Mabel Rutherford, 88, of Salisbury, MO formerly of Decatur, IL, died September 25, 2001 at Moberly Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Rutherford was born December 16, 1912 in Salisbury, Missouri, daughter of Louis and Wilhelminia (Klaus) Scheiderer. She received her bachelor's degree from Northeast Missouri State Teachers' College in 1939 and her master's degree from Teachers' College at Columbia University in 1945. She taught school for 38 years in Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois. She started the first Cooperative Office Occupations class under state supervision at Decatur High School in Decatur, IL in February 1945. She retired from the Decatur School District.
She had been president of the Decatur branch of American Association of University Women and corresponding secretary of Illinois State Division of AAUW. She served as president of Illinois Business Education Association. She was a member of Delta Pi Epsilon, Pi Omega Pi, Delta Kappa Gamma, Decatur, IL, Retired Teachers Association and the Chariton County Retired Teachers Association, a former member of Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church and its Women's Association, and member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and LWML in Salisbury. She had resided in Salisbury since 1997. She was married to James C. Rutherford in 1957 in Salisbury and he preceded her in death in 1994.
Mabel is survived by one stepson Robert Rutherford and wife Dorothy of Rochester, IL; two step daughters Lorena Bane of LeRoy, IL and Erma Sutton of Mt. Zion, IL; brothers Gustuv and Henry Scheiderer both of Salisbury, MO; five step-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren, four nephews and four nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Oscar Scheiderer, sister Lydia Linneman and nephew Edward Lee Scheiderer.
Visitation is 6 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2001 at Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Memorial services are 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 29th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Salisbury. Helen Ann Morrison, 53, of New Madrid and formerly of Salisbury, died Saturday, September 22, 2001 at her home in New Madrid, MO.
Mrs. Morrison was born Feb. 6, 1948 in Chariton County to the late Ralph and Genevieve Coy Schnetzler. She served the city of New Madrid as a police officer. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Salisbury.
On May 15, 1981, she married Walter Phillip Morrison, in Miami, OK who survives of New Madrid, MO.
Other survivors include: one son, Brent Alan Wilkey of Salisbury and one daughter Shelia Kaye Guilford of Salisbury, MO; three grandchildren, Ross Alan Wilkey, Richard Shane Morrison, and Caleb Arthur Morrison all of Salisbury, MO.

Albert J. Hanke, 87, of Salisbury died September 19, 2001 at his sisters home in Florissant, MO. Albert was born June 9, 1914 in Salisbury, MO the son of Joseph Franklin and Bertha (Emmerich) Hanke.
Albert was a lifelong area resident and farmer. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Albert is survived by two brothers: Charles Hanke and Vincent Hanke both of Salisbury; four sisters, Christine Olendorff of Glasgow, Matilda Laurent of Florrisant, MO, Veronica Malisos of Festus, MO, and Gertrude Wernert of Florissant, MO, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother John Hanke.

Leslie H. Troxel, 64, of Keytesville died September 13, 2001 at Bothwell Hospital in Sedalia. Leslie was born January 7, 1937 in Jameson, MO the son of Moss Hugh and Olive Marie (Pearson) Troxel. He married Patsy Rodgers on September 13, 1958 in Old Milton, MO and she survives of the home.
Leslie had lived in Keytesville since 1950. He had been in the trucking business and had worked for Wright's Oil and Propane in the past 10 years. He was a member of the Keytesville Baptist Church.
Leslie is survived by his wife Patsy, his mother Olive of Keytesville, two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Susan Troxel of Holt Summit, MO and Robert and Zita Troxel of Keytesville, MO, two grandsons and seven step-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Berniece Bell (Hulett) Epperly, 85, died September 10, 2001 at Chariton Park Health Care Center. Berniece was born November 1, 1915 in Kaseyville Community of Southeast Macon County, Missouri. Her parents were Matt and Ester (Leathers) Hulett.
She attended grade school at Teter county school and high school at Mt. Caramel, Salisbury, and graduated from Thomas Hill High School in 1935.
She was a member of Salisbury Baptist Church and previously the Prairie Hill Baptist Church.
Bernice and Richard Lee Epperly were married on December 31, 1938 and became parents of Richard Lee, Jr., Stephen, and Carolyn.
They lived in the Hubbard and Salisbury areas, Moberly, and in Forest Hill, Louisiana, returning to Salisbury in 1995.
She was preceded in death by their son Richard Lee, Jr. in 1939, her husband in 1999, her parents and a brother Otis Forrest Hulett.
Survivors include Stephen and Kathy Epperly, four granddaughters and a great-grandson (Dakota Dominic); her sister Hope Roy and her family of Tulsa, OK and her brother Fred Hulett and family of Salisbury and Macon.
Visitation is 10 - 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2001 at Summerville Funeral Home, Inc of Salisbury. Services follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. No graveside services, burial in Thomas Hill Cemetery.

