Gladys Moore
Gladys M. (Terry) Moore, 81, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Saturday, November 17, 2007 at home. Gladys was born September 17, 1926 in Newkirk, Okla., daughter of Cliff and Emma Terry. She married Charles Richard Moore on June 11, 1954. Gladys was a machine operator at Whitaker Cable before retiring some years later. She was also a member of the Mosby Baptist Church. Gladys is survived by her four children and their families, Rick Moore, Sharon and Mike Long, Rodney and Marilyn Moore, and Shelley and Rodney Baker, all of Excelsior Springs, Mo. She is preceded in death by her parents, Emma and Cliff Terry; her husband, Charles Moore; two grandsons, Richard Moore and James Derek; several brothers, James, Clarence, Delmar and Junior Terry; two sisters, Fannie Kilgore and Dorothy Wade. Funeral services for Gladys will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at the Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Visitation will also be held at the funeral home between 6 and 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2007. Gladys will be laid to rest along side her husband in Crown Hill Cemetery, Excelsior Springs, Mo. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations be made to the American Heart Association.
Hilda "Bonnie" Allen
Hilda "Bonnie" Allen, 94, Lawson, Mo., passed away Friday, November 30, 2007 at the Cameron Regional Medical Center. Bonnie was born on April 15, 1913, the daughter of Harry and Lela (Gordan) Marshall. She was married to Warren Allen on September 5, 1934. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1970. Bonnie grew up Methodist and had attended Lawson United Methodist Church for several years. She was then baptized and joined the Elmira Baptist Church. She loved her many hobbies such as sewing, crocheting, quilting, embroidery, gardening and her flowers. Survivors include four daughters, Bonita Allen, Lawson, Dixie Johnson, Lawson, Georgia Haag, Olpe, Kans., and Ellen Riddle, Kansas City, Mo.; 15 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, Warren, she was preceded in death by one son, Rex Allen, and two sisters, Avis Ewing and Dorothy White. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 3, 2007, at the Elmira Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2007, at the Polley Funeral Home, Lawson, Mo.
Harvey W. Isenhour
Harvey W. Isenhour, 66, of Missouri City, Mo., passed away, March 3, 2008 at his home with his wife by his side. He was born on August 29, 1941 near Liberty, Mo., to James Edward and Joyce Arlene (Vest) Isenhour. Harvey was married to Helen Jennings on June 2, 1962 in Boonville, Mo. He was retired from General Motors where he worked for 34 years. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Helen Isenhour; a son, Jerry Isenhour and wife, Dana, Independence, Mo.; two daughters, Doris Selle and husband, Joe, Missouri City, Mo., and Vicky Klein and husband, Bobby, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; two brothers, Harold Isenhour, Orrick, Mo., and Wayne Isenhour, Vibbard, Mo.; three grandchildren, Chad and Troy Isenhour and Mikayla Selle, as well as other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be Saturday, March 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Polley Funeral Home of Excelsior Springs, Mo. Cremation. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Diabetes Foundation.
Henrietta Newton
Henrietta Bessie Newton, age 82, of Rayville, Mo., passed away Monday evening, March 10, 2008 at the Lawson Manor in Lawson, Mo. Born August 6, 1925 in Davenport, Iowa, she was the daughter of George and Bessie Brown Norris. She was married to Harold Leslie Newton who preceded her in death January 4, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Benjamin Arthur Robinson; a granddaughter, Tammy Lynn Robinson; one sister, Betty Bennett; and two brothers, Alvin Norris and Junior Norris. Surviving are six children, Darlene Carver, Fremont, Ohio, Charles Robinson, Okla., Sharon King Rayville, Danny Robinson, Cole Camp, Bonita McCauley, Polo, and Barbara Newsome, Cole Camp; 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Newton worked for Whitaker Cable for several years as an assembler. She enjoyed embroidery, was the best cook ever and especially enjoyed planting flowers and yardwork. Graveside services will be held Friday afternoon, March 14, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the Crowley Cemetery at Rayville. There will be no public visitation. Arrangements under the direction of the Polley Funeral Home of Excelsior Springs.
