Harold Lee Wright

Jackson: Harold Lee Wright, age 70, passed away Friday, February 1, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, after suffering an apparent massive heart attack, at the Little Ole Opry near Burfordville. Friends may call Monday, February 4th, between 4-8 PM, at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, February 5th, at 11 AM, at the funeral home, followed by interment in Russell Heights Cemetery, with a Missouri Military Honors Service. Rev. Janet Hopkins will officiate. Harold was born March 9, 1931, at Jackson, son of the late Elmer and “Anna” Lillian Nitsch Wright. He and Mollie Haupt were united in marriage November 19, 1955. Loving survivors include his wife, Mollie, of Jackson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Mary Wright and Scott and Rebecca Wright, all of Cape; two daughters and a son-in-law, Donna and Steve Stedman of Jackson, and Wendy Wright and her finacee, Gary Parker of Cape; and a sister, Allene Reaves of Grand Junction, Colorado. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Zachary and Macy Wright; Britnie and Tyler Jones; Doyle and Jason Stadt, and Kyle Stedman; and Sarah, Leah, and Nina Parker. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a nephew.
In 1950, Harold opened Wright’s Garage in Cape, where he continued to work with his sons up to the present time. Prior to opening his business, he worked for the former Superior Electric in Cape. Harold was a Tank Mechanic in the U.S. Marines, serving from January, 1952, through December, 1953, having attained the rank of Corporal. He earned a Korean Medal with two stars, the National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve on January 7, 1960. He was a lifetime member of the Cape VFW. Harold formed his first band in 1988. He loved singing and playing his guitar, and especially enjoyed making music with his friends at the Little Ole Opry near Burfordville, where he sang on a regular basis. He was also enjoyed fishing and camping. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association or the Diabetes Foundation.

