Elsworth E. Carpenter
BALLWIN, Mo. - Elsworth E. Carpenter, age 69, of Ballwin, Mo., a former Joplin resident, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2002, at the St. John’s Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., following a sudden illness.
Mr. Carpenter was born December 24, 1932 in Carl Junction, Mo. He was employed for 33 years with the Western-Auto Store in Joplin, before retiring in 1983 and moving to Ballwin. He was an Army veteran.
He married Dovie Lyster November 3, 1951 in Huntsville, Ark. She survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Allan Carpenter and his wife, Sherry, St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Peggy Hillyard, Joplin, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel, with burial in the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
Neil Morgan Grant
Neil Morgan Grant, age 76, of Joplin, passed away at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at St. John's Regional Medical Center, following an illness.
Neil was born on September 17, 1924 in Dover, Ark., the son of the late Lucy and Jasper Grant.
He has been a resident of Joplin for the past thirty years, moving here from Springfield, Mo. He was employed by Joplin Regional Center as a Business Manager. He retired in 1989. In his spare time he operated an appliance repair shop. He was an active member of North Main Street Baptist Church. He was ordained as a Deacon by his Church in Springfield, Mo., and has remained active in Deacon Ministries. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was an active member of the Carl Junction, Mo. Senior Citizen group. He has enjoyed many hobbies, his favorites were woodworking and gardening. He loved giving friends food and flowers. He was also a Purple Martin Landlord.
Survivors include two daughters, Amy Moore, Trenton, Mo., and Roxanne Grant Atkinson and husband, Roger, Kansas City, Mo.; one brother, James E. Grant, Murphys, Calif.; one sister, Amy Sue Brown, North Little Rock, Ark.; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2001 at North Main Street Baptist Church, north on Main to Highway 43 and Gum Road. Rev. Ron Crow will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
Emma Dean Wolfinbarger
Emma Dean Wolfinbarger, age 71, Neosho, died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2002, at a Neosho nursing home, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Mrs. Wolfinbarger was born January 12, 1931 in Neosho and was a lifelong area resident. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.
She married Frank Wolfinbarger on March 24, 1948 in Benton County, Ark. He survives.
Additional survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Janine Wolfinbarger, Neosho; two grandchildren, Rob Wolfinbarger and wife, Angie, and Kristi Swint and husband, Stuart, all of Seneca; three great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Parker Wolfinbarger and Ian Swint; two sisters, Doreen Murphy, Neosho, and Charlotte Clanton, Plano, Texas. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Joyce Al-Saeedan; two sisters and two brothers.
Services will be Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at 1:30 p.m., at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Troy Risley will officiate. Burial will be in the Gibson Cemetery and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and the family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.

Doris Maxine Garner
Carl Junction, Mo. - Doris Maxine Garner, age 75, died at 11:26 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2001 at Freeman Health Systems-West in Joplin.
Mrs. Garner was born May 24, 1925 in Lockwood, Mo., to Sylvester J. and Sarah Ethel Clayton Manka in Lockwood, Mo. A longtime resident of Carl Junction, she was a homemaker and had also worked for Carl Junction City Hall and Mt. Vernon Chest Hospital.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Joplin and had helped with Crosslines and American Rehabilitation Ministry in Joplin.
On December 9, 1961 she married Ernest Leroy Garner in Mt. Vernon, Mo. He preceded her in death February 12, 1972.
Survivors include a daughter, Gail Bremmerkamp of Joplin; a son, Clayton Todd Garner of Joplin; three stepdaughters, Brosia Garner of Grove, Okla, Brenda Garner of Marionville, Mo., and Beverly Garner of Aurora, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a stepson, Jerry Garner; and two grandsons, Andy Garner and Ronnie Garner.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 5, at First United Methodist Church in Joplin. Dr. Steve Breon will officiate. Interment will be in Carl Junction Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Curtis Burton, Ronnie Garner, Jared Campbell, Robbie Collins, Doug Pritchard and Howard Darnell.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Simpson Funeral Home-Carl Junction.
Memorial contributions may be made to Schlederma Foundation or the American Heart Association.
Georgia L. Fay
Georgia L. Fay, age 94, passed away March 30, 2001 at 4:45 p.m. in Greeley, Colo., where she lived with her son, George and his wife, Sally. Her parents were George W. Revelle, and Olive Lee Revelle (Thompson).
Mrs. Fay was born in St. Louis, Mo., on October 14, 1906. She married Carroll Fay on June 7, 1924 in St. Louis. They moved to Joplin in 1925. Her husband operated the Southwestern Sash and Door building materials company in Joplin for over forty-five years until 1970. Georgia and her husband were members of the Twin Hills Country Club. They traveled extensively around the world. Mr. Fay passed away in 1974.
