Carl Vance Long, 60, of Lee’s Summit died Saturday, April 29, 2000, at Research Medical Center.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit.
Graveside services at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Cameron Memory Gardens Cemetery, Cameron, Mo.
Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 1, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
Carl was born Nov. 3, 1939, in Cameron.
He graduated Cameron High School in 1958.
He earned a business degree from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan.
He was the owner of several Deck the Walls stores in the Kansas City area.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cleo Long.
He is survived by his companion, Jon Giles; his daughter, Cathie Long; a grandson, Tyler; his mother, Mildred Long; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosalie and Max Jackson, and Judy and Jay Smith; a brother and and sister-in-law, Jerry and Beverly Long; numerous nieces, nephews; and friends.
He was loved deeply and will be greatly missed.
JIMMIE RAY “JIM” SHINDLER
Jimmie Ray “Jim” Shindler, 63, loving husband and dad of Lee’s Summit went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 28, 2000, at his home surrounded by loving family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, at the First Presbyterian Church, Lee’s Summit, with burial in Longview Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, Mo.
Rev. Ron Galvin is officiating.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 1, at the church.
The family suggests contributions in his name to the building fund at the church, or Kansas City Hospice.
Jim was born in Almartha, Mo., on Jan 19, 1937.
He served in the Army from 1960 to 1966.
He was a plumber for more than 30 years.
He retired from Humana Health Care after 15 years of service.
Jim was a charter member of the Lunker’s Bass Club.
Jim had a great love of fishing and hunting.
Jim was always there to help family and friends.
He was the “first” to be there in any time of need.
He enjoyed camping and traveling with his family.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lee’s Summit.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nadine; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and David Swift, Belton, Mo.; his mother and father, Eska and Orbrey Shindler, Olathe, Kan.; his mother-in-law, Louise Hughes, Marshall, Mo.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat and Larry Smidt, Pauline, Neb., and Earlene and Billy Roberts, Olathe; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Juanita and Frank O’Conner, Marshall; six nieces; two nephews; four great-nieces; and six great-nephews.
Jim’s family would like to express their deep appreciation for the excellent care and compassion that was given him by Dr. Paul D. Joubert, Dr. Stanley Augustin, Dr. John M. Davis and the nurses, radiology technicians and staff at Lee’s Summit Hospital.

Sylvia Mae Bailey, 70, formerly of Lee’s Summit, died Sunday, April 30, 2000, in Little Rock, Ark.
Memorial services are 1 p.m. Friday, May 5, at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit.

Sylvia was born May 14, 1929, in Lee’s Summit.
She was raised on the family farm in Lee’s Summit.
She graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in 1947.
She received an associate of arts degree from Stephens College for Women, Columbia, Mo.
She graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a bachelor degree in chemistry.
She earned her Ph.D. in nuclear chemistry at the University of California-Berkley.
She was employed by the U.S. Bureau of Standards in Maryland.
She taught at the University of Maryland and the Chicago School System.
She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Chester and Hazel Bailey.
She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley Bailey and James Cronin, McLean, Va.; a nephew, Dr. James T. Cronin, Townsend, Del.; and two great-nephews, Townsend.

JUANITA MARIE BALES
Juanita Marie Bales, 87, of Lee’s Summit passed away Monday, May 1, 2000, at John Knox Village Care Center, Lee’s Summit.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. Thursday, May 4, at Paola Cemetery, Paola, Kan.
Juanita moved to John Knox in 1983, and was active in community activites in the Village.
She is survived by her sister, Edna Rollo, John Knox; a son, Franklin Bales, Ontario, Canada; a niece, Linda Swiderski; and nephew, Ben Lane.

BEN M. HOKE
Ben M. Hoke, 85, of Lone Jack, formerly of Raytown, Mo., died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at St. Mary’s Manor.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday, May 5, at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit, with burial in Lee’s Summit Cemetery, Lee’s Summit.

Ben was born March 16, 1915, in Wingate, Mo.
He retired in 1980 from Raytown Water, Co.
He was a member of the Lone Jack Baptist Church, Lone Jack Civic Club and the Evergreens.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Hoke; and infant daughter, Mary Belle Hoke.
He is survived by three children and spouses, Loretta and David Freeland, Lee’s Summit; Jan and Helmer Jensen, Blue Springs; and Ben and Marilyn Hoke, Kansas City, Mo.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

LEE EVANS
Lee Evans, 70, of Lee’s Summit passed away Thursday, April 27, 2000, at Lee’s Summit Hospital, cremation.
Memorial contributions may be made in Lee’s name to the American Cancer Society, or Lee’s Summit Hospital ICU.
Lee was born April 16, 1930, in Harold, S.D., and lived in Lee’s Summit for the past 30 years.
Lee was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
One of her many virtues was to be there for others and opening her heart and home to all of those who knew her.
She was the rock.
Lee is survived by her husband and partner of 52 years, Frank Evans, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Norene Evans, Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Nancy Evans, Lee’s Summit, and Sheen and Kirby Yates, Greenwood; two grandchildren and granddaughter-in-law, Chris and Tammi Evans, Lee’s Summit, and Micheal Evans, Atlanta; a great-grandson and her youth, Parker Evans, Lee’s Summit; two sisters, Violet Smith and Molly Flood; two brothers, Lenord Auch and Duane Auch; many relatives; friends; and those who called her mom and grandma.
She has left too soon, and will truly be missed and never forgotten.

Marta L. Polen, 38, of Lee’s Summit passed away Monday, May 1, 2000, at Lee’s Summit Hospital.

Marta was born Nov. 11, 1961, in Albuquerque, N.M., and lived most of her life in Lee’s Summit.
