Mrs. Pamela Kiser McConahay, 42, of Durham, N.C. died Wednesday, October 30, 2002 in UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Mrs. McConahay was born in Kansas City, Mo., April 24, 1960. She was the daughter of Maxwell Dale Kiser and the late Mary Ellen Wilson Kiser. Pamela was employed with Sam's Club, Raleigh, N.C., in the accounting department. Pamela was a beloved wife, daughter and sister. She had a deep compassion for animals.
Surviving are her husband, John Edward McConahay of Durham, N.C.; her father, Maxwell Dale Kiser of Saline, Mich.; two brothers, Michael Dale Kiser of Bellingham, Wash., and Jeffrey Scott Kiser of Lexington, Ky., and a sister, Stacy Kathleen Greyson of West Memphis, Ark.
Preceding her in death were her mother, Mary Ellen Wilson and grandparents Davis and Phoebe Wilson.
Memorial services were held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 2 in the Lockridge Community Cemetery, Durham, N.C., with the Rev. Dean Deboer officiating.
Elmer Workman, Jr.
Elmer Workman, Jr., son of Elmer Workman, Sr. and Eula Mae Miller Workman, was born in Richland on April 7, 1921 and departed this life March 4, 2003 in Richland.
In 1940 he was united in marriage with Loretta Wall and to this union were born three children.
He attended and graduated from Richland High School in 1939. He had been a member of the American Legion Post #240 for 51 years.
Elmer served his country with the United States Air Force from May 1943 to September 1945 attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served with the 306th bombardment group, was a decorated World War II veteran, receiving the Air Offensive Europe Campaign with three bronze stars, two Air Medals with five oak leaf clusters, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a waist gunner on a B17, flew thirty five missions, was shot down over France, rescued by local residents and taken to safety in England.
In 1945, Elmer and Loretta opened a restaurant called Elmer's G.I. Drive-In. In 1946 he went into the used car business and continued this venture for over 50 years, buying cars in St. Louis and selling the majority of them at the 166 Auto Auction in Springfield. Elmer was a very generous man with his employees and customers. Many who bought cars and couldn't pay for them were never asked to bring them back, he just took the loss.
In 1951 he was called back to active duty during the Korean Conflict. The restaurant was then sold to his brother Ronald Workman and renamed Workman's Restaurant.
Those surviving include his one son, Coy Workman and wife Iva Nell of Richland; two daughters, Leah Helms and husband Dennis of Richland, and Lana Dunham of Waco, Texas; one sister, Norma Jean Johnson of Richland; a sister-in-law, Opal Workman of Richland; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; faithful dog Mickey; other relatives and friends.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Kate Workman; one brother, Ronald Workman; one son-in-law, Fred Dunham; and one brother-in-law, Robert Johnson.
Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2003 at Colonial Chapel, Richland, with Minister Bob Leinbaugh officiating. Escorts were Gilbert Whitham, Robert Holloway, Robert Decker, Larry Baranowski, Larry Dale Powers and Bill Decker, Jr. Honorary Escorts were Buck Hooker, Dick Flynn, Floyd Miller, Toot Smith, Bud Trower, Pete Wilson, Carl Tanner, Don Tanner, Roy Henry, Dick Smith, Harold Johnson and Floyd Rainey. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Daniel L. Smith
Daniel L. Smith, son of Louie Smith and Lula Downs Smith, was born July 5, 1950 in Monett and departed this life August 4, 2003 at his home near Richland, at the age of fifty three years.
On January 30, 1981 he was united in marriage with Sandra Barber, and of this union are four children.
He served his country with the United States Coast Guard until he was honorably discharged.
Daniel had been employed with Wal Mart in St. Robert as lead associate in the dairy department prior to his illness. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, fishing, sitting on his porch and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife Sandy of the home; four children, Stacy Smith, High Ridge, Jason and Eric Reinhardt, both of Pacific, Christopher Reinhardt, Valley Park; one brother, Jack DePriest, Monett; two sisters, Bennie Duenning, Glen Carbon, Ill., and Kay Shelley, Monett; four grandchildren, Katie McNulley, Dustin, Gretchen and Damien Reinhardt; other relatives and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Bonnie Stephens.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Thieme-Shadel-Hicks Funeral Services at Colonial Chapel of Richland.
Ella Noia Mullins
Ella Noia Mullins, daughter of Oscar and Cora Quillen Vanover, was born July 20, 1926 in Neon, Kentucky and departed this life November 25, 2002 at Sunset Village of the Ozarks, St. Robert, at the age of seventy six years.
Ella professed her faith in Christ at an early age, and at the time of her death was a member of the First Baptist Church, Richland.
She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, quilting, painting and working in her flower garden, but most of all she loved the time spent with her family and friends.
Ella leaves to mourn her passing, four sons: Barry Mullins and wife Mary of Richland, Curtis Mullins and wife Cheryl and Stephen Mullins and wife Patti of Miami, Okla.; three daughters: Donna McMahon and husband Ronnie of Richland, Lynn Upton and husband Steve of St. Robert, Wilma Place and husband Ron of Buffalo; one brother, Bill Vanover of Madison, Ohio; one sister, Kathleen Rose of Frankfort, Ohio; fifteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, John Vanover, and by two sisters, Nora Mullins and Fannie Brooks.
