Daisy W. Niswonger, age 83, of Cape Girardeau, MO, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2004, at her daughter’s home in Cape Girardeau, where she had been living for the past two years.
She was born October 9, 1921, in Oak Ridge, MO, daughter of Harry W. and Bertha Clingingsmith Skinner. She and Joe D. Niswonger were married August 3, 1940. He passed away September 9, 1986.
Daisy was a member of the Red Star Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. She worked in the laundry department at Southeast Missouri Hospital from 1958 until her retirement in 1986.
Loving survivors include four daughters, Pat Moreno and husband, David, of Jackson, MO, Mary Gayle Moore, and husband, Wayne, Marjorie Diane Craft, Ruth Ann Weibley and husband, Don, all of Cape Girardeau; three brothers, Warren and Ray Skinner of Jackson, and Joe Skinner of Mesa Arizona; one sister, Mary Walters of Louisville, Kentucky; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild, three great-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Virginia Lee Niswonger, at birth, and Wanda Coomer Newberry, June 22, 2000; four brothers; and one sister.
There will be no visitation. Public graveside service will be Wednesday, October 13, at 2:00 PM at the Niswonger Cemetery west of Millersville, MO. Wayne Moore will officiate.

Glenn W. “Spider” Fronabarger, age 84, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, October 9, 2004 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born March 13, 1920, in Oak Ridge, son of Albert M. and Shrilda Sawyer Fronabarger. He and Mary Dale Jones were married April 25, 1947 in Jackson.
Mr. Fronabarger was a veteran of WW 11 having served in the United States Navy on the USS Minnesota from 1944 -1946. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge. He was an avid fruit grower, owning and operating his own orchard near Oak Ridge for many years. Mr. Fronabarger also farmed and worked in construction.
Loving survivors include his wife Mary Dale of Oak Ridge; a son Wayne Fronabarger and his wife Marilyn, of Oak Ridge; a brother Dale Fronabarger of Oak Ridge; a granddaughter Kelly Fronabarger and a grandson Darin Fronabarger both of Cape Girardeau.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Fronabarger and an infant sister.

Ruby R. Wammack, age 81, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2004, at the Monticello House in Jackson. She was born June 21, 1923, in Sage, Ark., daughter of Johnny and Elizabeth Mynatt Wammack.
Ruby was a member of the Illmo Baptist Church.
She was a former resident of Yuma, AZ, moving to Jackson in 1979. She had worked at the former Superior Electric Co. in Cape Girardeau.
Loving survivors include one son, Johnny Oxley and wife, Sandra, of Merrillville, IN; a daughter-in-law, Evelyn Oxley of Fruitland, MO; four grandchildren, John Oxley, Jr., Gary Oxley, Heather Grojean, and Nathan Oxley; four great-grandchildren, Maya Cora Rhea Grojean, Blake Arthur Reese Grojean, Ethan Charles Oxley, and Nick Kane.
She was preceded in death by one son, Terry Oxley; four sisters, and three brothers.

James Russell Launius

James Russell Launius, 87, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Monday, October 4, 2004, at his home.
He was born January 23, 1917, in Bloomfield, Mo., son of Dwight T. and Elma A. Aslin Launius. He and Mary Lee Barham were married September 15, 1940. She preceded him in death February 24, 1996. He and Imogene Eaton Hastings were married August 22, 1998 in Cape Girardeau.
Russell was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Corps in July, 1943. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal in December, 1945.
Mr Launius was member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City where he served as a Deacon for 30 years. He was an active member of Gideon Int’l and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Bloomfield, Mo. He was employed by the State of Missouri for 43 years, retiring in 1980 as a personnel director after serving in various capacities in State government.
Loving survivors include his wife, Imogene, of Cape Girardeau; two children, Kathryn A. (Rollan) Garrison and James Barry (Phyllis) Launius, both of Jefferson City, Mo.; two step-daughters, Katherine (Rod) Gilmore of Fenton, Mo and Carla Graham of Cape Girardeau, Mo; two granddaughters, Kristi (Jim) Buhr and Kara (Brian) Rackers, both of Jefferson City, Mo.; a step-grandson, Derek (Sarah) Gilmore of Leawood, Ks; 6 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are five siblings, Lillian Skelton of Hamilton, Mont., Louise Halstead of Bakersfield, Ca., Lois Vaughn of Dexter, Mo., Doy Launius of Moorpark, Ca., and Ruth Ann Fritsen of Hamilton, Mo.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Calvin G. Walter

