Ivy L. Delcour
Ivy L. Delcour of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2001 at the age of 67 years.
Ivy was born at Cook Station, Missouri on June 16, 1933, to the late James and Anna (Eaton) Delcour.
He was raised there and had later graduated from Steelville High School. Ivy then attended Hannibal-LaGrange College for two years. He then was employed for a time with McDonald-Douglas in St. Louis. He later married Wanda Edgar and to this marriage three children were born. He returned to school and completed his Masters Degree in Animal Husbandry from the University of Missouri at Columbia.
After college, Ivy worked for the former MFA Insurance Company as a District Manager. He later became employed with Fidelity Telephone Company as a System Salesman and retired from there in 1995.
On July 25, 1992, he was married to Connie Winthorse Licklider and made their home in the Sullivan area near Spring Bluff.
Ivy was a board member of the Sullivan C-2 School District for nine years and a member of Sullivan Lodge #69 A.F. and A.M. and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sullivan.
He was also a member of the Sullivan Country Club and loved the game of golf. He also found pleasure working on his farm and in his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Connie, one son, Jason Delcour, two daughters, Lisa Brown of Columbia, Missouri and Lori Delcour of Houston, Texas; one step-son, Ryan Licklider of Sullivan; one step-daughter Sara Garrett of Sullivan; three brothers, Kenneth Delcour of St. Louis, Missouri, Eldon Delcour of Rolla, Missouri and Chester Delcour of Steelville, Missouri; one sister Rosabel Toon of Rolla; one grandchild, three step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ivy was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Delcour.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 16, 2001 from the First Presbyterian Church in Sullivan with Pastor Dale Jackson and Pastor David Cartee officiating.
Interment was in North Lawn Cemetery, Salem, Missouri.
Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.
Estella Elizabeth Farrar
Estella Elizabeth Farrar (nee Dulany) was born Wednesday, March 16, 1927, at Lenox, Mo., a daughter of the late Walter Calvin Dulany and Christena Elizabeth Dulany (nee Brown). She entered eternal rest Sunday, January 14, 2001, at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center, Sullivan, Mo., at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 28 days.
On December 5, 1945, at the home of Rev. Sam Roper, Steelville, Mo., in the living room by the fireplace, Estella was united in marriage to Raymond Harold Farrar, son of Albert and Lena (Brown) Farrar. Six daughters and one son were born to this union. Raymond preceded her in death, November 25, 1965. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Gail Elizabeth Hutson, September 21, 1986.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted children, Barbara and husband Stanley Berry, Tena and husband Ronald Slovensky, Sandy and husband Gene Brinkley, Tim Farrar and wife Sandy, all of Steelville, Mo., Alice and husband Albert Archuleta of Columbia, Mo., Tammy and husband Joe Dean of Granite City, Illinois, son-in-law Rainey Hutson of Cuba, Mo.; one brother, James Dulany and wife Marjorie of Steelville, Mo.
Eleven grandchildren, Jim Hutson and wife Christina of Sandy, Utah, Reneé and husband Bryan Mayhan, Anthony Archuleta and Alex Archuleta, all of Columbia, Mo., Elizabeth Slovensky and partner Lisa Edwards, Margarett Slovensky, Leah and Lindsay Farrar, all of Steelville, Mo., Jennifer Berry of Stover, Mo., Joseph and Amanda Dean of Granite City, Illinois, Karen Marshall and husband Steve of Rolla, Mo., Reneé Brinkley of San Francisco, California.
One aunt Louise Hanson of St. Louis of St. Louis, Mo.; five great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Jeffrey, and Lena Hutson of Sandy, Utah, Nicholas and Garrett Marshall of Rolla, Mo.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Clark and Virginia Farrar of Cuba, Mo., Myrtle Durant, Mary Wiedemann, both of Sullivan, Mo., Phoebe Cutsforth of Independence, Mo., Thelma and John Vick of Michigan, and Zelma Brimer of Kent, Washington; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
She will be remembered as enjoying indoor and outdoor flowers, western and romance books, and making crafts for the Steelville Presbyterian Church Bazaar. She liked taking short day trips to Elephant Rock, camping trips on the river and lake and most recently playing Bingo and attending church services at Gibbs Care Center. She was also a member of Gibbs Thrift Extension Club and the Garden Club.
