WANDA LORENE CARTER
On Oct. 1, 1938 a daughter, Wanda L. Carter was born to Troy Hershel and Mabel Hodges Willbanks in Gassville, Ark. She went to meet her savior on Oct. 13, 2006 at her home at the age of 68.
She married William "Bill" Carter in Wichita, Kan., on June 5, 1955. They lived in Belton, Mo., prior to moving to Lee’s Summit, where they have remained for the past 40 years.
Mrs. Carter was a full-time homemaker. She was a Girl Scout Leader and volunteered as a room and a library clerk at Westview Elementary in Lee’s Summit. She was a very active member of the Lane Avenue Baptist Church in Kansas City, Mo., where for the past 20 years she coordinated and attended the nursery.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents and an infant grandson, Matthew Slagle.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Bill Carter of the home; one sister, Charlotte Homes, and husband, Danny, of Gainesville, Mo.; three children, Conna Perkins and husband, Glenn, of Grandview, Mo.; Phillip Carter and wife, Vickie, of Pleasant Hill, Mo; Carla Slagle and husband, Mike, of Lee’s Summit; 11 grandchildren, Kelly Fielder and husband, Stephen, Chad Perkins and wife, Annie, SSG Jacob Carter and wife, Stephanie, SPC Justin Carter, Brandon Slagle, Jesse Carter, Mitchell Slagle and Kayla Slagle; three great–grandchildren, Luke Perkins, Caleb Perkins and Emily Fielder; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Oct. 16, 2006 at Lane Avenue Baptist Church of Kansas City with the Rev. Jerry Applegate officiating; burial in Lee’s Summit Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Chad Perkins, SSG Jacob Carter, SPC Justin Carter, Brandon Slagle, Jesse Carter, Mitchell Slagle and Stephen Fielder.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lane Avenue Baptist Church of Kansas City.

LUCILLE FISCHER
Lucille Fischer, 78, of Las Vegas, N.V., formerly of Lee’s Summit, passed away on Oct. 5, 2006. Born in St. Louis, Mo., she lived in Las Vegas for almost four years.
She was an artist and teacher.
Mrs. Fischer worked with a variety of artistic media including sculpture, pottery, watercolor painting and macramé. Her works have been displayed at many museums and art fairs.
Mrs. Fischer also was a public school art teacher and instructed in the school districts of Akron, Ohio; Raytown, Mo., and Lee’s Summit. She obtained a university degree from the University of Akron.
Mrs. Fischer’s interests in art included participating in the docent programs at both the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Mo., and the Las Vegas Art Museum, in Las Vegas.
She is survived by her son and daughter in-law, Jeffrey and Carolyn Fischer of Alexandria, Va.; daughter, Pamela Fischer of Las Vegas; sisters Carolyn George and Anita Louise Miller of St. Louis; bother and sister in-law, Wally and Jenny George of St. Louis
Mrs. Fischer was the widow of the Rev. William L. Fischer of the Unity School of Christianity, who died in 1994. Services will take place in St. Louis and the family requests any donations go to Nathan Adelson Hospice.

VELMA MAE KIRBY
Velma Mae Kirby, 88, of Lee’s Summit, died on Oct. 17, 2006. She was born on May 5, 1918 in Halstead, Kan., to Homer and Lottie Popkins. She married Capt. Robert W. Hornbaker, U.S. Army Air Corps, on Oct. 11, 1942. He was killed in action over France on May 25, 1944. She married Vernon Kirby on Feb. 14, 1948.
Velma was a life-long musician. She earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from Wichita University, attended Northwestern University, and taught elementary and high school music for 25 years in the Wichita, Kan., school system. She was an accomplished pianist and organist, and accompanied soloists and choruses since she was in high school.
Memberships include Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Twentieth Century Club, Bella Vista Organ Belles, Belle Vista Women’s Chorus, Sigma Alpha Iota music sorority and Lee’s Summit United Methodist Church.
Her life and entry into eternal life will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, at Lee’s Summit United Methodist Church, 114 S.E. Douglas, with Pastor Jim Preisig presiding. Viewing will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church and interment will follow the service at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, Kan.
She was preced in death by her parents; first husband; sisters, Bernice Gamer and Eileen Sayles; and infant daughter, Marcia Elaine Kirby.
Survivors include husband, Vernon, of Lee’s Summit; sister, Virginia Popkins of Reseda Calif.; daughters, Darla (David) Dodson of Fort Worth, Texas, and Kathy (Bob) Gattshall of Shawnee, Kan.; son, Craig Kirby, of Fort Collins, Colo.; five grandchildren and three great-grandsons.
Memorials may be directed to the church’s building fund or the Parkinson’s Foundation.

