Nancy C. Caldwell, 1917-2003, Sedalia
Nancy Catherine Caldwell, 86, of Sedalia, born May 8, 1917, in Eldon, a daughter of Edward Collier and Wilba H. Sidebotham Shelton. On July 5, 1940, she death.
Mrs. Caldwell attended school in Eldon and Kansas City. She later graduated from Stephens College in Columbia and Central Methodist College in Fayette with majors in music education and English.
As a minister's wife, Mrs. Caldwell served in many capacities and areas of interest and in later years was active in the literacy program.
Surviving are two sons, Marvin Caldwell, of San Diego, Calif., and Edward Caldwell, of Sedalia; a brother, John Shelton, of Sedalia; and two grandsons.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Caldwell, and a brother, E.O. Shelton.
The body was cremated. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at her home with the Rev. Richard Placte officiating.
Graveside services will be later in Memorial Park died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at his farm near Pilot Grove.
He was Cemetery in Clear Creek.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Pilot Grove. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church, where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m.
The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Joseph Church in Pilot Grove.
Carl Tomkins Jr. , 1923-2003, Sedalia
Carl Tomkins Jr., 80, of Sedalia, born July 7, 1923, in Stockport, Iowa, a son of Carl and Irene Brown Tomkins.
Mr. Tomkins served in the Navy aboard the USS Savanna during World War II. After the war, he worked for Lockheed-Martin in California before retiring in 1983.
Surviving are three daughters, Terrese Tressler, of Sedalia, Sandra Galloway, of Battle Creek, Neb., and Holly Long, of California state; a sister, Joyce, of Iowa; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Barker Tomkins, in 1983, and a sister, Vivian.
The burial will be private.
Memorial contributions can be made to the family in care of Ewing-Schutte and Semler Funeral Home.
Eugene C. 'Gene' Haas, 1933-2003, Warsaw
Eugene C. "Gene" Haas, 70, of Warsaw, born Feb. 11, 1933, in Ness City, Kan., a son of Paul and Margaret Depperschmidt Haas. On Oct. 27, 1956, in Herington, Kan., he married, Dr. Haas and his wife lived in Manhattan, Kan., before moving to Fairway, Kan. They moved to Mission, Kan., where he practiced dentistry for 30 years, before retiring in 1999. Following his retirement, they moved to Warsaw where Dr. Haas designed and built their home on the lake.
He enjoyed woodcarving, painting, lake life and spending time with his family. He served in the Army in Germany during the Korean War. After dental school, he was a member of the Army Reserves for more than 20 years and was named commander of the 486th Medical Detachment in Kansas City. He retired in 1993 as a colonel in the Dental Corp.
Dr. Haas was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church of Warsaw, American Dental Association, Flying Dentists, American Organization of Pilot's Association, Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, Mid-Century Dental Study Club and the Kansas City Woodcarver's Association.
Also surviving are four sons, Mark Haas, of Louisburg, Kan., Scott Haas, of Shawnee, Kan., Bruce Haas, of Paola, Kan., David Haas, of Olathe, Kan.; two daughters, Susan Brown, of Overland Park, Kan., Becky Alexander, of Shawnee, Kan.; three brothers, Larry Haas and Wayne Haas, both of Boise, Idaho, Bill Haas, of Bella Visa, Ark.; and 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
She was married to Leo A. Eimer, who survives of the home.
Mrs. Eimer was a homemaker. She formerly worked at La'Ziers cosmetics in the shipping department. She was a Beanie Babies collector. She enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren.
Also surviving are four daughters, Patricia Gunn, of Sedalia, Mary Elizabeth Luttrell, of Windyville, Vickie Ebaugh, of Memphis, Tenn., and Pam Ebaugh, of Waterloo, Iowa; two sons, Terry Ebaugh, of Marion, Iowa, and Bob Ebaugh, of Salem; a brother, Dale Kennedy, of Excelsior Springs; a sister, Ann Oberst, of Gladstone; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a sister, Betty Quick.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Ewing-Schutte & Semler Funeral Home. Burial will be private at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the family in care of the funeral home.
Dora L. Willis, 1913-2003, Kansas City
Dora Lee Willis, 90, of Kansas City, formerly of Sedalia, born June 3, 1913, in Georgetown, a daughter of Arthur and Lucinda Wilson English. On Aug. 8, 1933, she was died Aug. 2, 1992.
Mrs. Willis lived in Sedalia most of her life. She was a devoted missionary, serving at Grissman Temple CME Church in Kansas City.
Surviving are two daughters, Louise Whitfield and Dorothy Henderson, both of Kansas City; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by four brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Olin Shurn and the Rev. Steven Cousin officiating. Pallbearers will be Charles Willis, Nathaniel Newbill, Sidney Whitfield Jr., Donnie Jones, Kenneth Henderson and Lee Gay. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Saturday at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel, where the family will receive friends from noon until service time Saturday.