Calvin G. Walter, 79, of Jackson, died Friday, October 1, 2004, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home.
He was born February 13, 1925, in Campbell, Mo., son of Gilbert and Eva Fleming Walter. He and Lorene Lincoln were married June 13, 1947.
Calvin was inducted into the U.S. Navy July 9, 1942. He was a signalman second class and received a purple heart due to injuries sustained in World War II. He was honorably discharged November 2, 1945.
Calvin was a minister for 45 years. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Westside Church of Christ in 1976, and ministered there several years. He also worked 19 years as a building inspector for the City of Jackson, retiring in 1990. He was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson.
Survivors include his wife Lorene of 57 years; two daughters, Trisha Wischmann, her husband Gustav; and Judy Leigh Walter, all of Jackson; a brother, Tom Walter of Boise, Id.; and a sister, Charlene Pollard of Piggott, Ark.
Also surviving are three grandsons, Richard Wischmann of O’Fallon, Mo., 1st Lieutenant, Derek Wischmann of Fort Hood, Tex.; and Warrant Officer One, Ashley Wischmann of Cape Girardeau; two great-grandsons, Gus Anthony and Brent Matthew Wischmann; and a great-granddaughter, Maggie Rose Wischmann.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Roy Gene, and Phillip Walter; a sister, Marie Schrader; two infant sisters; and a granddaughter, Natasha Wischmann.

Lucille Cook, age 82, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born October 28, 1921, in Whitewater, MO, daughter of Lee and Ida Barks Huffman. She and Ruthford Cook were married December 24, 1938. He passed away December 30, 1980.
Lucille was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jackson where she had been active in the Adult Sunday School.
She had worked at the former Hosiery Mill in Jackson, the former Jackson Dressed Meat and the former International Shoe Co. in Jackson. In 1995 she and her son, Ron, co-founded Cook’s Bar-B-Q in Jackson, where she worked until ill health forced her to retire in 2001. For the past year, she had resided at the Monticello House in Jackson.

Brenda K. Schniedermeyer, 50, of Jackson, died Monday, September 27, 2004, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, due to complications from a brain aneurysm.
She was born April 11, 1954, in Jerseyville, Ill., daughter of John and Edna Pence Mooneyhan. She and Paul Schniedermeyer were married November 15, 1986.
Brenda attended high school in Knobel, Ark. She received an associate degree at Forest Park Community College in St. Louis, a degree in social work from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau; and a master’s degree in social work from St. Louis University.
During her early career, Brenda worked at various area daycares. After college, she touched many lives through her work at the Community Counseling Center in Cape Girardeau, SEMO Mental Health Center in Farmington, Mo., and most recently the Family Counseling Center in Cape Girardeau.
In addition to spending time with her family, Brenda especially enjoyed canning, quilting, and reading. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson.
Loving survivors include her husband of Jackson; four children, Anthony Giambalvo of Rolla, Mo., Marsha Giambalvo of St. Louis, Shaun Matthew and Roger Schniedermeyer of Jackson; and her mother, Edna Hendrix of McDougal, Ark.
Also surviving are eight siblings and their spouses, Travis and Rose Mooneyhan of Rector, Ark.; Lance and Laura Mooneyhan of Rector; Dennis Mooneyhan of Knobel; David and Rosalie Mooneyhan of Pollard, Ark.; Roger and Rosemary Mooneyhan of McDougal; Raymond Mooneyhan of McDougal; Carol Calhoun of Rector; and Sharon Lyles of Bangor, Mich; several nieces and nephews; and many caring friends.
She was preceded in death by her father.

Mabel M. Davenport, 86, of Marble Hill, Mo., passed away Friday, September 24, 2004, at the Monticello House in Jackson.
The daughter of Sterling and Emma Crader Stroder, Mabel was born March 1, 1918, in the Hickory Grove Community in Cape Girardeau County.
She worked at the former Litz Poultry and 15 years at Ceramo Co., Inc., retiring in 1985. She was a former member of Gravel Hill United Methodist Church.
Loving survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Lonnie and Ruth Davenport of Marble Hill; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Clifford Bollinger of Cape Girardeau, Frances and Larry Cutright of Marble Hill.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, Randy Bollinger, wife Sue, children Brandon and Austin of St. Louis; Todd Gohn, wife Beth, children Autumn, and Jeremiah of Hawaii; Traci Gohn, daughter Kelsey Mauk of Memphis, Tenn.; and Jeri Lyn Hoxworth of Jackson.
Mabel was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Elda N. Isaac, 95 of Cape Girardeau, died Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born June 10, 1909 at Cape Girardeau the daughter of Fred W. and Anna Brandes Schrader. She and Walter L. “Pop” Isaac were married on March 17, 1929. He preceded her in death on January 2, 1982.
Loving survivors are three grandchildren, Brad Brown and Tammy May of Cape Girardeau and Kendra Brown of St. Louis; three great-grandchildren Ryan and Katelyn May and Sarah Brown; a son-in-law Darrell Brown of Cape Girardeau; a brother Charles Schrader of Cape Girardeau; and a sister-in-law Marticia Schrader of Cape Girardeau.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Yvonne Brown and two brothers Bud Schrader and Harlan Schrader.
Elda was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

