Sadie R. Babb
Sadie Rebecca Babb, 58, died Feb. 27, 2006, at her home in Patterson, Mo.
She was born Jan. 5, 1948, in Wayne County, Mo., daughter of the late Claude and Una Belle (Harrison) Babb.
Mrs. Babb attended Rings Creek General Baptist Church in Patterson.
She enjoyed coloring beautiful pictures, shopping, having tea parties with her great-nieces, and playing with her dog, Lucy.
She is survived by one brother, Toney (Sue) Babb, Brunot; two sisters, Louise Allen, Margaret (Manuel) Allen, all of Piedmont; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Elizabeth Pruett, Lillian Allen, Juanita and Jane Babb.
The funeral was held March 1 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, with Rev. Jimmy Crutchfield and Rev. Gary Haynes officiating.
Music was provided by Lorrie and Jerry Montgomery and Kathy Hinklin.
Pallbearers were Gerald and Gerry Allen, Darrel Wilson, Richard Sanders, Kevin Carroll and Eugene Pruitt.
Burial was in Rings Creek Cemetery, Patterson.
Frieda Luna
Frieda Phillis Luna, 84, died Feb. 28, 2006, at Clark's Mountain Nursing Center in Piedmont, Mo.
She was born Feb. 1, 1922, near Clubb, Mo., daughter of the late Henry and Etta (Twidwell) Phillis.
She was united in marriage to William Marion Luna May 26, 1944, and he survives, residing in Piedmont.
Mrs. Luna graduated from Piedmont High School in 1940 and received a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1944. She taught commercial subjects in the Patterson High School during the 1945-46 school year.
She joined her husband as owner/operator of Luna Hardware and Auto Supplies in 1946 and continued for 44 years.
They also had business interests in Piedmont Furniture and Hardware, and she was a director of the Bank of Piedmont.
She became a member of the Piedmont United Methodist Church July 1, 1945, where she taught Sunday school and served as pianist for many years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth "Beth" (Alonzo Ross) Luna, Shrewsbury, Mass.; one son, William "Bill" Jr. (Jane Sheridan) Luna, Seattle, Wash.; one grandson, William A. Luna.
The funeral was held March 3 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, with Rev. W. Michael Woods officiating.
Eulogies were delivered by Jane Sheridan and Dr. Michael Toney.
Pallbearers were Dr. Michael Toney, Joe Kiser, Jeff Radford, Russ Moore, Bill Luna, Tom Ream, Kenneth Elrod and Leo Giovando.
Burial was in Masonic Cemetery.
Kevin G. Smith
Kevin G. Smith, 46, died July 13, 2004, at Parkland Medical Center in Farmington, Mo.
He was born June 3, 1958, in Peoria, Ill., son of C. Hughie and Maxine Smith, who survive and reside in Jackson.
He was united in marriage Feb. 25, 1979, to Mary K. Buchheit, and she survives, residing in Valles Mines.
Mr. Smith was owner/operator of Kevin Smith Farrier Service.
He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in French Village.
He graduated from Jackson High School in 1976 and from Murray State University with a BS in animal science.
He served his country for eight years in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of Desert Storm.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by two sons, 2nd Lt. Cormac Smith, currently stationed in Korea, Ian Smith of the home; two daughters, Tara (Michael) Baca, Mt. Home, Idaho, Brianna Smith of the home; siblings, Dr. Robin Dyer, Tulsa, Okla., C.W. (Shirley) Hughey, Texas, Sonja (Ken) Davis, Jackson; one granddaughter, Allison Baca.
The funeral was held July 19 at Sacred Heart Church, Crystal City, with Fr. Donald Dalton officiating.
Burial was in St. Anne Cemetery, French Village.
Gene Montgomery
Junior Eugene "Gene" Montgomery, 77, died July 15, 2004, in Greenville, Mo.
He was born March 12, 1927, in Wayne County, Mo., son of the late Floyd and June Montgomery.
He married Faye Shaefer and to this union, two children, Jerry and Jenny, were born.
He was united in marriage to Jean Hoskins July 2, 1966, and she survives, residing in Silva.
Mr. Montgomery worked at the St. Louis Plumbing Supply Company as a shipper and packer.
He loved the outdoors and restored old cars.
He was a member of the Open Word Apostolic Tabernacle in Patterson.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Jerry (Lori) Montgomery, Silva, Jenny Koch, Las Vegas, Nev., Cindy (James) McKittrick, Greenville; two brothers, Bill Montgomery, Washington, Mo., Lehman Montgomery, Piedmont; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two young sisters.
