Judith E. Gerken, Lincoln
Judith Elaine Gerken, 60, of Lincoln, born Oct. 1, 1946, in St. Louis, a daughter of Roy A. and Frieda E. Wunderlich Moeller. On Dec. 12, 1964, in St. Louis, she was married, she moved to a farm in Lincoln. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Mary Martha Circle. She was a mail carrier for the Lincoln Post Office then transferred to the Warsaw Post Office, retiring after several years of service.
She dedicated a lot of her time working on the family farm. She was an animal lover, caring for all of her pets, especially her cats. For the past 13 years, she loved spending time laughing and visiting with her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents.
Also surviving are a daughter Jennifer Weaver, and her husband, Scott, of Warsaw; a son, Jamie Gerken, of Lincoln; a sister, Barbara Lea Mehrens, of Lincoln; and two granddaughters, Erica and Mackenzie Weaver, both of Warsaw.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln, with the Rev. Leonard Poppe officiating. Pallbearers will be Mark Eifert, Gary Eifert, Doug Long, Brian Eifert, Fred Gruhn and Bobby Joe Mehrens Jr. Wesley Eifert will be an honorary pallbearer. Burial will be Immanuel died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, at her home.
She was married to Charles F. Shepard, who Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Donald J. Allcorn officiating. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Friends may sign the memorial book between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Friday at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home.
Irene Spears, Sedalia
Irene Spears, 89, of Sedalia, born Oct. 16, 1917, in Proctor, a daughter of Henry and Josephine Bybee Earnest. On Sept. 3, 1944, in Olathe, Kan., she was died May 21, 1971.
She lived in Marshall when she was young, and then moved to the Sedalia area. She was a graduate of Versailles High School. After graduating, she attended the Boonville School of Nursing, where she received her registered nurse degree. She returned to Versailles and worked with Dr. Gunn, attending house calls and working at the clinic.
After her marriage, she moved to Sedalia and started to work at Bothwell Hospital Central Supply in 1954. She then transferred to the floor as a nurse, and later became director of nursing. She held that position for 28 years, until her retirement in October 1982. She enjoyed sewing for her children and grandchildren, playing bingo, baking, reading and playing the slot machines at the casino.
Surviving are a daughter, Leona Trout, and her husband, Bill, of Sedalia; a son, Robert Spears Jr., and his wife, Karolyn, of Sedalia; a stepdaughter, Darlene Brooks, and her husband, John, of Sedalia; four grandchildren, Tammy Bremer and William McNeil Trout Jr., both of Liberty, Christopher Spears, of Battlefield, and Travis Spears, of Kansas City; and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by five brothers; and a grandson, Mark Allen Trout.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ted Francis officiating. Pallbearers will be Chris Spears, Travis Spears, Neil Trout, Kevin Bremer, Kyle Bremer and Eddie Bergman. Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Bremer, Hunter Spears, Shelby Spears, Ron Ditzfeld, Richard Stewart and Robert Trout. Burial will be in Crown Hill died Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, at St. John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield.
He was married to Eunice Harris, who survives of the home.
He retired from Colgate Palmolive Co. in Kansas City. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of Zack Wheat American Legion Post 624 in Sunrise Beach, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Osage Community Elks Lodge 2705 in Laurie and the Route P Crime Watch.
Also surviving are a son, Kris W. Leiby, and his wife, Julie, of Kearney; a daughter, Janice Halvorsen, of Versailles; two sisters, Jackie Keeper and Faye Potratz, of Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Evan, Kristen, Jessica, Gerald and Joseph; four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel in Laurie. Military honors will be conducted by Zack Wheat American Legion Post 624. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Milferd C. Nolting, Stover
Milferd C. Nolting, 81, of Stover, born Jan. 2, 1926, in rural Stover, a son of August P. and Rebecca Stucker Nolting. On Aug. 19, 1956, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stover, he was Cemetery in Stover, with military rites at graveside. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover, with a prayer service at 6:15 p.m.
The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Paul Lutheran School or St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stover.
Brenda D. McBride, Houstonia
Brenda D. McBride, 44, of Houstonia, born Sept. 26, 1962, in Sedalia, a daughter of Donald Gene and Josephine Carr Carver. On May 23, 1981, in Houstonia, she was Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Humane Society, in care of the funeral home.
James E. Knipp, Smithton
James E. Knipp, 62, of Smithton, born June 9, 1945, in Independence, a son of Frank J. and Marjorie Marie Burnett Knipp.
He had been a member of the Sedalia Lions Club. He was drafted into the Army in 1965. He served with the 11th Aviation Company., 1st Cavalry Division in Vietnam. He received an honorable discharge in June 1967. He returned to Sedalia and worked at Bing’s bakery. He then worked at Frank’s Shoe Repair, which his family owned and operated.
He worked in housekeeping at Four Seasons Living Center and later at Isle of Capri in Boonville. He was an avid gun collector. He also collected Civil War and Coca-Cola memorabilia.
Surviving are three stepchildren, Valerie Schultz, of Sedalia, Brittany Czir and Andrea Czir, both of Joplin; and a brother, Rick Knipp, of Sedalia.
He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Fay Hays.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tony Chapman officiating. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Hays, Walter Paris, Kenneth Davidson, Jeff Blankenship, Kenny Blankenship, Lynn Staus and Joe Schultz. Burial will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2591. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
