Mary Ann (Mertens) Prouty, 63, of Knob Noster passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at her home.
She was born on November 24, 1952 in Columbus, Wi., the daughter of the late John F. Mertens and the late Louise (Wichmann) Mertens.
On May 24, 2008, Mary Ann was united in marriage to Rodney Prouty in Yellowstone National Park. He survives her passing.
Mary Ann worked as an administrative assistant of Respiratory Therapy at the University of Missouri Hospitals and Clinics. She took great pride in her work and always did her best to go above and beyond each day. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor. Mary Ann loved cats and was an avid wildlife photographer. Much like her late mother, Mary Ann loved flowers, her favorite being magnolias.
Along with her husband, Mary Ann is survived by daughter, Rebecca (Moffatt) Wichmann of Berlin, Germany; step-son, Greg Prouty and his wife, Melanie of Sedalia; step-daughter, Tracy Guthrie and her husband, Will of Sedalia; brothers, Henry W. Mertens and his wife, Ruth Ann of Oklahoma City, Ok., John F. Mertens, Jr. and his wife, Patricia of Ironton, Carl F. Mertens, Charles W. Mertens and his wife, Marlys of Warrenton, and Thomas J. Mertens and his wife, Etta of Florissant; special cousin, Marilyn Pogue of Rolla; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at United Church of Christ in Fulton. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Interment will be in Hillcrest cemetery.

Mary Ann Smart, 74, of Tebbetts was called to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, March 9, 2016.
She was born on September 17, 1941 in Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of the late Francis Mertens and the late Dorothy (Huddleston) Mertens.
On Valentine’s Day of 1958, Mary Ann was united in marriage to Lloyd Smart. He survives her passing.
Mary Ann attended Helias High School. She spent her career working along-side her family at Smart Brother’s Farms. A woman of strong faith, Mary Ann was a member of Tebbetts United Methodist Church, where she also served on the Church Board. She was community-minded as well, as was evident in her involvement in the Extension Club, Eastern Star, Democrat Club and Committee, Riverview cemetery Board, and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 5 of Jefferson City.
Those remaining to mourn her loss include her husband of 58 years; sons, Mark Smart (Dianne), and Wade Smart (James); daughters, Theresa Wendring (John), and Kim Langdon (David Vincent); sister, Betty Ogle; grandchildren, Jennifer Redcay (Nathan), Shawn Smart (Jennifer), Traci Smart-Redcay (Brandon), Jody Ayers (Jeff), Miranda Coleman (Leonard); Mary Langdon, and Trey Langdon; great-grandchildren, Jayden Ayers, Kaylee and Nick Redcay, Mariah and Kyle Coleman, Annabelle and Marabel Smart, and Emery Redcay.
Along with her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by son-in law, Duffy Langdon; and brother-in-law, Ray Ogle.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 14, 2016 at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Pastor Pati Robertson officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Tebbetts cemetery.

Jason Michael Sanning, II, 16, of Kirksville, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2016 as the result of an automobile accident.
He was born on June 5, 2000 in Fulton, the son of Jason M. Sanning and Jenniffer (Wiseman) Allison.
Jason was a vivacious young man that loved to fish and tinker with anything. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. Jason was constantly picking on his sisters, but as their protector would be the first to come to their rescue.
Those remaining to cherish his memory include his parents, Jason Sanning (Rachel Blackburn) of Kirksville and Jenniffer (Wiseman) Allison of Fulton; brothers, Steven Johnson and Sheldyn Johnson; sisters, Brittany Stiers, Kayla Sanning, Sierra Crawford, Samantha Bunch, Brianna Davis, Elisa Smith, Alyssa Sanning, Adrienne Johnson, and Ava Johnson; grandparents, Steve and Kathy Wiseman and Debbie Sanning; aunts, Chrissy (Milton), Valerie, Stephanie, and Carrie; uncle, Billy; special cousins, Sherrod, Zaiyn, and Sophia; nieces and nephews, Jazel Sanning, La’Niah Stiers, Rondrick Truss, Jr., and Ka’lyuna Truss; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Jason was preceded in death by his grandfather, Joe Brown.

