RICHARD K. LANDTISER
Richard K. Landtiser, 81, of Lee’s Summit, passed away Sept. 4, 2004, at his home, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Funeral services are at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at McGilley & Hoge Chapel; burial in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens.
Richard served as a Captain in World War II for 15 months in the 4th Armored Division in Europe, going through three countries including the Battle of the Bulge, under General Patton.
After World War II, he graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in engineering.
He worked at Hallmark Cards for more than 40 years until retirement in 1988.
Richard was a dedicated volunteer in the communities where he lived and worked.
Most recently these included Lee’s Summit Police Department and Lee’s Summit Hospital.
Other volunteer work was for Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Channel 5 Call for Action, Hallmark Retirees Club, Community Blood Center, and Widowed Persons Services.
Richard will be honored with a Donor Hall of Fame ceremony on Sept. 11, 2004, for his 347 lifetime donations.
He had been inducted into the National Community Blood Center Hall of Fame.
His civic memberships were Kiwanis, city councilman for 17 years in Overland Park, Kan., and was active in the 4th Armored Association from 1968 to 1985.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Gayle Paulseen; and brother, Paul Landtiser.
Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Carrie Landtiser, of the home; daughter, Carol (Bob) Quiles; stepsons, Leon (Frances) Holzer, Kevin (Annette) Holzer, and Chester (Vinita) Holzer; stepdaughter, Donna (Stuart) Keller; two grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

LISA LYNN SHROYER
Lisa Lynn Shroyer, 38, of Independence, passed away Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at her home.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Langsford Funeral Home; burial in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Lincoln, Mo.
Lisa was born Dec. 27, 1965, in Kansas City, Mo. She was an LPN at Wilshire at Lakewood nursing home.
She was a member of East Side Church of Christ, Lee’s Summit.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Kimberley Ann Kreisel; and four loving grandparents.
Survivors include her husband, Douglas Shroyer, Independence; her loving parents, Wilford and Pat Kreisel, Lee’s Summit; sister, Kellie Smith and husband, Chad, Lee’s Summit; and her many nieces and nephews who were the joy of her life.

CLARA BRIGGS
Clara Caroline Briggs, 98, passed away Aug. 29, 2004, at John Knox Village, Lee’s Summit, where she had been a resident for 18 years.
At Clara’s request, cremation has taken place and burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo.
Clara was born June 7, 1906, in Livingston, Ill., to German immigrants, Clara Josephine Henkhaus and Eduard Henkhaus, first cousins.
In her early 20s, she moved to St. Louis, Mo., where she married Ansel Briggs on June 8, 1928.
To that union, two children were born, Francis and Arvin.
She was an outgoing person with a happy personality and loved to play Bridge, Pinochle and Checkers.
She worked as a clerk for the Jones Store in Kansas City for 25 years.
She moved several times across Missouri with her family, from St. Louis, to Gerald, Mo., Lake of the Ozarks, Kansas City, and then to John Knox.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ansel Briggs, in 1959; and her only son, Arvin Briggs, in 1998.
Clara is survived by her daughter, Francis (Wally) Waddell, Montana; grandson, Daniel (Jones) Larsen, Seattle, Wash.; daughter-in-law, Patricia Briggs, Missouri; grandson, Patrick (Laney) Briggs, Missouri; granddaughter, Barbara (William) Smith; and four great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Jordan and Caleb Smith and Jason Briggs, all of Missouri.
TRAVIS JEREMY GADINO
Travis Jeremy Gadino, 21, of Lake Winnebago, Mo., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at his home.
Memorial services are at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, at Lee’s Summit Community Church, 1440 S.W. Jefferson St., Lee’s Summit, MO 64081.
Cremation.
Viewing will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at Langsford Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lee’s Summit Community Church Benevolence Fund, in care of the church.
Travis was born March 25, 1983, in Overland Park, Kan.
He was the assistant manager at True Value Hardware.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Oneida and Eugene Ziegler, Emporia, Kan.
Survivors include parents, Geri and Rene Gadino; one sister, Erin Nicole (Gadino) La Madrid and husband, Lorenzo, Burbank, Calif.; one brother, Ty Gadino, Lee’s Summit; grandmother, Josie Gadino, Tom’s River, N.J.; and loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Travis always lived life to the fullest.
He expressed a contagious enthusiasm to everyone he knew through his vibrancy and wit.
The family rests in assurance that Travis is with Jesus and is now the free spirit that God created him to be.

EARL W. WHITEHURST
Earl Whitehurst passed away Aug. 30, 2004, at his home in Mesa, Ariz.
Memorial services are at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at First Friends Church, Emporia, Kan., with Rev. Galen Hinshaw and Rev. Tom Decker, of the church, officiating.
The family will meet with friends following the service, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Friends Church or American Heart Association.
He was born May 25, 1927, in Hartford, Kan., to George W. and Lula M. (Bowen) Whitehurst.
His father died in a house fire when Earl was seven years old.
Earl served in the U.S. Army at the end of World War II, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge, helping with the Berlin Airlift and standing guard during the Nuernberg trials.
He married Aldena M. Smith on Jan. 18, 1953, at First Friends Church.
He was a retired firefighter for the Emporia Fire Department, and helped in establishing the E.M.S. system in Emporia.
He was a “Man of the Week” in the Emporia Gazette.
Earl and Aldena owned and operated the Whitehurst Auction Service for many years.
Aldena preceded him in death in 1997.
Earl married Jane Brooks in October 23, 1999.
He was associated with First Friends Church, Willow Creek Friends Church of Kansas City, Mo., Red Mountain Methodist Church in Mesa, and Lee’s Summit United Methodist Church.
He was also a member of the Kiwani’s Club and VFW Post #7957.
He loved his family, friends and a good laugh.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and six sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Brooks, of the home; three children, Charlotte (George) Rainsbarger, Emporia, Kan., Joyce (Larry) Eshenroder, Lee’s Summit, and Steven (Patty Sents) Whitehurst, Lee’s Summit; family by marriage, Helen Wright, and Drs. Richard and Cindy Brooks; grandchildren: Billy Rainsbarger; Kim, Cyndi, Julie and Laurie Eshenroder; Zach and Hannah Whitehurst; and Sarah, Hannah and Jonah Wright; and many nieces and nephews.

CHARLES ROBERT BARR
Charles Robert Barr, 60, of Lee’s Summit, passed away Aug. 28, 2004.
Memorial services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, with visitation at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 350 S.W. 150 Highway, Lee’s Summit.

Charles was born Sept. 7, 1943, in Kansas City, Kan.
He graduated from Wyandotte High School and upon completion served his country as a medical technician in the United States Air Force.
After the service, he attended Ottawa University and Park University.
Charles spent his entire career selling wholesale distribution and accounting systems for NCR Corporation, Reynolds & Reynolds, Triad Systems Corporation and Benchmark Computer Systems.
Most recently, he founded and served as president and CEO of Professional Data Systems, Inc., a local software development company headquartered in Lee’s Summit that specializes in wholesale distribution systems.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Irene Barr.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; son, Chris Barr and wife, Kristel, Lee’s Summit; daughter, Stacey Motsick and husband, Matt, Shawnee, Kan.; and three grandchildren, Madison, Austin and Emily.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He enjoyed life to the fullest and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
