Nina Moorhead Cassody
Jan. 5, 1920 - Sept. 4, 2000
Nina Moorhead Cassody, 80, Harrisonville, died Monday, Sept. 4, at Camden Health Care Center, Harrisonville.
She was born Jan. 5, 1920, in Lee's Summit, the daughter of Carl and Nina (Buckley) Harris.
On Aug. 14, 1937, she married Randall Moorhead.
On Nov. 18, 1980, she married Robert Cassody.
Mrs. Cassody lived in Lee's Summit until moving to Harrisonville in 1950.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, Harrisonville.
She had worked at the Mar-Kee Shop in Harrisonville for several years.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her first husband, Randall Moorhead, on March 27, 1978, and two brothers, Ernie Harris and Floyd Harris.
Surviving are her husband, Robert Cassody, of the home; a daughter, Donna Young, Lee's Summit; a brother, Milton Harris, Raytown; four sisters, Cammie Moorhead, Lee's Summit, Edith King, Independence, Stubbie Ficken, Lee's Summit, and Jo Mason, California; four stepdaughters, Frannie, Ann, Shirley and Robin; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were Wednesday, Sept. 6, at the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville, with the Rev. Charles Sutton, Harrisonville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.

Lorraine H. Smith Collins
March 18, 1920 - Aug. 29, 2000
Lorraine H. Smith Collins, 80, Pleasant Hill, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, at the Pleasant Hill Health and Rehabilitation.
She was born March 18, 1920, in Missouri, the daughter of David and Edith Morehouse.
She married Alfred Smith, who died in 1970.
In 1972, she married Jack Collins in Kansas City.
Mrs. Collins lived in Pleasant Hill prior to moving to Kansas City in 1959.
She moved back to Pleasant Hill four years ago.
She had worked at the old Pleasant Hill Garment Factory and also worked for a time at H.D. Lee's in Kansas City.
She attended the Beverly Hills Baptist Church in Kansas City.
Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her first husband; her second husband, Jack Collins, in 1992; a son, Glen Smith; a granddaughter, Angela Lynette Hale; and a sister, Vivian Lucille Wiley.
Surviving are two daughters, Judy Hale, Climax Springs, and Jerry Dinges, Olathe, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Casketbearers were Jerry Lee Dinges, Steve Hale, Bill Orrick, David Diaz, Bill Selley and Tim Ebling.
Services were Friday, Sept. 1, at the Stanley & Son Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, with the Rev. Wyatt Shanks, assisted by Bill Cotton, officiating.
Burial Was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley & Son Funeral Home.

Kathleen K. Cook
Aug. 9, 1944 - Aug. 29, 2000
Kathleen Kay Cook, 56, Nowata, Okla., died Tuesday, Aug. 29, at her home.
She was born Aug. 9, 1944, in Kansas City, the daughter of Fred Homer Sr. and Frances Bernice (Gaither) Monteil.
Mrs. Cook was an "A" operator for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company, Louisburg, Kan., for 13 years.
She was also a sales associate for J. Harold Smith Real Estate, Harrisonville, and was a unit secretary for Moore County Hospital District, Dumas, Texas.
She was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Nowata where she was very active.
She was a former member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Harrisonville, and Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Dumas.
Mrs. Cook lived in Harrisonville since 1985 before moving to Dumas and then to Nowata in May 2000.
She was involved in the community wherever she lived.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Surviving are a son, Sean Patrick Cook, Anchorage, Alaska; two daughters, Kim Bybee, Dumas, and Jennifer Ring, Grandview; her father, Fred Monteil Sr., Five Points, Ala.; two brothers, Fred Monteil Jr., Yukon, Okla., and Bill Monteil, Platte City; five sisters, Mary Lynne Buhlitz, Bella Vista, Ark., Sharon Aring, Smithville, Helen Betts, Five Points, Sue Deily, Gardner, Kan., and Johannah Johnson, Taberville; and four grandchildren.
Casketbearers were Joseph Arcand, Robert Krebbs, Bill Monteil, Fred Monteil Jr., Nathan Monteil and James Tenpenny.
Rosary service was Friday, Sept. 1, at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
Services were Saturday, Sept. 2, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Harrisonville, with the Rev. Bradley S. Offutt officiating.
Ron Strong was the soloist and Cindy Dunham was the organist.
Burial was in the Orient Cemetery under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Shriner's Burn Institute.