Leeleath H. Elson, 65, of Keytesville, MO died September 7, 2001 at her home. Leeleath was born November 7, 1935 in Salisbury, MO the daughter of Emil and Mary (Jeys) Sanders. She married Glen Elson on August 26, 1955 in Salisbury and he survives of the home.
Leeleath was a lifelong Salisbury and Keytesville resident. She was a seamstress for Biltwell and for BHA in Salisbury. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Leeleath is survived by her husband Glen of the home, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Doug Elson of Salisbury and Daryl and Jay Elson of Salisbury; two daughters and son-in-laws, Dora and Terry Palmer of Keytesville, and Denise and Keith Walser of Salisbury; a sister and brother-in-law Judy and Keith Richardson of Keytesville; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a niece and and two great nieces.

Muriel ONeal Robinson, 74, of Springfield, IL, formerly of Dalton, MO died September 3, 2001 at Moberly Regional Medical Center. Muriel was born March 24, 1927 in Dalton, MO the daughter of William and Anna B. (Morgan) Fristoe. She married William Robinson and he preceded her in death.
Muriel had lived in Springfield, IL for the past 50 years. She was the director of the Nutrition Center in Springfield.
Muriel is survived by her mother Anna Fristoe of Keytesville; a brother Harold T Fristoe of Springfield, IL; two sisters, Gladys Mann of Keytesville, MO and Willena Williams of Columbia, MO; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and husband.

Rosetta May Boeger Foster, 72, of Salisbury died Monday, September 3, 2001 at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri, she was born July 24, 1929 in Dearborn, Missouri the daughter of Robert Samuel and Lucille Davis. Mrs. Foster had resided in Salisbury since 1947.
Rosetta married Howard Boeger on February 22, 1947 and he preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 1977. On August 6, 2000 she married Tom Foster and he resides of the home.
Mrs. Foster was a homemaker and a member of the Salisbury United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father and first husband. Survivors include her mother, Mrs. R.H. (Ruby) Hardesty of Lee's Summit, MO; husband, Tom of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Bob and Robin Boeger of Salisbury; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Richard McAdams of Salisbury; two sisters, Martha Cannon of Platte City, MO and Mary Catherine St. John of Joplin, MO; six grandchildren, Josh Boeger, Jeff Boeger, Troy McAdams, Holly Keiser, Kyna McAdams and Anna Stewart, and two great-grandsons, Zachary and Zane McAdams; and one sister-in-law, Crystal George of Salisbury, MO.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 5 at 11:00 a.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury with internment in the Eastlawn Memory Garden Cemetery in Salisbury. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 4 at the Funeral Home from 5 - 8:00 p.m.

Keith Elliott Young, 74, of rural Salisbury died October 23, 2001 at his home. Keith was born April 15, 1927 in Keytesville, MO the son of Charles and Athleen (Teller) Young. He married Joyce Moore on June 15, 1948 in Moberly, MO and she survives of the home.
Keith was a lifelong Chariton County resident and farmer. He was an insurance adjuster for crop insurance for 10 years. Keith was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church.
Keith is survived by his wife Joyce of the home, a son Gary Young of Salisbury, MO, a daughter Dianna Spears and husband Richard of Frankford, Germany, stepdaughter Donna Thiele of Sherman, TX a brother and sister-in-law Maurice and Cheryl Young of Keytesville, MO, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three nephews, Greg, Jeff & Doug Young and a niece Kimberly Parker. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Charles Winston Young.