Cape Girardeau: Anna Marie Eddleman, age 81, passed away Friday, February 1, 2002, at the Lutheran Home in Cape. Funeral Service will be Monday, February 4th, at 10:30 AM, at the funeral home, followed by interment in Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. Rev. Jim Cooper will officiate. Mrs. Eddleman was born June 14, 1920, at Cape, daughter of the late James L. and Gertrude Pearl Borneman Green. She and Walter C. Eddleman were united in marriage March 25, 1941. He passed away July 18, 1988. Loving survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Lonnie Bangert and Donna and Jim Mason, all of Jackson; brother, J.W.Green of Cape; two sisters, Ella Dee Crow of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Mary Sue Oldham of Jackson; and a great-granddaughter, Morgan Bangert of Jackson. Two brothers and one grandson, Rob Bangert, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Eddleman was a loving mother and homemaker. She had lived at the Lutheran Home the past two years. She was a member of Maple United Methodist Church in Cape, a member of its Loyal Aiders Sunday School Class, and was active in the choir. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary #3838 in Cape, and was formerly active in the PTA at Cape. Cape Girardeau: W.R. “Russell” Nelson, age 91, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2002, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Funeral Service will be Saturday, February 2nd, at 10:30 AM, at the funeral home, followed by interment in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. Rev. Daniel Hale will officiate. Mr. Nelson was born August 1, 1910, at Newark, Missouri, son of the late Fredrick L. and Mary V. Whitbread Nelson. He and Hazel P. Hendrix were united in marriage November 2, 1929, at Fredericktown. Mrs. Nelson passed away August 14, 1978. Their only child, W.R. “Dub” Nelson, Jr. passed away in 1965. Four brothers and three also sisters preceded him in death. Loving survivors include a grandson, W.R. “Rusty” Nelson III, and his wife, Valerie, of Jackson; one granddaughter, Cindy Ingram of Cape; one sister, Louise Propst of Cape Girardeau; and two great-grandchildren, Dustin and Danielle Ingram, both of Cape. In 1945, the Nelsons established Nelson Farm Produce and Supplies in Millersville. In 1952, Mr. Nelson was appointed as the Millersville Postmaster and Mrs. Nelson assisted him until her death in 1978. He retired from the postal service in 1990. He later closed the store in 1996. Mr. Nelson was a charter member of Millersville United Methodist Church. He was also a member of West-View Masonic Lodge in Millersville, where he was a Past Worshipful Master and former Lodge Secretary for many years. He had also been awarded a 50-year pin from the lodge in 1998; and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star at Millersville. Joe Allen will officiate. Mr. Stroder was born March 3, 1921, at Whitewater, son of the late M. Luther and M. Lela Heimbach Stroder. He and Ruby Marie Cook were married November 24, 1956. Loving survivors include his wife, Ruby, of Whitewater; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Susan Stroder of Collinsville, Illinois; two daughters and a son-in-law, Bonnie Stroder of Whitewater and Connie and Eric Waltenberger of Edwardsville, Illinois; two brothers, Carl Stroder of Marion, Illinois, and John Stroder of Granite City, Illinois; and five grandchildren, Jason, Ashleigh, and Jessica Stroder, Nathan Stroder, and Wyatt Waltenberger. His parents, two brothers, and one sister preceded him in death.
Mr. Stroder attended Southeast Missouri State University and then served in the US Army Air-Corp from November 25, 1942 through April 14, 1946. In 1951, he began working at Granite City Steel (now National Steel) in Granite City, Illinois, retiring in 1979 as an engineer-switchman. In 1980, the Stroders moved from Granite City to Whitewater. They attended Bethlehem General Baptist Church. Mr. Stroder was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post #158 in Jackson. Jackson: Mr. Gilbert Martin Richter, age 91, passed away Monday, January 28, 2002, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. Gilbert was born January 17, 1911, at New Wells, son of the late Martin and Ida Grebing Richter. On February 11, 1940, he married Oliva Popp. She passed away July 15, 1970. He then married Florence Reid on May 23, 1975. She passed away July 22, 2001. Loving survivors include a son, Merlin Richter of St. Louis; daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Leon Laurentius of Jackson; stepson, Larry Reid of Oak Ridge; and stepdaughter, Betty Borgfield and her husband, Terry, of Jackson; and a brother, Walter Richter of Orlando, Florida. Also surviving is a grandson, Paul Laurentius and his wife, Susan, of Jackson; granddaughter, Laura Klinkhardt and her husband, Gary, of Jackson; four great-grandchildren, Brandon and Dawson Klinkhardt, and Chelsey Jo and Morgan Laurentius; seven step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren. Four brothers and four sisters preceded Mr. Richter in death.
Gilbert and Olivia lived and farmed many years at Frohna, during which time he also worked as a stacker at East Perry Lumber. In 1965, they moved to Jackson, becoming members of the St. Paul Lutheran congregation, and Gilbert worked at Brenneke Chevrolet. After his retirement from Brenneke’s, he worked at the former Leming Lumber Company in south Cape. After Gilbert and Florence were married, they resided many years in Cape, moving to Jackson in 1992. Gilbert’s family will remember him as a quiet, loving, and faithful father, who was happiest when his mind was occupied and his hands were busy. In his later years, he took great pleasure in gardening and daily walks around Cape and Jackson. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Paul Building Fund or Organ Fund.

