Hobert Hadley Ledbetter, 1908-2002
Funeral services for Hobert Hadley Ledbetter, 94, of Theodosia, were held Saturday, Oct. 26 at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville.
Burial was in Lutie Cemetery.
Mr. Ledbetter died Oct. 21, 2002, at Cox Walnut Lawn in Springfield. He was born Oct. 19, 1908, in Ozark County, the son of James Henry and Caldonia (Jones) Ledbetter.
He married Jerda Maxine Hogan Feb. 17, 1936, at Gainesville.
He was a member of True Hope General Baptist Church in Theodosia, where he served as a deacon for many years.
He was also a member of Sampson Lodge #298 and had received his 50-year pin.
He and his wife, owned and operated Ledbetter General Store in Theodosia for more than 55 years.
He was a former postmaster and mayor of Theodosia.
He enjoyed dealing in livestock and enjoyed baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals.
Mr. Ledbetter is survived by his wife, Maxine; three daughters, Lena Hobbs and her husband, Rex, of McKinney, Texas, Joyce Hampton and her husband, Arnold, and Sue Baber and her husband, Stan, all of Springfield; one son, Travis Ledbetter and his wife, Virginia, of Branson; one daughter-in-law, Earlene Ledbetter of Springfield; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Ledbetter of Springfield; 11 grandchildren, Anita and Bill Horton, David and Robyn Hobbs, Pam and Will Wegis, Ben and Tammy Ledbetter, Mary and Myron Bruffett, Greg Hampton, Greta Pierce, Gayla and Chris Marafino, Sam Baber, Diana Baber, Shane and Kris Ledbetter and Susan and Richard Ewing; 17 great-grandchildren, Sophia, Jackson, James, Ellen, Matt, Annie, Addie, Michael, Christal, Bianca, Gabriel, Zachary, Madison, Nicole, Sally, Molly and Hadley; one great-great-granddaughter, Demara; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Edna (Reich) Ledbetter; one son, Dwight Hadley; one grandson, Steven Baber; and four brothers, Raymond, Emory, Allen and Rayford.

Mrs. Coatney died Dec. 3, 2002.
She was born Dec. 13, 1928, in Tebbetts, the daughter of Samuel L. and Clara Mae (Craghead) Griffin.
She married Charles Coatney Dec. 24, 1954, in Rhineland.
She was a member of the Gainesville Christian Church and a school teacher.
Mrs. Coatney is survived by one daughter, Clara May Kaufman of Peoria, Ill.; two sons, William Lawrence Kaufman of Conway and Charles Edward Coatney Jr. of Jefferson City; seven stepchildren, Dick Coatney and Denny Coatney of Gainesville, Elva Beard and Charlotte Hanks of Mountain Home, Ark., Retha Friend and Levita Turley of Kansas City, Kan., and Freda Dodson of Great Bend, Kan.; and one sister, Edith Mae Griffin of St. Louis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents; one brother; and one sister.
Pallbearers were Dick Coatney, Denny Coatney, Marty Coatney, Bill Cook, Rex Johnson and Larry Grisham.
Honorary pallbearers were Dwain Hannaford, Ray Ingram and David Stevens.

Father Gerard Fuller, OMI, 1930-2003
A local memorial service for Father Gerard Fuller, 72, of Gainesville, will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 30 at St. William's Catholic Church. Funeral mass was held Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at the Church of Our Lady of the Snows, on the grounds of the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, Ill., with Father Paul Wightman, OMI, officiating.
Father Donald Dietz, boyhood friend and classmate, delivered the homily.
Burial was in the Oblate Cemetery on the grounds of St. Henry's Oblate Community in Belleville, Ill.
Father Fuller died Jan. 24, 2003, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville, Ill.
He was born May 23, 1930, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Alonzo and Helen (Moran) Fuller.
He was in his 52nd year as a Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate and his 47th year as a priest.
After attending St. Ambrose Academy in Davenport, Iowa, from 1943 to 1945, he entered the minor seminary, Our Lady of the Ozarks, in Carthage from 1945 to 1949.
He was initiated into the Oblate way of life (Novitiate) in 1949 and 1950, pronouncing his first vows in Godfrey, Ill., on Aug. 15, 1950.
He then attended philosophy courses at DeMazenod Scholasticate in San Antonio, Texas, from 1950 to 1952, theology courses at St. Joseph's Scholasticate in Ottawa, Canada, in 1952 and 1953, and Our Lady of the Snows Scholasticate in Pass Christian, Miss., from 1953 to 1956, where he was ordained a priest on Sept. 21, 1955.
He received his masters of arts degree in English literature in 1961 from St. Louis University in St. Louis.
Father Fuller was involved in various pastoral assignments in Missouri, Minnesota, Illinois, Louisiana, Utah, Texas and Wisconsin.
He had served as pastor of St. William's Parish in Gainesville from 1988 until the time of his death.
He was well-known on the Internet for his insightful homilies, which he offered freely to his fellow homilists and readers.
He also had weekly columns in several diocesan newspapers.
Father Fuller is survived by two brothers, James Fuller of Davenport, Iowa, and Michael Fuller of Aurora, Colo.; one sister Mary Jo Mitchell of Dunedin, Fla.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Helen.

Mr. Ward died Aug. 7, 2003, at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Ark.
He was born March 2, 1924, in Danville, Iowa, the son of Lamont C. and Ida May (Meador) Ward.
He married Eva Mae Balmer Feb. 18, 1954, in Augusta, Iowa.
He was a machinist for the Burlington Northern Railroad and retired in 1985 after 35 years.
He was a member of St. Williams Catholic Church.
Mr. Ward is survived by his wife, Eva; four sons, Joseph Ward and his wife, Vicki, of Saginaw, Texas, Charles Ward and his wife, Micke, of Middletown, Iowa, Thomas Ward and his wife, Patricia, and Monte Ward and his wife, Shelly, of Burlington, Iowa; three daughters, Cindy Numann and Linda Ward, both of Burlington, Iowa, Marjorie Ward of Danville, Iowa, and Theresa Huebner of Fulton, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; and four sisters, Mae Ward of Heber Springs, Ark., Ruth Sukow of Ocala, Fla., June Kieleber of Wills Point, Texas, and Dolly Rutherford of Canton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and three sisters.
