Helen Rose Nichols, 84, of Blue Springs, passed away Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at Monterey Park Nursing Home.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday Feb. 1, at Langsford Funeral Home; burial in Memorial Park, Topeka, Kan.

LISA ZOE VAN SICKLE
Lisa Zoe Van Sickle, 41, of Lee’s Summit, passed away Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at St. Joseph Health Center.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Langsford Funeral Home; burial in Floral Hills East Cemetery.
She was born July 3, 1963, in Kansas City.
She worked for Edward Jones in Raytown, Mo. as the office administrator for the past five years.
Lisa was a member of the Lee’s Summit Christian Church Disciples of Christ.
She loved to read, travel, and enjoy history.
Lisa was a loving wife and mother.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Zo Kavanaugh.
She is survived by her husband, David Van Sickle; two daughters, Lauren and Leigha Van Sickle of the home; her mother, Lenora Weems, Raytown; her father, Robert Wolf, Lee’s Summit; her brother, Chad Kavanaugh, St. Louis; her father-in-law, Harvey Van Sickle, Oak Grove; her sisters-in-laws, Janet Dickinson, Cathy Plaskett, Susan Rogers, Samantha Skiles, Lynn Kavanaugh; and a large extended family.

IRA O. ALLEN II
Ira O. Allen II, 82, Kansas City, Mo., passed away May 1, 2003, at home.
Visitation is 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit, with funeral services following at 10 a.m.
Burial will be in Lee’s Summit Cemetery.
Mr. Allen was born Dec. 17, 1920, in Kansas City.
He retired after 36 years at Unity School as a carpenter, painter and furniture refinisher.
He was volunteer fire chief for Unity Village.
He loved his animals, flowers, trees, and loved working with his hands.
He was always willing to help others.
He spent his spare time daily visiting friends and relatives in area nursing homes and passing out chicken nuggets from Wendy’s.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, in 1991.
Survivors include son, Ira O. Allen III and wife Linda; daughters, Shirley Mae Huffman and husband Jim, Nancy Jo Cook and husband Kelson, Linda K. Allen, and Rita Jean Parker and husband Dennis; grandchildren, Jason E. Allen, Christina Riddell, Harry Bishop Jr., Shannon Huffman, Kalyn Rogers, Jamie Shore, Telina Williams, and Andrea Williams; and great-grandchildren, Quentin Riddell, Jacob Allen Bishop, Jessica Marie Allen, Angela Wallace, Eric Liles, Kayla Liles, Christian Williams, Robert Williams, Aubree Williams, Jessie Weiss, Dylan Weiss and Austin Oshel.

TROY ROBERT FERGUSON
Troy Robert Ferguson, 22, of Lee’s Summit, passed away Monday, April 28, 2003.
Memorial services were 2 p.m. Friday, May 2, at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit. Cremation.
Friends called 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
He was born July 26, 1980, in Bartlesville, Okla.
He was a graduate of Lee’s Summit High School and attended Johnson County Community College and Longview Community College.
Troy loved music, art and cooking.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Lawrence Craig Ferguson.
He is survived by his parents, Craig and Linda Ferguson, of the home; one step-brother, Phillip Ferguson; one step-sister, Cyndie Miller; grandparents, Delores and Frank Fields and Leticia Ferguson; and best friend, Erin Smith.

Betty Sue Gumminger, 68, of Lee’s Summit, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2003, at home.

Betty was born Dec. 29, 1934, in Kirksville, Mo.
She was devoted to her family, friends, church and career.
She will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles L. Cox, in 1963; and her sister, Mary E. Bentele, in 1994.
Betty is survived by her mother, Madeline Cox, Lee’s Summit; one brother, Charles L. Cox, Cameron, Mo.; her children, Jeff Gumminger, College Station, Texas, Gary Gumminger, Kansas City, Mo., and Gail Gumminger, Fort Collins, Colo.; her grandchildren, Krystal Mayhon and Christopher Gumminger; a host of nieces and nephews; and some very special people in her life, Ellen Greer, Sam Morrison, Jack Morrison, Dana, Archie, Jessica and Dean Baker, and Janie Wagstaff.