Her great love for all children, not just her own kids, was evidenced by her twenty-five years as a Teacher's Aid in the Steelville R-3 School. She was very proud of Steelville R-3 School and would always refer to it as "our school" with a warmth and tenderness in her voice. She touched a lot of lives during this employment. As she stood on the corner helping the kids go back and forth to their school bus she often wished that she had a bigger house and could afford to take more children into her home to love.
She was a very strong individual as evidenced when losing her husband, she raised their seven children alone. She instilled in her children the values of working hard, being responsible citizens, and caring for their fellow man. After the death of her daughter, Gail, she cared for Gail's children and was always there for them. She had a tremendous love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and became a second mother to her six son-in-laws and daughter-in-law.
Her favorite remark was "People talk to me about their daughter-in-law's, but they don't know what its like until you have six son-in-laws." Her daughter-in-law, son-in-laws, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren could always get away with more mischief than her own children could and she knew them in their own special way. She had a tremendous sense of humor as evidenced by the fun that she had with her children. Her children's friends were always welcome in her home and they also enjoyed a lot of good times with the family.
She endured a lot of pain and suffering and hid it from her family and friends. Even when she felt the worst, she would remind them of menial tasks, such as taking out the trash, feeding the birds, and watering the flowers, and choosing her outfit for the next day.
Her most recent companion was her white poodle, Cleo, also known as "My Baby Girl," who she loved dearly and was a source of great comfort to her.
Estella Elizabeth Farrar lay in state 2-9 p.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2001, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2001, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Musical selections were provided by vocalist Gary Hardecke, and pianist Sharon Hardecke. Grandson Joseph Dean, sang special hymns and accompanied himself on the guitar.
Committal prayers and interment were in Brown Cemetery, Steelville, Mo. Honoring their mother-in-law as pallbearers were Albert Archuleta, Stanley Berry, Gene Brinkley, Joe Dean, Rainey Hutson and Ronald Slovensky.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo.
Lloyd Joseph DeClue
Lloyd Joseph DeClue, 87, of Cuba and formerly of Leasburg and St. Louis, died Friday, January 5, 2001 at the Phelps County Hospital in Rolla. Mr. DeClue, so of the late Theodore J. DeClue and his wife Ivy, nee Nelson, was born January 29, 1913 at Desoto. He received his education at the St. Louis County public schools, and also attended business school. He served his country honorably during World War II in the United States Navy. On July 10, 1940, he married Irma Dewey. He was of the Catholic faith. For many years, he was employed as a railroad mechanic.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Raymond, and Charles DeClue.
Among his survivors are his wife, Irma; one daughter, Catherine Williams of St. Louis; two grandchildren, Frank and Stephanie; four great-grandchildren, Lanette, Eric, Nicholas, and Melissa; one great-great-grandchild, D. J.; a special family friend, Carol Jones of O'Fallon; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 8, 2001, at Nieburg-Vitt-Thiebes Funeral Home, Pacific, with Rev. Richard Coerver, officiant. Interment was in Sunset Cemetery, Pacific.
Arrangements were in the care of Nieburg-Vitt-Thiebes Funeral Home, Pacific.
Betty Hughes
Betty Hughes nee Beezley was born on Friday, May 27, 1927 in rural Crawford County, Mo. to Levi Beezley and Gerogianna Sweeten Beezley, and passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2001 at Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Mo. at the age of 73 years, 7 months and 20 days.
Betty was a life-long resident of Crawford County. She attended Riverside School near Cuba.
In October 1945 she married Henry Pasch, and to this union four sons were born. On October 10, 1961 she was united in marriage to Herman Hughes in Harrison, Arkansas, and to this union one daughter was born.
She and Herman have lived at the same place on Saddle Club Road for the last 36 years. In addition to her own children, they had an extremely large extended family. Betty enjoyed her grandkids, working in her yard and garden, and growing flowers, except roses.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, one son Donald H. Pasch; two grandchildren, Donna Sue and Donald Eugene Pasch; two sisters, Willetta and Mary; brother-in-law Raymond Hughes; and sister-in-law Ruby Beatt.
Betty is survived by her dear husband Herman Hughes of Cuba; three sons, Steven A. Pasch of Cuba, Mo., Floyd N. Pasch of Farmington, Mo., and John N. Pasch and wife Nancy of St. Peters, Mo.; two daughters, JoAnna Bach and husband Steve of Cuba, Mo. and Linda F. Hughes of Nashville, Tennessee.
