KAHOKA, Mo. - Dean Edmondson, 64, of Kahoka, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, in his home.
He was born Sept. 9, 1940, in Fox City in Clark County, Mo., the son of Earl A. and Minnie Nimmo Edmondson.
He married
Linda Malone in Kahoka on April 11, 1964. She survives.
Additional survivors include: his mother-in-law, June Kinney of Dallas; two sons, Brent Edmondson and his wife, Jamie, of Kahoka, and Mark Edmondson of Hillsboro, Mo.; two grandchildren, Tony and Chelsea Edmondson of Kahoka; Colton and Caleb Hammond of Kahoka, who were like grandchildren to him; a brother, Glenn Edmondson and his wife, Pam, of Phoenix; two sisters, Josephine Woods and her husband, Bud, of Arcadia, Fla., and Burnadean Balzer of Canton, Mo; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Earl Woods of Nauvoo, Ill., Callie Edmondson of Moody, Mo., Nettie Belliveau of Corvallis, Ore., Dorothy Alvis of Alexandria, Mo., Carroll and Virginia Whiteaker, Betty Rosencrans, John and Karen Malone, Randy Malone and his fianc/, Kathy Parinello, Jerry and Joan Malone, and Bill and Martha Porter, all of Kahoka, Edith and Jack Stewart of Hillsboro, Patsy Hoyt of Fort Madison, and Billie Hatfield of Wayland, Mo.; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; fathers-in-law and mothers-in-law, Clyde and Remah Whiteaker and Ted and Dorothy Malone; four brothers: Kenneth, Donald, Lawrence and Bev Edmondson; a sister, Dorothy Woods; and three brothers-in-law, Jerry Balzer, Charles Rosencrans and Gary Whiteaker.
He attended school in Clark County and later received additional vo-tech training.
He was a United States Army veteran, serving in Germany in 1964 to 1965.
He was also a former member of the Kahoka Lions Club.
He was dedicated to scouting and had been very involved with the Boy Scouts through the years and for several years was Cub Master. He had been employed at Morse Rubber (now Metso Minerals) in Keokuk for 18 years and later worked for the City of Kahoka, operating a lawn mower repair service during that time until he was no longer able to work due to his health.
He was also a talented woodworker and had sold his products at various craft shows and flea markets throughout the Tri-State Area.
He loved to hunt and fish. His family was his reason for living. He was a familiar figure around the community in his scooter and enjoyed the friendships he made in the businesses he frequented and over the many cups of coffee he drank at the restaurants in town.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka, with the Rev. Gary Payne officiating.
Burial, with full military rites, will be in Kahoka cemetery .
Visitation is Friday at the funeral home, with family receiving friends 6 to 8 pm.
Memorials may be made to The Boy Scouts (National Jamboree Trip) for Brent, Tony and Josh or to Cub Scout Pack # 145.
Thelma A. 'Tim' Martin
KAHOKA, Mo. - Thelma A. "Tim" Martin, 88, of Kahoka, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, in Keokuk Area Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka.
Marilyn Blanche Hesse Hales
May 9, 1931 - April 15, 2009
WYACONDA, Mo. - Marilyn Blanche Hesse Hales, 77, of Wyaconda, Mo., died Wednesday, April 15, 2009, in Luther Manor Nursing Home, Hannibal, Mo., where she had been a resident the past several months.
She was born on the family farm northeast of Wyaconda on May 9, 1931, the daughter of Carl Calvin and Mabel Hardman Hesse.
She was united in marriage to Larry Arthur Hales on Aug. 27, 1950, at the United Methodist Parsonage in Luray, Mo.
Survivors include her husband, Larry, recently of Luther Manor Village in Hannibal; two sons, Randy R. Hales of Rural Retreat, Va., and Gregory L. Hales and his wife, Cathy, of Maywood, Mo.; a daughter, Sheila R. (Hales) Swafford and her husband, Donald, of Novinger, Mo.; a sister, Edna Lucille Beckett of Kansas City, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Melissa Swafford-Davis of Buckner, Mo., Jennifer Brownell of Novinger, Rebecca Neel of LaPorte, Texas, Kristopher Hales and Katrina Hales, both of Rural Retreat, and Victoria Hales and Austin Hales, both of Maywood; two great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She graduated from Wyaconda C-1 School and attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman State University) at Kirksville.