Mildred L. Fray, 86, of Raytown, formerly of Salisbury, MO died October 23, 2001 at Hidden Lakes Nursing Home in Raytown. Mildred was born February 11, 1915 in Howe, Indiana the daughter of Charles Eucibous and Lillian Florence (Baker) Crawford. She married Edwin Earl Fray on November 2, 1935 in Sedalia, MO and he preceded her in death on July 18, 1996.
Mildred was raised in Sedalia. She retired as a cashier from IGA-Foodliner in Salisbury. She was a member of the Salisbury Christian Church.
Mildred is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; Charles and Karen Fray of Witchita, KS and Dr. David and Donna Fray of Lee's Summit, MO, and a daughter and son-in-law Tana Sue and Kenneth Johnson of Kansas City, MO, five grandchildren Jesse Fray of Witchita, Kari Springs, Kadi Kelley, Kristin Fray and Collyn Fray all of Kansas City, MO a great-granddaughter, Cadilynn Kelley of Kansas City, MO and one niece. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister Nadine Doughterty.

Harvey E. Grotjan, 78, of Keytesville, Missouri passed away on Friday, October 19, 2001 at Brunswick Nursing Home. He was a lifelong resident of the Keytesville area.
He was born on August 11, 1923 to Edward M. and Marie Heishman Grotjan on the "King Hill" farm near Brunswick, Missouri. He grew up during the "Great Depression" in a rural area and attended rural schools in his early years. Later he attended the Brunswick Elementary School and graduated from Brunswick High School on May 21, 1941. He attended the University of Missouri, majoring in Agriculture and becoming a member of the Alpha Gamma Sigma fraternity.
He was drafted into the US Navy December 14, 1944 and went through boot camp at the Naval Training Station in Great Lakes, Illinois. He was assigned to Shoemaker, California and later on October 14, 1945 he reported to duty on the USS Jicarilla in the South Pacific until his discharge in 1946.
On May 19, 1945, Harvey married Juanita Clanton in the Chapel at the Great Lakes Naval Station.
Harvey returned to Chariton County Missouri after being discharged from the Navy and has worked in farming and agriculture ever since. During his farming career he received the County Balanced Farming Award in 1958 and again in 1973. In 1964 the Grotjan family was named Chariton County Farm Family of the Year, and Harvey's name appears on the University of Missouri Leaders Honor Roll. He was honored for growing certified seeds in conjunction with the University of Missouri for forty years and received the Premier Seed Growers Award from the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce in 1994.
Grotjan devoted most of his time to civic and agriculture organizations. He was a member of the Keytesville School Board for six years, the Region Two School Board for two years and State of Missouri School Board for three years. He served as Chariton County President of Farm Bureau for seventeen years and as a member of several state committees for the Missouri Farm Bureau. In 1977, Grotjan was recognized for being a fifty-year member of Missouri and Chariton County Farm Bureau. He served on the board of the Keytesville United Methodist Church where he had been a member of fifty-five years. He served on the Chariton County Extension Council, FFA Advisory Council, MFA Oil Board, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Lions Club, and American Legion Post Number 0007, and a charter member of the National Association of Fleet Tug Sailors. In 1998 the Keytesville Chamber of Commerce named Harvey Grotjan as the "Man of the Year."
Governor Bond appointed Grotjan to the Missouri Agriculture and Small Business Development Authority where he served a four-year term. Later, he was appointed by Governor Ashcroft to the Missouri Soil and Water Commission for a six-year term.
Grotjan is survived by his wife, Juanita, of the home and five children. Harvey E. Grotjan, Jr. and his wife, Laura, of Lake St. Louis, MO; Marsha Burton and her husband Doug of Leawood, Kansas; Barbara Thurmon and her husband Greg, of Chillicothe, MO; Lisa Albera and her husband, Peter, of Lee's Summit, MO; and Lana Richards and her husband, Bill, of Keytesville, MO. The thirteen surviving grandchildren are Scott, Allison and Anne Grotjan, Greg Burton and Natalie Burton Kohrs, Cory and Emily Easley, Anthony and Dominic Albera, Tara, Rachael, Alexandra, and Brock Richards; two step-grandchildren, John and Alec Thurmon, and one great-grandchild, Molly Grotjan. Grojtan is also survived by two sisters, Marjorie Head and Margaret Smith, nieces, Ila Smith and Karen Redding Smith and nephews Kyle Smith and Mark Reddig.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, October 21, 2001 at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury, Missouri. Funeral Services will be Monday, October 22 at the Keytesville United Methodist Church with interment at the Keytesville Cemetery immediately following the services. Military Graveside Services provided by: Rucker-McAllister Post #7 of Brunswick, Missouri. Dorothy Schneider, 86, of Salisbury died October 11, 2001 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Dorothy was born October 22, 1914 in Washington, MO the daughter of Joseph M. and Clara A. (Arand) Parmentier. She married Arthur Charles Schneider on June 25, 1941 in St. Louis, MO and he preceded her in death on April 4, 1986.
Dorothy had lived in the Salisbury area since 1960 moving from St. Louis, MO. Since July, Dorothy had been visiting her son in Dayton, Ohio. Dorothy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salisbury.
Dorothy is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; Arthur J. and Kay Schneider of Columbia and Charles A and Mary Schneider of Dayton, Ohio; three sisters, Leonilda Hayden, Virginia Hawkins and Teresa Carter all of St. Louis, MO; two brothers-in-law Tobe Carter and Edward Schneider, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers Joseph Parmentier, and Walter Parmentier at infancy, and sister Clara Massey.

