Billie Marie Nordberg (nee Moss-Green) passed away Sunday, June 23, 2002.
She was the beloved wife of Robert N. Nordberg; dear mother and mother-in-law of Vicki (Dean) Park, Keith (Kay), Christopher and Brian (JoAnn) Gardner; dear grandmother of Keri (Christopher) Kallaos, Stacy Park and Katlyn, Kristyn, Jason (Melissa) and Justin Gardner; dear great-grandmother of Jason Keith Gardner Jr.; and our dear sister, aunt and friend.
Billie was an officer of the Florissant Senior Commission and the Lady Elks Florissant No. 2316.
Services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, at Ortmann-Stipanovich Funeral Home, 12444 Olive Boulevard, St. Louis, Mo. Interment and graveside services will be at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin, Mo. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Ortmann-Stipanovich Funeral Home.
Max Darby
MOUNT VERNON, Mo. - Max Edward Darby, 72, Mount Vernon, died at 4:20 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after a short illness. Mr. Darby was born Aug. 5, 1924, in Mount Vernon, where he was a lifetime area resident. He was an Air Force veteran who served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a World War II prisoner of war who received several medals. After retiring from the Air Force, he was a respiratory therapist at the Missouri Rehabilitation Center, Mount Vernon, retiring in 1967. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Mount Vernon. He married Phyllis Cupps in 1980 in Mount Vernon. She survives. Additional survivors include a daughter, Deborah Dover, Greenville, S.C.; two stepsons, Bill Cupps, Joplin, and Gordon Cupps, Branson; a stepdaughter, Marti Fitzgerald, Joplin; and five grandchildren. The body has been cremated. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mount Vernon. Burial and and graveside military rites will be conducted at Hazelgreen Cemetery at Boulder City. Contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, in care of the funeral home.
Louise Dykens
PIERCE CITY, Mo. - Louise Boswell Dykens, 81, Pierce City, died at 1:59 a.m. Friday, March 14, 1997, at a Springfield nursing home after a long illness. Mrs. Dykens was born Aug. 18, 1915, at Strafford. She was a retired cosmetologist. She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, the American Cosmetology Board, Neosho (Mo.) Weavers Guild and the Dry Valley community Extension Club, near Pierce City. She married Alfred Boswell on May 22, 1938. He died March 2, 1975. She married Harold Dykens on Dec. 7, 1975. He died June 23, 1987. Survivors include a son, Alfred Boswell, Halltown; three daughters, Carolyn Boswell, Springfield, Sally Boswell, Tallahassee, Fla., and Vivian Boswell, Ash Grove; a sister, Ruby Hirsch, Seneca; and six grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Mount Olivet Cemetery, north of Pierce City. The Rev. Crystal Wicks will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at Lakin Funeral Home, Pierce City. Contributions may be made to the Mount Olivet Church or its cemetery.
Ellis Hull
REEDS, Mo. - Ellis Frank Hull, 78, Reeds, died at 10:40 p.m. Friday, March 14, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after a long illness. Mr. Hull was born March 29, 1918, at Oldfield. He had lived in Reeds since 1951. He was an employee of Carthage Marble and a log hauler. He retired in 1989. He was a member of the Reeds Baptist Church. He married Nellie May Garrison on March 22, 1940, at Ozark. She survives. Additional survivors include three sons, Lloyd D. Hull and Frederick D. Hull, both of Reeds, and Harold L. Hull, Avilla; a daughter, Wanda Pauline Ward, Carthage; two brothers, Melvin Hull, Elkhead, and Alvie Hull, Bruner; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Reeds Cemetery. The Rev. Loma Burrell will officiate. Pallbearers will be Earl Long, Joe Pierce, Andy Ward, Charlie Hull, Bill Hull and Rick Hull. Arrangements are under the direction of Housh Funeral Home, Sarcoxie.
