Elva Jarman Swigert
Elva Jarman Swigert, 83, died at 3:54 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, in the Parkview Health Care Facility. She was born Oct. 11, 1915, the daughter of William T. and Fannie M. LaRose Landreth. A homemaker, she was a native of Polk County and was a lifetime resident of Bolivar. Elva was saved at an early age and was a member of the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Bolivar. She remained a faithful member as long as her health permitted. On Jan. 20, 1934, she was united in marriage to Alva Jarman. To this union were born eight children. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Alva Jarman and Lonnie Swigert; one daughter, Hallie; three brothers, two sisters, a stepson, A.J. Jarman; and an infant granddaughter, Cheryl Jarman. Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Lloyd and her husband, Donnie, Willard, and Donna Dickson and her husband, Wayne, Springfield; five sons, Dee Jarman and his wife, Jerry, Kansas City; Allen Jarman and his wife, Peggy, Raytown; Bill Jarman and Mike Jarman, both of Bolivar; and Rick Jarman and his wife, Marsha, Springfield; also 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and Niki III, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Elva was a wonderful friend and neighbor, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed going to the rodeo in Oklahoma with her friend Harry Smith. She loved being at the sale barn on Saturdays to visit with everyone. One of her favorite things to do was sing "Happy Birthday" to anyone she knew on the radio, where she was known as "Biscuits and Gravy." Services were Friday, Dec. 11, in the Butler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Norman Culbertson officiating. Music was provided by Norman and Jewell Culbertson. Burial was in the Bolivar City Cemetery. Casketbearers were Dee Jarman, Allen Jarman, Mike Jarman, Rick Jarman, Wayne Dickson and Garry Allen Mattox. Honorary casketbearers were Johnny Jarman, Kenneth Meadors, Garold Mattox and Robert Wright.
Alva Imogene White
Alva Imogene White, 68, Bolivar, died at 6:40 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at Citizens Memorial Health Care Facility after a lingering illness. She was born at Trenton, the daughter of Wilmuth L. Hunt and Mabel Imogene Clark Hunt. She was the widow of Charles White, who died in 1997. She had been a clerical worker in the accounting department for a department store. Surviving are two daughters, Pamela Hodge of Pittsburg and Patty Kidwell of San Diego, Calif.; a brother, Dewey Hunt of Kansas City, Kan.; two sisters, Barbara Coleman of Kansas City, Kan., and Evelyn Griffin, Kansas City; and three grandchildren. Arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced by Butler Funeral Home.
Dianne Williams
Dianne Denise Williams, 44, Kansas City, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, in Baptist Medical Center, Kansas City. She was born at Salina, Kan., the daughter of Robert and Eileen Brumbaugh Dietrich Haston. Surviving are her husband, Bobby Williams; a son, Jason Mathias, and a daughter, Cydney Jane-Ann, both of the home; her mother, Eileen Haston; a brother, Robert Dietrich; and her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Brumbaugh. Services were Sunday, Dec. 27, in Pitts Chapel with the Rev. Donnie Lightfoot officiating. Burial was in the Missionary Baptist Cemetery, Pittsburg.
Dorothy M. Wright
Dorothy M. Wright, 86, Pittsburg, died at 11:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, in her home following a long illness. Arrangements were incomplete at press time but will be announced by Pitts Chapel.
Jeanie M. Bellew
Jeanie Marie Bellew, 58, Collins, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, in Big Spring Care Center, Humansville. The daughter of Steffie and Lillian Essix Cress, she was born Sept. 3, 1940, at Winston-Salem, N.C. She was married to Allen Bellew, who preceded her in death. She had worked as a homemaker, secretary and healthcare giver. She was of the Lutheran faith. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Doris Bellew, Collins; a stepdaughter, Alice Bray, Independence; a sister, Diane Moser, Louisville, N.C.; a brother, Thomas Cress, Walnut Cove, N.C.; two cousins, May Louise Beaver and Joyce Ann Hewlett, both of Independence; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The body was donated to the University of Kansas Medical School. Arrangements were under the direction of Murray Funeral Home, Humansville.