Claris Evelyn Schneider

Claris Evelyn Schneider of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, passed away at the Lutheran Home on Saturday, January 26, 2002. She lived 89 years, 7 months, and 5 days. Mrs. Schneider was born June 21, 1912, in London, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Christopher Columbus and Minnie Sherman Tipton. After her mother’s death, she became the daughter of her beloved second mother, Ethel Baldwin Tipton, whom her father married when Claris was three years old. In her youth, she resided at Dupo, Illinois, and graduated from Dupo Community High School in 1932. She married Ebert Edward Schneider, Sr., of Cape Girardeau on February 14, 1935, in Dupo, Illinois. The Schneiders lived near Chaffee, Missouri, until moving to the Gordonville and Cape Girardeau area in 1941. They were dairy farmers. Mrs. Schneider was a member of Zion Lutheran Church located south of Gordonville after being confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Chaffee, Missouri, in Septemeber of 1935. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid, LWML, and Zion Quilters. Her dedication to community service was typical of her unselfish nature. She was a 40-year member of the Missouri Home Economics Extension Clubs (now University of Missouri Extension Clubs), also Campster and Oak Grove Clubs, and served as President of the County Council for two terms. She was also a leader of 4-H Club activities for more than 25 years and served as President of the County Council for several years. She served as a Charter member of the Agricultural Extension Council, and as a member of the Cape County Farm Bureau. She was a member of the Oak Grove Homemakers Club and the County Extension Club for many years, serving as an officer numerous times. As a life-long seamstress, she worked at the former Fab-N-Trim in Cape Girardeau.
Loving survivors are five children, Edna Lee Slinkard of Cape; Rose Marie Meadows and her husband, Howard, of Manchester, Missouri; June E. Borgfield and her husband, Don, of Jackson; Ebert E., Jr. “Butch” and Sharon Schneider of Gordonville; Rev. Jack A. Schneider and his wife Carolyn, of Plano, Texas; and a foster daughter, Oma Dell Clark, of Lindenhurst, Illinois. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, Robin White, and her husband, Drew, of Cape; Christy Montgomery of Plano, Texas; John David Slinkard II and his wife, Tami, of Holland, Michigan; Kelly Slinkard-Ard of Cape; Scott Meadows and his wife, Regina, of Arnold; Kim Hodo and her husband, Rob, and Penny King and her husband, Greg, all of Jackson; Kevin Schneider and his wife, Jennifer, and Brett Schneider, and his wife, Holly, all of Cape; Todd Schneider and his wife, Karen, and Stephanie Schneider, all of Jackson; Aaron Schneider of San Diego, California; Marc Schneider of Benbrook, Texas; and Karen Lusk of Plano, Texas. Surviving great-grandchildren include Jacob and Chelsea White of Cape; Melanie and Erich Montgomery of Plano, Texas; Trista and Wesley Anderson of Holland, Michigan; Nicholas and Daniel Slinkard of Cape; Alesha Meadows of Arnold; Lacie Hodo of St. Louis; Rachel Hodo of Jackson; Brandee Reagan, and her husband, Chris, of Fredericktown; Danielle King of Jackson; Zachary and Nathan Schneider of Cape; Michael Schneider of Jackson; and Adriana Schneider of southwest Fort Worth, Texas. Also surviving is a sister and brother-in-law, Lee and Larry Wirth of St. Louis; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and Pearl Mueller of Columbia, Illinois; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Tipton of N. Little Rock, Arkansas and Fannie Tipton of Dupo, Illinois; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Norman and Jeannette Schneider of Bedford, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Ebert E. Schneider, Sr., in 1980, her parents, two sisters, three brothers, and son-in-law, John D. Slinkard. Mr. Agin was born March 29, 1924, son of the late Edgar H. and Alma Sweem Agin. He and Faye L. Johnson were married April 7, 1944, at Independence, Missouri. Loving survivors include his wife; son, Richard V. Agin of Belton, Missouri; daughter, Jean McClellan of Jackson; brother, David M. Agin of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
He worked many years as a steel salesman, retiring in 1980, from Richards and Conover Steel Supply Co., in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1999, the Agins moved from Blue Springs to Jackson. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.