Helen V. Rimmer
Helen Valentine Rimmer, age 96, of Gladstone, Mo., formerly of Excelsior Springs, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at the Riverside Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Riverside, Mo. The daughter of Frank F. and Lorraine G. (Craven) Bollinger, she was born February 14, 1912 on a farm located three miles from Elkhorn, Mo. On April 17, 1944, in Phoenix, Ariz., she was married to Melvin Eugene Rimmer, who preceded her in death April 4, 1976. She was also preceded in death by a son, Norman David Rimmer, on March 2, 2008, and one brother, Arthur Bollinger. She is survived by a son, Howard Rimmer, and a daughter, Sheryl Davis, both of Gladstone; two brothers, Floyd Bollinger, Phoenix, Ariz., and Franklin Bollinger, Jr., Gladstone; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; four nieces and two nephews. Mrs. Rimmer received her education in Ray County country schools and attended Richmond High School. She worked for the Lane Sewing Factory in Excelsior Springs for several years and later for the Nellie Don factory in North Kansas City. For over 40 years she had been a resident of Excelsior Springs. She enjoyed sewing and tending to her flowers. In earlier years she attended Rock Falls Baptist Church and later was a member of Flack Memorial Christian Union Church. Graveside services will be held Friday, March 28, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. The Rev. Randy Mitchell will officiate. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Polley Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St. Luke's Hospice.
Jeffrey Baker
Jeffrey E. Baker, 43, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away February 20, 2008 at the Liberty, Hospital. Jeffrey was born on December 25, 1964 in Lincoln, Ill., the son of Earl and Una (Owens) Baker. On July 24, 1993 he married Laurie (Dodd) Baker, who survives of the home. Besides his wife, Jeff is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Cremation. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2008, at the Everlasting Life Church of God, 104 Main, Excelsior Springs, Mo. James A. Cox
James A. Cox, 85, Lawson, Mo., passed away on Friday, November 30, 2007 at the Shirkey Nursing and Rehab Center, Richmond, Mo. James was born on August 3, 1922, the son of Earl and Ida (Nolker) Cox. He was married to Dorothy Smith on August 25, 1952. She preceded him in death in May 1995. James was a member of the United Christian and Presbyterian Church and the VFW Post #6278, both in Lawson, Mo. Survivors include one son, Jim Cox and his wife, Kathy, Lawson, Mo., two daughters, Mary Kramer and her husband, Dan, Kansas City, Mo., and Judy Harrison and her husband, Don, Richmond, Mo.; one brother, Lynn Cox, North Kansas City, Mo.; four grandchildren, four step granddaughters and one great grandchild. Besides his parents and wife, Dorothy, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and John Henry, and one sister, Irene. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at the United Christian and Presbyterian Church Lawson, Mo. There is no family visitation, however, friends may call anytime after noon until 8 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2007 at the Polley Funeral Home, Lawson, Mo. Burial will be in the Old Union Cemetery, Lawson, Mo. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Lawson Fire & Rescue.
John R. Pettus
John Richard Pettus, 80, of Lee's Summit, formerly of Richmond and Henrietta, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2008 in Jefferson Health Care in Lee's Summit. He was born September 27, 1927 in Henrietta, the son of Joseph Lee and Augusta Susan (Delameter) Pettus. John enjoyed coloring, painting and reading the Bible. He loved to worship and was a witness to others. He was a former member of the Henrietta Methodist Church where he had served as janitor in his earlier years. Surviving are two sisters, Rev. Norma Judd Dumas, Lee's Summit, and Alice Ann Davis, Waterville, NY; numerous nieces and nephews including his guardian, Susan Mullin, Warsaw, and a special foster son, Bob Flagler, Odessa. He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Ruth Miller, Mary Smith, Margaret Pettus and Juanita Pettus. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Sunny Slope Cemetery in Richmond. Visitation will be one hour prior at the Polley Funeral Home in Richmond. There will be a memorial service on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the Jefferson Health Care in Lee's Summit. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Jefferson Health Care Activity Department.
Kaye Ahart
Kaye Ahart, 67, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Thursday, April 3, 2008 at the Valley Manor and Rehabilitation Center, Excelsior Springs, Mo. Kaye was born on May 30, 1940 in Rayville, Mo., the daughter of Walter and Theta (Hartman) Zirjacks. She married Bill Ahart who preceded her in death on March 9, 1996. She worked as a hairdresser and was partners in the Supreme Beauty Salon, Excelsior Springs, Mo. She was a member of the Salem Christian Union Church, Excelsior Springs, Mo. Survivors include two sons, Jackie Smith, Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Russell Millsap, Arkansas; one sister, Fern Arbuckle, Excelsior Springs, Mo., and one brother, Ival Zirjacks, Liberty, Mo.; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Cremation. Memorial visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 7, 2008 at the Polley Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs, Mo. Graveside comittal services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at the Crown Hill Cemetery, Excelsior Springs, Mo.
