PERRY - Elsie Pearl Gibbs, 99, of Perry, died at 11 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at Audrain Medical Center in Mexico.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at St. William Catholic Church. Father Don Antweiler will officiate. Burial will be at St. Andrews Cemetery in Stoutsville.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of services today at the church.
The Bienhoff Funeral Home in Perry is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Gibbs was born March 24, 1903, in Stoutsville to Samuel David and Mary Ellen Whelan Pierceall.
She was married to Harold Jefferson Gibbs on March 1, 1924, at Indian Creek Catholic Church. He preceded her in death Oct. 30, 1980.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Lorna and Ralph Elkins of Independence; one grandson, Paul Laratta of Polo; and one great-granddaughter, Tiffany Laratta of Polo.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert Pierceall, Norbert Pierceall and Josephe Pierceall; and three sisters, Ethel Carman, Maggie Sandifer and Beatrice Bevell.
Hazel Maxine Atkins

SAVOY, Ill. - Hazel Maxine Long Atkins, 87, of Champaign, Ill., died at 8:25 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Ill.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at Faith United Methodist Church in Champaign. The Rev. Dr. James Rhea will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of services Friday at the church.
Morgan Memorial Home in Savoy, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Atkins was born May 31, 1915, in Hannibal to Charles Albert and Mary Belle Vaught Long.
She was married to Clinton Paul Atkins on June 7, 1936. He preceded her in death April 22, 2000.
Survivors include three children, Vincent Paul Atkins, Clinton Craig Atkins and Mary Atkins Hassinger, all of Champaign; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one grandson.
Mrs. Atkins graduated from Hannibal-LaGrange College in 1934. She received three degrees in music education from the University of Illinois: a bachelor of science degree in 1942, a master of science degree in 1961 and an ADV degree in 1964. She taught in the Champaign School District from 1959 to 1966. She was the math consultant K-12 for the Unit 4 schools from 1966 to 1968 and the director of the gifted program from 1969 to 1972. She was a visiting professor in math at the University of Illinois. She established and directed the Children's Cultural Center from 1969 to 1971.
Mrs. Atkins was one of the original founders and owners of Vintage Antiques. She was the author of numerous articles, publications and books, the composer of many songs and an accomplished artist. She was a charter member of Faith United Methodist Church in Champaign. She was an active member of Florence Northcott Guild, Chapter AR of the PEO, Sigma Alpha Iota, honorary music fraternity, Mozart Music Club, Tuesday Morning Music Club, National Retired Teachers Association, Fortnightly Club and the Alliance Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution.

TROY - Earleign Rinke, 79, of Ferguson and formerly of Lincoln County, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at her residence.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at McCoy & Blossom Funeral Home in Troy. Father Tom Wissler will officiate. Burial will be at the Troy City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Rinke was born Sept. 30, 1923, in Moscow Mills to Earl and Myrtle Borgelt Jones.
She was married to Robert L. (Bob) Rinke on April 23, 1949, in Troy. He survives.
Other survivors include brothers-in-law, Joe (Rose) Rinke of St. Louis; sisters-in-law, Lorraine (John) Stamelos of St. Peters, and Loretta Gutting and Donna Rinke, both of St. Louis; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Rinke had been a homemaker. She enjoyed shopping and collecting antiques. She and her husband traveled throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in care of the funeral home.
Robert R. (Bobby) Williams

HANNIBAL - Robert R. (Bobby) Williams, 45, of Hannibal, died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at his home.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. The Rev. Charles Emmett Hale III will officiate.
There will be no visitation.
Mr. Williams was born Aug. 19, 1957, in Jacksonville, Ill., to Albert and Wyoma Porter Williams Sr.
He was married to Arletha Mayfield. She survives.
Other survivors include one stepdaughter, Heidi Mayfield of Hannibal; one special aunt, Willetta Turner of Hannibal; four brothers, Albert Williams Jr., Donald Williams and Crawford Williams, all of Hannibal, and Richard Green of Rock Island, Ill.; nine sisters, Helen Green of Quincy, Ill., Karen Williams and Sharon Collier, both of Hannibal, Hazel Brophy of Galesburg, Ill., Wanda Hinton of Peoria, Ill., Charolette Mayfield, Wanda Burrage and Margaret Faison, all of Davenport, Iowa, and Mary Holland of Monroe City; three grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; and one sister.
Mr. Williams was well-known and well-liked. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a member of the Allen Chapel Church.