GENE LOYD "POPS" MADDEN SR.
Gene Loyd "Pops" Madden Sr., 68, of Lee’s Summit passed away on Oct. 16, 2006 at home with family by his side.
Memorial services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006 at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit. Visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, 2006 at the funeral.
Mr. Madden was born on March 22, 1938 in Dorchester, Texas. He was married to his loving wife and best friend, Sharon Madden, for 45 years. He graduated from Minco, Okla., served in the U.S. Air Force before being honorably discharged, then worked at Western Electric (Lucent Tech) for 35 years until his retirement. He later became a Marshall at Shamrock Golf Course, then a school bus driver for the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District.
He was an avid motorcycle rider with his wife and many friends and MoJo Riders. He loved golf, bowling and playing poker he also enjoyed coaching his children and grandchildren in their many sports. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, great–grandfather, and friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Etta Madden.
Survivors include dauther Cindi Rollins, and husband, Greg; son Jeff Madden and wife, Debi; daughter Christy Vinson and husband, Loren Dean; son Gene Madden Jr. and wife, Cindy; grandchildren, Michelle Shipp and husband, Kevin, Alexandra Madden, Caroline and Bianca Madden, Megan Byington and David Dunlap; great–grandchild Parker Shipp; and two sisters, Anne Thomas and husband, Ray, and Linda Fountain.

MARY ROSE RANALLO
Mary Rose Ranallo passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, into the arms of her heavenly father on Oct. 19, 2006.
She was born in Russellville, Ala., on Feb. 19, 1908 to Josephine (Calia) and Rosario Gagliano. She grew up in Kansas City. She and her husband, Vito, were married nearly 75 years.
Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, brother and sister.
Survivors are daughters, Pauline Martin (Rick), Josephine Biondo (Marion), Barbara Hoffman (Larry) and Mary Vee Ranallo; nine grandchildren; 12 great– grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 23, 2006 at Our Lady of Presentation Catholic Church in Lee’s Summit. Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006 with a 4 p.m. rosary at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church 130 N.W. Murray Road.

EDNA ESTHER MARIE BROCKMAN
Edna Esther Marie Brockman, 91, of Cole Camp, Mo., died on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006 at Good Samaritan Care Center in Cole Camp. She was born on Feb 11, 1915 at Douglas, Okla., a daughter of Henry and Augusta (Lujen) Schnakenberg.
On Feb. 12, 1939 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Cole Camp, she was united in marriage to Arpie Brockman, who preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 2003.
She is survived by two daughters, Beverly Otten and her husband, Jim, of Cole Camp, and Nancy Polomsky and her husband, Bill, of Lee’s Summit; four grandchildren, Brent Otten, Terri De Simone and her husband, Joe, Mark Polomsky and his wife, Angela, and Charles Polomsky and his wife, Kate; and nine great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Riley, Ashley, Anna and Lauren Polomsky, Samantha, Tyler and Jillian Belvin, and Sophia De Simone.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Paula Denker and Erma Schnakenberg.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, 2006 at the Fox Funeral Home in Cole Camp, with the Rev. Todd Kollbaum officiating; burial in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Cole Camp.
The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Benton County Hospice, good Samaritan Care Center, or Trinity Cemetery in care of the Fox Funeral Home, PO Box 37, Cole Camp, MO 65325.

ANNA J. RICHIE
Anna J. Richie, 71, of Lee’s Summit, passed away on Monday, Oct. 2, 2006 at Kansas City Hospice House.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday Oct. 6, 2006 at the Langsford Funeral Home. Visitation will take place from 8 to 10 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Anna was born on Feb. 18, 1935 in Talltick, Ark. She worked at Western Electric Lucent Tech from 1964 to 1990 when she retired. She also worked for the Lee’s Summit R–7 School District from 1993 to 1994.
Anna was an avid bowler, loved to fish, play bingo and go to the boats. Most of all she loved being with her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Homer V. Richie; parents; and one sister. She is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Hale and Melinda Talley; two-step daughters, Karen Roy and Susan Palmer; five brothers; one sister; nine grandchildren; and six great –grandchildren.