The funeral was held July 17 at Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Greenville, with Rev. Paul Hollingsworth, Rev. Mark Hunsberger and Rev. Jack McKillop officiating.
Music was provided by Cindy McKittrick, Marilee Ostrander and Bill Beshears.
Pallbearers were Melvin Dildine, John Haggett, Tommy Leach, Mike Kinnard, George Ploesser and Dennis Minks.
Burial was in George Twidwell Cemetery, Silva.
Viola L. Stevens
Viola Lorene Stevens, 89, died Aug. 4, 2004, in Bridgeton, Mo., from complications following surgery.
She was born Sept. 4, 1914, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., daughter of the late Jefferson Davis and Hattie (Stokely) Rainwater, third of eight children.
She was united in marriage to George W. Malloy, and from their union four children were born.
After his death, she married Rubin D. Stevens and had one son.
Viola moved from Missouri to Layton, Utah, in the late 1960s, where she operated an alteration business from her home for many years before moving back to Piedmont in the late 1970s.
She was a professional seamstress and sewed for many clothing stores, as well as uniforms for police departments and military servicemen.
She loved making quilts and other items and blessing others with them.
We will dearly miss her.
Surviving are four children, LoRene Cahoon, Layton, Utah, Sallye (Ned) Clark, Layton, Utah, Cari (Alan) Conner, Piedmont, Mike (Nancy) Stevens, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; four siblings, Hattie Mae Safferstone, Helen Selvidge, Lucille Tedescucci, Ellen McMillian; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, siblings, Dorothy Bosze, Wagner Rainwater, Harold Rainwater, son, George W. "Bud" Malloy, grandchildren, Cari Jean Malloy and Amber Dawn Conner, and one great-granddaughter, Brittany Clark.
The funeral was held Aug. 7 at Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Piedmont.
Burial was in Greenville Cemetery.
Cecil Vance
Cecil Vance, 77, died Aug. 3, 2004, in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
He was born Nov. 19, 1926, in Egypt, Ark., son of the late Howard and Irene (Ormsby) Vance.
He was united in marriage to Maxine Hampton Nov. 12, 1992, in Doniphan and she survives, residing in Piedmont.
Mr. Vance graduated from Piedmont High School in 1944 and was valedictorian of his class.
He was a merchant marine and served from 1945 until he retired as a 2nd officer in 1974.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Connie Cross, San Diego, Calif., Cecil Vance, Norman Vance, Johnny Robinson, all of Slidel, La.; four brothers, Dale Vance, St. Charles, Clinton Vance, Jackson, Ivan Vance, Sasche, Texas, Dwight Vance, Cedar Park, Texas; four stepchildren, Mike Warren, Donna Evans, Vicky Hampton, all of Piedmont, Tempa Sleeper, Pleasant Shade, Tenn.; four aunts, Clara Ormsby, Florissant, Arlie Ormsby, Doniphan, Pauline Sherman, Jefferson City, Clarice Vance, Beltone, Texas; 25 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one stepson, Maurice, and a baby sister, Jenna Faye Vance.
The funeral was held Aug. 6 at Flatwoods Cemetery near Piedmont with Sister Rita Schanhuff officiating.
Pallbearers were Tyler Vance, Dennis Smith, Scott Vance, Johnathan Vance, Trapper Barfield and Mike Warren.
Arrangements were under the direction of Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Piedmont.
Harriet Eichor
Harriet (Johnson) Eichor of Showlow, Ariz., died Aug. 8, 2004, in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Harriet grew up in Clubb and graduated from Greenville High School in 1956.
She is survived by her beloved husband Robert, children and grandchildren.
She will be sadly missed.
James R. Boatwright
James Roy Boatwright, 79, died Aug. 2, 2004, at Poplar Bluff Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
He was born Aug. 6, 1924, in Mill Spring, Mo., son of the late James and Dorothy (Hassell) Boatwright.
He was united in marriage to Anna Cargonia, and she preceded him in death.
Mr. Boatwright worked as a maintenance supervisor for Century Electric, and later, for Deaconess Hospital.
He attended Ijames Hill Church.
He is survived by one son, Robert L. Boatwright, St. Louis; one daughter, Betty Ann Brutcher, Dittmer; one brother, Don Boatwright, Imperial; one sister, Lucille Yates, Mill Spring; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Aug. 5 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, with Rev. Elmo Parker officiating.
Pallbearers were David Boatwright, Dennis Boatwright, Mark Holzhauer, Jake Thomas, Randy Payne, Bob Yates and Ben Butler.
Burial was in Carson Hill Cemetery, Mill Spring.