Wilbur L. Brobisky
Wilbur L. Brobisky, 80, Springfield, formerly of Bolivar, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, in Cox Medical Center North following a short illness. He was born Nov. 2, 1918, in Bolivar to William Lee and Ella Mae Fink Brobisky. He served in the U.S. Army for 20 years and saw service during World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Walter Gott, Springfield, and a brother, James A. Brobisky, Arcadia, Calif. He was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet Elizabeth "Sally" Stalker Brobisky on Aug. 22, 1994. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Pitts Chapel.
Frankie J. Van Camp
Frankie Joe Van Camp, 63, of Bolivar, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, at St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield, following a nine-month battle with lung cancer. He was born Nov. 21, 1935, in Avery, Okla., the son of Orval and Georgena Van Camp. He was united in marriage to Shirley M. Hale on April 14, 1960, in Stockton. He was retired from Associated Wholesale Grocers Warehouse in Springfield and was a member of the Bolivar United Methodist Church. Frankie is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home; his only son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Cristi Van Camp of Monett; two grandchildren, Spencer and Morgan Van Camp, Monett; a brother, Fred and his wife Mosel Van Camp, Jefferson City; their daughter, Michelle and her husband, Tommy Lee, and their children, Megan, Ryan and Tevon of Miller; Fred and Mosel's sons, John Van Camp of Springfield; Campt. Bret Van Camp and his wife, Lisa, and their son A.J. of Crocker; a brother, Jim and his wife, Pat Van Camp, and their children, Cara and Pfc. Kristian Van Camp, St. Louis. He was preceded in death by his parents, A. Orval Van Camp and F. Georgena Van Camp. Frank was an easy-going, good man who loved traveling to Bluegrass Festivals and Branson. He was a very devoted grandpa and especially loved spending time with his grandson, whether it was just sitting and talking or watching him play soccer, he was always there. He was a loving son, husband, dad and grandpa and will be deeply missed. Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 22, in the Butler Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Hayes, the Rev. Harold Hendrickson and the Rev. Wesley Ummel officiating. Musical soloists were Bill Jones and Molly Jones, with Rose Roweton as the pianist. Burial was in the Mt. View Cemetery at Polk. Willis E. Carneal
Willis E. "Wick" Carneal, 85, Bolivar, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, in Parkview Health Care Facility following a long illness. He was born Aug. 30, 1913, in Dunnegan to Edward Jefferson and Effie Dean Nickels Carneal. On June 30, 1946, he was united in marriage to Irene M. Stewart. He was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Irene, in May 1998; four brothers and two sisters. Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Donna and Gerald Hartley of Aldrich; three brothers, Donald Carneal of Lowry City, Glen Carneal of Amazonia and Finis Hammons of Bolivar; two sisters, Lola Dennis of Osceola and his twin Lillis Watkins of Humansville; two grandchildren, Dennis Wilson and Lynette Copeland and her husband, Larry; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Kahlie Copeland. Services were Friday, Jan. 29, in Pitts Chapel with Bro. Keith Frieze officiating. Burial followed in Crestview Memorial Garden Cemetery. Pallbearers were Beuford Curl, Roy Maberry, Sam Landis, Vic Stewart, Jeff Ball and David Hamlet.
Villa A. Cordill
Villa Agnes Cordill, 91, Malvern, Ark., formerly of Humansville, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at Stillmeadow Convalescent Center. The daughter of Thomas Andrew and Rosa L. Ambercrombie Shelnut, she was born March 22, 1907, at Mabelvale, Ark. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her brother, James Shelnut, Traskwood, Ark., three grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at Dunnegan Cemetery with the Rev. Rouse officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Murray Funeral Home, Humansville. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. this evening (Wednesday) in the funeral home.
William S. Devine
William Sheldon Devine, 75, Humansville, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, in Parkview Health Care Facility. The son of Andrew J. and Lena Ellen Mullen Devine, he was born Oct. 1, 1923, at Wallin, Iowa. A resident of Humansville since 1986, he was a retired farmer. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, spending two and a half years as a prisoner of war in Germany. Survivors include five children, Pat Vasser, Enid, Okla.; Marleen Eastin, Goltry, Okla.; Pam Black, Yuma, Colo.; Dennis Devine, Sanderson, Fla.; and David Devine, Mesa, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The body was donated to the University of Missouri Medical School at Columbia. Arrangements were under the direction of Murray Funeral Home, Humansville.
