Orville O. Meistad
Orville O. Meistad, age 82, died at 9:04 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at Freeman Hospital-East.
Mr. Meistad was born October 3, 1918 in Barron, Wisc. He was a barber for most of his life and owned a Montgomery Ward Catalog store for 12 years in Reedsburg, Wisc. He also was a tax assessor in Reedsburg.
Mr. Meistad was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church and past president of The Sons of Norway.
He married Marjorie I. Blais, December 21, 1938 in Wendell, Idaho. She preceded him in death July 17, 1999.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth Meistad, Joplin; one brother, Al Meistad, Wendell, Idaho; and one sister, Leona Nelson, La Crosse, Wisc.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 6, 2001 at Bethany Presbyterian Church. Rev. Brock Watson will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
Neil Frisinger
Neil Frisinger, age 73, Joplin, Mo., passed away at 4:18 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2002, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, following an illness.
Neil was born on September 25, 1928, in Wibaux, Mont., the son of the late Carroll and Fannie Frisinger. He has lived in the Joplin area most of his life.
He was a machinist for Vicker's for 25 years. He was the administrator for Chastain's Tradition House for 10 years, retiring in 1987. He was also a farmer. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War, stationed in Germany. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0322 in Webb City, Mo.
He married Peggy Ruth Garde on June 1, 1954 in Miami, Okla. She survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Tim Frisinger of Aurora, Mo., and Danny Frisinger of Joplin; one brother, Gene Frisinger of Racine, Mo.; two sisters, Nancy Wilson of Joplin, and Tena Porter of Racine, Mo.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Frisinger, in 1974; and his brother, Jim Frisinger.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Reverend Johnny Wilkins will officiate. Burial will be in Osborne Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rusty Frisinger, Randy Frisinger, David Bastian, Jim Bastian, Bud Cox and Tom Cox.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
Claude Ernest "Dutch" Douthitt
Claude Ernest "Dutch" Douthitt, age 86, Joplin, passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2001 after a lengthy illness.
Born November 16, 1914 at Ritchey, Mo. he was the son of the late Elzy C. Douthitt and Gertrude York Douthitt. Claude lived in the Granby area until he entered the Army Air Corps during World War II, serving as an airplane mechanic. Upon getting out of the army, he went to work for Sierra Talc and Clay in California. He later founded Galaxy Manufacturing, a braising/welding company with his partner, Rod Pomeroy. In 1976, he moved back to Missouri, retiring in Shell Knob. In 1983, he moved to Neosho where he had an egg production business and then moved to Joplin in 1995.
Claude was a dedicated businessman, hardworking and committed to quality and excellence in both the products he produced and his work relationships. People knew that they could trust him to keep his word and honor his commitments. In the church and the local community, he noticed when people needed help and would do whatever he could to help them. He liked to tinker and repair things. In his younger years, he restored classic cars, enjoying the search for parts as much as the rebuilding.
On November 30, 1941, he married Mary Juanita Stark, who recently passed away from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He is survived by his son, Gary Douthitt and his wife, Jeanne, of Austin, Texas; his granddaughter, Karen Douthitt of Austin, Texas; as well as various nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Clarence and Thomas Douthitt; and two sisters, Lela Carpenter and Lora Douthitt.
Services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Kim Mailes will officiate. Interment will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery.
Helen Dyer Griggs
Helen Dyer Griggs, 93, of Carthage, Mo. died at 5:15 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2001 at her home from natural causes.
Mrs. Griggs was born February 10, 1908 near Carthage to Richard C. and Daphne Dyer.
She graduated from Carthage Senior High School in 1926 and Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, Mo. with a degree in Primary Education.
She taught in rural schools in Jasper County and many years in the Carthage Public School System.
Harold Carlisle
Harold R. Carlisle, age 85, Joplin, passed away at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2001 at a local nursing home after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Mr. Carlisle was born May 23, 1916 in Joplin and had lived in Joplin most of his life. He worked 37 years for National Cash Register Company, later known as NCR Corporation, retiring in 1978 as service manager. He was a member of Fellowship Lodge #345 AF and AM; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Joplin; and Forest Park Baptist Church.
He married Rosa Lee Moser on June 24, 1939 in Joplin. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Patricia King and her husband, Jim, Rogers, Ark.;one son, Michael B. Carlisle and his wife, Kaye, Miamisburg, Ohio; two sisters, Bonnie Cawyer and Virginia Johnson, both of Joplin; four grandchildren, David Mosabaugh and Lori Skeie, both of Marion, Iowa, Timothy Carlisle, Carlisle, Ohio, Bradley Carlisle, Waynesville, Ohio; seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Arnold Carlisle and one sister, Reitha Berry.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Russell Ball will officiate. Pallbearers will be David Mosbaugh, Ryan Flood, Clay Skeie, Lori Skeie, Jeffery Skeie, Jim King and Jim Kennedy. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Parker Mortuary Chapel.
Ronald L. Short
Ronald L. Short, 55, of Minneapolis, Minn., formerly of Joplin, died at 9:00 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2002.
He died in Little Rock, Ark., with his wife by his side.
He had been in Little Rock for several weeks for health-related treatments.
Ronald was born March 5, 1947, in Joplin, Mo., to Raymond and Maxine Douglas Short.
He was a graduate of Joplin High School with the Class of 1965.
He received his accounting degree from Missouri Southern State College.
He was a highly decorated veteran of the Vietnam War.
He has lived in Minneapolis for the last four years, moving there from Seattle, Wash.
He was in real estate investments.
Nadine Buckner
RACINE, Mo. - Nadine Buckner, age 71, of rural Racine, passed away at 10:53 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2002, after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Buckner was born Sept. 5, 1930, in Hiwassee, Ark., and had lived in the Joplin area most of her life. She was a cook for several area restaurants and hospitals. She was a Christian.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Fay Banta, eight brothers, one sister and a great-grandson, Brice.
She gave her life as a public servant and surrounded herself with her family, especially her great-grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Jackie Banta, Neosho, Mo.; a daughter, Mary Mullin, Neosho, Mo.; a brother, Bill Russow, Joplin, Mo.; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Bethel Cemetery, near Gravette, Ark., with the Rev. Charles Burnett officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday evening at the Mason-Woodard Chapel in Joplin. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
