Delores Wilda Andrews, 72, Archie, formerly of Kansas City, Bethel, Kan., and Lee’s Summit, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Blue Springs.
She was born Dec. 11, 1930, in Dodge City, Kan., the daughter of Theodore and Velma (Bagwell) Covalt.
Mrs. Andrews was a data processor and had worked for Charles F. Curry Insurance Company and a title company prior to becoming co-owner and CFO of Commercial Radio Monitoring Company, Lee’s Summit.
She retired in 1987 after 10 years to pursue her love for traveling.
She was a member of the Family Motor Coach Association; Heart of America Coachman Camping Club and the Midwest Prairie Schooners. She was a member of her church choir, a former member of the Garden City Community Choir and was a member of the Adrian Christian Church.
Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Leo G. Andrews, of the home; daughters and spouses, Donna Lee and Douglas Poncelow, Hanover Park, Ill., and Laura Jean and Gene McVay, Archie; six grandchildren, Sonia and Timothy Cheatham, Andrea Poncelow, Jerry McVay, Melinda “Mindy” McVay; Scott McVay and Michael McVay; and two great-grandchildren, Timothy Lee Cheatham and Thomas Anthony Cheatham.
Services were Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Longview Funeral Home.
Burial was in Longview Memorial Gardens under the direction of the Longview Funeral Home and Cemetery, Raytown.
Russell F. “Rusty” Bennett Jr.

Russell F. “Rusty” Bennett Jr., 47, Harrisonville, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Conway Regional Center in Conway, Ark.
He was born Aug. 1, 1955, the son of Russell F. Sr. and Gloria (Woods) Bennett.
On Dec. 27, 1981, he married J. Diane Dawson in Peculiar.
Mr. Bennett served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1973 to 1976.
He was a self-employed painter.
He was a member of the Baptist Church of East Lynne.
He spent his early years in the Kansas City area and moved to the family farm near East Lynne when he was about 16 years old.
Preceding him in death was his mother, Gloria Bennett.
Surviving are his wife, J. Diane Bennett, of the home; two sons, Russell F. Bennett III and Rodney Cole Bennett and a daughter, Randi Darlene Bennett, all of the home; two children from a previous marriage Dustin Kyle Lehr and Shayle Renea Lehr, both of Harrisonville; his father, Russell F. Bennett Sr., Shirley, Ark.; a brother, Lawrence E. “Cotton” Swart, Lake Lotawana; two sisters, Gloria Martinson, Lake Annette, and Laura Lou Bryant, Shirley; and many other relatives and friends.
Honorary pallbearers were Dylan T. Dawson, Kaleb M. Henderson, Derek King, Darren King and Daniel Strempke.
Pallbearers were Doug Dawson, David Dawson, Brian Dawson, Kenney Harper, Bobby Woolery, Arthur Bryant, Bradley Bockelman and Bob Ford.
Services were Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at the Wallace Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Turner officiating.
Burial was in the Pitts Chapel under the direction of the Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill.

Russell Blood, 83, Girard, Kan., died June 12, 2003, in Girard. He was born March 3, 1920, in Summit, S.D., a son of Victor and Irma (Crooks) Blood.
Cremation. A private family memorial service was held at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard with burial in the National Cemetery at Fort Scott, Kan.
Violet C. Hacker

Violet C. Hitchcock Hacker, 89, Belton, died Sunday, June 15, 2003.
She was born Oct. 8, 1913, in Skidmore.
She met Robert L. Hacker in Batavia, Ark., in 1935.
They were married Nov. 7, 1936, in Ozark.
Preceding her in death were three children, James Robert, Sandra Beth and Lois Evelyn.
Surviving are her husband of 66 years, Robert L. Hacker; a son, Douglas Roy Hacker, Lynn Haven, Fla.; three sisters, Sue Coffman, Mary Alice Funk and Charlotte Pierce; a brother Marvin Hitchcock; a son-in-law; two daughters-in-law; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; four granddaughters-in-law; a great-grandson-in-law and a host of relatives and friends.
Services were Thursday, June 19, at Crossroads United Methodist Church with burial in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville.
Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Harrisonville, under the direction of the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
Larry Dale Smith

Larry Dale Smith, 53, Ozark, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at Cox South Medical Center, Springfield.
He was born May 7, 1950, in Kansas City, the son of Donald B. and Betty Jean (Wheeler) Smith.
Mr. Smith owned and operated a mobile home business until his retirement.
He had attended Urich and Highland grade schools and Sherwood High School, Creighton.
Mr. Smith was an Army veteran, serving 13 months in Korea.
His big brother was his hero and his little sister, as he fondly called her was his “little Sweetheart.”
Preceding him in death were his grandparents; and two favorite uncles, Kenneth Tabor and Jay Wheeler.
Surviving are a son, Donnie Dale Smith, Ozark; two daughters, Tawanda Smith, Republic, and Holly Murdock and husband, Jerry, Billings; his parents, Donald and Betty Smith, a brother, Gary Smith, and wife, Margaret, all of Adrian; A sister, LaDonna Jean Diller, and husband, Mark, Warrenton; his former wife, Debbie Smith, Republic; other relatives and many friends.
Honorary pallbearers were Bill Copeland, Tom Folkert, Jerry Murdock and Todd Scalety.
Pallbearers were Mike Akins, Gary Page, Jody Phillips, Bill Stephens, Keith Thomas and Steve Wheeler.
Services were Friday, June 13, at the Dickey Funeral Home with the Rev. Giffin Simmons officiating.
Burial was in the Dayton Cemetery near Garden City with military services under the auspices of the Harrisonville Honor Guard.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City.
James C. Wallace
July 19, 1913 - June 10, 2003
James C. Wallace, 89, Pleasant Hill, died Tuesday, June 10, at his home.
He was born July 19, 1913, in Pleasant Hill, the son of Hugh Martin and Gertrude Anna (Cook) Wallace.
Mr. Wallace spent his lifetime in Pleasant Hill except for the four years he served his country with the Graves Registration in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific.
He graduated from William Jewell College and Williams Institute of Mortuary Science.
On Nov. 28, 1945, he married Martha K. Eberhardt in Kansas City, Kan.
Mr. Wallace was a member of the United Methodist Church; the VFW Post 3118 and had served as service officer for more than 40 years; the Jewel Lodge No. 480 AF&AM; all in Pleasant Hill.
He was also a member of the Ararat Shrine of Kansas City.
He was past president of the Pleasant Hill Historical Society, past president of Cass County Shrine Club and a longtime member of the Missouri Funeral Directors Association.
He was a Kentucky Colonel, commissioned by Gov. Martha L. Collins in 1987.
He owned and operated the Wallace Funeral Homes in Pleasant Hill and Cleveland for more than 45 years.
Mr. Wallace sponsored Little League football, baseball and gave the land for the Boy Scouts in Pleasant Hill.
He received many plaques throughout the years.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, George Wallace and Hugh Wallace; and a sister, W. Jean Manson.
Surviving are his wife, Martha K. Wallace, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Marcia K. and William G. McConville, Pleasant Hill; three grandchildren, Dr. Brandon Jean and her husband, Steve Schmerhorn, Hebron, Ind., James A. Hackett, esq., and his wife, Holly, Hermitage, and Justin McConville and his friend, Becca Kirk, both of Pleasant Hill; and a foster sister, Hattie Hamilton, Pleasant Hill; and three great-grandchildren, Cody Powell, Justin Williams and Alexandria Schmerhorn; and many other relatives and friends.
Services were at the Wallace Funeral Home assisted by Danny Carmichael and Danny Cast with the Rev. James E. Wilkins officiating.