Mary Hazel Haffcke, passed away at Moberly Regional Medical Center October 8, 2001. She was the daughter of Thomas Pettis and Mary Della (Evans) Tillotson, and was born January 1, 1906 in rural Salisbury.
She married George Haffcke on December 8, 1926 in Salisbury and to this union were born Bettie Mae, George Thomas and Virginia Ann.
She was a homemaker and a former member of the C & R Liners Club.
She is survived by her children Bettie Mae Smith, George Thomas Haffcke and Virginia Haffcke all of Salisbury. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George on Oct. 2, 1989, sister Virginia Tillotson, and brother Joe Williams Tilltotson, and son-in-law Marvin Musty Smith.

Briscoe Fullington, 92, of Salisbury, died October 5, 2001 at Chariton Park Health Care Center in Salisbury. Briscoe was born November 25, 1908 in rural Clifton Hill the son of Roy Franklin and Golden (Bowen) Fullington. Briscoe married Alta Jordan on Dec. 25, 1936 and she preceded him in death on Dec. 23, 1964. He married Elizabeth Lamont in 1972 and she preceded him in death on Dec. 3, 1980.
Briscoe was a welder for Standard Haven in Glasgow. He was a member of the Salisbury Baptist Church and Moberly Moose Lodge.
Briscoe is survived by a brother and sister-in-law; A.F. and Juanita Fullington of Columbia, MO, two nephews Roy Fullington and Johnny Fullington; four grandchildren, Clifford William, Cheryl Saulters, Leslie Welty and Donna Hecke; nine great-grandchildren and three great, great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, a son Edward Fullington, and sister Delma McCullum.

Oletha Watkins, 72, of Salisbury, formerly of Keytesville died October 6, 2001 at Chariton Park Health Care Center in Salisbury. Oletha was born February 22, 1929 in Wakenda, Mo the daughter of Elmer and Mildred (Jennings) Wright.
Oletha was a housewife, and had worked as the City Clerk in Keytesville, and had worked at the White Rogers factory in Brunswick. She was a member of the Keytesville Christian Church and former member of the Eastern Star in Blackburn, MO.
Oletha is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law Roger and Linda Sullivan of Keytesville, Mo and Steven Sullivan of Marshall, MO, three brothers Jack Wright, Loren Eston Wright, and Michael Ray Wright all of Bosworth, MO, sister Verna Lee Wilhelm of Mt. Vernon, MO, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Oletha was preceded in death by her husbands F.E. Grimsley and Cecil Watkins.

Morris was born August 29, 1914 in Ireton, IA the son of Clyde and Ida Ola (Jones) Wills. He married Dorena Schmitt on March 1, 1949 in Omaha, Nebraska and she survives of the home.
Morris was a farmer and also worked in a gas conversion business. He was a member of the Keytesville United Methodist Church, and a 50 year member of the Ireton American Legion. Morris served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp. during WW II.
Morris is survived by his wife Dorena, three daughters and sons-in-law; Linda Jo and Dr. Mark Pressley in Columbia, MO, Leota Rae and Michael Maag of Columbia, MO, and Caren and Roger Sonichsen of Hawarden, IA, one sister Bernice France of Ireton, IA, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Hollis and Cecil Wills and sisters Lavon Toenjes and Beulah Ping.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 6, 2001 from 10-11:00 a.m. at the Keytesville United Methodist Church with services following at 11:00 at the church. Burial with military rites at Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Salisbury. Memorial contributions may be made to the Keytesville United Methodist Church.

