JUANITA MARIE BALES
Juanita Marie Bales, 87, of Lee’s Summit and a resident of John Knox Village Care Center passed away Monday, May 1, 2000, at John Knox Village Care Center, Lee’s Summit.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. Thursday, May 4, at Paola Cemetery, Paola, Kan.
She was born in Watts, Okla., on April 8, 1913.
She was the daughter of the late Benjaman F. and Ethel I. Hutton Endicott.
She had lived in the area of Paola, Ottawa, Topeka and Kansas City, Kan., most all of her life, and was a graduate of Paola High School in the class of 1931.
She married George F. Bales on Nov. 14, 1937, in Wichita, Kan. To this union was born a son, Franklin E. Bales.
She was a member of the Topeka Methodist Church, and Topeka Chapter 462 of Easter Star.
Juanita moved to JKV in 1983 and was active in community events in the Village.
She is survived by her sister, Edna Rollo, JKV Care Center; a son, Franklin Bales, Lawrence, Mass.; a niece Linda Swiderski; and nephew, Ben Lane.

MARTHA ELIZABETH CUNNINGHAM
Martha Elizabeth Cunningham, 82, of Kansas City, Mo., died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at her home.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday, May 6, at Little Sisters of the Poor, 8745 James A. Reed Road, Kansas City, with burial in Lee’s Summit Cemetery, Lee’s Summit.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 5, at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit, with an 8:30 p.m. Rosary.
Memorial contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor.
Martha was born July 2, 1917, in Kansas City, Mo.
She grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Westport High School.
She married Bill Cunningham, Oct. 26, 1940.
She was very active in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, various PTAs and a member of the Guardian Angels Catholic Church.
She was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Cunningham; and her mother and father, Oliver and Susie Cooper.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Anna Lee and Ron Lockwood; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Sue Cunningham; six grandchildren, Mike Lockwood, David Lockwood, Sheri Lindmark, Taylor Cunningham, Dustin Cunningham and Tessa Cunningham; six great-grandchildren, Amanda Lockwood, Jordan Lockwood, Joshua Lockwood, Corey Lockwood, Miranda Lindmark and Lauren Lindmark.
She will be missed by all.

HAZEL M. HUTCHESON
Hazel M. Hutcheson, 95, of Raytown, Mo., passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at Lee’s Summit Hospital.
Funeral services are 3 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, with burial in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the chapel.
The family suggests contributions to the First United Methodist Church, Raytown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, L.B. Hutcheson, on July 16, 1968.
She is survived by three daughters, Betty Brown, Lee’s Summit, Christina Haines, Raytown, and Marcia Dee Jeffries, Osage Beach, Mo.; a sister, Bula Noland, Independence; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandson.

JOYCE A. ORR
Joyce A. Orr, 57, of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Kansas City, Mo., passed away Friday, April 21, 2000.
Memorial services were held at Immanuel Baptist Church, Independence.
She was born in Kansas City on Dec. 17, 1942.
She was a nurse.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ross Boan.
She is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Byers, Lee’s Summit, and Frankie Guillen, Imperial Beach, Calif.; four grandchildren, Jeremy and Chad Byers, Erika and Vanessa Guillen; her mother, Roberta Boan, Independence; a brother, Patrick Boan, Tolleson, Ariz.; and two sisters, Carol Puckett and Kathy Green, both of Independence.
HAZEL ALFA (SWAIN) VEATCH
Hazel Alfa (Swain) Veatch, 91, of Lee’s Summit died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at John Knox Village Care Center, Lee’s Summit.

Cremation with burial in the National Cemetery, Springfield, Mo.

Hazel was born Sept. 30, 1908, in Leavenworth, Kan.
After retirement, she and her husband, Richard A. Veatch, lived in Kimberling City, Mo., Springfield, Mo., and moved to the Village in 1977. They celebrated 68 years of marriage on Christmas Day 1998.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; a brother, Hervey A. Swain; and her parents, Thomas E. and Elvie J. Swain.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty L. and Elmer L. Anderson, Springfield.

K.P. “CAP” ALLEN
K.P. “Cap” Allen, 88, of Greenwood died Friday, May 12, 2000, at his home.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Lee’s Summit, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Greenwood.

Cap was born March 17, 1912, in Morrowville, Kan.
He was the general superintendent for 57 years with Clarkson Construction Co.
He retired in 1994.
He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Thelma Allen, of the home; a daughter, Kona Allen, Greenwood; a grandson, Timothy Gilbert, Aurora, Colo.; a brother, Delbert Allen, Washington, Kan.; and a great-granddaughter.

CHARLES W. EBERSOLE
Charles W. Ebersole, 54, of Olathe, Kan., died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at his home.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday, May 27, at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit, with burial in Raymore Cemetery, Raymore, Mo.

Mr. Ebersole was born Aug. 18, 1945, in Warrensburg, Mo.
He attended the Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
He served his country for four years in the U.S. Army and two of those years were in Germany.
He was working for Loma Vista West.
In the past he was a road driver for Campbell 66 for 13 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Laura Ebersole; and a step-daughter, Deena Denise Barden.
He is survived by Glenna Shannon, of the home; a brother and sister-in-law, John F. and Connie Ebersole; a son, Dustin; and several nieces and nephews.

GREGORY B. HAMILTON
Gregory B. Hamilton, 48, of Lee’s Summit passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan.
Funeral services are 7 p.m. Friday, May 26, at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit, cremation.
Friends may call to 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Greg was born in Aberdeen, S.D., Nov. 23, 1951.
Soon after the family moved to the Ruskin area of Kansas City, Mo.
He was in the first graduating class of O’Hara High School in 1969.
He was an employee of AT&T; Technologies in Lee’s Summit for 16 years until 1987.
He then pursued a career as a police officer for the city of Lee’s Summit with 11 years of distinguished service with the department.
He was awarded the Medal of Honor in May 1995, being the first to receive this honor.
Greg struggled and fought a hard battle since 1994 against liver disease due to Hepatitis C.
He had a liver transplant in October 1997 which was successful.
He enjoyed a quality of life until December 1999 when other organ complications began making him in need of a second transplant.
These complications were overwhelming.
Many thanks and praise to the liver transplant team and coordinators, the physicians and nursing staff at KUMC whose relentless dedication to Greg’s health needs made him comfortable and pass with dignity.
May the family urge you to consider being an organ and tissue donor because lives and families can be saved through your generosity.
He was preceded in death by his father, Maurice Hamilton, in 1994.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Susan; and beloved grandson, Daniel L. Harness, of the home; and step-son, Jonathan L. Patrick, Tempe, Ariz.
He is also survived by his mother, Elaine Hamilton; a brother, Neil Hamilton, Kansas City; a sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Jeff Wright, Kansas City; a niece, Catherine; and a nephew Joseph Wright.
