PAUL EDWARD POLLARD
Paul Edward Pollard, 65, of Lee’s Summit, passed away Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at Life Care Center of Grandview.
Services are at noon Friday, Oct. 29, at Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, Grain Valley, Mo.
He will be laid to rest with military honors in Jackson County Veteran’s Field of Honor in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Mr. Pollard’s name.
Paul was born July 17, 1939, in Knoxville, Iowa, to Philip Pollard and Evelyn (Long) Pollard.
He served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force and trained in communications.
He married LuEtta Wheelhouse in 1973, and to that union three daughters were born.
Paul worked in the finance department of several automobile dealerships in the area.
He was preceded in death by his mother; father; and sister, Patricia Pollard.
Paul is survived by daughters, Kerry Pollard, Lee’s Summit, Tracy (Chip) Woodman, Raymore, and Anne Pollard, Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren, Max and Owen Woodman, Raymore; sister, Sandra Carnahan, Oak Grove, Mo.; aunt and uncle, Bill and Mary Susan Pollard, Princeton, Mo.; and cousins, Gary and Larry Pollard, Half Rock, Mo.

ERMEL (LYNCH) WALKER
Ermel (Lynch) Walker, 87, of Richmond, Mo., died at 12:51 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at Liberty Hospital, Liberty, Mo.
Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 25, at Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond; burial in Richmond Memory Gardens, Richmond.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
Ermel was born Nov. 18, 1916, in Branch, Mo., to James Monroe and Eliza May (Jump) Lynch.
She married Richard Vernon Walker of Lexington, Mo., on May 28, 1936.
Mrs. Walker lived most of her life in Richmond before moving to Polo, Mo. seven years ago.
She was employed as a machine operator at Midwest Hanger, Kansas City, Mo., and at the Braymer Toy Factory.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard, on March 7, 1993; two brothers, Loren and Oren Lynch; and two sisters, Lola Parrack and Effie Harrington.
Ermel is survived by one son, Richard James Walker, Topeka, Kan.; four daughters, Betty Sue Roberts, Lee’s Summit, Deloris Ostermeyer, Polo, Barbara Bolch, Richmond, and Bernice Kelly, Polo; one brother, Orie Lynch, Holt, Mo., one sister, Peggy Sullard, Richmond; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great great-granddaughter.

DONALD ERISMAN SR.
Donald William Erisman Sr., 70, Mayview, Mo., died Oct. 16, 2004, at New Haven Nursing Home, Odessa, Mo.
Services were Oct. 19, at Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, Odessa; burial in Odessa Cemetery.
Survivors include a son, Don Erisman, and his wife, Lori, Lee’s Summit.
CARL S. JACKSON
Carl S. Jackson, 87, of Lee’s Summit, passed on to his eternal home on Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at John Knox Village Care Center, Lee’s Summit.
Memorial services are at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at South-Broadland Presbyterian Church, 7850 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131. Visitation will follow services at the church.
Private graveside services are at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to South-Broadland Presbyterian Church or Alzheimer’s Association.
Carl was born Nov. 13, 1916, near Excelsior Springs, Mo., to William and Sylvia Jackson.
After graduation from Excelsior Springs High School, he joined the Civil Conservation Corps.
He graduated from Central Business College in Kansas City.
He served as a secretary to a Missouri state senator in Jefferson City, Mo.
In Jefferson City, he met Anna “Ann” Deaver, who became his life partner on June 16, 1940.
He and Ann moved to Washington D.C. where he became secretary to the Secretary of the National Investors’ Council.
Following this, he was employed by the Department of Agriculture as a hearing stenographer, reporting violations of the Food Stamp Plan.
In May of 1943, Carl enlisted in the Navy as a Yeoman 2nd Class.
After serving some time in Washington D.C., he transferred to Pearl Harbor.
There he served as writer for Rear Admiral William Calhoun.
After his military service, Carl and his family returned to Kansas City where he became a sales representative with New York Life Insurance Company for more than 50 years.
He was a Charter Life underwriter and a member of the Million Dollar Round Table.
Carl was a member of South-Broadland Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and taught Sunday school for many years.
His church was a vital part of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Chester, Ernest and Gill; sister, Hazel Jackson; and son-in-law, William Fisher.
Carl is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ann; their three daughters, Martha Eagle and husband, Tom, Lee’s Summit, Carol Fisher, Leawood, Kan., and Barbara Nicol and husband, Scott, Madison, Ala.; brother, Lloyd Jackson and his wife, Mildred; grandchildren, Tom Eagle and wife, Karen, Andy Fisher and wife, Amy, David Fisher, Kelly Fisher, Christine Nix and husband, Jay, and Jennifer Clardy and husband, Stephen; and six great-grandchildren.

