Lola May Holland nee Bridgeman of Cuba, Missouri was born on June 30, 1933 at Berryman, Missouri to the union of John Wyatt Bridgeman and Ruth L. Adair Bridgeman and passed away suddenly on May 29, 2004 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital, Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 70 years 10 months and 29 days.
On May 19, 1951 Lola was united in marriage to Earnest Holland at Cuba, Missouri. They have enjoyed 53 years of marriage. To this union three sons, Ronnie, Marvin and Cleve and four daughters, Charlotte, Elaine, Sandi and Tina, were born.
Lola was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Charlotte Pemberton and Elaine Doyle and one brother Wayne Bridgeman.
Lola was a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church of Leasburg, Missouri. She was a faithful servant of her Lord.
Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her loving husband Earnest Holland; three sons, Ronnie Holland and girlfriend Judy, Marvin Holland and wife Wendy, and Cleve Holland and wife Kim; two daughters Sandi Martin and husband Richard, and Tina Potter and husband Clyde.
Ten brothers Richard Bridgeman and wife Norma, Orville Bridgeman and wife Lois, John Bridgeman and wife Teri, Lawrence Bridgeman, Haskell Bridgeman, Carl Bridgeman and wife Betty, Larry Bridgeman, Clifford Bridgeman, Rodger Bridgeman and wife Brenda, and Lester Bridgeman and wife Glenda; three sisters Stella Buchka and husband Wilbert, Beverly Hanes and husband Jay, and Sharon Britton and husband Dallas.
Sixteen grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Lola was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed.
Lola May Holland nee Bridgeman was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Covenant Praise God Church of God, Cuba, Missouri with Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Interment was in the Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
Donald Gene Kelley
Donald Gene Kelley, Cuba, Missouri was born on May 5, 1937 in Paragould, Arkansas to the union of Lloyd and Viola Kelley and passed away on May 23, 2004 at his home in Cuba, Missouri at the age of 67 years and 18 days.
Donald was a lifelong member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagle.
On October 15, 1956 Donald was united in marriage to Zelta M. Appleba in Senath, Missouri. To this union two sons Donald and David and three daughters Dianna, Sheila, and Brenda were born. They enjoyed over 46 years together until she preceded him in death on November 25, 2002.
Donald was also preceded in death by his parents and one daughter Dianna Henler.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his two sons Donald W. and David L. Kelley; two daughters Sheila Waters and husband Phil and Brenda Lee Bouse; five brothers Charles, Albert, Kenneth, Larry and Ronnie Kelley; three sisters Bernice Reeves, Pearley McClain and Joan George; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Donald was a loving father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
Donald Gene Kelley was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri where visitation was held on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 from 1-6 p.m.
All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
Celesta Spurgeon
Celesta Catherine Spurgeon of Owensville, died Saturday, May 22, 2004, at her residence. She was 79 years old.
She was born July 17, 1924 in Oak Hill, Missouri, a daughter of James Arthur and Bessie McWilliams Hendrickson. She married Granvil L. Spurgeon on April 2, 1942 in Steelville, Missouri. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Spurgeon is survived by three daughters, Marie Horstman and husband Albert of Gerald, Missouri, Arlene Luecke and husband Dennis of Odessa, Texas and Eva Lee West and husband Gary of Owensville; ten grandchildren, Rick Horstman, Tammy Quick, Pam Bramel, Jeff West, Terry Luecke, Cindy McLaughlin, Tina Farmer, Troy Luecke, Christina Smith and Marcia Bridgeford; and 23 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband Granvil Spurgeon, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Eldro Hendrickson and Ervin Hendrickson; and one great grandchild.
Mrs. Spurgeon was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Services were held May 25, 2004 at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with the Rev. Leo Roberson officiating.
Burial was in the Bowen Cemetery, Red Bird, Missouri.
Arrangements were under the direction of Gottenstroeter Funeral Home, Owensville, Missouri.
Ina M. Barber
Ina Marie Barber nee Richardson of Cuba, Missouri was born on Thursday, January 28, 1915 in Cherry Valley, Missouri to Fred Melvin Richardson and Margarette Halbert Richardson. She passed away on Monday, March 21, 2005 in Sullivan Hospital, Sullivan Missouri at the age of 90 years, 1 month and 24 days.