Loeta B. Helderman, 87, of Marble Hill, Mo., died Thursday, September 23, 2004, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home in Jackson.
She was born November 6, 1916, in Crump, Mo., daughter of Birt and Ethel McCoullough Brown. She and Woodrow A. Helderman were married December 31, 1934, in Jackson. He died January 21, 2001.
Loeta was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church and its Naomi Circle. She was a lifetime member of the Jackson Trail Riders, T.W.P.H.C. of Missouri, and a 50-year member of Eastside Homemakers Club in Jackson. Loving survivors include a son, Bobby A. Helderman of Marble Hill, Mo.; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Jerry Hitt of Millersville; a sister and brother-in-law, Elode and Bill Siebert of Cape Girardeau.
Also surviving are four granddaughters, Debbie L. Thurman, husband Chuck, children Sammie and Corey, of Jackson; Kandi L. Smith, husband Doug, children Bennett, Emilee, and Olivia, of Burfordville; Bobbie L. Reagan, husband Sean of Jackson; Beckie L. John Marvin Campbell

John Marvin Campbell, age 93, of Cape Girardeau, MO, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2004, at the Monticello House in Jackson, MO. He was born September 26, 1910, in Jackson, son of John F. and Minnie W. Meyer Campbell. He and Elizabeth Friedrich were married November 25, 1937. She passed away February 17, 1967. He later married Mary Garner Richards, October 6, 1973. She survives.
Marvin graduated from SEMO in 1942 with a B.A. in Industrial Arts and Agriculture. He taught elementary school in Southeast Missouri for years. He was the first County Public Health Officer in Cape Girardeau County, serving for 37 years before retiring in 1985.
Marvin was baptized and confirmed at the Hanover Lutheran Church, transferring to Trinity Lutheran Church in 1952. He was a church usher, was very active in the Men’s Club, a past Sunday School teacher, a former president of the congregation, and active in other church and various civic organizations in the Cape Girardeau and Cape Girardeau County area. He was also a member of the SEMO Booster Club for many years.
Loving survivors include; one son and daughter-in-law, John Mark and Rebecca Campbell of Jackson; two daughters, Rachel Campbell of Elgin, IL, and Libby Roth of Chicago, IL; one brother and sister-in-law, William and Ruth Campbell of Jackson; two sisters, Margaret Brinkoff of Cape Girardeau, and Veneta Willbrand of St. Charles, MO; five grandchildren, Damon (Amanda) Campbell, Brian Campbell, Wesley Campbell, Gennifer (Chris) Mays, Campbell Paige Roth; eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Harbinson.

Mary Margaret Billingham, 93, of St. Louis and formerly of Jackson, died Thursday, September 16, 2004.
She was born February 15, 1911 at Jackson, the daughter of Silas and Mamie Bauer Crole.
Mrs. Billingham received a B.S. in Education from Southeast Missouri State University and did graduate work at Washington University, Webster College, Maryville University and Denver College. She began her teaching career at Oak Ridge Public School in 1930 and retired from Brentwood Public Schools in 1976. She was a member of many national & local professional organizations.
Survivors include one brother, Charles Crole of Jackson and one sister Maxine Crole Gladfelter of Warrensburg.

Mildred A. Kayser, age 88, formerly of the Sedgewickville area, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2004, at Rosewood Care Center in St. Louis.
She was born October 10, 1915, in Sedgewickville, MO, daughter of Edward and Annie Masters Friese. She and Thomas E. Kayser were married May 12, 1934, in Perryville, MO. He passed away June 3, 1990.
Mildred attended the Church of Nazarene in Overland, MO. She had been employed at Bussman Fuse Co. in St. Louis before retiring in 1981.
Loving survivors include a sister, Marie Kraft of St. Louis; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters; and a brother.

Jason Benjamin Schafer, 17, of Cape Girardeau, died Monday, September 20, 2004, in a tragic car accident near his home.
He was born January 9, 1987, in Cape Girardeau, son of Robert J. “Bob” and Shirlene S. Barks Schafer.
Jason attended elementary school at Nell Holcomb and was currently a senior at Jackson High School, where he played junior varsity basketball in ninth grade and had been a member of the varsity team since his sophomore year. He was a returning starter and an All-Conference Player. Having been on AAU and USSA traveling teams, he had played at various colleges and was especially looking forward to playing college ball. He was also a member of the school’s FBLA and attended Cape Bible Chapel where he was previously active in the recreational church basketball league.
Loving survivors include his parents; two brothers, Bradley and Gordon Schafer of Cape Girardeau; and maternal grandmother, Pauline Barks of Grassy.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George and Clara Schafer; and maternal grandfather, Melvin Barks.