Ila May Gross
Nov. 28, 1912- Aug. 30, 2000
Ila May Gross, 87, Garden City, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, at Golden Years, Harrisonville.
She was born Nov. 28, 1912, near Garden City, the daughter of Louis Pheilding and Ida Alice (Hough) Jones.
On May 1, 1937, she married Harris J. Gross, in Garden City.
Mrs. Gross and her husband operated Gross Produce in Garden City in 1936 and later operated a grocery store until 1964.
She became a cook for the Garden City School District and retired in 1981 from Sherwood Cass R-VIII School District, Creighton.
She was a 1930 graduate of Garden City High School.
Mrs. Gross was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, the Quilting Ladies, Index Auxiliary Club and the Matrons Club all of Garden City.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Harris Gross, May 18, 1982; an infant daughter, Bonnie Lou; three sisters, Ruth Randol, Clara Elliott, and Gladys Pollard; and a brother, Verl Jones.
Surviving are two daughters. Sheryl Philliber, Sedalia, and Peggy James, Garden City; a sister, Cleo Dick, Redlands, Calif.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Casketbearers were Jerry Elliott, Jimmy Elliott, Terry Jones, Jeff Philliber, Joel Philliber and Karl Schrock.
Services were Friday, Sept. 1, at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Sally DeMasters officiating.
Burial was in the Garden City Cemetery under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City.

Amanda Jane Halcomb
Feb. 20, 1911 - Sept. 1, 2000
Amanda Jane Halcomb, 89, Harrisonville, died Friday, Sept. 1, at Cass Medical Center, Harrisonville.
She was born Feb. 20, 1911, in Martin City, the daughter of George W. and DeLana (Calhoun) Garten.
The family moved to a farm near Peculiar shortly after her birth.
In 1919, they moved to the South Fork community, south of Freeman.
On Nov. 23, 1939, she married Henry "Shag" Halcomb.
Mrs. Halcomb worked as a bookkeeper for the Gas Service Company and later worked for Bowman Photography Studio.
In 1949, she and her husband moved to Mound City and purchased the Mound City Cleaning Shop, which they operated until 1974 when they sold the shop.
She moved to Harrisonville in 1974.
In 1999, she entered Camden Health Care Center.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband "Shag" Halcomb, in August 1974; two brothers, John Garten and Henry Garten.
Surviving is a sister, Anna Russell, Harrisonville.
Casketbearers were Ronnie Russell, Donnie Russell, Kevin Russell, Mark Garten, Bob Russell and Jimmy George.
Services were Tuesday, Sept. 5, at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville, with the Rev. Charles Sutton, Harrisonville, and the Rev. David Noble of the First Baptist Church Harrisonville officiating.
Burial was in the Garden City Cemetery under the direction of the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.

Faye Dean Henry
Dec. 31, 1906 - Sept. 3, 2000
Faye Dean Henry, 93, Kansas City, formerly of Raymore, died Sunday, Sept. 3, at Life Care Center of Grandview.
She was born Dec. 31, 1906, the daughter of Thomas W. and Nellie (Gray) Dean.
Mrs. Henry was a member of the Sterling Ave Church of Christ, Raytown.
She was a former schoolteacher in Gunn City and a 4-H leader for 25 years in Hayti.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Floyd Patrick Henry, 1993; and a sister, Mary Vina Stewart, 1992.
Surviving are three daughters, Berdyne Fultz, Kansas City, Wanda Jean Spears, Crosby, Texas, and Charlotte Topel, Grandview; and siblings, Merle Mott, Willia Kenagy, Esther Plank, Eula Mae Franklin, J.T. Dean, Earl Dean and Bearl Dean, all of Raymore; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services were Wednesday, Sept. 6, at E.K. George & Sons, Belton Chapel.
Burial was in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville, under the direction of the E.K. George & Sons, Belton.