Kathy Lamson
Kathy D. Lamson, 50, Camden, Mo., passed away Friday, February 29, 2008 at her home. Kathy was born September 27, 1957 to Arlin F. and Bertha F. (Patrick) Shaw in Independence, Mo. She is survived by long time companion Mike Dunwoodie of the home; father, Arlin F. Shaw, Buckner, Mo.; sisters, Linda Shaw, Sugar Creek, Mo.; Lois Short, Bates City, Mo.; brother, Chuck Shaw, Higginsville, Mo.; daughters, Neoma Seutter and Abby Sander, both of Lexington, Mo.; and 11 grandchildren. Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, Bertha F. Shaw. Memorial services are scheduled for 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at the Polley Funeral Home in Richmond, Mo. Cremation.
Leneve Clasen
Leneve June Clasen, 65, passed into eternity on Sunday, March 2, 2008 at her home in Lawson, Mo., where she had been a life long resident of the community. She was born August 5, 1942 in Lawson to Raymond Roger and Nancy Ruth (Rogers) Peterson. She is survived by her husband of 23 years, David Clasen; her mother, Nancy Ruth Peterson, Lawson, Mo.; a daughter, Shannon Stroud and husband, Gary, and their children, Jesse and Leigha, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; two sons, Pastor Kirk Baker and wife, Kristi, and their children, Kati, Stefani, and Coleman, Lawson, Mo., and Brent Baker and wife, Nannette, and their children, Ashley, Paige, and Brock, also of Lawson, Mo.; two step-daughters, Jennifer West and husband, Jesse, and their children, Rachel, Haley and Olivia, Leawood, Kans., and Julie Jackson and husband, Gerald, and their children, Tyler and Sydney, Smithville, Mo.; a step-son, Gerald Clasen and son, Brandon, Smithville, Mo.; a sister, Becky Hartman and husband, Sam, Lawson, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father. Leneve worked in customer service much of her vocational career, most recently with Cole-Harford for 18 years. She had a passion for music and served as organist and pianist for the Lawson Methodist Church for 52 years until her passing. She was a member of the Circle of Friends and also served as president of P.E.O., Chapter AO. She enjoyed sewing, crafts and painting, but her favorite pastime was enjoying her children and grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lawson Baptist Church in Lawson, Mo., with memorial services at the church on Thursday, March 6 at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the Lawson Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice and Learning Lighthouse Preschool of Lawson, Mo. Arrangements are in charge of Polley Funeral Home of Lawson, Mo.
Larry Eugene Embley
Larry Eugene Embley, Sr., 65, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Sunday, January 27, 2008 at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Larry was born on December 23, 1942 to Elbert F. and Betty (Dutcher) Dodson in Kansas City, Mo. He is survived by daughter, Laura Feebeck and husband, Terry, LaCygne, Kans.; son, Larry E. Embley, Jr. and wife, Lynn, Olathe, Kans.; son, Garry D. Embley, Sr. and wife, Peggy, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; daughter, Tina M. Bridges; daughter, Shelly A. Embley, Holt, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Larry is preceded in death by his parents. Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2008 at the Buffalo Cemetery in Buffalo, Kans. Visitation will be held between 7 and 9 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2008 at the Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, Mo. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
John Richard Zismer
John Richard Zismer, 51, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at the Liberty Hospital, Liberty, Mo. Mr. Zismer was born on December 17, 1956 in Kansas City, Mo., the son of John Donald and Wilma Jean (Porter) Zismer. On June 24, 1995 in Liberty, Mo., he married Sherry (McPeak-Barton). He was employed by Ebling Company, Grainger, Olathe Battery Plant for many years and retired from General Motors. He also farmed for Rhodus Farms all of his life. He enjoyed farming and motorcycle riding, especially with John Deere and Harley Davidson. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Excelsior Springs, Mo., The Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.), and U.A.W. Local #31. Survivors include his wife, Sherry, of the home; his mother, Wilma Zismer, Liberty, Mo.; his father, John Donald Zismer and wife, Betty, Yuma, Ariz.; three step-children, Dustin Montgomery Gray and wife, Amber, Liberty, Mo., Amanda Barton and Tim, Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Jessica Barton, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; one sister, Debra Zismer, Sanford, Fla.; one brother, Jeffery Donald Zismer, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; seven grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2008, at the Providence Baptist Church, 12206 N. Stark Avenue. near Liberty, Mo. John Hines Wuster, 66, Lawson, Mo., passed away Friday, December 28, 2007 at his home. John was born on February 1, 1941 to Joseph L. and Virginia C. (Hines) Wuster in Richmond, Mo. On February 16, 1962, John married Beverly Sue Claypole, also in Richmond, Mo. John was a member of the Richmond Baptist Church. John is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Sue Wuster, of the home; daughter, Vickie Alderman and husband, Larry, Kearney, Mo.; daughter, Wendy Donovan and husband, Cody, Richmond, Mo.; grandson, Collin Alderman, Kearney, Mo.; grandchildren, Leah Sue, Sidney Lee and Mackenzie Joe Donovan, all of Richmond, Mo.; brother, David L. Wuster, Belton, Mo.; mother-in-law, Reba Claypole, Richmond, Mo.; one niece and two nephews. John is preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Bailey Robertson. Funeral services for John will be at 12:00 p.m. Monday, December 31, 2007 at the Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Visitation will be held one hour prior, also at the Polley Funeral Home. John I. Parsons