Five sisters, Mildred VanPatton of Plato, Mo., Gertrude Schubert of Sullivan, Mo., Irene Seener of Afton, Mo., Mable Bland of Cuba, Bonnalee LeDoux of Valley Park, Mo.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Juanita Hughes of Cuba, Mo., Russ Beatt of St. James, Mo. and Edith and Cordell Callahan of St. James, Mo.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends, all who will sadly miss and fondly remember Betty Hughes.
Visitation for Betty Hughes was held on Thursday, January 18, 2001 from 5-9 p.m. at Hutson Funeral Home in Cuba, Mo.
Funeral Services were held on Friday, January 19, 2001 at 1 p.m. at Hutson Funeral Chapel in Cuba, Mo. with Rev. Mark Smith officiating.
Burial was in the Oak Ridge Cemetery near Cuba, Mo.

Hazel M. Littlejohn
Hazel M. Littlejohn nee Stuard was born on Wednesday, November 25, 1914 in Columbia, Illinois to Charles Stuard and Cecelia Steppig Stuard, and passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2001 at Crawford County Care Center in Cuba, Mo. at the age of 86 years, 1 month and 22 days.
Hazel graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Colombia, Illinois. She later moved to St. Louis, Mo.
As a young adult Hazel professed her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized. On September 7, 1940 she was united in marriage to Otis Wayne Littlejohn at Third Baptist Church in St. Louis, Mo.
Hazel and Wayne served in several churches throughout their marriage. She always loved to sing. They were instrumental in starting a new church in Theodosia, Mo. Currently she was a member of First Baptist Church in Cuba, Mo., where she served as a Sunday School teacher and choir member.
Hazel was a member of the Order of The Eastern Star Chapter #130 of Theodosia, Mo.
Hazel and Wayne owned and operated a resort on the Lake near Theodosia. Hazel loved animals. She used to raise and show horses.
Her husband Wayne preceded her in death on August 9, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother Carl Stuard; one sister-in-law Ruth Schwab.
Those who remain to mourn her passing are her very dear and special friend Gary Branson and wife Ann of Cuba, Mo.; three sisters, Evelyn Wedle of Waterloo, Illinois, Dolores Deffenbaugh and husband Dale of St. Louis, Mo., and Gladys Niccum of St. Louis, Mo.; one sister-in-law Doris Stuard, of St. Louis, Mo.; one brother-in-law Rondle Littlejohn of Isabella, Mo.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends all who will sadly miss and fondly remember Hazel M. Littlejohn.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 17, 2001 at Hutson Funeral Home in Cuba, Mo. from 5 until 9 p.m.
Funeral service was held on Thursday, January 18, 2001 at Hutson Funeral Chapel in Cuba, Mo. at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ed Hamilton officiating. Burial was in the National Cemetery, Jefferson Barracks, Mo.

Roy Kenneth Spurgeon
Roy Kenneth Spurgeon of St. Louis, Mo., was born on April 3, 1925 in Crawford County, Mo. to the union of Virgil William Spurgeon and Tress Pearl (Cason) Spurgeon and passed away on January 15, 2001 at his home in St. Louis, Mo. at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 12 days.
On April 29, 1944 Roy was united in marriage to Izetta Ennis in St. Louis, Mo. They have been happily married for 56 years.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Doris Harris and three brothers, John, Virgil and Ted Spurgeon.
He as a member of the Parkton Assembly of God Church of Barnhart, Mo.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his devoted wife Izetta Spurgeon; two sons Virgil Spurgeon and wife Mary and Travis Ward and wife Linda; one daughter Sue Plunk and husband George; one sister Evelyn Huff and husband John; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Roy was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
Roy Kenneth Spurgeon was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. where funeral services were held on Thursday, January 18, 2001 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Monty Roarke officiating. Interment was in the Licklider Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
Franklin F. Buck
Franklin F. Buck was born in Sibley County, Minnesota, on August 24, 1918, to Louis H. and Alma M. (Weihe) Buck.
He was received into the Kingdom of Christ through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism as an infant at St. John Lutheran Church, Arlington, Minnesota, on September 15, 1918. On March 20, 1932, he was privileged to make public confession of his faith in Christ as his personal Savior from sin at St. John through the rite of Confirmation. His confirmation verse was John 10: 27-28.