She was a farm wife all of her married
life. She also worked outside the home as a newspaper proofreader, receptionist/bookkeeper in a doctor's office, bank teller, school secretary and life insurance sales. In addition, she was a private piano teacher for 55 years.
Marilyn was a life long resident of Wyaconda and was deeply involved and devoted to the community. For more than 40 years she was organist and Sunday School teacher at the Wyaconda United Methodist Church. She also served as scorekeeper at all basketball games for Wyaconda C-1 School for more than 40 years. She was a member of Royal Neighbors of America and had been a sales person for that company for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, quilting and crocheting. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wilson Funeral Home, Kahoka, with the Rev. Beryl Cragg officiating.
Burial will follow in the Wyaconda cemetery.
Visitation is today at the funeral home, with family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Wyaconda United Methodist Church.
George E. Shibley
Feb. 3, 1930 - April 29, 2009
CABOT, Ark. - George E. Shibley, 79, of Cabot, Ark., formerly of Gorin, Mo., and Keokuk, died Wednesday, April 29, 2009, in the Cabot Manor Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center.
He was on Feb. 3, 1930, in Gorin, the son of John E. and Lorena F. (Melany) Shibley.
He graduated from Gorin High School in 1949.
He joined the United States Army in 1952 and served in the Korean War with the Army Engineers attached to the United States Air Force.
He was employed by Midwest Carbide in Keokuk for 37 years. Upon retirement, he and his wife Margaret moved to Arkansas, first to Horseshoe Bend and finally to Cabot.
He was a member of the 16th Section United Methodist Church in Austin, Ark.
He also was a lifetime member of the VFW in Hamilton, Ill. He was a member of the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union, American Legion, Kiwanis Club and the Honorary Police of Horseshoe Bend.
Until his illness, he was an avid bowler, golfer and square dancer.
He was a fun loving person.
Survivors include: his wife, Margaret (Maggie) Shibley of the home; daughters, Teresa, and her husband, Steve Berge, of Shoreview, Minn., and Jann and her husband, Paul Lowry, of Lakeland, Fla.; a sister, Sue (Paul) Hoskinson and a brother, John P. Shibley; grandchildren, Joe (Joanna), Angela (Dustin Ross) Lowry, Andrew (Jenny Kleppe), and Eric and Kelly Berge; great-grandsons, Kyler and Ethan Lowry and Logan Ross; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, loyal family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Jo Bannister; and four nephews, Sloan, Tim, Bryan and Jon Hoskinson.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Gorin Christian Church, with Pastor Jim Campbell and Paul Lowry officiating.
Military rites were performed by the Wallace W. Gillespie Memorial VFW Post 4958 of Memphis.
Burial was in the Gorin cemetery.

Mary Agnes Heinze

BELTSVILE, Md. - Mary Agnes Heinze, 95, of Beltsville, Md., died Jan. 6, 2009, in Maryland.
She was born on Jan. 20, 1913, in central Missouri, the daughter of Herbert and Virginia Pearl James Summers.
She had been married
to Peter H. Heinze of Kahoka, Mo., for 60 years at his death.
A graveside memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Paul cemetery in Kahoka, with the Rev. Kenneth Beckmann officiating.
Family will receive friends following the service at a luncheon at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled locally by Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka.
Verna Marie (Seward) South
Nov. 14, 1923 - May 1, 2009
CHESTERFIELD, Mo. - Verna Marie (Seward) South, 85, of Chesterfield, Mo., died Friday, May 1, 2009, in St. Andrews Hospice, Chesterfield, after suffering a stroke.
She was born on Nov. 14, 1923, the daughter of Lloyd and Marie Seward of Revere, Mo.
Survivors include her husband Richard South, of Chesterfield.
Services were scheduled this morning at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka.
Burial was in the Revere cemetery, Revere, Mo.
Visitation was held prior to this morning's service.
Memorials are suggested to the Revere Community Center or the Revere Fire Department.
