Alice J. Still, 84, Harrisonville, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City.
She was born June 8, 1916, in Chariton County.
Mrs. Still was a member of the Hughes-Marvin Post of the VFW Auxiliary and she attended the First Baptist Church in Harrisonville.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 41 years, Robert B. Still; two sisters, Veldina Stephenson and Dorothy Murphy.
Surviving are a son, Thomas Still, Harrisonville; two daughters, Linda Gibson, Harrisonville, and Phyllis Pool, Raymore; two sisters, Virginia Osborne and Ida Mae Koechner; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 8, at the Mt. Moriah and Freeman Chapel.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at Mt. Moriah and Freeman Chapel, I-435 at Holmes Road, Kansas City.
Burial will be in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery under the direction of the Mt. Moriah and Freeman Chapel.
Cassius Lorenzo "C.L." VanSandt
April 24, 1928 - August 28, 2000
Cassius Lorenzo "C.L." VanSandt, 72, Adrian, died Monday, Aug. 28, in Kansas City.
He was born April 24, 1928, in Austin east of Archie, the son of Lorenzo Dow "Curly" and Edith Mae (Weaver) VanSandt.
Mr. VanSandt graduated from Archie High School in May 1946.
On May 26, 1950, he married Ina May Hahn at the Ohio Street United Methodist Church in Butler.
In 1953, he moved from Kansas City to southwest of Adrian.
From September 1946 until August 1948, Mr. VanSandt served his country with the 507th Port Marine Maintenance Company of the 61st Transportation Service Battalion U.S. Army.
Following his discharge he returned to work for Warner Oil Co. in Archie until January 1949, when he was hired at Fisher Body, General Motors Assembly Plant in Kansas City.
He farmed until his retirement in 1992.
Mr. VanSandt was a member of the United Methodist Church, Adrian, and a former member of the Mid-America Dairy Association.
He served as a 4-H Club project leader and a Little League baseball coach.
He was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Dale VanSandt; and two brothers, Everett Hale and Lawrence Dean VanSandt.
Surviving are his wife, Ina Mae VanSandt, of the home; two sons, Terry Allan VanSandt and Ronnie Gene VanSandt, both of Adrian; two brothers, Leroy VanSandt, Smithville, and Richard VanSandt, Independence; four sisters, Beverly Page, Lenexa, Kan., LuRelda Carter, Kansas City, Vivian Dor sett, Bartlesville, Okla., and Edith Mae Henley, Pleasant Hill; and four grandchildren.
Honorary casketbearers were Shawn VanSandt, Logan VanSandt, Tyler VanSandt, Tim Self, Travis Self and Danny Hahn.
Casketbearers were Robert Burch, Allen Finklang, Bill Stephens, Richard Wimsatt, Jim McCanles and Tracy Rugg.
Services were Thursday, Aug. 31, at the Atkinson Chapel, Adrian, with the Rev. Bob Clyde of the Adrian United Methodist Church officiating. Lu Hooper was the vocalist and Kathleen Stephens was the organist.
Burial was in the Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, under the direction of the Atkinson Funeral Home, Adrian.
Allen Wilson Brownfield
Aug. 26, 1902 - Oct. 6, 2000
Dr. Allen Wilson Brownfield, 98, formerly of Pleasant Hill, died Friday, Oct. 6, at Wiltshire at Lakewood in Lee's summit.
He was born Aug. 26, 1902, near Lee's Summit, the son of Charley and Eliza Brownfield.
Mr. Brownfield attended Tennison Grade School and graduated from Lee's Summit High School.
He graduated from Kansas City Western Dental College in 1925.
He practiced in Buckner several years before a hand injury forced him to give up his dental practice.
At that time, he attended Williams Institute of Embalming and Funeral Directing in 1931.
In 1934, he opened the Brownfield Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill.
In 1937, he married Nelle Heslar of Kansas City.
Mr. Brownsfield owned and operated the Pleasant Hill Monument business where he designed the war veterans' memorial monument placed in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
In 1955, he sold both businesses.
He devoted much time to Pleasant Hill civic work serving as city councilman, secretary for Kiwanis Club, co-founder of the Falcon Club, Pleasant Hill Cemetery Board and president and charter member of Masonic Lodge with a lifetime membership.
Mr. Brownfield served 37 consecutive years as director of three life insurance companies, National Union of Poplar Bluff, co-founder and director of American Standard of Poplar Bluff, Appalacean National Life of Knoxville, Tenn, co-founder and director of Webco Corporation of Poplar Bluff.
He was a member of Jewel Lodge #480 AF&AM; of Pleasant Hill, the Bayard Commandery #26 of Harrisonville, the Wyoming Chapter #43 of Royal Arch Masons, member of Ararat Shrine, Kansas City, and of the Pleasant Hill Christian Church where he served as an elder.
Mr. Brownfield was preceded in death by his wife, Nelle Brownfield, Nov. 4, 1986.
Surviving are a sister, Frances Miller, Independence; a brother, Beal Brownfield, Lee's Summit; sisters-in-law, Riva Cloud, Harrisonville, and Helen Judah, Bloomington, Ind.
Services were Thursday, Oct. 12, at the Wallace Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill.
Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with a Masonic Service by members of the Jewel Lodge #480 AF&AM.
Katherine Joene Clemons

Katherine Joene Clemons, 65, Stratford, Conn., died Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, Conn.
She was born Aug. 31, 1935, in Holden, the daughter of James Oswald and Letha Tillie (Meier) Cotter.
On Jan. 29, 1954, she married Jesse M. Clemons in Holden.
Mrs. Clemons attended school in Holden and graduated from Holden High School.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Clemons lived in Pleasant Hill from 1954 until 1959, when they moved to Lee's Summit.
In 1961, they moved to Marietta, Ga., and lived there until 1972 when they moved to Stratford, Conn., where she lived the past 28 years.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a son, Brian D. Clemons; and a brother, William Cotter.
Surviving are her husband, Jesse M. Clemons, of the home; a daughter, Lori K. Alterio, Shelton, Conn.; two brothers, James E. Cotter, Lake Lafayette, and Gary D. Cotter, Belton; two sisters, Mary J. Thorp, Independence, and Norma J. McConville, Holden; a sister-in-law, Ann Cotter, Pleasant Hill; and two grandchildren.
Casketbearers were Jeff Cotter, Scott Cotter, William McConville, Bruce Purtle, Craig Cotter and Dennis Cotter.
Services were Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill with the Rev. Wyatt Shanks officiating.
Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Wallace Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill.
Doris E. Fields

Doris E. Fields, 75, Belton, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, at her home.
She was born Jan. 20, 1925, in Montevallo.
Mrs. Fields was a member of the Coleman Baptist Church, Peculiar, where she was also a Sunday school teacher.
She was a member of the Women's Missionary Union.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Dorrance Fields, Oct. 3, 1998.
Surviving are two daughters, Belinda Casey, Cleveland, and Karen Creason, Belton, and a son, Boyd Fields, Belton; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services were Thursday, Oct. 12, at the E.K. George & Sons Belton Chapel.
Burial was in the Belton Cemetery under the direction of the E.K. George & Sons Funeral Home, Belton.
