Jo Ann Young, 1931-2004, Kansas City
Jo Ann Young, 72, of Kansas City, born April 29, 1931, in Sedalia, a daughter of Augustine and Ida Freeland Humphrey. On Aug. 5, 1950, in Sedalia, she was Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Annabelle Renison, 1917-2004, Nelson
Annabelle Renison, 86, of rural Nelson, born Nov. 3, 1917, in Saline County, a daughter of C.M. Sellers, Jr., and Blanche Walker Sellers. On July 30, 1939, in Sweet Springs, she was died Aug. 11, 1997.
Mrs. Renison was a lifelong member of New Salem Baptist Church at the Marshall Junction where she had served as financial secretary for 29 years. She also served as Sunday school superintendent and had taught Sunday school at the church. She was also a member of the Women's Missionary Union.
Surviving are two daughters, June Elaine Hieronymus, of rural Nelson, and Deanna Beth Harbit, Windsor; a brother, Frank Sellers, Sedalia; and a sister, Ruth Hackson, Marshall; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with the Rev. Don Simmons officiating. Burial will be at the Ridge Park died Monday, March 29, 2004, at the Moniteau Care Center in California.
She was married Joseph B. Oligschlaeger, who Cemetery in Tipton.
Family will receive friends after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Tipton. An Altar Sodality Rosary will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday and a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at St. Andrew's School.
The family suggests contributions to St. Andrew's School.
Donald E. Franke, 1940-2004, Warrensburg
Donald E. Franke, 63, of Warrensburg, formerly of Sedalia, born June 20, 1940, in Sedalia, a son of Edward M. and Alphretta Merritt Franke.
Mr. Franke was a member of Sacred Heart Church for several years. He worked for the Army at Fort Riley, Kan., for 15 years as a target device technician. He trained troops from all over the country in machine gun technique for combat and received several commendations for his work. He was a Navy veteran. He was a talented musician and had his own band for several years. He hosted several charity events each year, including the Jerry Lewis Multiple Sclerosis Marathon, where he donated music and food. He received the Tri-County "Musician of the Year" award several times, and the "Bar Owner of the Year" award twice. He also donated his time cooking for Open Door Ministries in Junction City, Kan.
Surviving are two sisters, Barbara L. Doty, of Sedalia, and Elizabeth Morris, of Cordova, Tenn.; 21 nieces and nephews, including Eddie Franke, of Sedalia, and Jana Elliott, of Lee's Summit; 30 great-nieces and nephews; and four great-great-nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, and four brothers, Edward Franke, his twin brother, Ronald Franke, Robert Franke and James Franke.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at Memorial Park died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.
She was married to William Alfred Birge, who married to C.J. "Mac" McNulty, who survives of the home.
Mrs. McNulty was a member of Providence Baptist Church, where she played piano from 1967-1996. She loved cooking, sewing and playing the piano. She owned and operated a beauty shop in Tipton for more than 30 years. She opened the shop in 1965.
Also surviving are two daughters, Connie E. Welpman and Etta Hartley, both of Sedalia; two sons, Keith Birge, of Jefferson City, and Terry Birge, of Lee's Summit; two stepdaughters, Donna Dolan, of Washington, and Ella "Dollie" Hayes, of Warrensburg; a stepson, Jim McNulty, of Springfield, Ill.; a brother, Cyrus Delmar Ferguson Jr.; a sister, Dora E. Fassler; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Elsie Maxine Birge; a stepson, Jacob McNulty; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Asahel Albert Ferguson and Bobby Ferguson; a stepdaughter, Debbie McNulty; and three sisters, Beulah Hickman, Louise Gilbert and Marie Wehmeir.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Providence Baptist Church, northeast of Smithton, with the Rev. Farrie Cole, Jr. and the Rev. Bruce Campbell officiating. Pallbearers will be John Williamson, Bob Edwards, Frankie Gilbert, Wayne Ferguson and Ben Cooper. Burial will be in Highland Sacred Gardens. Friends may call after noon Sunday at Heckart/Gillespie Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Providence Baptist Church or the Diabetes Association.
Dorothy M. Martin, 1925-2004, Kansas City
Dorothy Marie Martin, 78, of Kansas City, born March 26, 1925, in Cooper County, a daughter of Ernest Lee and Verna Bollhe Balke Varner. On June 12, 1953, in Kansas City, she was died May 25, 1971.
Mrs. Martin grew up in the Florence community. She later moved to Kansas City, where she lived most of her life. She worked at the Wilson packing plant in Kansas City, Kan., for 32 years and at Trinity Lutheran Hospital in Kansas City for 10 years. She enjoyed going to garage sales.
Surviving are a son, Larry Martin, of Kansas City; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, Paul Varner; and a daughter, Mary.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Meisenheimer Funeral Chapel in Tipton, with the Rev. Paul Posey officiating. Burial will be in Syracuse died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, in Mesa, Ariz.
He was married to Barbara Jane Allen, who survives of the home.
Mr. Droege was raised in the Valley City area. He then moved to Concordia, where he lived most of his life. He was a 1966 graduate of Concordia High School. He attended Highland Community Junior College in Highland, Kan., and graduated from Central Missouri State University in 1972.
He was a junior and senior high school physical education teacher in Sweet Springs for the last 23 years. He coached several sport activities at Sweet Springs High School and the surrounding areas. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Concordia, where he was a trustee and an usher. He was a member of several civic clubs and participated in several activities through the years.
Also surviving are two sons, Jeff Droege, of Concordia, and Tim Droege, of Blue Springs; two brothers, Marion Droege, of Warrensburg, and Marvin Droege, of Blue Springs; a sister, Darlene Thompson, of Columbia; and a grandson.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Lee Hagan officiating. Pallbearers will be Elbert Bredehoeft, Phil Keeney, Jim Reid, Mick Kreisel, Lonnie Fischer and Gary Inman. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday at the church, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
