Edmund Phrys Owen, 91, passed away March 19, 2004, at Raymore Health Care.
Graveside services are 10 a.m. on his birthday, Friday, March 26, at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kan. Cremation.

Ed was born March 26, 1912, in Ethel, Mo., the fourth of six children to Richard E. and Nina Irene Owen.
He was married to Opal Octavia White on Dec. 7, 1933.
Their beloved daughter, Carolyn Joyce Owen was born Sept. 5, 1940.
After Opal’s death in 1970, Ed met and married Margaret Talley Ritch on Nov. 10, 1972.
Ed and Margaret enjoyed traveling, playing cards, walking and genealogy.
Before they moved to Raymore Health Care a few years ago, “Aunt Margaret and Uncle Ed” hosted many memorable Thanksgiving dinners and summer barbecues for their blended families.
Ed was a devoted railroad employee and consultant during his working life.
During his twilight years, he loved to visit and reminisce with friends and family.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, in August 2001; and his daughter, Carolyn, in February 2003.
He is survived by his twin brother, Ellis Rhys Owen and his wife, Dorothy Owen, Phoenix, Ariz., and numerous nieces and nephews all over the United States.

Kenneth R. Marley, Ret., 68, of Lee’s Summit, passed away Monday, March 15, 2004, at his home.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Friday, March 19, at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit; burial in Floral Hills East Cemetery, also in Lee’s Summit.

Mr. Marley was born June 30, 1935, in Kansas City, Kan.
He was an agent for Old American Insurance Company.
He served his country with the Missouri Army National Guard, initially part time, and later on a full-time basis.
He served for more than 42 years, until his retirement in 1995.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as an Army recruiter.
He was a member of American Legion, Post 21, Independence; lifetime member of Missouri National Guard Association; and past member of Boy Scouts of America, Tribe of Mic-O-Say.
He had received a bachelor’s of science degree from Parkville University.
Kenneth enjoyed traveling, wood working and his water garden.
He was preceded in death by his son, Shanon C. Marley; and his mother, Reva D. Marley.
Survivors include his wife, Elfriede, his son, Shawn K., his father, Chester C. Marley, and sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Robert Strawn, all of Lee’s Summit; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends.

PATRICIA LAWRENCE GUINNIP BRADEN
Patricia Lawrence Guinnip Braden, 63, of Lee’s Summit, passed away March 16, 2004, at her home.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 20, at Langsford Funeral Home; burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to services, at the funeral home.

Patricia was born June 23, 1940, in Pleasant Hill.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who touched many children’s lives through her home daycare.
She was actively involved with her church family and her many friends.
Patricia’s family enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling and being outdoors with her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse Braden; mother, Estella Braden; and brother-in-law, Charles Pfaff.
Survivors include her daughter, Kim Lawrence; son, Kirt Lawrence, his wife, Barbara, and their children, Nicole, Megan and Kylie; son, Kent Lawrence, his wife, Tina, and their children, Makenzie and Parker; step-daughter, Melissa Yarnell, her husband, Paul, and their children, Amanda and Joshua; honorary son, Kevin Birkmeyer; sister, Maxine Pfaff; and best friend, Paul Guinnip.

CLARENCE C. BUTHOD
Clarence C. Buthod, 71, formerly of Jefferson City, Mo., died Monday, March 1, 2004, at Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico, Mo.
He was born July 30, 1932, in Wesphalia, Mo., the son of Louis and Johanna Schaefer Buthod, who both preceded him in death.
He was a 1951 graduate of Loose Creek High School, leaving early to serve in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict, where he earned a Purple Heart award.
Survivors include three brothers, Marvin V. Buthod, Norman J. Buthod, and Walter J. Buthod; four sisters, Florence M. Branson, Grace M. Lansford, Dorothy M. Riegel and Rose J. Edler; and many nieces and nephews, including Greg Buthod, Lee’s Summit.

Carol J. Peterson, 68, Lee’s Summit, died March 11, 2004, at Park Place Care Center.
Memorial services were at 11 a.m. March 15, at Deerbrook Covenant Church, Lee’s Summit.

Alice Marie Clear Stratton, 74, formerly of Lee’s Summit, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2004, in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Graveside services are 10 a.m. Friday, March 19, at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Warrensburg, Mo.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, prior to service, at the funeral home.
Alice was born Nov. 19, 1929.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother.
She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Jonathan Stratton, of the home; three children, Lori Harp and husband, Bob, Stephen Clear and Carl Stratton and wife, Pam; five grandchildren; and seven brothers.

Margaret M. Vandeventer, 91, of Lee’s Summit, passed away March 12, 2004.
Visitation is 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, followed by funeral services at 3 p.m., at Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, I-435 and Holmes Road.
Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society.
Margaret was born Jan. 4, 1913, in Montrose, Mo.
She was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit, and a member of its Joy Club.
She will be remembered as an excellent seamstress and an avid fisherman.
Mrs. Vandeventer was preceded in death by her husband, Carl D. Vandeventer, in 1987.
Survivors include her son, Jerry Vandeventer and his wife, Liza, Tampa, Fla.; daughter, Karen Colby and her husband, Curtis, Independence, Mo.; four grandchildren, Sharon, Patrick, Christine and Brian; three great-grandchildren, Shannon, Malorie and Ryan; and four sisters, Agnes, Helen, Valeria and Dorothy.

Velma F. Foster, 92, of Lee’s Summit, formerly of Clinton, Mo., passed away March 4, 2004, at John Knox Village Care Center.
Funeral services were Monday, March 8, in Clinton.
She had been a resident of John Knox Village since 1996.
Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Carleton C. Foster; and son, Corless Foster.
She is survived by sons, Carroll Foster and wife, Neola, Lee’s Summit, and Donald Foster and wife, Phyllis, Macon, Mo.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.