Ina married Vernon E. Barber on October 21, 1961 in Belleville, Illinois. They moved to Cuba, Missouri from Blue Eye, Missouri in 1993 where they have made their home. She attended Holy Cross Catholic Church and accepted the Lord as her personal Savior this past summer. Ina’s hobbies were quilting, sewing, growing flowers, fishing, camping, target shooting, and participating in shooting matches.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Hershel Richardson, Howard Richardson, Haskell “Sonny” Richardson; sisters Fay Ray Richardson, Agnus Hunt and one infant brother. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in law Earl Halbert, Hazel Richardson Harman, Rueben Barber and wife Lilly, Alma Kamlin, Mavis Dixon and husband Travis.
Those who remain to mourn her passing are her husband Vernon E. Barber of the home; sister Ada Halbert of Steelville, Missouri; brothers-in-law Sel Barber and wife Geneva of Afton, Missouri and John Kamlin of St. Louis, Missouri; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Visitation was Tuesday, March 22, 2005 from 5-8 p.m. at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Delmar B. Hutson officiating. Burial at Cherry Valley Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri with pallbearers Lonnie Halbert, John Halbert, Draton Halbert, Lance Cottrell, Jason Halbert and Russell Halbert.
All arrangements under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Berniece Opal Eaker
Berniece Opal Eaker, nee Housewright, was born Wednesday, June 18, 1913, at Cook Station, Missouri, a daughter of the late Thomas Austin Housewright and Nora F. Housewright, nee Asher.
She entered eternal life Saturday, March 19, 2005, at the Gibbs Care Center, Steelville, Missouri, at the age of 91 years, 9 months and 1 day.
On October 18, 1931, at St. Louis, Missouri, Berniece was united in marriage to Clifford William Eaker. Three children, Thomas William, Judith Berniece and Gerald Clifford Eaker were born to this union. They enjoyed 41 years together, before his death, May 12, 1972.
In addition to her parents, Thomas (1956) and Nora (1954) and spouse Clifford (1972), she was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Clifford Eaker (1989) her four brothers, William "Billy" Housewright, Jewell "Pete" Housewright, James T. Housewright and Vernon A. Housewright; one sister, Beulah and husband John William "Bill" Lay, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marcus Eaker (1947), Emma Eaker (1970) and step-grandson and wife, Bob and Twyla Hodge (1974).
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted daughter, Judith B. Hodge and husband Gene Lodge of Rolla, Missouri; a loving son, Thomas William Eaker and wife Donna of Brookfield, Connecticut; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Ann Eaker of Geneseo, Illinois; one sister, Virginia "Peg" Line and husband Myrl of Rolla, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Norma Housewright of St. Peters, Missouri and Audrey Housewright of Steelville, Missouri.
Seven grandchildren, Marsha and Charlie Light of Steelville, Missouri, Michael and Julia Cape of Rolla, Missouri, Ron and Diane Eaker of Redding Connecticut, David and Teri Eaker of New Melford, Connecticut, Kay and Michael Marron of Brookfield, Connecticut, Michelle and Michael Regan of Monticello, Illinois, Billy and Chrissy Eaker of Geneseo, Illinois; five step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, 15 step-great-grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren, eight step great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Berniece Opal Eaker lay in state 4-9 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2005, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2005, in the Britton Chapel with Pastor Chuck Whitmire and Pastor Jerry Beers officiating.
A nephew Robert Housewright gave the eulogy. Musical selections were provided by Rev. Jerry Beers, Robert and Kay Housewright and pianist, Janette Cox.
Committal prayer and interment was in Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Michael Cape, Billy Eaker, Charlie Light, Michael Light, Joshua Cape and Paul Stoner. Honorary pallbearers were Ron Eaker, David Eaker, Kay Ann Marron, Michelle Regan and Marsha Light
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Ira Wilmer “Buck” Gallaher
Ira W. "Buck" Gallaher was born Sunday, June 21, 1914, at Redmondville, Missouri, a son of the late Lewis Irvin Gallaher and Anna May Miller Gallaher.
He departed this life Thursday, March 17, 2005, at the Stonecrest Healthcare, Viburnum, Missouri, at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 26 days.
Buck was united in marriage to Zoa Foster; two daughters, Delores and Nora were born to this union. Zoa passed away at age 43 years. Buck later married Jeral Baker and one son, Darren and one daughter, Kimberly was born to this union. They have enjoyed 44 years together.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Buck was preceded in death by one brother, Ray Gallaher and two sisters Blanche Miner and Edna Moyer and one infant grandson Freddie Boyet.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted wife, Jeral Gallaher of Viburnum, Missouri; three daughters, Delores Stacy and husband Lee of St. Peters, Missouri, Nora Boyet and husband Carroll of Sullivan, Missouri, and Kimberly Abney and husband Kevin of Viburnum, Missouri; and one son, Darren Gallaher and wife Lanette of Caledonia, Missouri.