Rita M. “Pete” Linebarger, 93, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, September 19, 2004, at the Lutheran Home where she has resided the past 10 days.
She was born November 15, 1910, in Millersville, Mo., daughter of Alexander H. and Mary Edith Hartle Looney. She and Everette Lee Linebarger were married June 14, 1936, in Cape Girardeau. He passed away October 4, 1990.
Pete and her husband moved to Jackson in 1950 from their farm at Millersville. Pete was a graduate from Cape Business College, and later worked for the former T. J. Seabaugh Grocery Store. She and her husband started The Linebarger Plumbing and Heating Company in Jackson in 1952. At the same time she also worked at the former International Shoe Company in Cape Girardeau for 32 years retiring in 1972.
She was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson for many years. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 310 in Oak Ridge, where she was a past worthy matron and received her 50 year pin in 2000. She was also a member of the Calvary White Shrine #8 of Cape Girardeau, and a charter member of Amarath Court #14 in Cape Girardeau.
Loving survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Jo Ellen and J.D. Schneier, June and Dwight Kelley, all of Cape Girardeau, and Judith and Gene Fawley of Pensacola, Florida; 13 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; seven great-step-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Grace Drum.

Mildred “Irma” Kasten, 93, formerly of Jackson and Altenburg, MO, fell asleep in Jesus Wednesday, September 15, 2004, at Saxony Village in Cape Girardeau.
She was born March 20, 1911, in Fruitland, MO, daughter of Theodore H. and Louise B. Pfeiffer Leimer. She and Oscar “Buster” Kasten were married May 7, 1933. He passed away November 12, 2003.
Irma was baptized April 2, 1911, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pocahontas. She was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Altenburg and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
She was both a child and a servant of the Lord’s. Her whole life was directed by these two roles. She earnestly sought the Lord’s counsel and she drew upon her faith to see no one as a stranger. As a caretaker throughout her life, she opened herself up to include many people as family. She shared the daily and spiritual things of life. She did this always with zest and spunk.
Loving survivors include one son, Robert Ronald Kasten and wife, Barbara, of Meritt Island, FL; three brothers, Tilman Leimer of Cape Girardeau, Ervin Leimer of St. Louis, MO, and Wilmer Leimer of Perryville; one sister, Nelda Ludwig of Pocahontas, MO; two grandchildren, Michael Kasten and wife, Becky of Champaign, IL, and Julie Johnston and husband, Derek of Oak Ridge, NC; five great-grandchildren, Isaac, August, Sadie, and Ella Kasten all of Champaign, IL, and Brett Johnston of Oak Ridge, NC.

Trula E. Mayfield, 80, of Sedgewickville, MO, passed away Friday, September 17, 2004, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since May 2004.
She was born July 8, 1924, in Daisy, MO, daughter of the late Ellis and Hannah Barks Seabaugh. She and Carl C. Mayfield were married July 11, 1942, in Jackson, MO.
Trula was baptized in the Caney Fork Baptist Church when she was a young girl. She joined the Methodist Church after moving to Sedgewickville and held different offices in the church and W.S.C.S. Women’s Organization. She was a dedicated worker in the church and Sunday School.
Survivors include her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Florene Mayfield of Rolla, MO; two sisters, Ilena Hartle of Jackson, MO and Verla LaChance of Warsaw, MO; one brother, Cletus Seabaugh of Bend, OR; four grandchildren, Mike Mayfield and wife, Jessica of Columbia, MO, Tim Mayfield and wife, Julie of Rolla, MO; Sissy Korich and husband, Jim, of Rolla, MO, and Jeremey Taylor of the state of Illinois; five great-grandchildren, Zachery, Jayden, and Holden Mayfield, Hannah Taylor, and Morgan Korich.
She was preceded in death by one son, Donald Kent Mayfield on September 16, 1959; and one infant sister.

Anna E. Henderson, 82, of Delta, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2004, at her home.
She was born July 18, 1922, south of Kennett, daughter of Luther Thomas and Veda Mae Burns Felker. She and Charles Allen Henderson were married December 24, 1950, in Jackson.
Anna was a graduate of Oran High School and received her teaching degree from Southeast Missouri State University. She taught business courses at Advance, Bell City, Caruth, Southern Illinois, Delta, and Chaffee high schools. She held the position of postmaster in Delta for a time, and helped her husband on the farm. She especially enjoyed gardening.
Since 1951, she had been a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, and member of its Esther-Hannah Circle. She was currently a trustee for the Apple Creek Presbyterian Cemetery Association, and formerly served as president for several years.
Loving survivors include her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Carol Henderson, and their children, Elaine, Matthew, Emily and Lisa Henderson, all of Delta; a brother and sister-in-law, George and Mildred “Mick” Felker of Chaffee.