MONTGOMERY CITY - Lester Brown Hopkins, 87, of Louisiana and formerly of Montgomery City, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Pike County Memorial Hospital in Louisiana.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at the First Baptist Church in Montgomery City. The Rev. Jim Guffie will officiate. Burial will be at the Eolia Cemetery in Eolia.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City.
Mr. Hopkins was born June 14, 1915, in Corso to John Milton and Orpha Omega Brown Hopkins.
He was married to Eleanor Grace Dandridge on June 25, 1940, in Bowling Green. She survives.
Other survivors include six children, Donald Eugene Hopkins of Jackson, John Edward Hopkins of Eolia, Bonnie Sue Phillips of Greenwood, Ronald Alan Hopkins and Donna Marie Rivera, both of Troy and Roger Hopkins of Louisiana; 16 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Hopkins.

TROY - Thelma Brinkman, 79, of Wellsville, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at Gamma Road Lodge.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Kemper-Marsh-Millard Funeral Home-Troy Chapel. Burial will be at Troy City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Brinkman was born May 3, 1923, in Walnut Ridge, Ark., to Cecil and Osie Bell Barnhill.
She was married to Alvin Thomas Smith in 1943. He preceded her in death in 1944. She was married to Henry Brinkman in 1948. He preceded her in death in January 1986.
Survivors include one son, Alvin Brinkman of Moscow Mills; one brother, Jack Barnhill of Concord, Calif.; two sisters, Ruth Harper of Warrenton and Vera Self of Concord, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Wendy Brumit and Tom Brinkman of Frisco, Texas.
Mrs. Brinkman was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, in Roselle, Ill.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

PALMYRA - Russell O. (Bum) Filkins Jr., 75, of Palmyra, died at 7:40 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra. The Rev. Dewayne Larenson will officiate.
There will be no visitation.
The Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Filkins was born April 15, 1927, in Little Falls, N.Y., to Russell O. Sr. and Mayme Weaver Filkins.
He was married to Dorothy O. Shannon on Jan. 17, 1946, in Seattle, Wash. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Gary Filkins and wife, Trudy, of Topeka, Kan., and Dennis Filkins and wife, Fran, of Kansas City, Kan.; four grandchildren, Dawn Younghans, Scott and Amanda Filkins and Amy Elmer; two stepdaughters, Melanie Fincham and Tia Sampson; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, David M. Filkins; his parents; and one sister, Helen Candella.
Mr. Filkins worked at Bleigh Construction for many years. He retired in the early 1990s. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

LOUISIANA - Ada Verneal Burkhead, 91, of Ottawa, Ill., and formerly of Louisiana, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at the La Salle County Nursing Home in Ottawa.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana. The Rev. Rick Mitchell will officiate. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery near Louisiana.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Burkhead was born June 21, 1911, in Pearl, Ill., to Frank and Mattie Peacock Wood. She was married to Everett (Jack) Burkhead on May 5, 1930, in Louisiana. He preceded her in death June 3, 1998.
Survivors include one son, Everett (Gene) Burkhead of Schertz, Texas; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alfa Ehret of Seneca, Ill.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Delores Ann Burkhead; two sons, David Ray Burkhead, who died at birth, and Maurice Dean Burkhead; one sister, Odessa Spencer; and three brothers, Lowell Lee Wood, Ivle Wood and Wilbert Wood.

CLARENCE - Dale Chittum, 73, of Clarence, died at 12:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
Funeral services were at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Clarence United Methodist Church. Burial was at Maplewood Cemetery. Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Chittum was born June 14, 1929, in Brookfield to Alfred C. and Vivian L. Bingham Chittum.
He was married to Barbara June Hutton on Feb. 14, 1954, in Clarence. She survives.
Also surviving are three children, Richard Alan Chittum of Columbia, Russell Dean Chittum of Clarence and Diana Kaye O'Neill of League City, Texas; six grandchildren, Nieccole Hilliard, Matthew Chittum, Josh Chittum, Megan Chittum, Kelli Chittum and Kerri Chittum; and one brother, Brownie L. Chittum of Chillicothe.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Melvin Chittum.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was in retail grocery business for 40 years in Clarence. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church. He was chairman of the board of the Clarence Rural Rental Housing.