Rae B. Sellers, 80, of Keytesville, Missouri formerly of Roanoke, Missouri Died Tuesday, October 2, 2001 at the University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia, Missouri. He was born December 31, 1920 to H.B. and Sara "Ella" (Viers) Sellers in Elliott, Iowa. Rae married Gloria Harger of Rock Port, Missouri on September 8, 1942 in Rock Port, MO.
Mr. Sellers served his country in the US Army as a tank commander, serving in the South Pacific Theater during WW II. He was awarded several honors including the "Bronze Star."
Following the war he farmed in the Roanoke Community until he retired and moved to Keytesville.
He was a member of the Armstrong United Methodist Church where he served on the board for many years, the Armstrong Lions Club, he served on the Salisbury school board for 17 years and he also served on the Fayette Co-op board.
Rae was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Boyd, Homer, Earl, Kenneth and Jim Sellers and one sister, Zelma Straight. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Gloria of the home, three daughters and sons-in-law; Dona and Leon Vohs of Collins, MO; Pam and Ron Richmond of Columbia, MO; Teri and Robert Phillips of Higbee, MO; one son and daughter-in-law; Gary and Debra Sellers of Keytesville; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren with one due in November; two sisters, Bonnie Perley of Newton, KS and Geneive Jansen of South Carolina and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 5, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at the Armstrong United Methodist Church under the direction of Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Burial with military rights will be in Eastlawn Memory Garden Cemetery in Salisbury. Visitation will be from 12:30 until service time Friday at the church. Memorials can be left in his memory to the Armstrong United Methodist Church.

Nellie A. Weger, 89, of Keytesville died September 30, 2001 at Moberly Regional Medical Center in Moberly. Nellie was born June 25, 1912 in Clifton Hill, MO the daughter of David Albert and Lula Ethel (Minor) Alexander. She married Dr. Carl Weger on August 24, 1957 in Columbia, MO and he preceded her in death on January 3, 1963.
Nellie was a graduate of Amboy, IL high school, she received her bachelors degree from North East Missouri, and masters from Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. Nellie taught school for many years in Edwardsville, IL, Glasgow, Keytesville and Salisbury. She has lived in Keytesville since 1957. Nellie is a member of United Methodist Church in Keytesville. She belonged to the Almeria Miller Club in Keytesville, Republican Women's Club, was president of the Business and Professional Women's Club in Edwardsville, IL active in the Illinois Council of Math Teachers, serving on the governing board. She received first place in the Missouri State Fair talent contest in 1996, playing the Alexander's Ragtime Band and the Missouri Waltz on the piano.
Nellie is survived by a step-daughter Irene and her husband Harry of Leawood, Kansas, sister Lillie Pearl Helm of Macomb, Illinois, 6 step-grandchildren and 18 step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Albert and Robert Alexander and sister Emma Jo McFarland.
Visitation is 1-2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 3, 2001 at the United Methodist Church in Keytesville. Services are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the church. Burial in Keytesville City Cemetery. Gweneth Heckler, 76, of Dalton, MO died November 29, 2001 at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall, MO. Gweneth was born August 9, 1925 in Dalton, MO the daughter of William Roy and Lillian Alice (Rinehart) Hechler.
Gweneth was a lifelong Dalton area resident. She was a homemaker and a member of the Dalton Community Center and Extension Club.
Gweneth is survived by cousins and friends.
Graveside services are Saturday, December 1, 2001 at the Dalton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dalton Cemetery Association. Services under the direction of Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury.
Crystal George, 87, of Salisbury, died Friday, November 23, 2001 at the North Park Village Care Center in Moberly. Crystal was born September 21, 1914 in Salisbury the daughter of Rudolph and Elsie (Stoeppelman) Boeger. Mrs. George was a lifelong Salisbury resident.
Crystal married Melvin J. George on January 25, 1948 in Salisbury and he preceded her in death on August 21, 1971.
Crystal was a housewife, a member of the United Methodist Church in Salisbury, Order of the Easter Star (Warren Star Chapter), she volunteered for the American Cancer Society for over 50 years serving as president of the Chariton County Unit for 11 years, she served on the Farm Bureau Board for many years, and was on the board of trustee's for 6 years of the Chariton County Health Department where she helped organize the department in 1986.
Mrs. George is survived by her son and daughter-in-law; Roger and Lana George of Salisbury, three grandchildren Jason Young and his wife Tia, Jennifer Young and Gabriel George, two great-grandchildren, Cole and Cheyenne Young and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Howard Boeger.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury with interment in Eastlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Salisbury. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 til 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church or American Cancer Society.