One brother, Roy Gallaher and wife Lavera of Black, Missouri; two sisters, Ruby Turner and Jean Abney both of Black, Missouri; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Buck was a retired minister, farmer, one who loved to attend sales, buying and selling antiques and other items, a real "wheeler-dealer". He was loved and will be missed.
Ira W. Gallaher lay in state 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2005, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2005, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Dwight Barton officiating and Rev. Jamie Burrus assisting. Musical selections were provided by pianist/vocalist Johnny Setzer.
Committal prayers and interment was in Black Cemetery, Black, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Devon Abney, Darrell Gallaher, Harold Gallaher, Junior Halbert, Winford Pryor and Mark Tabor.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Leah Clementine Thomas Land
Leah Clementine Thomas Land, Wichita, Kansas, formerly of Leavenworth, Kansas, departed this life on Friday, March 18, 2005 at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 6 days. She was born in Pasadina, California, on November 12, 1928, the only daughter of the late Harrison and Della (Goff) Thomas of Viburnum, Missouri.
She worked in nursing at the Veterans Administration Medical Center as a GS 5 and retired from Kimberly Home Center in 1993 and moved to Wichita, Kansas in 2001.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Wagner, two brothers, Paul and Frank Thomas.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her daughter, Sonja Land, sons, Murlyn Land Jr., and Paul Fuller of Wichita, Kansas and Dennis Land of St. Louis, Missouri.
Grandchildren, Jeff and Tracy Wagner of Leavenworth, Kansas, Luke and Casey Land, Melissa, Hannah and Dillion Land, great-grandchildren Nick and Maggie Wagner, Kaelyn Hannah and Damien Herrandez.
Three brothers, Rennie and Barbara Thomas of Hawaii, Lowell and Silvia Thomas of San Antonio, Texas, Harry and Frances Thomas of Viburnum, Missouri, cousins, relatives and many friends.
Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2005 at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee St., Leavenworth, Kansas.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2005 at the Davis Funeral Home.
She was laid to rest at the Czar Cemetery, near Viburnum, Missouri.
Peggy E. Liles
Peggy E. Liles of Cuba, Missouri, was born on August 30, 1928 at Jerseyville, Illinois, to the union of Thomas Leroy Liles and Ruby Gross Liles and passed away at her home near Cuba, Missouri, on March 22, 2005 at the age of 76 years, 6 months and 22 days.
Peggy was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Leroy Liles.
In 1949, she graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Memphis, Tennessee. In addition, she received her Bachelor of Science from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri.
She went on to retire from Barnes-Jewish Hospital School of Nursing after teaching for 40 years. She retired in 1990.
Peggy was a devoted member of the Cuba United Methodist Church and served on the Board of Trustees, Finance and Ad Council. She was also a member of The Susannah’s.
Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her loving mother Ruby Brickey; dear friend Helen Ortmeyer, brother Jimmy Liles and wife LaToya; Aunt Edna Sawtell; other relatives and friends.
Peggy was a loving daughter and good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed.

Steve L. Porter of Cuba, Missouri, was born on May 8, 1960 at Rock Island, Illinois, to the union of Donald Gene Porter and Shirley J. Manary Porter and passed away at the Missouri Baptist Hospital, Sullivan, Missouri, on March 21, 2005 at the age of 44 years 10 months and 13 days.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Donald Gene Porter.
On March 8, 2005, he was united in marriage to Patricia Meiser Snodgrass at Steelville, Missouri.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his loving wife Patricia Porter; mother, Shirley Woeckener three daughters, Cachina Troester and husband Dale, Stephanie Leal and Courtney Porter.
Stepchildren, Brett, Brock, Brendan and Bethany Snodgrass, Jimmie and Adam Davis; grandmother, Catherine Isaacson. Two brothers, Kevin Roy and wife Anna and Timothy "Scott" Porter and wife Tina.
Three sisters, Terri Wottowa and husband David, Leslie Etheridge and Shari Hamilton and husband John. Five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Steve was a loving husband, father, son, step-father, grandson, brother and good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
