James Arthur Hocker Jr.

James Arthur Hocker Jr., 78, Drexel, died Dec. 8, 2005, at his home.
He was born Jan. 11, 1927, in Amarugia, the son of Gladys Davenport and James Arthur “Josh” Hocker Sr.
Mr. Hocker lived in Cass County his entire life.
He was raised in the Amarugia area and attended Oak Grove Grade School.
They later moved south and west of Main City where he attended Archie High School for one year before transferring to Drexel where he finished high school.
He joined the United States Navy in November 1944.
He was stationed in the Philippines where he remained until the end of the war in 1945.
May 21, 1945, he married his high school sweetheart, Martha E. Philpot.
Mr. Hocker farmed with his father until 1979 when “Josh” passed away.
The operation then continued with James and his sons.
He retired in 1994 after many years of farming.
He was a loving husband, dad and grandfather.
Mr. Hocker was a member of the Christian Church of Drexel and served as a board chairman for many years.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and a brother, Richard Earl Hocker.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Martha Hocker, of the home; a daughter, Barbara Ann Taylor, Drexel; two sons, Randy Lee Hocker and his wife, Kim, Drexel, and James William “Bill” Hocker and his wife, Sandy, Archie; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services were Sunday, Dec. 11, at the Christian Church in Drexel.
Burial was in the Sharon Cemetery near Drexel, under the direction of the Wilson & Son Funeral Home, Drexel.

Robert was born April 8, 1924, in Linton, Greene County, Ind., the son of Urban and Dona (Bedwell) Lovelace.
Services were Dec. 10 at the Atkinson Chapel, Adrian.
Burial was in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home, Adrian.

Betty G. Elliott Rudd, 82, Butler, died Dec. 9, 2005.
She was born March 20, 1923, in Drexel, the daughter of Dewton and Dorothy (Toncary) Elliott.
Memorial services were Dec. 14 at the Atkinson Chapel, Adrian. Cremation.
Arrangements were under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home, Adrian.
Howard Ray Sites

Howard Ray Sites, 56, Carthage, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, at Joplin Health Rehabilitation and Nursing Home, Joplin.
He was born June 26, 1949, in Harrisonville, the son of Roy Eugene and Dora Alatha (Kinnaird) Sites.
Sept. 12, 1994, he married Rose Elia in the Conners Avenue Baptist Church, Joplin.
Mr. Sites worked for Tri-State Motor Transit and C.F.I. in Joplin where he was a truck driver, retiring in 1991.
He had lived in the Joplin and Webb City area for 21 years.
He was a member of the Dueneweg Baptist Church and was a Bible camp assistant for nine years.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and his grandparents, Earl and Hazel Sites and Charles and Bertha Kinnaird.
Surviving are his wife, Rosa; a twin brother, Harold Sites, and his wife, Shirley, Carthage; a sister, Barbara Capitaine, and her husband, Charles, Richmond, Va.; an uncle, Paul Sites, Clinton, and an aunt, Opal Jones, Garden City.
Services were Wednesday, Dec. 14 at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville, with the Rev. Terry Tyler officiating.
Burial was in the Grant Cemetery, Creighton, under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
Contributions may be made to Trinity Hospice, Joplin, or Baptist Hill Baptist Bible Church Camp, Mt. Vernon.
Patrick N. Crafton

He was born July 20, 1969, in Butler, the son of Edward and Patricia Carol (Smith) Crafton.
Services were Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville.
Cremation under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
Glessie Irene Garten
June 22, 1917 - Jan. 21, 2006
Glessie Irene Garten, 88, Peculiar, died Jan. 21, 2006, at Raymore Health Care, Raymore.
She was born June 22, 1917, near Peculiar, the daughter of Roy E. and Ora Manervia (Powell) Phillips.
Mrs. Garten had lived in Brawley, Calif., Ottawa, Kan., and Peculiar.
When the depression hit, she moved back to the family farm near Peculiar.
After graduating from Peculiar High School in 1934, she attended Missouri State Teachers College, Warrensburg.
She taught in rural Cass County Schools for the next four years.
While teaching at Southfork, near Drexel, she met and married John L. Garten March 5, 1938, at her home near Peculiar.
At age 49, in 1966, she went work as assistant librarian for Peculiar and Raymore elementary schools, retiring after 28 years at the age of 77.
Mrs. Garten was a Christian and attended the Open Door Bible Church in Belton.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husband of 45 years, John, Sept. 1, 1978.
Surviving are her five children, Sheryl Harper and husband, Don, Saleta Hentschel and husband, David, John Garten and wife, Sally, DeeOra Hunter and husband, Joe and Mark Garten and wife, Gale; a brother, Duane Phillips, Grandview; a brother-in-law, Gene Rogers, Belton; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Open Door Bible Church in Belton.
Burial was in West Union Cemetery, Peculiar, under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church building or missions fund.
Bobby C. Green

Bobby Carson Green, 67, Kansas City, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, at his home.
He was born Aug. 11, 1938, at Braggs, Okla., the son of Edgar L. and Bertha Mae (Isbell) Green.
Aug. 23, 1958, he married Carlene V. Cantrell in Miami, Okla.
Mr. Green was employed for 35 years as a saw operator in concrete road construction for W.A. Ellis Construction Co. and earlier for J.P. Reiter Construction Co. until his retirement in 1999.
He was a member of Heavy Construction Laborers Union No. 663, Kansas City.
He had lived in Archie before moving to Kansas City in June 2004.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Tony Green, Dec. 5, 2004; a brother, Danny Green; and a sister, Joyce Richmond.
Surviving are his wife, Carlene V. Green, of the home; a son, Ricky Green, Kansas City; two daughters, Mitzi Morgan and husband, Jay P., Garden City, Bobbi Lorenz and husband, Steven, Butler; two brothers, John Green, Dallas, Texas, and Robert Green, Tulsa, Okla.; five sisters, Etha Lee Porter, Odessa, Ann Green, Pleasant Hill, Peggy Gary, Harrisonville, Linda Havens, Butler, and Brenda Lieneke, Wellington; three grandchildren; Preston, Christian and Amy; a great-granddaughter, Payden; and other relatives and many friends.
Honorary pallbearers were Ed Gary, Steve Havens, Kermit Lieneke, John Green, Robert Green and David Porter.
Pallbearers were Ricky Cantrell Jr., Bo Harper, Steven Lorenz, Frank Morgan, Jay P. Morgan and Preston Morgan.
Services were Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, with the Rev. Travis James officiating.
Burial was in the Austin Cemetery near Archie, under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