A lovely Christian lady, Ella will be fondly remembered and great missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2002 at Thieme Shadel Hicks at Colonial Chapel, Richland, with Dr. Mike Hawkins officiating. Music was provided by Mary Kay Howlett, Soloist, and Marcia Shadel, Organist. Escorts were Ronnie McMahon, Steve Upton, Jeremy Garrard, Ron Place, Scott McMahon and Lewis Mendez. Honorary Escorts were Jamie Roath, Mike Potter, Walter McMahon, Rod McBreairty, and Mitch Potter.
Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, Richland with services under the direction of Thieme Shadel Hicks at Colonial Chapel, Richland.
Jewel Becker
Jewell Becker, 78, Crocker, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, in St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield.
Becker was born December 28, 1924 in Fairview, a daughter of Clyde and Ava Barnes Quesenberry.
She was married July 7, 1942 to John Lewis Becker, who preceded her in death on August 26, 1998.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary in Crocker. Mrs. Becker spent most of her life as a licensed practical nurse at Fort Leonard Wood.
She is survived by her son, John L. Becker, of Crocker; one brother, Lyle Quesenberry, of Sioux City, Iowa; two sisters, June Hancock of Crocker, and Midge Winford, of St. Louis; four grandchildren and one-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother, two sisters and one grandson.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 22, 2003, in the Long Funeral Home in Crocker with Brother Billy Claiborn officiating. Interment was held in the Crocker Public Cemetery.
Mildred R. "Mickey" Wilson
Mildred R. "Mickey" Wilson, daughter of the late William and Etta Mae (Farris) Kelley, was born April 28, 1924 in Dixon, Missouri. She attended and graduated from Waynesville High School and later attended Indiana University.
In July 1973, Mickey was united in marriage to Leroy Wilson in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Mickey managed Walt's Restaurant in South Bend, Indiana and later owned and operated the Red Kitchen Restaurant. She loved working in restaurants and in her spare time she enjoyed cooking and fishing.
Mickey passed away the morning of Tuesday, August 12, 2003 in General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital in Ft. Leonard Wood, having attained the age of 79 years.
Mickey will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by her husband, Leroy Wilson of the home; one brother: Darwin Kelley of Laquey; other relatives and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: William and Etta Mae Kelley; one brother: James "Frank" Kelley; and two sisters: Lorene Fugate and Dorothy Laurent.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 15, 2003 at Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Rev. Tom Dowler officiating. Mrs. Vivian Dowler accompanied Rev. Dowler as he sang "Peace in the Valley" and "How Great Thou Art." Serving as escorts were Lonnie Chambers, Jim Davis, James Shrieves, Jim Shrieves, Ronnie Swartzlander and Dub Turnbow. Burial followed in the Dunkard Cemetery in St. Robert. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.
Jesse B. Elam
Jesse B. Elam, son of William Joseph Elam and Nettie Evans Elam, was born March 1, 1917 in Richland, and passed away Sept. 6, 2003 in Springfield at the age of 86.
On Aug. 23, 1941 he was united in marriage with Evelyn Gallion and to this union four children were born.
Jesse accepted Christ at an early age and served faithfully as Deacon of Independence Baptist Church since November of 1947, where he attended without fail. Jesse always told the story that he was saved while laying out in the pasture with a hound dog sitting on his chest.
He served on the board of directors for Production Credit Association for twenty-five years and on the board of directors for Laclede Electric Cooperative for almost 40 years.
Jesse loved his horses, cattle, dogs and possum hunting in his younger years. He especially loved the time spent with his family. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye. He loved teaching them to ride horses, the four wheeler and all about life. He was born and lived his entire life on the farm his grandfather settled on in the 1840's.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn of the home; one son, Robert Elam and wife Pat of Richland; one daughter, Elizabeth Elam of Richland; a son-in-law, Frank Finger of Fayetteville, Ark.; one brother, Bill Elam of Richland; four sisters, Flora Lawrance of Clearwater, Fla., Bonnie McIntyre of St. Louis, Ethel Wilson and Grace McCleary, both of Richland; seven grandchildren: Mark Finger, Zachary Finger and wife Aricka, Sarah Ice and husband John, Julie Bennett and husband Scott, Jessica Elam, Joe Elam, Becky May; seven great grandchildren: Elizabeth Ice, Jackson Finger, Seth, Gabriel and Josey May, Hannah and Ethan Finger; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. His friends were like family and many said they never heard anyone say a bad word about Jesse Elam.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Gay Finger; one infant son, Christopher Elam; one son-in-law, Jim May; a brother, Roger Elam; and three sisters, Rose McCamon, Anna Bowling and Mildred Clark.
Jesse was a true leader in all things and he was our HERO.
Services for Mr. Elam were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003 at Independence Baptist Church, with Pastor Ed Hamilton officiating. Music was provided by Morris McDaniel. Escorts were Mark Finger, Larry Laucks, Randy Wilson, Zachary Fingers, Bill Laucks and Scott Bennett. Honorary Escorts were Deacons: Jim Dietiker, LeRoy Robinson, Jim Reid, Jr., Bob Brandon and Mayfield Wilson; and the Laclede Electric Board of Directors: Malcolm Osborn, Dwight Bethurem, Don Martin, Don Clark, Joel Cravens, Doyle Stokes, Jerry Gaddy, David Johnson, Jerry Laughlin and Carl Lowrance.
Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, Richland, under the direction of Thieme-Shadel-Hicks Funeral Service at Colonial Chapel.
