Mary Jane Austell, 67, of Independence, passed away Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at Lee’s Summit Hospital.
Graveside services are Saturday, Feb. 21, at Higginsville Cemetery.
Visitation is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at Langsford Funeral Home.
She is survived by her son, Michael Austell and his wife, Charlene; and three grandchildren, Connor, Anna and Matthew.

WILLIE E. MOFFITT
Willie E. Moffitt, 84, of Kansas City, Mo., went to be with the Lord on Feb. 12, 2004.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 16, at Lee’s Summit Cemetery.
Willie served five years in World War II.
He was a truck driver for Time D.C. with Teamster Local 41 for 36 years.
He was a member and deacon of Greenwood Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Ann; three children, Randy Moffitt, Wayne Moffitt and Terri Schenke; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

LELA MAUDE O’BRYANT
Lela Maude O’Bryant, 95, of Lee’s Summit, formerly of Brookline and Carthage, Mo., died at 4:45 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, at Lee’s Summit Hospital.
Graveside services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Evergreen Cemetery; Rev. Bert Miller officiated.
Lela was born Jan. 7, 1909, in Greene County, Mo., the daughter of Nathaniel A. and Clara Eliza (Brown) Pittman.
She was united in marriage to Ralph O’Bryant on Dec. 1, 1926.
While living in Carthage, she was an active member of Morgan Heights Pep Club.
After moving to Lee’s Summit, Mrs. O’Bryant became a member of Longview Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph O’Bryant, in 1980; a son, John Edward O’Bryant; her parents; a brother, Floyd Pittman; and a sister, Mildred.
Lela is survived by a son, Robert O’Bryant, Independence; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; a sister, Hazel Lee Minor, Grover Beach, Calif.; other relatives and a host of friends.

DONNA SUE GIBSON
Donna Sue Gibson, 65, Lee’s Summit, formerly of Independence, Kan., died Feb. 11, 2004, at her home.

RONALD L. STANDRIDGE
Ronald L. Standridge, 64, of Summerfield, Fla., formerly of Lee’s Summit, died suddenly on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at Langsford Funeral Home.
Ron was a member of North Lake Presbyterian Church in Lady Lake, Fla.

Ron was born on June 27, 1939, in Rodeo, Calif.
He grew up in Heavener, Okla., and graduated from the University of Oklahoma.
He was loyal Sooner football fan and he represented the true spirit and character of the Sooners with his “can-do” attitude.
Ron served as a certified public accountant, chief financial officer and senior corporate executive in the oil and gas industry for much of his career, but golf was his real passion and ambition.
Ron believed that a bad day at golf is better than a good day at work.
His career took him to the Kansas City area, where he met his soulmate, Barbara.
They made their home in Lee’s Summit until they retired in Florida.
Ron was a devoted, loving husband, and will be sadly missed.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dolora (Akin) Standridge; and his first wife, Darlyann.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; his daughter, Cindy Standridge, Oklahoma City, Okla.; a sister, Margaret Zimmerman, Tacoma, Wash.; step-parents, Bill and Roghnee Aiken, Hodgen, Okla.; and countless friends he made, because Ron didn’t know a stranger.
Ron was a member of a large and loving family, and was a devoted father and husband.
He loved Barbara’s children and their families as his own.
They are Deborah and Michael Wheeler, and grandson, Tony Biagi, Garden City, Mo., and Kevin and Karen Biagi, Hunstville, Ala.

CHERILYN SUE REESE
Cherilyn Sue Reese, 48, of Lee’s Summit, joined her Savior after a nine year fight with breast cancer.
She passed at her home Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, surrounded by her family and friends.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Lee’s Summit; burial in Lee’s Summit Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to American Cancer Society.

PEARL FRANCES BROWN
Pearl Frances Brown, 86, of Independence, passed away Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at The Groves.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at Langsford Funeral Home; burial in Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence.
Visitation is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Pearl was born Jan. 26, 1918, in Purcell, Mo., the daughter of James F. Green and Ethel Green.
She moved to Exeter, Calif., in 1931.
She married Herbert W. Brown and came back to Missouri in 1946 after the war.
She lived the rest of her life in this area and was retired from the Internal Revenue Service.
Pearl was a lifelong member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one daughter, Leila Frances Brown.
Survivors include four children, Randy Brown, Linda Love, John Brown and Greg Brown; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Leland Dexter Mapes, 77, of Kansas City, passed away Feb. 1, 2004, at Cedar Valley Health Center.
Cremation.
Services will be at a later date at Blue Ridge United Methodist Church; inurnment in Memorial Park Cemetery, where he will be honored as Toastmaster and a World War II veteran.
Leland was in retail sales and worked at Unity Public Relations and Silent Unity’s telephone prayer room.
He is survived by his wife, Rosanne; former wife, Barbara; five children; two step-children; sister, Lois; brother, Harland; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

JAMES F. “JIM” MARTIN
James F. “Jim” Martin, 83, of Lee’s Summit, passed away Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at Lee’s Summit Hospital.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at First Presbyterian Church of Lee’s Summit; burial in Lee’s Summit Cemetery.

Jim was born Oct. 1, 1920, in Odessa, Mo., to James F. Martin and Louise (Cochran) Martin.
Jim graduated from Odessa High School in 1938.
He then graduated from Missouri Valley College in 1942 with a major in business.
He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942, serving during World War II as a lieutenant in the Pacific until 1945.
He married Helen Lucille Miller on Jan. 17, 1946, at First Presbyterian Church of Lee’s Summit.
Jim was in the banking business all of his life, working for City National Bank in Kansas City for a short time, and then Bank of Lee’s Summit in 1947 as a cashier.
He rose to the position of bank president in 1977, and retired in 1982.
Jim was active in church, serving as Elder, Deacon, Trustee and Clerk of Session.
He taught Sunday school for many years and sang in the church choir.
Jim was active in banking and civic affairs, past president of the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce, a charter member and past president of Lee’s Summit Rotary Club, past president of Missouri Valley Alumni Association, member of Eastern Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and former vice president of Lee’s Summit School Board.
Jim was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Lee’s Summit, the Rusty Zipper Club and VFW Local Post #5789.
He enjoyed wood working, his ham radio and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Dorothy Phillips.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Helen Martin, of the home; his four daughters and their husbands, Cathy and Jack Howell, Patty and Mike Sievers, Judy and Monte Holcomb, all of Lee’s Summit, and Becky and Kent Stiles, Texas; and seven grandchildren, Brian Howell, Matt Howell, Michelle Sievers, Jim Sievers, David Sievers, Kevin Stiles and Cameron Stiles.
He will be loved and missed by his family and many friends.
