LOIS G. JUDD
LAMAR - A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, at the First Assembly of God Church, for Lois Gertrude Judd, 86, Lamar, who died at 5:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin. The Rev. Dave McLennan will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home. Survivors include a son, Robin Judd, Lamar; several grandchil-dren, and several great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Judd was born Jan. 26, 1916, in Holdenville, Okla., to Henry K. and Katie (Burkheart) Funk. She had lived in Nevada, Mo., for over nine years before moving to Lamar in 2000. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Lamar.
She married William Buren Judd on Dec. 4, 1961, in Reno, Nevada. He died Dec. 12, 1977.
JAMES EDWARD "ED" HOOD, JR.
NIXA - A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, at Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut St., Springfield, for James Edwin "Ed" Hood, Jr., 58, Nixa, formerly of Lamar, who died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002. Interment of cremains will follow at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery with military honors by the Veterans’ Memorial Team.
Survivors include two sons, Shane David Hood and wife Heather, and Ryan Richard Hood, all of Springfield; a special friend, Sharon Buddette, Ozark; the mother of his children, Karen Denise Hood, Palm Springs, Calif.; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dick and Patsy Julich, Nixa; a brother-in-law, Jeff Julich and wife Debbie, Ozark; a sister-in-law, Jan Burch and husband Doyle, Nixa; a brother-in-law, Randy Julich, Rockaway Beach; nephews Justin Webster and Brandon Burch, both of Nixa; a niece, Summer Freese and husband Mike, Nixa, and an aunt and uncle, Joyce Clemens, Lamar.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, David Storm, and his stepfather, Fred Storm.
Mr. Hood was born Nov. 6, 1944, in Carthage, to James Edwin Hood and Leo Jane Hood Storm. He was a veteran of the Army. He was a member of the U.S. Special Forces in the Vietnam War, receiving a Purple Heart.
VIRGINIA COSTEPHENS
NEOSHO - Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Lamar, for Virginia Costephens, 85, Neosho, who died at 4:55 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Medicalodge of Neosho, after a lengthy illness.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lohmeyer-Konantz Funeral Home, Lamar.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, in care of the funeral home.
Survivors include three sons, Nick Bolejack, Alvo, Neb., Jack Bolejack, Shalimar, Fla., and Rodney Bolejack, Stockton; two sisters, Ellen Eppler, Topeka, Kan., and Betty Dettmer, Atchison, Kan., and a brother, Ellis Shaver, Barnes, Kan.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Ray.
Mrs. Costephens was born Feb. 10, 1917, in Falls City, Neb., to Jacob and Ellen Shaver. She had been a resident of Neosho for the past four years, having moved from Mulberry, Kan. She was a retired truck driver. She was of the Baptist faith.
She married Nicholas Bolejack in Waterville, Kan. He died Feb. 17, 1968. She married Gerald Costephens at Lincoln, Neb. He died April 27, 1984.
ABBIE D. STOLTING
GOLDEN CITY - Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, at the Golden City United Methodist Church, for Abbie Dean Stolting, 85, Golden City, who died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home. Rev. Jane Crooks officiated. Burial was in the Greenwood-Kristler Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Frank Stolting; three daughters, Anna Brinkhoff and husband Junior, Louise Fine and husband Robert, and Carolyn Drake and husband Steve; eight grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Cowan, and two sisters, Bessie Water and Merel Cowan.
Mrs. Stolting was born July 14, 1917, in Stockton, to Lemuel Lewis and Fannie Mae (Abbott) Cowan. She had been employed at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home as a dietitionist.
She married Frank Stolting on June 15, 1937, in Golden City.
LOIS COSTLEY FOGER
LAMAR - Services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Verdella Freewill Baptist Church, for Lois Costley Foger, 87, Liberal, who died at 5:20 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at Barton County Memorial Hospital, following a short illness. Burial was in Waters Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Lohmeyer-Konantz Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Cohen Breast Cancer Foundation or Verdella Freewill Baptist Church Capital Improvement. Survivors include her husband, Martin Foger; a daughter, Theresa Janet Presley, Kirksville; two brothers, Eugene Costley, Lamar, and Glen Costley, Wheaton, and four grandchildren, Janette, Nick, Genevieve and Evangeline Presley.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Valeda Lueck, Clora Frazier and Christine Costley.
Mrs. Foger was born July 15, 1915, in Jasper County, to Vivian and Verla (Cotton) Costley. She was a lifetime area resident. She was a homemaker. and a member of the Verdella Freewill Baptist Church. She was a member of the Bryant Club, Verdella Freewill Baptist Church, Ladies Auxiliary. She married Martin Foger on Sept. 14, 1935, in Lamar.
DONALD WILLIAM "CASS" THOMAS
GOLDEN CITY - Services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Chapel, Kansas City, Mo., for Donald William "Cass" Thomas, 76, Golden City, who died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at the home of his daughter in Lees’ Summit. Burial was in Mt. Moriah South Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Thomas; children, Don Jr. and wife Denise, Rick Thomas, Patricia Thomas and Linda Harrison and husband John; a sister, Margaret Miller; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and stepchildren, Diane Reid and husband Robert, and Rachel Higgins and husband Doyle.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 23 years, Willis Naomi Thomas; two sisters; two half-sister and a half-brother.
Mr. Thomas was born March 11, 1926, in Grand Forks, ND. He graduated from Langdon High School. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy aboard a patrol craft in the Pacific Theatre. He attended the University of Denver and the University of Missouri, studying marketing. He was employed at Canteen of America and Servamation Co., where he was named to the "Two Million Dollar Sales Club."
He was an entrepreneur with Collegiate Vending, The Black Angus Restaurant and The Platte Angus Restaurant. Upon retirement in the Carthage area, he was known around the courthouse as the "Hot Dog Man."
JAN MARI HERBINGER RUSH
GROOM, Texas - Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church, Lamar, for Jan Mari Herbinger Rush, 38, Groom, who died Saturday, Nov. 23, at her residence.
Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar, Mo.
Survivors include her father and stepmother, Jack and Laurel Herbinger, Lamar, Mo.; her mother and stepfather, Carol (McDaniel) and Larry D. Wells, Liberal, Kan.; a son, Dustin Harrison, Lawson, Mo.; three brothers, Tony Herbinger, Lamar, Mo., Rick Herbinger, Lafayette, Tenn., and Alan McDaniel, Liberal, Kan.; a sister, Marcy Higgins, Pratt, Kan.; three stepsisters, Robin Marti, Carthage, Mo., and Joy Blankinship and Theresa Swank, both of Independence, Mo., and a stepbrother, Tom Gartman, Lamar, Mo.
Ms. Rush was born Feb. 22, 1964, in Girard, Kan., to Jackie D. and Carol D. (McCormack) Herbinger. She was a former resident of Liberal, Kan., and Lamar, Mo., before moving to Groom. Her hobbies were flower arranging and crafts.