Vesta worked 10 years at the former Jackson Hosiery Mill, and 18 years at the former Lee Rowan Company in Jackson, retiring in 1983.
She was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Jackson.
Loving survivors include her husband, Glen; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Ann and Mark Masterson of Jackson; a granddaughter, Erica Masterson of Jackson; and a great-grandson, Isaiah Charles Masterson.

She was born September 23, 1940 at Neelys Landing the daughter of Maple and Blanche King Craft. She and Donald Niswonger were married on July 16, 1960. He survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Robin Bates of Cape Girardeau and Kim King of Oak Ridge; one brother, Raymond Craft of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Niswonger was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau where she served on the Kitchen committee, Baptismal Committee and the prayer team. She had worked at the former Hoisery Mill, the former Yellow Bird Ice Cream Parlor, Coca-Cola Bottling Company, and the former Harvest House Restaurant all in Jackson. She retired in 1984 for health reasons.

Mildred Runnels, 85, of Jackson, died Friday, September 10, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born September 13, 1918, in Millersville, daughter of Burette and Addie Robins Brown. She and Dealing “D.D.” Runnels were married July 18, 1935, in Burfordville. He died May 5, 1997.
In 1963, the Runnels moved from Whitewater to Jackson. They farmed near Crump many years, where Mildred attended Bethlehem General Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Larry Hugh Runnels, Jeffery Runnels, and Joe Runnels, all of Pocahontas; three daughters, Gloria Bennette McSpadden, Lela Green, and Katie Green, all of Jackson; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John “Doc” Brown of Fredericktown, Loomis “Jach” Brown of Jackson; and three sisters, Bonnie Clardy of Jackson, Dorothy Stroder of Chaffee, and Ivy Houchins of Whitewater.

Richardson was a member of Bethlehem General Baptist Church in Crump, and a former member of the Star Homemaker Club. She was a homemaker and lived on their farm at Crump all of her married life.

Earl J. Hayes, Jr., 77, of Marked Tree, Ark., died Saturday, September 4, 2004, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born January 14, 1927, in Lepanto, Ark., son of Earl J. and Lillie Trucks Hayes, Sr. He first married Colon B. Williams, and later married Mary B. Richardson Smith.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Asiatic Pacific Theatre during World War II from April 20, 1945 to June 10, 1946, and was a member of Martin-Courtney VFW Post 4835 in Creve Coeur, Ill.
Earl worked for the Catapillar Tractor Co. for 40 years and after retirement, moved to Sarasota, Florida. In 1997 he moved to Marked Tree, Arkansas. He had been living with his daughter, Beth Newell, in Jackson since April.
Loving survivors include three sons, Danny Hayes of Dyersburg, TN, Jerry Hayes of Paducah, KY, Randy Hayes and wife, Marilyn, of Groveland, IL; three daughters, Judy Roberts, and husband, James, of Pisgah, Alabama, Donna Steenblock of Grand Ridge, Florida, Beth Newell, and husband Gene, of Jackson; twelve grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Also surviving is a sister, Inis Liles of Haines City, Fla.; step-brother, Roy H. Ray, Jr., of New Bern, NC; and two stepsisters, Marie Stallings of Manilla, Ark. And Katherine Bostic of Holtville, California.
He was preceded in death by his step-father, Roy H. Ray, who raised Earl from a young boy; a brother; a sister; a step-brother; and a step-sister.

He served in the U.S. Army from March 5, 1945 to November 30, 1946. Brown farmed near Millersville since 1948. He worked at the former International Shoe Company in Cape Girardeau and retired from Lenco Manufacturing in Jackson in 1990.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Millersville.

Robert Lee Schooley, age 58, of Millersville, MO, passed away Thursday, August 26, 2004 at his home.
He was born April 6, 1946, in St. Louis, MO.
He and Sandra Ives were married December 21, 1968, in St. Louis.
On December 16, 1966, he was inducted into the United States Army. He served in Vietnam, where he received among other honors, three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged on December 13, 1968 as a sergeant.
Schooley was the plant manager of Florsheim Shoe Factory in Cape Girardeau before his retirement in 1992. He was a member of Cape Bible Chapel.
Loving survivors include his wife, Sandra Schooley of Millersville, and a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Emily Schooley of Cape Girardeau.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Eugena Martz.