Maya Jade West, 2 months old, received her angel wings on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at her home.
She was born on December 21, 2015 in Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of Crayton West and Elisa Willenburg.

HOWARD F. NICKELSON
SEPTEMBER 23, 1931 - JULY 24, 2017
Howard F. Nickelson, 85, of Fulton passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017 at Heisinger Bluffs in Jefferson City.
He was born in Stephens, Missouri on September 23, 1931, the son of the late Albert L. Nickelson and the late Jettie F. (Gowin) Nickelson.
On May 17, 1953, Howard was united in marriage to Trixie (McClellan) Nickelson. She survives his passing.
Howard was a graduate of Fulton High School. Making a vow to protect and serve, he spent the majority of his career in law enforcement, working as a Police Officer in Fulton and Mexico and serving as Marshall in Auxvasse. Howard finished his career working as a Security Officer at Fulton State Hospital. Howard and Trixie also owned Nickelson Home Improvement and Nickelson Home Rental in Fulton. Howard was involved in the Auxvasse Lions Club and served as Chairman of the Lions Club 4-H Fair. Howard was also an active member of the Fulton Breakfast Lions Club, serving as founding President and District Governor. He was recognized for his dedication to the organization as recipient of the Melvin Jones Award. For 40 years, he served as Board President of the Oak Chapel cemetery Board.
Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife of 64 years, Trixie; sons, Dennis Nickelson (Nancy) of Jefferson City, and Ricky H. Nickelson (Paula) of Fulton; daughters, Maurita Buhl (Howard) of Edgerton, and Sharon Stites (Eddie) of St. James; sister, Freida Shackelford of Laurie; grandchildren, Clinton Nickelson (Kelly), Kristina Bernskoetter (Brian), Karen Gregory (Bryan), Ben Nickelson, Jacob Nickelson (Brittany Hager) and Noah Stites; and great-grandchildren, Trent, Julia and John Bernskoetter, Adeline and Zeke Nickelson, and Emma, Lily and Tucker Gregory.
Along with his parents, Howard was preceded in death by son, Raymond; and siblings, Velbert, Ruby and Clarence Nickelson, Yvonne Kidd, Juanita Williams, and Mary Haydol.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Chaplain Jim Mueller officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Oak Chapel cemetery.

HELEN LOUISE KAUFMANN

Helen Louise Kaufmann, 85, formerly of Fulton, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Oak Tree Villa in Jefferson City.
She was born in Callaway County, Missouri on October 24, 1930, the daughter of the late Mickelson T. Peterson and the late Emma Ida (Love) Peterson.
On Christmas Eve of 1954, Helen was united in marriage to Richard “Red” Kaufmann. He preceded her in death on September 9, 1992.
Mrs. Kaufmann was devoted to her family and cherished every moment with them. She volunteered many hours on behalf of her church, serving as treasurer of the United Methodist Women for decades. She loved the members of her Bible Study Class like family. She was always pleased to help with the Christmas Bazaar and was famous for her home-canned apple butter, pickles and jellies. Helen had many talents and enjoyed sewing, cooking, knitting, and crocheting. Delivering Meals on Wheels was a special pleasure, as was visiting with people on the route. A love of travel took her to Europe and throughout the United States.
Those remaining to cherish Helen’s memory include son John Kaufmann (Alicia) of Villa Ridge, Mo.; daughter, Julia Kaufmann of Jefferson City, Mo.; brother, Richard “Pete” Peterson (Nancy) of Escondido, Ca.; sisters, JoeAnn Bullard, and Dorcas Stafford (John), all of Independence, Ks.; and grandchildren, Andrea Pendergraft (Jay) of St. Louis, and John “Ryan” Kaufmann of Columbia.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by siblings, Hugo Peterson, Russell Peterson, Forest Peterson, Eunice Peterson, Berniece Woods, Ruth Sims, and Egglentine “Jinx” Trainor.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Pastor Bruce Williamson officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens.
