PATRICK IRVIN LEER
JOPLIN - Services will be held at 3 p.m. today (Wednesday), at Mason Woodward Mortuary in Joplin, for Patrick Irvin Leer, 42, who died Nov. 21, 2003, after a brief illness.
Survivors include his mother, Freida Leer, Nevada; a son, Joshua Myler, Nevada; three sisters, Pam Kelly, Lamar, Diane Dighero, Nevada, and Linda Reeves, Grand Junction, Colo.; three brothers, Larry Leer, Lamar, Rick Morris, Polo, Ill., and Alfred Leer, Nevada; 15 nieces and nephews; 13 great-nieces and nephews and a great-great-niece.
Mr. Leer had resided most of his life in Nevada, and attended Nevada High School.
He had been employed by Norman Sheet Metal of Nevada since April, 1987.
JOHN I. PARKER
MINDENMINES - Services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday), at Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, Kan., for John I. Parker, 80, Mindenmines, who died at 2:25 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center, Pittsburg, Kan.
Rev. Dan Moss and Father Thomas Stroot will officiate.
Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, Mindenmines, Mother of God Church, Oswego/Sacred Heart, Chetopa, and Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Fund, in care of Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, Kan. 66762.
Survivors include his wife, Norella Parker, of the home; a son, Father Larry Parker, Pittsburg, Kan.; a daughter, Judith Fast, Mindenmines, and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Mr. Parker was born May 22, 1923, at Nashville, Mo., to Charles Asher and Lilly Pearl (Polston) Parker.
He was a graduate of Mindenmines High School and attended Pittsburg State University.
He was a lifelong resident of Mindenmines.
He was a veteran, serving in the United States Navy during World War II.
He owned and operated the Bank of Minden for many years.
He served as president until his retirement, at which time he became vice-president, a position he held currently.
He was also a partner in the Parker-Simoncie Insurance Agency.
Mr. Parker was a member of the First Christian Church of Mindenmines, and a former member of the Missouri Bankers Association.
He married Norella J. Korosee on June 7, 1947, at Pittsburg, Kan.
CHESTER ALBERT SAWYER
LAKE ANNETTE - Services were held under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home for Chester Albert Sawyer, 74, Lake Annette, who died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Mo.
Survivors include two sisters, Phyllis Haskins, Nevada, and Bonnie Johnston, Lamar.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
Mr. Sawyer was born Aug. 2, 1929, in Hale, Colo., to Chauancy D. and Olive V. (Spaulding) Sawyer.
He was a purchaser with Miller Compressing Company.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He had a masters degree in Music and was a pianist.
LUCY ALICE HATCHER
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 7, at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Colorado Springs, for Lucy Alice Carns Hatcher, 89, Colorado Springs, who died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at Brighton Gardens Nursing Home in Colorado Springs.
Arrangements were under the direction of Memorial Gardens Cemetery and Funeral Home.
Survivors include a nephew, David Heckman, Middleton, Idaho, and a niece, Ansa Heckman, Boulder.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Heckman and Francis Hollowell, and a nephew, Gary Heckman.
Mrs. Hatcher was born Oct. 27, 1914, at Jasper, Mo., to Charles and Dora Carns.
She was a 1933 graduate of Jasper High School, and graduated from St. Johns School of Nursing, Joplin, Mo., in 1936.
After becoming a registered nurse, she worked at McCune Brooks Hospital, Carthage, Mo.
She moved to Colorado Springs in 1944, where she became a public health nurse for El Paso County, retiring in 1976.
Mrs. Hatcher and her husband retired to Lakeland, Fla., in 1976, and later resided in Lamar, Mo., before returning to Colorado Springs in 1999.
She was a life member of the Colorado Public Health Association, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs.
She married Thomas Hatcher in 1940. He died in 2002.
LANDON RAY BASLEE
LAMAR - Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, at the Lamar United Methodist Church, for Landon R. Baslee, 2, Lamar, who died at 5:15 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2004, at his parent's home.
Pastor Bob Petersen will officiate.
Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Sylvania.
Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Jason Morgan, Craig Baslee, Micah Petersen, Brett Jenkins, Gary Banwart and John McClane.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
Survivors include his parents, Kevin and Julie Baslee, and sister, Jenna, of the home; paternal grandparents, Teal and Joan Baslee, Lockwood; paternal great-grandparents, Arthur and Ruth Banwart, Lamar; maternal grandparents, Jim and Jackie Morgan, Lamar, and maternal great-grandmother, Zelda Metsinger, Lamar.
Landon was born Feb. 21, 2002, to Kevin and Julie (Morgan) Baslee.
GERTRUDE "JEAN" S. SCOTT
GOLDEN CITY - A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Golden City, for Gertrude "Jean" S. Scott, 85, Golden City, who died at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the Bethesda Dilworth in St. Louis.
The Rev. Robert Scott officiated.
Arrangements were under the direction of Pugh Funeral Home, Golden City. Musical selection was "How Great Thou Art".
Survivors include a son, Ronald Scott, St. Louis; a stepdaughter, Thelma Gunter, Bakersfield, Calif.; a brother, Harold Stone, Troy, Mich.; a sister, Dorothy Primm, Southfield, Mich.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Scott was born Feb. 16, 1919, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Samuel and Sylvia (Hochheiser) Stone.
She was a graduate of Hazel Park High School in Michigan.
She had moved from Sedalia to Lawrence County in 1952, and finally to Golden City in 1972.
She was a LPN at the Missouri State Chest Hospital in Mt. Vernon from 1972 until 1980 when she retired.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Golden City.
She married Ira Hines Scott on March 14, 1942, in Detroit, Mich.
He died Nov. 7, 1992.
THOMAS MARSHALL O'SULLIVAN
LAMAR - Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, at the Lamar United Methodist Church, for Thomas M. O'Sullivan, 82, Lamar, who died at 6:55 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2004, at Freeman Hospital West, Joplin.
The Rev. Tom Sullenger officiated.
Burial was in Lake Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to LIFE, Barton County Community Trust Fund, St. Paul's School of Theology, or the Lamar United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Betty O'Sullivan, of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Linda O'Sullivan, Tom Jr. and Maria O'Sullivan, and Mike and Jennifer O'Sullivan, all of Lamar; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Tom Thieman and Katie and Randy Day, both of Lamar; two sisters, Mildred Clifford, St. Louis, and Mary Rugh, Wright City; a niece and her husband, Karen and Ron Wegener, Lamar; a nephew and his wife, Mike and Kay O'Sullivan, Lamar; 24 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Peggy Hillman and Patty Riegel; an infant son, and a great-grandson, Ethan Kelly Hull.
Mr. O'Sullivan was born Dec. 19, 1921, in Doe Run, to Daniel and Katie (Williams) O'Sullivan.
He had resided in Barton County for the past 40 years.
He was founder and CEO of O'Sullivan Industries Inc. and O'Sullivan Properties in Lamar.
He was a member of the Lamar United Methodist Church where he served on several boards, and was active in the Lamar Rotary Club, Lamar Masonic Lodge No. 292, Chamber of Commerce, Lamar Country Club, NFIB and former Lamar School board and director at Lamar Bank and Trust.
He was also a pilot.
He married Betty Rhea Liesmann on July 14, 1940, in Hillsboro.