Edgar R. Bredehoeft, 73, of Emma, Mo., died Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia, Mo.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Emma, with Pastor Walter Snyder officiating; burial in Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery, also in Emma.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday, at the church, with visitation from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Gym Fund or St. Paul Lutheran High School.
He was born March 10, 1930, in rural Emma, to Arnold and Frieda (Alpers) Bredehoeft.
He married Loretta Heermann on May 9, 1953.
He had lived in the Emma area his entire life.
He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church where he held several church offices and taught Sunday School.
He was a retired carpenter and also worked for Emma Coop Elevator.
He was former mayor of Emma. He had served in the Army National Guard. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, on Nov. 24, 1990; and a sister in infancy.
Edgar is survived by his son, Randal Bredehoeft and wife Karen, Emma; two daughters, Pamela Summers and husband, John, Lee’s Summit, and Jacquelyn Bandy and husband Dallas, Lincoln, Mo.; four brothers, Eldred Bredehoeft, Concordia, Mo., Wallace Bredehoeft, Sweet Springs, Mo., Homer Bredehoeft, Warsaw, Mo., and Lawayne “Joe” Bredehoeft, Sedalia, Mo.; four sisters, Frances Evert, Emma, Dorothy Norfleet, Houstonia, Mo., Wilma Driver, Indianapolis, Ind., and Janice Howard, California, Mo.; five grandchildren, Jason Bredehoeft, Brett Summers, Brandon Summers, Eric Bredehoeft and Ashley Bredehoeft; and several nieces and nephews.

F. JO ANN SHIRLEY
F. Jo Ann Shirley, 69, died May 1, 2003, at her daughter’s home in Newton, Kan., after a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was born Oct. 20, 1933, in Elijah, Mo., the daughter of Robert and Jewell McGoldrick.
She was a 1951 graduate of Bakersfield High School in Bakersfield, Mo.
She was a resident of Grain Valley, formerly of Lake Lotawana, where she was a city clerk for many years.
She was a member of the Church of Christ in Oak Grove, Mo.
She was married to William A. “Jack” Shirley on Dec. 1, 1951.
She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn Burgess, and one grandson, Derek Burgess, both of Newton; two brothers, Dwayne McGoldrick, Springfield, Mo., and Tom McGoldrick, West Plains, Mo.; one uncle, Merle McGoldrick, Ripon, Calif.; two nieces; one nephew; and several cousins.
Visitation is 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at Langsford Funeral Home, with funeral services to follow at 3 p.m.
Burial is 2 p.m. Sunday, at Howell County Memorial Gardens, West Plains.

RICHARD FRANCIS LONG
Richard Francis Long, 60, Independence, died April 28, 2003, at Truman Medical Center.
Funeral services are 7 p.m. Monday, May 5, at Mt. Washington Forever Funeral Home; burial at a later date at Mt. Washington Forever Cemetery.
A “Celebration of Life” will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, prior to services.
ADA “DOCIA” WILSON
Docia Wilson, born Sept. 17, 1900, in Appleton City, Mo., to Theodore and Lauvina Anderson, died on April 27, 2003, at the age of 102.
She made her home in Raytown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and one brother.
She is survived by a brother, Lawrence Anderson, Kurtistown, Hawaii; two sons, Leslie Wilson, Lee’s Summit, and Clifford Wilson, Raytown; one daughter, Stella Bearce, Albuquerque, N.M.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Docia had many wonderful Christian qualities along with a great sense of humor.
Because of her love for her Lord, she loved people, especially children, and they loved her equally.
She farmed and milked 50 cows with her husband near Appleton City for 30 years until his death at age 52, then moved to Kansas City, Mo. and raised several grandchildren while cleaning houses and ironing to help buy her own home.
She lived life to the maximum.
She visited, wrote notes and telephoned shut-ins, was the neighborhood seamstress, and taught Sunday School for 87 years, the last 44 years were spent teaching five-year olds.
She taught until she reached the age of 99.
She won Mrs. Nursing Home Queen for the State of Missouri when she was 100 and celebrated her 102nd birthday by riding on a jet ski with her eldest son.
Visitation is 12:30 to 1:30 Saturday, May 3, at First Baptist Church, 10500 350 Highway, Raytown, followed by a celebration service at 1:30. Graveside services will be at Appleton City Cemetery between 3 and 3:30 p.m.
The family suggests donations in her memory be given to the Building Fund, First Baptist Church of Raytown, but flowers will also be appreciated.
