Raymond K. Brooks
Raymond K. Brooks, 88, Archie, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, at his home.
Visitation was from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Atkinson Chapel in Adrian.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 23, at the Atkinson Chapel.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Atkinson Funeral Home, Adrian.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bates County Memorial Hospital Hospice.

Betty Ruth Cockrell
April 24, 1926 - Feb. 18, 2001
Betty Ruth Cockrell, 74, Grandview, died Sunday, Feb. 18, at Saint Joseph Health Center, Kansas City.
She was born April 24, 1926, in Anaconda, Mont., the daughter of Tony and Elsie (Bailey) James.
March 2, 1967, she married Chester Lee Cockrell in Reno, Nev.
Mrs. Cockrell graduated from high school in Monroe, Mich. She was a police officer in Anchorage, Alaska, for 13 years and was a state champion trapshooter in Alaska and Michigan.
She had lived in Grandview for the past 27 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Cockrell was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Chester Cockrell, March 19, 1999; and four brothers.
Surviving are two sons, James Cockrell, Grandview, and Don Howard, Lake Tahoe, Nev.; a brother, Don Bailey, Bethel, Ark.; and two sisters, Pat Baskett, Port Saint Lucie, Fla., and Joan Haug, Anchorage.
The honorary casketbearer was Colin Mossman.
Casketbearers were Earl Cockrell, Todd Hanifl, Mike Murphy and Jeff Chapman.
Services were Thursday, Feb. 22, at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville, with Father Martin of the Saint Joseph Health Center, Kansas City, officiating.
Burial was in the Freeman Cemetery under the direction of the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Joseph Health Center Foundation.

Orlie Franklin Kenagy
Dec. 14, 1921 - Feb. 15, 2001
Orlie Franklin Kenagy, 79, Garden City, died Thursday, Feb. 15, at Cass Medical Center, Harrisonville.
He was born Dec. 14, 1921, near Garden City, the son of Urvin Allen and Bertha Maude (Gross) Kenagy.
July 12, 1942, he married Lois Dorthea Harder in Cherry Box.
Mr. Kenagy was employed as a truck driver for Buerge Brothers Elevator, Harrisonville, until 1971.
Later, he was employed at Morrow Lumber Company in Peculiar, until 1982 and as a school bus driver for Cass R-VIII School District until his retirement.
He was a member of Sycamore Grove Mennonite Church, near Garden City. He was a lifelong area resident of Garden City.
Mr. Kenagy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois Kenagy, Jan. 27, 1998; a son, Everett Dale Kenagy, May 22, 1996; a daughter, Treva Marie Darling, March 9, 1992; three brothers, Charles Kenagy, Harlie Kenagy and Arthur Kenagy; three sisters, Geneva Siegenthaler, May Barber and Gladys Williams.
Surviving are two sons, Verlin D. Kenagy, Midwest City, Okla., and Delbert Kenagy, Garden City; a daughter, Twila M. Fieker, Highland, Ill.; a sister, Edna Detwiler, Kirksville; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Honorary casketbearers were Clayton M. Knepp and Walter Yoder.
Casketbearers were Dan Fieker, Jason Fieker, Jimmy Kenagy, Michael Kenagy, Clayton Knepp Jr. and Ken Poisal.
Services were Monday, Feb. 19, at Sycamore Grove Mennonite Church near Garden City with the Rev. Kenneth Steckly and Mike Bates officiating. Music was provided by Rufus Kenagy, Stanley Schrock, Calvin Yoder and Willard Yoder.
Burial was in the Clearfork Cemetery near Garden City under the direction of the dickey Funeral Home, Garden City.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

