JAMES HOUSTON “JIM” MAHAN
James Houston “Jim” Mahan, 80, of Belton, Mo., died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at Life Care Center, Grandview, Mo.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29, at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit, with burial in Floral Hills East Cemetery.
Friends called from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
James was born Oct. 8, 1919, in Lee’s Summit.
He served in World War II in the Army from 1941 to 1945, and was awarded two bronze stars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James William and Dora Isabel Mahan; a son, Jimmey Allen Mahan; and a daughter, Sandy Margo.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Dora Mahan, of the home; three brothers, Stanley Mahan, Lee’s Summit, Frank Mahan, Greenwood, and Larry Mahan, Lee’s Summit; two sisters, Waneta Foley, Turlock, Calif., and Naomi Cox, Independence; a step-daughter, Connie Pollick, Kansas City, Kan.; and four grandsons, Danny Pollick, Darrell Pollick and Rusty Pollick, Lebanon, Mo., and Chris Pollick, Kansas City.

HELEN S. QUINN
Helen S. Quinn, 95, of South Kansas City, Mo., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, at John Knox Village Care Center, Lee’s Summit.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at Langsford Funeral Home with graveside services at the Lee’s Summit Cemetery.
Visitation is 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Loma Vista Baptist Church.
Helen was born Jan. 8, 1905, near Mountain Grove, Mo.
She married Thomas Robert Quinn in 1925, who preceded her in death along with their only son, Stephen Robert Quinn, in 1964.
Helen was a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ and served more than 40 years at the Besonia Baptist Church.
She was a faithful member of the Loma Vista church.
She is survived by a sister, Carrie Clary, Belleview, Neb.; three daughters, Lillian Marie Collins, Henrietta, Mo., Altha Ann Bergen, Kansas City, Mo., and Helen Sue Virgason, Salina, Kan.; seven grandsons, Stephen Quinn, Paul Virgason, Michael Rodovsky, David Bergen, Thomas Bergen, Richard Bergen and Edward Collins; three granddaughters, Sharon Clouse, Karen Conroy and Stephanie Chapelle; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She will be sorely missed, but will live on in the hearts and memories of all who knew her.
LORETTA MARIE TYLOR
Loretta Marie Tylor, 84, of Appleton City Manor, formerly of Lee’s Summit, passed away Friday, July 28, 2000.
She requested her body be donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center for research for mankind.
Cremation with a memorial service is to follow at a later date.
Loretta was a very caring, loving and witty person who loved her family very much.
She was an executive secretary for General Motors, before she had her family.
She enjoyed playing tennis, bowling and her friends as a young woman.
She is deeply missed by her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles S. Tyler; a sister, Emma Flynn, Kansas City, Kan.; and two brothers, William Vogrin and Henry Vogrin, both of Kansas City, Kan. She is survived by a sister, Mary Ann Vogrin, Kansas City; a daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Geroge Foster, Lee’s Summit; a son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Janet Tyler, Kansas City, Mo.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.
SANDRA J. CARNESECCA
Sandra J. Carnesecca, 65, passed away Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, after prolonged illness.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 39th Street, with burial in Floral Hills East Cemetery.
A visitation for friends is 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the chapel.

Sandi was born in Mitchell, Neb., on Oct. 15, 1934, to William and Margaret Ledingham.
She graduated the University of Nebraska in 1955, with a bachelor of arts in education.
At the University, Sandi was elected Pigskin Queen, Panhandle Queen, Orange Bowl Princess, and was an active member of the Alpha Phi sorority.
She went on to get her teaching credentials from the University of Colorado, and taught elementary school in Boulder, Colo., for many years.
Sandi and her husband of 34 years, Marvin Carnesecca, were married in 1966.
Her family moved to California in 1969, to establish a business in the San Francisco area.
While there she was active in the local community and worked as a real estate broker.
In 1977, Sandi and her family moved to Lee’s Summit. For the past 20 years, she was co-owner of Stadium Auto Sales, Independence.
While in Lee’s Summit, Sandi served as president of Lakewood Oaks Ladies Golf Club, enjoyed various hobbies and delighted in her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin; her son, John N. Carnesecca, Murrieta, Calif.; her daughter, Carey Sommers, Grain Valley, Mo.; and six grandchildren.
DONALD E. HARPER
Donald E. Harper, 81, of Blue Springs passed away Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Funeral services ar 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at Plaza Heights Baptist Church, Blue Springs, with burial in Green Lawn Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at the church.

Mr. Harper was born Sept. 23, 1918, in Humphreys, Mo., and spent most of his life in the Kansas City, Mo., area.
He was a service man for Harris Brothers Refrigeration for more than 37 years before retiring.
He was a member of Pipefitters Union Local 533.
Donald served in the U.S. Navy in World War II.
He also served as deacon of the Bethany Baptist Church for many years.
He was a member of the Plaza Heights Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a son, Donald L. Harper, in 1942.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Wilma B. Harper, of the home; a son, Gary C. Harper, Independence; two daughters, Kathryn D. Holt and Sharon J. Tooley, both of Blue Springs; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

EVELYN M. LANE
Evelyn M. Lane, 78, of Independence passed away Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at the Monterey Park Care Center, Independence.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at Speaks Midtown Chapel, with burial in Mound Grove Cemetery.
Visitation is 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the chapel.

Evelyn was born Jan. 20, 1922, in Boynton, Okla., and lived in the Independence area since 1957.
She worked as a supervisor for the Independence Housing Authority for seven years, until retiring in 1986.
She was a member of the RLDS Church, Stone Church Congregation.
She is survived by her son, Mike Lane, Blue Springs; a daughter, Patty Meads, Lee’s Summit; a brother, Hersey Skinner, Broken Arrow, Okla.; a sister, Elvera Metcalf, Bethany, Okla.; and two grandchildren, Kelly Marie Meads and Tige Stowell.

Catherine M. Gurst, 88, of Lee’s Summit died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at Lee’s Summit Hospital.
Graveside services were 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11 at Dalton Cemetery, Dalton, Mo.
Friends called from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, with an 8 p.m.

Catherine was born July 22, 1912, in Kansas City, Kan.
She was a member of the Catholic church, and retired from Periodical Publishing Co.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Gurst in 1981; and a sister, Annette Boyle Waggoner.
She is survived by two nieces and nephew-in-law, Nick and Genie Paden, Camdenton, Mo., and Barbara Panzero, Kansas City, Mo.; two nephews and niece-in-law, Jay and Helen Boyle, Marietta, Ga., and Ray Boyle, Kansas City; nine great-nephews and nieces; and five great-great-nephews and nieces.

Opal Ethel (Wray) Ham, 97, of Kansas City, Mo., died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at Oakridge of Plattsburg, Plattsburg, Mo.

Opal was born May 24, 1903, in Island City, Mo.

She is survived by a son, Jack Wray, Lee’s Summit; a daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Delbert James, Kansas City; four grandchildren, Larry James, Danny James, Janet Dines and Karen Lovell; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
