Harold 'Butch' Mayer
KAHOKA, Mo. – Harold “Butch” Mayer, 79, of rural Kahoka, Mo., died Saturday, June 10, 2017, at his home.
Butch was born Oct. 27, 1937, in Kahoka, a son of Joseph and Margaret Spiker Mayer.
Survivors include three sons, Eric Mayer, Kim Mayer and Steven Mayer, all of rural Kahoka.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in the parking lot at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka. It is the family’s wish that friends bring their vintage and classic automobiles for a car show in his honor at that time.
Deeanna Bennett, 70, Kahoka, Mo.
KAHOKA, Mo. – Deeanna Sue Bennett, 70, of Kahoka, Mo., passed away Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016, at Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, following a battle with cancer.
Deeanna was born Aug. 26, 1946, in Keokuk, the only child of Nobert W. “Bunch” and Dorothy Arnold Bennett.
Survivors include her son, Cory D. Losey of Farmington.
There will be no services or visitation.
Arrangements have been handled by Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka.
Sandra Dobson, 79, Hannibal, Mo.
HANNIBAL, Mo. – Sandra Sue Dobson, 79, of Hannibal, Mo., passed away, at 6:29 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Sandra was born Sept. 16, 1937, in Keokuk, to Morris and Zula Cooper Dimond.
Survivors include three children.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at James O’Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. The Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Dorothy Webster, 87, Kahoka, Mo.
KAHOKA, Mo. – Dorothy P. Webster, 87, of Kahoka, Mo., died Sunday, April 2, 2017, at Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka.

Clyde Smith Jr., 81, Luray, Mo.
LURAY, Mo. – Clyde M. Smith Jr., 81, of Luray, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at his home.
Clyde was born June 11, 1935, at his parents’ home in Clark County, Mo., the only child of Clyde Sr. and Emma Oilar Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Betty of the home; and five children, including locally, Steve (Kathy) Smith of Kahoka, Mo., Roger (Tammy) Smith of Keokuk and Dennis Smith of Luray.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka, with Pastor Shawn McAfee officiating. Burial and military rites will follow in Kahoka cemetery.
Friends may call after 9 a.m. Thursday at Wilson Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. followed by a public Masonic service at 8 p.m.
DeWitt Shuck, 101, La Jolla, Calif.
La JOLLA, Calif. – DeWitt Shuck passed peacefully on Jan. 10, 2017, at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, Calif., with family at his side. He was 101.
DeWitt embodied the Greatest Generation’s values of hard work, community involvement, and kindness to others.
DeWitt was born Jan. 3, 1916, in Nelson, Mo., to Lee Irvine Shuck, a country doctor, and Mary Virgil Wing. He grew up in nearby Boonville before working through Westminster College during the Depression, graduating in 1937.
He took a job at Phillips Oil in Tulsa, Okla., where he met his future wife, Carolyn. They married
in 1950. DeWitt soon left Phillips for Harvard Business School, where he graduated in 1942. During World War II, he was a captain in the Office of the Quartermaster General in Washington, D.C.
After the war, he joined manufacturing company Hoerner Box in Keokuk, where he served as chief financial officer. DeWitt was a civic leader in Keokuk as president of the school board, the Chamber of Commerce, Community Chest, Rotary Club, and as an elder of the Presbyterian church.
In 1966, DeWitt and his family moved to Minneapolis to become CFO of the newly-merged company, Hoerner Waldorf. In Minneapolis, he was a director of First Trust Company of St. Paul, Abbott-Northwestern Hospital, Miller Hospital, Boy Scouts of America, United Fund, Northstar Research and Development, and served as a trustee of Westminster Presbyterian.
In 1972, DeWitt and Carolyn moved to La Jolla, where they spent the rest of their lives. After retiring, DeWitt served on a number of boards including H.G. Fenton, Scripps Research, the Parker Foundation, La Jolla Country Club, and as chairman of Scripps Clinic and the San Diego Museum of Art. He also regularly attended La Jolla’s Presbyterian church.
In his spare time, DeWitt avidly followed the stock market, played golf well into his nineties, and he loved clothes, buying three suits at 100 years old.
He was a devoted husband, father and friend. All felt his affection and love.
DeWitt was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn.
He is survived by children, John (Maria Shuck), Ted (Marsha Shuck), and Ellen (Peter Haley); grandchildren, John Robert, Carl William, Will (Joelle Milov) and David; stepgrandchildren, Dylan, Hillary and Michael Haley; and caregivers, Carmen Knowles, Josie del Rosario, Raul Doria, Raul Santiago and Beni Balajiada.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in DeWitt’s memory to Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest, Scripps Clinic, and Scripps Research Institute.
Velva "Jeanne" Osborn, 98, Kahoka, Mo.
KAHOKA, Mo. – Velva Jeanne Osborn, 98, of Kahoka, Mo., passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka.
Jeanne was born April 25, 1918, in Revere, Mo., a daughter of Earl Orlando and Zola Esther Christy Osborn.
Her body has been entrusted to the care of Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka for cremation. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Revere cemetery.
Rose Schreiber, 80, Revere, Mo.
REVERE, Mo. – Rose Schreiber, 80, formerly of Revere, Mo., died Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, at Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, Mo.

Geneva Eymann, 96, Macon, Mo.
MACON, Mo. – Geneva Elizabeth Henerhoff Eymann, 96, died on Oct. 28, 2016, at the Loch Haven Nursing Home in Macon, Mo.
She was born on June 17, 1920, near Warsaw, Ill.
On Aug. 20, 1949, she married
Arthur Paul Eymann at Bethany United Church of Christ, Tioga, Ill.
He preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 2015.
She graduated from Warsaw High School at age 15, and at age 18 began teaching in a one-room country school in rural Illinois. She attended Western Illinois University in Macomb, where she received a bachelor’s degree and was the first woman to receive a master’s degree in business education.
She taught school for 34 years, retiring from Keokuk High School in 1981. She and her husband then moved to Macon, where she enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, gardening and volunteering.
Her survivors include two daughters, Ardith Eymann (Eric Thompson) of Chevy Chase, Md., and Dr. Debra (Duane) Phillips of Golden, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Connie Eymann; five grandchildren, Carrie (Matthew) Bergfield and Cory (Angie) Eymann of Macon, Matthew (Charlotte) Thompson of Lansdale, Pa., Katherine Phillips of St. Louis, Mo., and Jacob Phillips of Springfield, Ill.; and four great-grandsons, Caleb and Isaac Bergfield and Tanner and Cooper Eymann, all of Macon.
In addition to her husband, her son, Arthur William Eymann; and an infant grandson, Zachariah Phillips, preceded her in death.
She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk, and attended the United Methodist Church in Macon.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Missouri Veterans cemetery in Jacksonville.