He was born September 9, 1920, in Sedgewickville, son of Ora and Minnie Statler Hahs. He and Ruby Barks were married July 20, 1941, in Sedgewickville. She passed away December 14, 1988.
Eugene attended the former Sedgewickville Elementary School and graduated from Oak Ridge High School. On November 5, 1942, he was inducted into the United States Army. He was honorably discharged on November 13, 1945 as a Staff Sergeant.
He was a farmer and owned and operated the former Hahs and Son Egg Farm in Sedgewickville. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sedgewickville and Moonier – Reddick American Legion Post #133 in Perryville, MO.
Loving survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Sheila Hahs of Sedgewickville; daughter and son-in-law, Gena and Mike Welker of Patton; and five grandchildren, Kirk Smith, Bridget and Whitney Welker, Joel and Jenna Hahs.

Dona C. Heise, age 93, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2004, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, where she had been a resident since 1990.
She was born December 24, 1910, in Laflin, MO, daughter of Joseph and Barbara Wills Crites. She and Otto Heise were married November 14, 1931. He preceded her in death April 15, 1983.
Loving survivors include one son, Melvin Heise and wife, Janice, of Millersville, MO; daughter, LaWanda Werner and husband, Vernon, of Jackson; five grandchildren, Randy and wife, Connie, Werner and Mark Werner of Jackson, Beth and husband, Rob, Janet of Cape Girardeau, Tim and wife, Debbie, Heise of Millersville, MO, and Tammie and husband, Steve, Duncan of Kearney, NE; 13 great-grandchildren, Brett, Erin and Brian Duncan of Kearney, NE, Krista and Nicholas Heise of Millersville, Whitney, Kylie and Tanner Werner of Jackson, Clay and Dakota Werner of Jackson and Jordan, Tayler and Ali Janet of Cape Girardeau, MO. Melvin H. Blumenberg, age 73, of Whitewater, MO, passed away Monday, August 16, 2004, near his home.
He was born February 9, 1931, in Whitewater, son of Albert and Amanda Deneke Blumenberg.
On February 2, 1954, he was inducted into the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged on March 31, 1962, as a Private First Class. Blumenberg farmed all of his life in the Whitewater community. He was a life member of Zion United Methodist Church of Gordonville, where he was a Trustee. He was a member of the “Come Join Us” Sunday School Class, the Men’s Club, the Visioning Team, a member of the Henderson Mission Trip team, and a former member of the Administrative Board.
Loving survivors include a brother, Gene Blumenberg of Whitewater; a sister, Maxine Friedrich of Jackson; several nieces and nephews.

HELEN RUTH BURRESS, age 74, died Tuesday, August 17, 2004, at the St. Francis Medical Center at Cape Girardeau.
She was born October 24, 1929, in Atkins, Tn, daughter of Wesley and Ozell Randolph Samples. She and Lawrence Burress were married October 25, 1947. He survives.
Also surviving are a daughter Ann Godier and husband Gary of Wentzville, MO; two sisters, Barbara Schulze of St. Charles, MO and Shirley Smith of Arab, Alabama; two brothers, Travis Samples and Sonny Samples both of Memphis, TN; two grandsons, Scott Godier of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and Bryan Godier of Wentzville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother James Samples and an infant sister.
Helen was a member of the New Hope Methodist Church in New Hope, TN. She and her husband moved to Jackson in 1980 from St. Louis County.

Betty L. Dickerson, age 50, of Jackson, passed away Monday, August 16, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
She was born May 5, 1954, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Joe and Zita Hess.
Betty was born and raised on the family farm near Illmo, MO. She graduated from SEMO State University in 1988 with a B.S. degree in management. She was the kitchen manager for the Cape Girardeau Country Club, and a member of the Eckankar Faith.
Loving survivors include one son, Joe Dickerson of Ypsilanti, MI; a friend, Fawn Coomer of Cape Girardeau; three brothers, Jim Hess of Chaffee, Charlie Hess of Scott City, and Earl Hess of Knoxville, TN; three sisters, Lill Hess of Scott City, Alice Hess of Chaffee, and Aleen Conway of Park Hills, MO.