Jackson: Paul J. Bishop, age 77, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. Mr. Bishop donated his body for study to Washington University Medical School in St Louis, MO. A memorial service may be held at a later date. Arrangements by McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Mr. Bishop was born November 2, 1924, in Cape Girardeau, son of Lester A. and Lucinda Smith Bishop. He and Betty L. Schwach were joined in marriage on August 26, 1949 in Portageville, MO. Mr. Bishop was baptized and previously active at the Westside Church of God in Cape Girardeau, where he taught Sunday School and was the contractor of their educational building. He was a 1943 class graduate of Cape Central High School, where he was a proud member of an undefeated football team. Bishop attended Southeast Missouri State University and played college football. He was a charter member of the Jackson Jaycees. As a 55 year member of Excelsior Masonic Lodge #441 AF & AM in Jackson, he was a member of the Scottish Rite. In 2001, he became a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge. He worked for Bank Building and Equipment of Springfield, IL as an assistant supervisor, and was heavily involved in the renovation of the former Cape County Savings Bank in Jackson. He owned and operated the Terrace Drive-In Restaurant in Jackson from 1953 til 1956 and Bishop Contracting in Jackson from 1956 through 1963. He retired in 1985 after 22 years of employment as a window clerk in the United States Postal Service in Jackson. Bishop served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 til 1946. Bishop was a member of the American Legion Post #158 in Jackson and VFW Post #3838 in Cape Girardeau for 37 years. He will always be remembered as an avid outdoor sportsman. Survivors include his wife, Betty L. Bishop of Jackson; daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Kevin Lukefahr of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Mrs. Truman “Eula” Cook of Sun City, AZ; granddaughter, Ashley L. Lukefahr and grandson, Joshua P. Lukefahr. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 1 sister. Paul J. Bishop donated his body for study to Washington University Medical School in St Louis, MO. Loving survivors include her husband of Cape Girardeau; son M.J. “Jay” Travis, III, and his wife, Karen Ann of Ballwin, Missouri; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and David Thiele of Cape; her mother, Lillian King of Friendswood, TX; a brother, Richard D. King and his wife Judy of Friendswood, TX; two Grandsons, M.J. “Michael” Travis, IV, and Jesse Thiele; and granddaughter, Rachael Marie Travis. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Joseph Travis, her father, Richard J. King, and a grandson, David Travis Thiele. Mrs. Travis graduated from Draughn Business College in Memphis, Tennessee, and worked many years as a legal secretary. She formerly taught piano, keyboard, and organ in her home. She attended Lynwood Baptist Church and volunteered many years for the Cape County Baptist Association in their Bible School Clinics. Mrs. Preisig was born September 9, 1909, at Chicago, Illinois, daughter of Michael and Katharina Schneider Gaertner. She and Mathias Preisig were married in 1933. He passed away in 1945. She was also preceded by her parents, one brother, and one sister.
Loving survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Elisabeth “Betty” and Adam Kassal of Jackson; three grandchildren, Rita Trankler and her husband, James of Jackson, Robert Kassal of Chicago, and Ronald Kassal and his wife, Stephanie of Beloit, Wisconsin; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Preisig lived many years in Chicago with her daughter, son-in-law, and three grandchildren, where she enjoyed homemaking. She had lived at the Jackson Manor Nursing Home for the past 18 months.

Jackson: Irene G. Hartle, age 83, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2002, at her home in Jackson. As Mrs. Hartle desired to aid medical science through her body donation, Rev. Rocky Tallent will officiate a service in her memory on Saturday, January 19th, at 3 PM, at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. The family will receive friends between 1-3 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Mrs. Hartle was born June 26, 1918, at Oak Ridge, daughter of the late David A. and Josephine Godwin Hahs. She and George E. Hartle were married April 25, 1934 at Jackson. Loving survivors include her husband, George of Jackson; four sons and three daughters-in-law, John and Beverly Hartle of Richland, North Carolina, Joe and Margie Hartle of Sebring, Florida, Roy and Selena Hartle of Scott City, and Wade Hartle of Jackson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Willie Abernathy of Perryville, and Joy and Bill Friedrich of Jackson; two brothers, Hubert Hahs of House Springs, Missouri and Wilson Hahs of San Bernardino, California. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Denita Hartle of Jackson, Robin Reed of Blue Springs, Sheri Courtney, and husband, Bernard, of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Dean Hartle of Jackson, Dana Taveniere and husband, David, of Sebring, Florida, Jeremy Hartle of Sebring, Florida; Roy Hartle, Jr., and Greg Hartle of Scott City, Connie Starr and husband, Rob of Incline Village, Nevada, Chris and Kristy Friedrich of Jackson, and Shea Friedrich of St. Louis; and 15 great-grandchildren. Two grandchildren, Susan Ann Abernathy and John David Hartle, II; six brothers and one sister preceded her in death. From 1964 – 2000, Mr. and Mrs. Hartle lived in Cape Girardeau and lived in Jackson for the past two years. In 1964, she became a member of First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. From 1972 – 1999, she served as the staff nursery director. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Southeast Hospice.

Marie M. Delph

Jackson: Mrs. Marie Margarite Delph, age 81, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2002, at the Jackson Manor Nursing Home in Jackson. Friends may call Friday, January 18th, between 4-8 PM, at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Funeral Service will be Saturday, January 19th, at 2 PM, at the funeral home, followed by interment in Russell Heights Cemetery. Dr. Brian Anderson will officiate. Mrs. Delph was born May 7, 1920, at Rush Tower, Missouri, daughter of the late John and Mary Devoto Petrein. She and C.B. Browning Delph were married November 7, 1940, at Hillsboro, Missouri. Loving survivors include her husband; a daughter, Mary Folk of Mehlville, Missouri; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son and one daughter.
The Delphs farmed near Oak Ridge, moving to Jackson in 1951. Mrs. Delph was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson, where she formerly taught Sunday School. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to American Heart Association.