MARJORIE L. PHELPS
Marjorie L. Phelps, 87, of Belton, Mo., passed away Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at Belton Research Hospital.
Funeral services are at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at Langsford Funeral Home.
Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, prior to services, at the funeral home.
Marjorie was born May 28, 1917, in Havner, Mont.
She grew up in Lost Springs, Kan.
As an adult, she settled in Wichita, Kan., where she began her church ministry by founding a church in Hilltop, Kan.
Later she moved around Kansas, spreading God’s word through her Bible teachings and the newsletter she began in her home.
Until the end, she continued her ministry by teaching Bible study at Beautiful Savior Home.
Her love for her son and her love for God were her focus in life.
Marjorie is survived by her son, Daniel R. Phelps and his wife, Lynn, Pleasant Hill; two granddaughters, Christi Reed and Laurie Phelps; one grandson, Eric Brooks; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Rich Richardson, Wellington, Kan.

WALTER HARVEY RYAN
Walter Harvey Ryan, 90, of Lee’s Summit, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at North Kansas City Hospital, Kansas City, Mo.
Memorial services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at Langsford Funeral Home; burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Holiday Fund at The Fountains of Greenbrier.
Walter was born Feb. 22, 1914, in Miami, Mo., the son of Daniel H. and Lula V. (Mullins) Ryan.
He moved to Kansas City in 1929. He married Evelyn Olivia Wright on Sept. 17, 1937.
They resided in Kansas City until they moved to Lee’s Summit in 1989.
For the past year, Walter had been a resident of The Fountains at Greenbrier.
He was a lifelong member of the Eastgate Masonic Lodge.
He worked for General Motors Assembly Division Leeds Plant from 1946 until his retirement in 1976, as a final inspector.
After retirement, Walter and Evelyn took many road trips and enjoyed their grandchildren and their home.
For many years, and to many people, Walter was affectionately known as “Grandpa.”
He was a gentle, humble and thrifty man.
Walter was preceded in death by his son, Daniel H. Ryan, in 1987; wife, Evelyn, in 1994; his parents; three brothers, Robert W. Ryan, Archie, Mo., Herbert E. Ryan, Riverside, Calif., and Philip H. Ryan, Archie; and one sister, Bertha Mae Johnson, Independence.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Hugh H. and Margie Ryan, Lee’s Summit; two grandsons and their wives, Hugh H. and Shana Ryan, and Timothy W. and Melanie Ryan; four great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Nicholas, Adam and Anna Ryan, all of Lee’s Summit; one brother, Edwin L. Ryan, San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mildred M. Sullivan, 91, of Pleasanton, Kan., passed away Oct. 16, 2004.

Betty Jean Viergutz passed away peacefully on Oct. 17, 2004, after a lengthy illness.
Services are at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at Langsford Funeral Home, with a visitation one hour prior to services.
A celebration of life will be held at her sister Clara’s home following burial in Lee’s Summit Cemetery.
Betty was born Oct. 18, 1925, in Lee’s Summit, the daughter of Robert and Mary Dale.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Charles Dale.

VIRGINIA COWAN
Virginia Cowan, 77, of Oak Park, Ill., died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004.
Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at Lee’s Summit Cemetery.
She was born July 24, 1927, the daughter of Walter Cowan and Virginia (James) Cowan, and the granddaughter of Cora and W.S. James, Lee’s Summit.
Virginia is survived by one brother, Walter Cowan Jr.; and other relatives, Fred Haynes, Fred Haynes Jr., Bill Haynes and Karen Haynes.

DONALD LAWRENCE ALLEN
After a hard-fought battle with heart disease, Donald Allen went to heaven on Oct. 12, 2004.
He was 73.
Friends and family are welcome to a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at Langsford Funeral Home.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit.
He will rest in peace in his hometown of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, at Livingston Funeral Home, Council Bluffs.
Graveside services are 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Donald was born Feb. 19, 1931, in Council Bluffs, to Russell and Mildred (Brown) Allen.
He attended Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, and joined the Air Force in 1949.
He later graduated from Truman State University, formerly known as Northeast Missouri State University, with a bachelor’s degree.
He then went on to graduate from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with a law degree.
After graduating from law school, he opened his own practice at Third and Jefferson streets in Lee’s Summit.
He also enjoyed serving as a part-time prosecutor in the Jackson County prosecutor’s office in Independence.
He served on the Lee’s Summit Parks Board, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit, Missouri Bar Association, Kansas City Bar Association, Eastern Jackson County Bar Association, Excelsior Lodge #259 of the American Legion, Masonic Bodies: Summit Lodge #263 and Ararat Shrine Temple.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Allen, of the home; a sister and brother-in-law, Stella and Jack Christianson, Council Bluffs; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Amy Allen, Lee’s Summit; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Russell Hansen, Newton, Kan., and Rhonda and Mark Trosen, Blue Springs; and two step-children and their spouses, Donna and Pat Denney, Lee’s Summit, and Brian and Tammy Sultzbaugh, Round Rock, Texas.
He had two great-grandchildren, and was “grandpa” to 10 grandchildren, Coulter Allen, Cartland Allen, Chanterra Allen, Brent Hansen, Nathan Hansen, Amber Smith, Katie Hansen, Sarah Trosen, Amanda Trosen and Caden Sultzbaugh.
He also leaves a number of very close relatives in Council Bluffs.
