecht. He preceded her in death on September 13, 1994.
Mrs. Hecht was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church at Shawneetown. She has been a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church at New Wells for many years. She and her husband owned and operated a dairy farm at Shawneetown.
Loving survivors include her son and Daughter-in-law Ron and Sheila Hecht of Jackson; four grandchildren, Donald Clippard II, Crystal Guilliams and husband Wade, Amy Clippard, and Kacie Marie Hecht; five great-grandchildren, Tray Blair, Payne Guilliams, Indiha Clippard, Piper Guilliams and Flint Guilliams; a sister, Irma Wallis and husband Ted of St. Louis; and a brother-in-law Delmar Hutteger of Jackson.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Viola White, Irene Hutteger, and Hilda Kolaks.

Michael Curtis Heaton, age 17, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2004 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born March 8, 1986, the son of Paul and Stephanie Linkenhoker Heaton.
Michael was a sophomore at Jackson High School. He and his family moved to Jackson in 1998 from Groton, Connecticut.
Loving survivors include his parents of Jackson; one brother Timothy Heaton of Jackson; maternal grandmother, Sandra Linkenhoker of Newton, NC; paternal grandparents Herbert and Enid Heaton of Columbia Crossroads, PA; four aunts, two uncles and one cousin.