Howard L. Kinder, 90, of Jackson, died Sunday, August 15, 2004, at Eldercare of Marble Hill.
He was born August 22, 1913, near Whitewater, son of William and Della Smith Kinder. He and Eula “Pete” F. Steinhoff were married February 3, 1940. She died December 23, 1997.
Howard worked several years at the former International Shoe Factory in Jackson and several years for Friedrich Sheet Metal in Jackson, retiring in 1979. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Jackson, where he and Pete formerly worked in the children and youth Sunday School departments and assisted with G.A.’s and R.A.’s.
Survivors include his sister-in-law and neighbor, Jennie Friedrich, her children and their families: Jim and Kathy A. Friedrich, children Ria and Rika, grandson Hunter; Allen Friedrich, children Blake and Trent; Mary and John Thompson, children Emily and Sara; and Kathy Friedrich, all of Jackson; Jennifer Cook, children Allison and Rick of League City, Tex.; Nonie and Anthony Cowell, children, Luke and Toni, and grandsons Zach and Elliot of Marble Hill and Jackson; nieces and nephews, Carrie Pearson of Las Vegas, Nev., Betty Fox, Bill King, Wayne Eddleman, all of the Jackson area; and numerous other loving family members.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Kinder; and two sisters, Dorothy King and Ruth Eddleman.
Special acknowledgement is extended to the caring staff at Eldercare of Marble Hill and St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau for the friendship and compassion shown to Howard during his visits.

Martha Lynn Niemann Denson, age 40, of Jackson, passed away Monday, August 16, 2004, at her mother’s home in Gordonville, MO.
She was born January 8, 1964, in Cape Girardeau, MO, daughter of Vernon “Pedro” and Judith Moore Niemann. She was formerly married to Phillip Denson.
Martha was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Gordonville, and in 1986 became a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Gordonville. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1982 and attended SEMO University, acquiring the credentials to be a pre-school director. Martha had worked at the former Beverly Care and Rehab Center in Cape Girardeau, and Kinder Care in Cape, acting as its director from 1989-1998. She had also worked at Curious Kids in Fruitland. In 2000, she became the director of Just Kids in Cape Girardeau.
Loving survivors include four children, Mindy L. Denson of Cape, Jody L. Denson of Jackson, Hailey C. Hoxworth and Brian L. Hoxworth, Jr., both of Jackson; her mother, Judith Riehn of Gordonville; one sister, Laurie Burns and her husband, “Bo” of Gordonville; two nieces, Alisha and Sarah Burns of Gordonville; a grandmother, Evelyn Moore of Gordonville; the grandparents of Mindy and Jody Denson, Chuck and Sue Denson of Cape Girardeau; and a special friend, Brian Hoxworth.

Dr. Michael Charek

Dr. Michael Charek, 76, of Cape Girardeau, died Wednesday, August 11, 2004, at his home, after an extended illness.
He was born November 2, 1927, in Rohozna, Romania, son of Nicholas and Helena Moldovan Charek. He and Ingeborg J. “Inge” Russek were married December 21, 1951.
In March, 1951, during the Korean War Era, Michael was inducted into the U.S. Air Force. He became disabled in Vietnam. Last stationed at Scott Air Force Base, he retired a Senior Master Sergeant in June, 1976. In 1979, he received his doctorate degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill. The family moved to Cape Girardeau in 1980, and he began teaching electronics courses in the Industrial Technology Department at Southeast Missouri State University. After retirement in 1991, he became a volunteer instructor teaching English to foreign students at Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center. He was a member of the VFW, DAV, and St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, where he served as an elder.
Survivors include his wife, Inge, of 52 years; two sons, Michael R. Charek and wife Janice of Portland, Me., Nicholas C. Charek and wife Roswitha of Jacksonville, Fl.; two daughters, Eleonore Thomas and husband Robert of Carbondale, Ill., Ingrid J. Walker and husband Tim of Pace, Fl. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Howard F. Thomas and wife Cheryl of DuQuoin, Ill., Heather A. Thomas of Carbondale, Ill., Monica B. Charek of Bozeman, Mont., Nicholas Charek and wife Alice of Portland, Me., Jesse A. Charek, Nathan B. Charek, and Michael H. Charek of Jacksonville, Fl., Alan N. Walker and Sarah E. Walker of Pace, Fl.; two great-grandsons, Harrison and Brennen Thomas of Duquoin, Ill.; and five cousins of Heilbronn, Germany.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Christopher Michael Thomas.

Maud E. Hahs, age 98, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2004, at the Monticello House, where she had lived since March 2002.
She was born January 8, 1906, in Whitewater, MO, daughter of August and Annie Baker Gartung. She and Ellis “Doc” Hahs were married May 20, 1927, in Jackson, MO. He passed away February 21, 1955.
Maud was a charter member of the former Calvary Baptist Church in Jackson. She owned and operated a boarding home for the elderly in Jackson for many years. She lived at her home on Nellie Street for over 40 years.
Loving survivors include one daughter-in-law, Betty H. Hahs; one grandson, Robert Hahs; one grand-daughter, Paula Tucker and her husband, Kenneth; four great-grandchildren, Annie Tucker, Kady Tucker, Molly Hahs and Samuel Hahs; one nephew, Bobby Barks and his wife, Claueda Barks, all of Jackson.
She was preceded in death by one son, Paul “Jake” Hahs who died in 1979; one brother; and one sister.

