Beverly June Peterson, 58, of Grain Valley, Mo., passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2000, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan, following an extended illness.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, at Wilson Brim Daniel Chapel, Walnut Grove, Mo., with interment following in Rose Hill Cemetery, near Willard, Mo.
The family receives friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 24, at the chapel.
She was born at Strafford, Mo., and was a resident of the Kansas City area since 1951.
She was a homemaker and attended the Baptist Church.
She and Richard A. Peterson were united in marriage on June 19, 1987.
Together they were privileged to share more than 13 years.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lee Highfill, on April 20, 1987.
She is survived by her husband, Richard A. Peterson; two daughters, Wendy Gillette and Cindy Kerley, both of Grain Valley, Mo.; two grandchildren, Mikayla Ryan and Regan Rogers; her mother, Pauline Highfill, Adrian, Mo.; a brother, Jerry Highfill, Adrian; two sisters, Karen Boulder, Lee’s Summit, and Pamela Jenkins, Archie, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
HENRY “HANK” GERITZ, JR.
Henry “Hank” Geritz, Jr., 73, of Lee’s Summit passed away, Monday, April 24, 2000, at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Friday, April 28, at D.W. Newcomer’s Longview Funeral Home, 12700 S. Raytown Road, with burial in Floral Hills East Memorial Gardens.
Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 27, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are J.W. Page, Burt Walker, Russ Webber, Russ Childress, Dennis Early and Dr. Geroge Sroor.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hank Geritz Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o The Bank of Lee’s Summit.
Hank was born Sept. 9, 1926, in Atchison, Kan., and was a life-long resident of the Kansas City area.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Hank played semi-pro baseball for several area teams including the Holden Chiefs.
He attended Rockhurst College in Kansas City, and graduated from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg in 1954, with a bachelor of science in education.
He earned his master’s degree in 1956.
Hank was a teacher and coach for 32 years.
He taught at Malta Bend, Fort Osage and Lee’s Summit schools.
He was a member of the National Education Association, retired; Kansas City Oldtimers Baseball Club and the Lee’s Summit Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Norma Thomas; and a nephew, Todd Willis.
Hank is survived by his wife of 50 years, Anita Geritz, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Curt Brown, Lee’s Summit; a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Deborah Geritz, Jefferson City, Mo., seven grandchildren, Matt, Andy, Kevin and Halley Brown, Brandon Chad and Drew Geritz; and many nieces and nephews.

Daniel A. Gibson, 76, of Lee’s Summit died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Wilshire at Lakewood, Lee’s Summit.
Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2000, at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit, with burial in Lee’s Summit Cemetery, Lee’s Summit.
Friends may call from noon to service time at the funeral home.

JOHN CLEMENS HERRMAN
John Clemens Herrman, 90, of Kingsville, Mo., died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Lee’s Summit Hospital.
Funeral services were 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 28, at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church, Lee’s Summit.
Visitation was from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 27, with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lee’s Summit Hospital Foundation, Intensive Care Unit.
John was born Aug. 28, 1909, in Hurlinger, Germany.
He immigrated to the United States at the age of 6.
The family settled in Atchison, Kan.
John attended school in Atchison.
During his 20s, John was active in amateur boxing and was nicknamed “The Kansas Kid.”
He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Aug. 29, 1942, and served in World War II.
He was discharged on Oct. 7, 1945.
He was employed by Missouri Pacific Truck Lines for 43 years.
John and Anna Mae were proprietors of The Cat’s Kitten Restaurant and Anna Mae’s Beauty Salon in Kansas City.
Various farming activities were included in his life’s work.
John was a loving and devoted husband and father.
He was also a devoted Catholic.
John and Anna Mae were married for 58 years, and members of the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Karl and Freda Herrman; and brothers and sisters, Sister Mary Callista, Walter Herrman, Mary Miller, Charlie Herrman and Tom Curtis.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Mae Herrman, of the home; nine children, Patty Bruns, St. Charles, Mo., Annette Gray, Lee’s Summit, Pat Herrman, Lee’s Summit, Christina Freeman, Lone Jack, Joe Herrman, Lee’s Summit, Bill Herrman, Lee’s Summit, Steve Herrman, Oak Grove, Mo., Debbie Wells, St. Joseph, Mo., and Doug Herrman, Lee’s Summit; a sister, Peggy Maffei, Marco Island, Fla.; 24 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

AVIS BETHENE (SPIELMAN) KESTER
Avis Bethene (Spielman) Kester, 82, of Lee’s Summit passed away this week at her home in John Knox Village.
A memorial service is 10 a.m. Saturday, April 29, at John Knox Village Chapel.
She donated her body to the University of Kansas School of Medicine for research.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Leighton, of the home; her children, Bethene Shaw, Wichita, Kan., William Kester, Painesville, Ohio, James Kester, Amsterdam, Holland, and Jill Hallenberg, Lee’s Summit; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Donald Vincent Loegering, 68, of Lee’s Summit, formerly of Jackson, Mich. and Fargo, ND, went to live with our Lord on Wednesday, April 26, 2000.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday, April 29, at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church, Lee’s Summit, with burial in Lee’s Summit Cemetery.
Visitation is 9:15 a.m. to service time Saturday at the church.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, teacher and friend to everybody.
Don was born Sept. 9, 1931, in Breckenridge, Minn., the eldest son of Herman and Mary (May) Loegering, who have both preceded him in death.

Steven W. “Big Steve” Long, 45, of Greenwood died Monday, April 24, 2000, at Lee’s Summit Hospital.

ALVIN LEE MENGLE
Alvin Lee Mengle, 84, of Lee’s Summit passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at Park Place Care Center.
His body was given to science at his direction.
Private family memorial is pending.

Alvin was born Aug. 30, 1915.
He graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in 1933.
He was a member of the RLDS Church, a Navy veteran of World War II, and retired from the Kansas Department of Transportation.
He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Bessie and Albert Shutt, Bella Vista, Ark.; two sisters-in-law, Lamoyne Mengle, Raytown, Mo., and Ella Mengle, Lee’s Summit; 12 nieces and nephews and their extended families.
His sly wit and gallant demeanor will be missed by all.
PAUL F. RITTERSBACHER
Paul F. Rittersbacher, 48, of Blue Springs died Monday, April 24, 2000, in Independence.
Memorial services were 11 a.m. Thursday, April 27, at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Blue Springs Chapel with Dr. Richard Adams officiating.
Friends called from 10 a.m. to service time on Thursday at the chapel, cremation.
Paul was born Aug. 1, 1951, in Kansas City, Mo., to Frank and Ethelyn (Gallie) Rittersbacher.
He graduated from Lee’s Summit High School and Longview College with an applied sciences degree.
He was a mechanic and owner of R & R Automotive.
He was a member of Lake Lotawana Community United Methodist Church, and was a U.S. Navy veteran and lifetime member of the D.A.V.
He is survived by his parents, Frank and Ethelyn Rittersbacher, Blue Springs; his brother and sister-in-law, Lou and Mary Rittersbacher, Liberty; niece, Sara; and nephew, Andrew.