Betty Jewell McEntire
Oct. 20, 1928 - Feb. 14, 2001
Betty Jewell McEntire, 72, Harrisonville, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, at Camden Health Care Center, Harrisonville.
She was born Oct. 20, 1928, in Gilman City, the daughter of Truman Austin and Daisy Dolleta (Severe) Claypool.
Sept. 15, 1947, she married David McEntire in Pittsburg, Kan.
Mrs. McEntire was a homemaker. She was a member of the Rose Hill Baptist Church, Latour. She had lived in Garden City before moving to Harrisonville.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a son, J.D. McEntire; a granddaughter, Rebecca McEntire; a brother, Donald Claypool; and a sister, Shirley Wheeldon.
Surviving are her husband, David McEntire, a son, Michael W. McEntire, both of Garden City; three daughters, Sharon Hampton, Garden City, Rose A. Reitz, Clinton, and Ruth Ann Wiltz, Urich; a sister, Rosalee Gash, Harrisonville; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Casketbearers were Robert Greenwood, Richard Leuty, Tom Leuty, Tommy Dean Leuty, Richard Reitz, Andy Wheeldon and Danny Wiltz.
Services were Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Clifford Woolery officiating.
Burial was in the Dayton Cemetery near Garden City under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Twin Lakes Hospice, Clinton.

Bertha Ann Nichols
July 8, 1910 - Feb. 17, 2001
Bertha Ann Nichols, 90, Parsons, Kan., formerly of Archie, died Saturday, Feb. 17, in Parsons.
She was born July 8, 1910, in Stanley County, Aberdeen, N.C., the daughter of Debbie Lee and Flora Ann (Austin) Moss.
She worked in the cotton fields as a young person.
In 1927, she married Samuel Robert Nicoll.
Mrs. Nichols moved to Kansas City in 1935 to live with Samuel's family. She was employed at the Nelly Don Garment Factory in Kansas City.
Later, she moved to a farm west of Archie.
In 1948, she married Clarence P. Nichols. They worked the family farm south of Archie until they retired and moved to Archie in 1970.
Mrs. Nichols was a member of the First Christian Church in Adrian and the Optimist Club in Archie.
She moved to Parsons in 1995.
Mrs. Nichols was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence P. Nichols in 1979.
Surviving are five sons, Robert Samuel Nicoll, Oak Grove, Richard Austin Nicoll, Independence, David Lee Nicoll, Parsons, Clarence Daniel "Danny" Nichols, St. Joseph, and James Winfred Nichols, Harrisonville; eight brothers and sisters in North Carolina; 13 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
Casketbearers were Scott Nicoll, Steve Nicoll, Terry Nicoll, John Nicoll, Chris Nichols and David Doren.
Services were Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the Atkinson Chapel, Archie, with the Rev. Paul Burhart of the Adrian Christian Church officiating. Phyllis Alexander and Shirley Dobson were the vocalists with Nadine Lethcho on the piano.
Burial was in the Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, under the direction of the Atkinson Funeral Home, Archie.

Rolla Alfred Rushly
March 25, 1908 - Feb. 13, 2001
Rolla Alfred Rushly, 92, Harrisonville, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the home of his son near Harrisonville.
He was born March 25, 1908, near Medford, the son of Christian W. and Susie Anna (Raber) Rushly.
Nov. 1, 1936, he married May King in Kansas City, Kan.
Mr. Rushly was a farmer and stockman until his retirement. He was a member of the Sycamore Grove Mennonite Church near Garden City.
He was a former school board member for the Lone Elm Rural School near Harrisonville and a member of the Farm Bureau.
Mr. Rushly had lived in the Harrisonville area since 1941.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Barbara Yoder; a granddaughter, Rachel Pullen; and a brother, Ralph Rushly.
Surviving are his wife, May Rushly, of the home; a son, Ron Rushly, Harrisonville; a brother, Lawrence Rushly, Harrisonville; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Casketbearers were Benjamin Rushly, Chris Rushly, Jonathan Rushly, Joseph Rushly, Levi Rushly, Mahlon Rushly, Noah Rushly, Phillip Rushly, Raymond Rushly and Brian Yoder.
Services were Friday, Feb. 16, at the Sycamore Grove Mennonite Church near Garden City with the Rev. Kenneth Steckly and Mike Bates officiating.
Burial was in the Clearfork Cemetery near Garden City under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City.