Mary Evelyn Lane, age 95, formerly of Jackson, passed away Monday, August 09, 2004, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born January 1, 1909, in Medora, IL, daughter of Ora and Alice Lovell Carmean. She and Paul D. Sivia were married in 1942. He died March 18, 1974. She and Carl J. Lane were married September 25, 1978. He died April 18, 1979.
Mary received her Master’s Degree at Sorbonne in Paris, France. She and Paul Sivia moved from Hannibal, MO to Jackson in 1960. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson and served as facilitator for Barrett Current Missions Group for many years. She was a member of Thursdays Literary Club, Suburban Garden Club, and volunteered at St. Francis Medical Center.
She taught in public schools in Anna and Mt. Vernon, IL, and Hannibal and Cape Girardeau, MO. She retired from the Cape Girardeau Public School system in 1976. Mary moved to Chateau Girardeau in 1996.
Loving survivors include a step-son, Carl Lane, Jr. of Las Angeles, CA; one niece, Bobbie Burke of Herrin, IL; a great niece, Brandi Burke; and a great nephew, Dale Burke.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Ora Burke.

Laura Anna Voshage Birk, age 93, formerly of Jackson, MO, passed away Friday, August 06, 2004, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. She was born June 10, 1911, in Kurreville, MO, daughter of Albert and Bertha Grass Winkler. She married William Heider in 1930. He died in 1933. She then married Henry Voshage in 1937. He died in 1977. She and Martin Birk were married September 16, 1979 in Jackson. He passed away June 13, 1994.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit, and of the Ladies Aid.
She is survived by a niece and her husband, Clara and Leonard Ahrens of Jackson. Clara lived in the Voshage home from age 2 ½. She is also survived by five great nieces; Karen Kern, Sharon Rosberg, Saundra Birk, and Patsy Green, all of Jackson, and Carolyn Gerecke of Cape Girardeau; one nephew; two other nieces; four step-sons, Loyd, Orville, and Glen Birk, all of Jackson, Donald Birk of Elderado Springs, MO; and one step-daughter, Alice Ahrens of Jackson; 11 step-grandchildren, 22 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and one step-great-grandson.

Adolph Gustav Charles Ludwig, age 89, of Jackson, passed away Monday, August 2, 2004, at Heartland Care and Rehab in Cape Girardeau.
He was born September 18, 1914, in Cape Girardeau County, Mo. near Fruitland, son of Louis and Ida Tuschhoff Ludwig. He and Olga Henry were married May 30, 1942.
On June 13, 1941, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served during WWII. He was honorably discharged September 7, 1945.
Adolph was a self-employed building contractor and constructed many homes in the Jackson area. He was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post #158 in Jackson, and was a faithful member of St. John’s United Church of Christ near Fruitland where he was active in many capacities.
Loving survivors include his wife, Olga; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Mary Ludwig; a daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Mike Redman; and a brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Luella Ludwig, all of Jackson; three grandchildren, Chad Ludwig of Jackson, Tonya Arnold of Delhi, La., Michael Cook of St. Louis; and two great-grandchildren, Skyler and Devon Shelley of Delhi, La.

Willman R. Petzoldt, 72, of Jackson, passed away Monday, August 2, 2004, at his home.
He was born August 5, 1931, in Pocahontas, Missouri, son of Rudolph A. and Rosalie Kain Petzoldt. He and LaVerne Leimbach were married January 26, 1957. She died April 11, 1985. He and Jettie Felty Holt were married January 1, 1987.
Loving survivors include his wife; one son, Daniel Petzoldt of Victorville, California; one stepson, Keith Holt and wife Angie of Gordonville; two step-daughters, Jeanne Deimund and husband Mitchell of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, and Julie Holt of Nashville, Tennessee; one granddaughter, Kristin Adams; and three step-grandchildren, Bryant Holt, Aaron Deimund, and Amanda Wunderlich. Also surviving is one brother, Raymond Petzoldt and wife Donna of Jackson; and three sisters, Mabel Steffens of Frohna, Missouri, Marjorie Lohmann and husband Willis of Farrar, Missouri, and Violet Sanders of Perryville, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by a son, David Petzoldt; two brothers; and one sister.
Willman was inducted into the U.S. Marines February 1, 1952, in Cape Girardeau and served in Korea. He was honorably discharged January 31, 1954 at Camp Pendleton, California.
He worked several years at Missouri Dry Dock in Cape Girardeau and Penzel Construction Company in Jackson. He then worked 24 years for the County of Cape Girardeau as a bridge foreman, retiring June 1, 1997.
He was a lifelong member and former church council member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pocahontas; and was a member of the VFW in Jackson.