John Irvin Parsons, age 80, of Mosby, Mo., passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at Excelsior Springs Care Center and Rehabilitation Center. Born August 15, 1927 in Cassville, Mo., he was the son of Henry and Lillian Bryant Parsons. On February 29, 1949 at the Mosby Baptist Church in Mosby, Mo., he was married to Iona Mae Powell, who preceded him in death January 29, 1975. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Mitchell Parsons and Bob Parsons; two sisters, Helen Lockamy and Dorothy Hodges and his beloved dog, Wicket. Survivors include his son, John Garrett Parsons and wife, Christina, Excelsior Springs; his daughter, Jandi Gayle Parsons, Excelsior Springs; five grandchildren, Ashlee Raw (Johnathon), John Garrett Parsons II and Tisha Pope, all of Excelsior Springs, and Dylan Silkwood and Shianna Silkwood, both of Orrick; two great-grandchildren, Trista and Dalton Raw; two sisters, Patricia Sutton, Mosby, and Virginia Due, Excelsior Springs; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Parsons attended school at the old Greenwood School at Prathersville. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army. He was employed for 24 years at Rival Manufacturing. He worked for the City of Mosby in the water department, where he retired from in 1990. He was a life-long resident of the Mosby area. John enjoyed fishing, picking berries, telling stories and playing cards, but most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Woodland Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the Mosby Baptist Church in Mosby, Mo. Military honors will be conducted at the church following the services. Inurnment will be at a later date in Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Polley Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs. Larry St. John
Larry Wayne St. John, age 51, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Friday, February 29, 2008 at Liberty Hospital. Born September 26, 1956 in Excelsior Springs, Mo., he was the son of Donald Andrew and Joan Marie Ballinger St. John. On December 1, 1979 in Excelsior Springs he was united in marriage to Denice Carolyn Bishop, who preceded him in death September 9, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his father. Surviving are his son, Eric St. John, Excelsior Springs; his mother, Joan St. John, Excelsior Springs; one sister, Pamela Jones and her husband, Craig, Excelsior Springs; three brothers, Donnie St. John, Wood Heights, and Mark St. John and Tommy St. John, both of Excelsior Springs; also several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and his extended family and friends. Larry was a 1975 graduate of Excelsior High School. Following graduation he worked for a short time for Whitaker Cable before going to work at Smithville for Clay County as an irrigation specialist and had worked for them for 28 years. He was the Assistant Superintendent for Clay County Parks and Recreation and had been involved in the building of Paradise Point golf course. He enjoyed fishing, camping and being outdoors, including gardening and doing yard work. He was a member of the Christian Science Church. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 7, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. No visitation is scheduled. Burial will be at a later date in the Polley Cemetery.
Mary Dillen
Mary N. Dillen, 95, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Sunday, February 17, 2008, at the Excelsior Springs Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was born January 18, 1913 in Hominy, Okla., to Minnie Ethel and Norris Letell Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Garth Dillen, son, Freddie Ray Stockwell, and brother, Lester Church, step sister, Refa Kilgore, and a step brother, Cecil Hutchings. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Todd, of the home; grandchildren, Rick Todd, Orrick, Mo., Cindy Todd, Sarasota, Fla., John Stockwell, Canton, Miss., Jean Bailey and husband, Paul, Liberty Mo., Dan Stockwell and wife, Deb, Zanesville, Ohio, and one great grandchild; half sister, Mildred Vermillion and husband, John, Kansas City, Mo., and daughter-in-law, Lea Stockwell, Canton, Ms. Other survivors include two nieces of Excelsior Springs and special niece and caregivers, Kathryn Lewis and husband, Charles, North Kansas City, Mo. She also leaves her special granddaughter, Chris Gorman, Monitou Springs, Colo.; special caregivers Norma Griffey and Jackie Collins and her beloved canine companion,"Doll Baby". She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Excelsior Springs, PEO Chapter CJ, and the Excelsior Springs Hospital Auxiliary. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to the Good Shepherd Hospice, 7611 State Line, Suite 200, Kansas City, Mo. 64111. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 21, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Excelsior Springs, Mo.