He was raised in the Arlington, Minnesota area, growing up on a farm and completed the 8th grade. He was graduated from welding school in March of 1941 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
He lived in many different parts of the country, always using his skill of welding (iron worker) in his different occupations. He lived in Times Beach, Mo., California, and then back to the St. Louis area, specifically Otto, Hermann, and then Leasburg. He moved to Leasburg in 1987, where he resided until the time of his death.
His hobbies included bird hunting, sight seeing, eating out, especially church dinners. He also did mechanical work on tractors, vehicles, and specifically engines. He also welded and did a lot of work on the church grounds when it involved welding.
Frank is survived by one sister, Mary Jane Smyly and husband Jack of Eclectic, Alabama; one sister-in-law, Bernice Lieske of Arlington, Minnesota; special friends, Charlie and Patsy Garavaglia and family of St. Louis, Mo.; nine nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Along with his parents, Franklin was preceded in death by his brother, Willard Edward Buck.
After feeling a little under the weather the last few weeks. Frank died peacefully with his Lord at his home in the chair on February 3, 2001, attaining the age of 82 years, five months and nine days.
Visitation was held at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Bourbon, Mo. from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2001 and at the Fenke Funeral Home in Arlington, Minnesota from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, February 10, 2001.
Funeral services were held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2001, at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Bourbon, Mo. with Rev. David Zirpel officiating. and at the Fenke Funeral Home in Arlington, Minnesota at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 10, 2001 with Rev. Luther Koehler officiating.
Burial was in the St. John's Cemetery, Arlington Township, Minnesota.
Local arrangements were under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home in Cuba, Mo.
Clark E. Farrar
Clark Ernest Farrar was born on Monday, February 9, 1920 near Steelville, Mo. to Albert Farrar and Lena Brown Farrar, and passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at his home near Cuba, Mo., at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 28 days.
Clark grew up in a large family of six girls and seven boys. He attended school at the Gibbs Community School. On February 4, 1942 Clark entered the United States Army where he served during World War II. Clark achieved the rank of Sergeant while serving in India and Burma, and was six times decorated. He was honorably discharged on January 30, 1946.
He was an electrician with Illinois Power and Light. He retired and moved back to this area some 25 years ago. Clark enjoyed life. He loved to fish and be on the river. Clark will be remembered for his ability to make everyone around him laugh. He was a wonderful story teller, who always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. Clark loved to buy and sell, often he would work the area flea markets. He was a lifelong member of the V.F.W. Post #7147, Cuba, Mo.
On June 2, 1995 he married Virginia King Farris. Clark was a favorite uncle, a loving step-father, a step-grandfather.
Clark was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mabel Davis; six brothers, Troy, Harry, Carol (Robin), Jim, Burt, and Raymond; and wife, Althea Jane Farrar.
Those who remain to mourn his passing are his dear wife Virginia of Cuba; five sisters, Zelma Brimer of Kent, Washington, Myrtle Durand of Sullivan, Mo., Mary Ann Wiedeman of Sullivan, Mo., Phoebe Cutsforth of Independence, Mo., and Thelma "Sis" Vick and husband John of Galesburg, Michigan.
Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Doug King and friend Cathy of Owensville, Mo., Ralph King and wife Debbie of Leasburg, Mo., James King and wife Sue of Leasburg, Mo., Leon King and wife Pat of Sullivan, Mo., Buster King of Owensville, Mo., Wayne King of Potosi, Mo., Rosalea Gormley and husband Arthur of Lebanon, Mo., and Lorene Brush of Richland, Mo.; three step-sons, Gary Farris of Cuba, Mo., Larry Farris and wife Sandra of Cuba, Mo., and Jerry Farris and wife Lori of Union, Mo.; one step-daughter, Twila Farris and friend Ed Medcalf of Hazelwood, Mo.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many friends all who will sadly miss and fondly remember Clark Farrar.
Visitation was on Friday, February 10, 2001 from 5-9 p.m. at Hutson Funeral Home in Cuba, Mo.
Funeral Service was held on Saturday, February 11, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the Hutson Funeral Chapel in Cuba, Mo. with Rev. Delmar Hutson and Rev. John Vick officiating.
Burial was in the Brown Cemetery east of Steelville, Mo., with military honors.