Dorothy M. Brown

Jackson: Dorothy M. Brown, age 76, passed away Friday, January 11, 2002, at her home in Jackson. Friends may call Monday, January 14th, between 4-7 PM, at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Funeral service will be Tuesday, January 15th, at 10:30 AM, at the funeral home, followed by interment in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape. Pastor Joe Heflin will officiate. Mrs. Brown was born April 21, 1925, at Galesburg, Illinois, daughter of the late William and Clara Smith Fuller. She and Kenneth O. Brown were married February 1, 1945. He passed away July 16, 1995. One son also preceded her in death. Loving survivors are two daughters, Virginia Brown of Jackson, and Ellen Brown of Tucson, Arizona; a sister, Virginia F. Glaven of Springfield, Illinois; and six grandchildren. Mrs. Brown was a homemaker. She attended the House of Prayer Tabernacle in Cape Girardeau.

Harlan A. Ruppel

Oak Ridge: Harlan A. Ruppel, age 81, passed away Thursday, January 03, 2002, at his home near Oak Ridge. Friends may call Friday, January 4th, between 4–8 PM, and after 8:30 AM, Saturday, at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Funeral Service will be Saturday, January 5, 2002, at 1:00 PM, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim. Friends may call at the church after 12 PM on Saturday. Interment will be in Lixville Cemetery. Rev. David Burge will officiate. Mr. Ruppel was born February 25, 1920 at Oak Ridge, the son of Walter and Annie Sauer Ruppel. He married Wilma Bangert on April 25, 1943, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim. She survives. Other loving survivors are two sons, Ronald Ruppel and Clinton Ruppel, both of Oak Ridge; one daughter, Susan Ervin of Tiptonville, TN; one sister Viola Anderson of Chicago, IL; two brothers, Percy Ruppel of Dorsey, IL and Lester Ruppel of Jackson; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, a grandson and one sister. Mr. Ruppel has lived and worked on the family farm near Oak Ridge all his life. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Friedheim, where he had served as a past elder, trustee, and school board member. He was a member of the Perry County Country Club in Perryville.

Robert "Bob" Wright

Jackson: Robert “Bob” Wright, age 82, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2001, at the Jackson Manor Nursing Home in Jackson. Friends may call Tuesday, January 1st, between 4-8 PM, at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. An American Legion Service will be held at 7 PM. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, January 2nd, at 11 AM, at the funeral home, followed by interment in Russell Heights Cemetery. Rev. Robert Henrichs will officiate. Mr. Wright was born June 19, 1919, at Tanner, Missouri, son of the late Guy and Nellie Morton Wright. He and Clara Jaco were married August 10, 1946. Loving survivors include his wife, Clara, of Jackson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daryl and Teresa Wright and Robert “Butch” and Pam Wright, all of Jackson; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Kenny Ludwig of Doylestown, Pennsylvania; and sister, Anna Edwards of Sullivan, Indiana. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Scott Wright and his wife, Candyce; Dusty Wright; Dana, Kaci, and Brannon Wright; and Christi, Missy and Mandy Ludwig; and one great-granddaughter, Alexis Wright. Mr. Wright began his career at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis and then worked at the former International Shoe Factory in Jackson. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force from February 23, 1943 through March 1, 1946. After his discharge, he worked at the former Young Motor Company in Jackson and then owned and operated the former Wright Sinclair Station in Jackson. He worked 25 years as a mechanic for the former Townes Cadillac and Olds Dealership in Cape. In 1981, he retired from the Pipe Fitters Union in Texas. From 1981 through 1989, he drove for the American Red Cross in Southern Illinois and Southeast Missouri; and later assisted his sons in the Advanced Technology Products and Radio Shack in Jackson. Mr. Wright was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson and the VFW in Jackson. In the 1950’s he started the Westernaires Band and continued leading the band through the 1980’s. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Red Cross.