Georgia L. Fay worked as a volunteer for over 30 years. She was president of St. John's Hospital Auxiliary, president of Freeman's Hospital Auxiliary, and president of the Rotary Anns. She was on the Board of Directors of the Women's Club of Joplin. In addition, she was a member of the First Community Church, all of Joplin, Mo.
She is survived by four sons, George Fay (and wife, Sally) of Greeley, Colo., Robert Fay (and wife, Susan) of St. Joseph, Mo., Jack Fay (and wife, Miriam) of Joplin, Mo., and Richard Fay on Indianapolis, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her close friend, Maria-Carmen Soler of Joplin, Mo.
A private service, followed by a graveside memorial will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Joplin, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
Nina French Logan
Nina French Logan, age 98, of Butler, Mo. passed away Monday, April 2, 2001 at the Medicalodge in Butler.
She was born in Bates County, Mo., Summit Township, on September 18, 1902. She was the only child of Johnnie and Callie French. At an early age she accepted Christ and joined the First Baptist Church of Butler. She was an active member as long as her health permitted.
On October 24, 1929 she was united in marriage to Warren Logan, and to this union two sons were born. Warren preceded her in death in 1983.
Nina is survived by her sons, Lowell Logan and wife, Waldeane of Butler, Kenneth Logan and wife, DeAnna of Cape Fair. Her grandchildren, Russell Logan and wife, Pam of Lamar, Sandra Golden and husband, John of Joplin, Sheri Schaller and Marty Wheelen of Joplin, DeWayne Logan and wife, Rachel of Kimberling City, and Cindy Manis and husband, Steve of Olathe, Kan. Great-grandchildren, Amanda Logan, Abbey Logan, Mary Logan, Kimberly Logan, Jennifer Logan, Michelle Patrick and Kenie Rae Steveson. She is also survived by two sisters, Elsie Cummings of Nevada and Louise Snyder of Butler.
Visitation is April 4, 2001 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with the funeral to follow at the Underwood-Steinbeck Funeral Home in Butler, Mo. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler, Mo.
Donations may be made to the First Baptist Church or the Butler Public Library.
Everett F. Rector
Everett Forrest Rector, 68, Lamar, Mo., passed away late Saturday afternoon, June 22, 2002. Everett had suffered a heart attack, entering Freeman Hospital, Joplin, April 21. He had returned home to “The Farm” Wednesday afternoon, June 19.
Everett was born on September 25, 1933, in Agate, Colo., the firstborn to Donald Lafayette and Dora Marie (Boerner) Rector. On July 5, 1953, Everett married Shirley Anne Fenwick of Deer Trail, Colo., and they had been together nearly 49 years! Together they farmed and milked in Colorado while Everett worked on the State Highway Department and later became a finishing blade operator on highway construction until they purchased a farm just east of Lamar, Mo., moving March 1964. They lived on the same farm in Barton County for the past 39 years, where they continued to milk cows, farm and raise seven children. Everett and Shirley are members of Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church.
Everett had been a 40-year member of the Union of Operating Engineers, running the dozer and finish blade. The final construction projects that he participated in were with Snyder’s Construction Company doing the Joplin Home Depot, the new Joplin Industrial Park, and last worked on Highway 71 to Goodman, Mo. Everett was well known across Barton County for the many home sites where he dug the foundation, finished the dirt landscaping and/or driveways, and even more so remembered for the farm terraces and ponds he built.
For over thirty years, Everett bowled with the John Deere team sponsored by the Puriton John Deere dealership of Lamar, Mo. Everett loved to grow flowers, particularly roses. And he loved music! He appreciated his wife’s piano music the most.
Additional survivors include one son, Cole Lee Rector, Lamar; five daughters, Linda “Lynn” Bryant, Joplin, Sherry Ann Vermillion, Shawnee, Kan., Donna Lynn Harpole, Barstow, Calif., Sandra Rector, Jerico Springs, Mo., and Misty Leidholt, Corpus Christi, Texas. He was preceded in death by three daughters, Verlene Jean Rector, Alice Sue Rector and Laura Mae Graves, who passed away with cancer six months prior.
Three younger brothers survive: James “Jim” Rector of Deer Trail, Colo., Gary Rector of Simla, Colo. and William “Bill” Rector of Jasper, Mo. ...plus 22 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
The Rector family will receive friends Tuesday evening, June 25, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar, Mo., and funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, at Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church with Pastor Brian Davis officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens, Lamar.