Curtis Maze
AURORA, Mo. - Curtis A. Maze, 83, Aldrich route 2, an Aurora native, died Friday afternoon, March 14, 1997, at his home after a farming accident. Mr. Maze was born June 25, 1913, at Aurora. He graduated from Dadeville (Mo.) High School. He was a farmer and a member of the Dadeville First Christian Church. He married Geneva Passmore on Sept. 18, 1938, at Bolivar. She survives. Additional survivors include a son, Bill Maze, Bolivar; a daughter, Lynette Thomas, Springfield; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Dadeville First Christian Church. The Rev. Steve Moore and the Rev. Larry Malaney will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Springfield. Friends may call at their convenience at the Dadeville Funeral Home.
James Roe
NEVADA, Mo. - James August Roe, 65, Nevada, died at 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, 1997, at his home after a long illness. Mr. Roe was born August 2, 1931, at Santa Ana, Calif. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1953 to 1955. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He married Olive Hazelton on Nov. 20, 1976, at Reno, Nev. She survives. Additional survivors include a son, Lee Roe, Stockton, Calif.; a daughter, Tina Myers, Nevada; a brother, Burt Roe, Oceanside, Calif.; a sister, Ester Woods, Nevada; and six grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. The Rev. William Cox will officiate. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kan. Friends may call until the hour of the service at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Martha Stansberry
LAMAR, Mo. - Martha Orine Stansberry, 84, 204 Walnut, Lamar, died at 6:25 p.m. Friday, March 14, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after a heart attack. Mrs. Stansberry was born Feb. 22, 1913, at Lamar. She worked as a secretary in several offices and as a part-time clerk in the the Lamar courthouse. She was a member of the Lamar United Methodist Church. She married Howard Glen Stansberry on June 2, 1944. He died Jan. 16, 1977. Survivors include a sister, Nadeen Waggoner, Lamar. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar. The Rev. Clif Crockett will officiate. Burial will be in Lake Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Curless, Henry Lyle, Vic Higgenbotham, J.D. Pahlow, Tom Carroll, Carl VanDeMark and Richard Chancellor. Contributions may be made to the Lamar United Methodist Church or the Barton County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Donna Louise Staggs
Donna Louise Staggs, Carthage, went to be with her Lord Saturday evening.
She was born July 29, 1933 in Stark City, Missouri to Duard and Pauline Hawk. She moved to Carthage in 1963.
In her 38 years as an elementary school teacher, Mrs. Staggs influenced the lives of over 1,000 children. She taught first and second grades in Ritchey and Fairview, Missouri. She then taught second grade at Eugene Field Elementary, Carthage, and Columbian Elementary from 1963 until her retirement in 1994.
She graduated from Midway School, Stark City, Missouri in 1951. She earned a bachelor's degree in education, a master's degree in education with honors, and a master's degree in guidance and counseling with honors, all from Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield.
She was a member of the Carthage Community Teachers Association and the Alpha Delta Kappa sorority.
Following her retirement, she continued to give back to children and to her community. She was involved in the Carthage Area Retired Teachers Association. She was an American Red Cross volunteer at McCune Brooks Hospital. She also volunteered as a reading program volunteer at Steadley Elementary School.
Mrs. Staggs was well loved at her church, First Assembly of God, Carthage, and was a Sunday School teacher for nearly 30 years. She was an avid reader of the scriptures.
Her husband, Fred Staggs, preceded her in death in 1970.
Her family was perhaps the most cherished and important part of her life. She will be greatly missed by her three daughters, nine grandchildren, and her sister, Alice Kelly, Grandby. Her sister, Vera Delp, preceded her in death.
Children: Gail Clark, Joplin, Missouri; Sandy Berry, Titusville, Florida; Martha Perusek, Atlanta, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. at the Ulmer Funeral Home, Carthage. Visitation will be held Tuesday, 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Jimmie Hinson. She will be buried in the Mound Chapel Cemetery, Newtonia, Missouri.
