Nettie Meyer, 55, of Kansas City, Mo., passed away Thursday, April 20, 2000, at her home.
Funeral services are 10:45 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit, with burial in Floral Hills East Cemetery, Lee’s Summit.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Nettie was born to Charles William Sr. and Carrie Marie Trainor Penning on Oct. 27, 1944.
She lived in the Kansas City area all of her life.
She is preceded by two brothers, Bill Penning and David Penning.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Violet and Raymond Hill, Kansas City; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Jo “Sis” Mountain, Lee’s Summit, and Carrie and George Mallory, North Kansas City, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

FRANCIS LEE RODERICK
Francis Lee Roderick, 64, of Lee’s Summit passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at Research Medical Center.
Funeral services were 1 p.m. Friday, April 21, at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, with burial in Floral Hills East Cemetery.
Friends called 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at the chapel.
Francis was born Aug. 7, 1935, in Manhattan, Kan.
He was a graduate of the College of Emporia.
He worked as a dispatcher and in sales in the lumber industry.
He was a member of the Lee’s Summit Jaycees.
He was also president of the Jackson County Fair board where he directed the rodeo each year.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan “Rod” and Marguerite Roderick; and a sister, Naomi Wheeler.
He is survived by two sons, Russell Roderick and Randall Roderick, both of Lee’s Summit; a daughter, Debra Myers, Pleasant Hill, Mo.; a sister, Carolyn Roderick-Rouchka, Lee’s Summit; and three grandchildren, Taylor and Tyler Myers, and Lauren Roderick.

Phyllis Irene Bagby, 88, of Lee’s Summit, died Friday, April 21, 2000, at Pleasant Hill Health Care, Pleasant Hill, Mo.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit, with burial in Lee’s Summit Cemetery.

Marie N. Clark, 94, of John Knox Village, Lee’s Summit, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at the John Knox Village Care Center.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was 9:30 a.m. Monday, April 24, Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church, 130 N.W. Murray Road, Lee’s Summit, with Father James Hart officiating, with interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo.
A memorial service and Rosary were 1 p.m. Monday at the John Knox Village Chapel, 400 N.W. Murray Road.

Marie was born Jan. 16, 1906, in Saline County, and lived in Kansas City, Denver and Marshall, Mo., prior to moving to John Knox Village in 1976.
She worked as a bookkeeper/ office manager at various businesses; in Marshall at the International Shoe Co., L.M. Marcum Co., Leimbrock & Ward Attorneys, the Public Housing Authority and the Chamber of Commerce and at the Crowley-Reuter Stationary Co. in Kansas City.
She was an avid traveler and seldom missed a JKV-sponsored trip.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1942, and her parents, Lena and Henry Niemeier.
She is survived by her cousin, Wanda; her friend, Beth; a nephew, James E. Clark, Jr. and family; Calabasas, Calif.; and many other cousins. Marie’s wishes were to thank her faithful housekeepers, Ann and Wendy, from Lifestyle Services; and her many JKV friends and caring employees who helped her through the years.

Perleta was born Feb. 28, 1938, in Greenwood.
She was a member of the Greenwood Christian Church, and past member of the Greenwood Park Board.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ray L. Young; her mother, Irene Young; and a brother, Pat Young.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Meador, Greenwood; a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Amanda Malm, Raytown, Mo.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lisa and Doug Murdock, Blue Springs, Lorri and Mike Noland, Lawson, MO., and Linda James, Blue Springs; a step-daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Dave Potter, Belton, Mo.; a sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and George Duncan, Independence; and nine grandchildren, Joel, Eric, Brandon, Anna, Patrick, Abbie, Ashley, Jeremy and Andrew.

MORRIS EUGENE VARNS
Morris Eugene Varns, 78, of Kansas City, Mo., died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at Lee’s Summit Hospital.
Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Mo., with graveside service.

Mr. Varns was born July 20, 1921, in Spruce, Mo.
He was united in marriage to Orma Jean Hurt in 1942 in Nevada, Mo.
He was a carpenter by trade.
He helped build Fort Leonard Wood and Camp Crowder in 1940.
He was drafted into the Army in 1943, and was sent to Germany where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
He was with the 312th Engineers in the 87th Division when he returned in 1945.
After the war he went back into the construction business, building homes in Raytown, Independence and Lakewood areas.
In 1980, he retired after working for Barnhart Construction for 15 years.
He was a member of the Blue Ridge Methodist Church, and was active with the Handicapped Scout Troop for 29 years.
He was a member of Local No. 61 for 58 years.
Morris loved to travel and to spend time at his lake home fishing.
He loved the Colorado mountains where he fished for trout.
He also loved gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Casual and Georgia Varns; and his sister, Kathryn McDaniel.
He is survived by his wife, Orma Jean; a son, Stephen Varns; a sister and brother-in-law, Rozanne and Ralph Banks, Warsaw, Mo.

CLAY A. PEACE
Clay Allen “Cap” Peace, 83, of Grain Valley, Mo., passed away peacefully with his family by his side, Friday, April 21, 2000, at Research Medical Center.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, at Webb-Freer Funeral Home, 205 S. 17th St., Blue Springs, Mo., with the Rev. Robert Moffiet officiating, and burial in Floral Hills East Cemetery, Lee’s Summit.

Mr. Peace was born Aug. 27, 1916, to Isaac and Maude Peace.
During World War II, he supported the war movement by working at Sheffield Steel.
He worked most of his life as a farmer and dairyman, raising cattle, hogs and grain.
He served as a board member for FHA and the Federal Land Bank, and was former treasurer for the National Farmers Organization.
Cap set an example to his family through his strength, courage, perseverance and honesty, as well as his great sense of humor.
He felt a person’s word and their handshake were their two most important qualities.
Mr. Peace was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Harriett Gott.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine, of the home; a son, Thomas C. Peace, Grain Valley; three daughters, Beverly J. Davis, Santa Rosa, Calif., Barbara J. Willis, Lee’s Summit, and Susan L. Hurlock, Grain Valley; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Cap’s family would like to express their deep appreciation for the excellent care and compassion given him at Research by his doctors, Intensive Care Unit nurses, and his dialysis nurses.
