John McDonald
MOUNT VERNON, Mo. - John Hanna McDonald, 69, Ash Grove route 2, died at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 1997, at a Mount Vernon nursing home after a short illness.
Mr. McDonald was born July 16, 1927, in Washington County, Pa.
He had lived in the Mount Vernon area since July 1996. He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include a sister, Hazel McDonald, Claysville, Pa.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at William G. Neal Funeral Home, Washington, Pa. Burial will be in Upper Buffalo Cemetery, Washington.
Local arrangements are by Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mount Vernon.
Jack Melugin
CARTERVILLE, Mo. - Jack Melugin, 69, Grass Valley, Calif., a former Carterville area resident, died Jan. 6, 1997, at Sutter Hospital, Roseville, Calif., after an accidental fall from a ladder at his home.
Mr. Melugin was born Jan. 19, 1927, in Avilla. He lived in the Carterville area until he was 16 and then moved to California. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater.
He married his wife, Joyce Melugin, on April 6, 1947, in Reseda, Calif. She survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Jack Melugin, Grass Valley, and Curtis Melugin, Nevada City, Calif.; two daughters, Lori Meeuwsen, Aloha, Ore., and Gail Scarborough, Auburn, Calif.; a brother, Floyd Melugin, Webb City; six sisters including a twin, Joyce Lewis, Grass Valley, Doris Wilson, Joplin, Juanita Atchison, Nancy Cowan and Roxanna Kidwell, all of Carthage, and Patty Barton, Humbolt, Kan.
Private burial services will be held today in Grass Valley.
Memorial services will be held Friday at Calvary Bible Church with Pastor Tim Lacey officiating.
Arrangements are under direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary, Grass Valley.
Contributions may be made to the Brazilian Missionary Effort, in care of Calvary Bible Church, Grass Valley.
Kathleen Presley
MONETT, Mo. - Services for Kathleen Ann Presley, 89, Costa Mesa, Calif., a former Monett resident, who died Monday, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, Monett.
The Rev. Mark Mildren will officiate. Burial will be in Crane Community Cemetery, Crane.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home, Monett.
Vesta Reid
CASSVILLE, Mo. - Vesta Ann Carterman Reid, 98, Cassville, died at 10 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997, at her home after a long illness.
Mrs. Reid was born Feb. 2, 1898, at Cassville. She was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Cassville.
Survivors include four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A son preceded her in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Williamson Funeral Home, Cassville, with the Rev. John Duncan officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Cassville.
Pallbearers will be Gene Allen, Chris Clark, Travis Clark, Daniel Garrett, Jamie Garrett, Jerry Ray Garrett, Randy Paul Garrett and Randy Lee Tully.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
Contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, in care of the funeral home.
Irene Albright
Irene Albright, 85, Joplin, died at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997, at a local nursing home after a short illness.
Mrs. Albright was born Dec. 12, 1911, in Joplin, where she was a lifelong resident. She was graduated in 1930 from Joplin High School and attended the former Ozark Wesleyan College, Carthage, and Pittsburg (Kan.) State University. She had been a third grade teacher for Alcott and Lafayette elementary schools and later a substitute teacher for Joplin R-VIII School District. She was a member of First Community Church, Zinc Rebekah Lodge No. 369, Ruth Chapter No. 177 of the Order of the Easter Star, Joplin Historical Society and Women's Guide.
Her husband, Ralph E. Albright, died in 1963.
Survivors include a son, Mike Albright, San Ramone, Calif.; a sister, Emma Belle Wilder, Joplin; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Parker Mortuary. Wayne VanGundy, minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Osborne Memorial Cemetery, Joplin.
The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. Saturday until service time at the mortuary.
Jack Holt
Jack G. Holt, 69, 3525 Connecticut Ave., died at 9:10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1996, at Freeman Hospital West after an illness.
Mr. Holt was born July 4, 1927, in Pittsburg, Kan. He moved to Joplin from Pittsburg in 1950. He received a bachelor's degree in education from Pittsburg State University. He taught history and mechanical arts at Carl Junction High School in 1953 and 1954.
He then worked as a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier for 30 years and retired in 1986. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was a scoutmaster of the church troop and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was a recipient of the scout's Golden Sun award on March 19, 1972. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He married Helen Hoagland on Dec. 30, 1950, in Joplin. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Michael G. Holt and Gregory P. Holt, both of Joplin; two sisters, Mildred Toomey, Joplin, and Wilma Franco, Long Island, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary. The Rev. Lowell Russow will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Le Roy Wilson, Jim Wisdom, Don Clark, Ray Jackson, Ray McCulley, Gerald Hance, Frank Carrico and Bill Troutman.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary.
Contributions may be made to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church organ fund.
Marguerite KempVanEe
Marguerite Fenix KempVanEe, 75, Willows, Calif., formerly of Joplin, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1996, in a Chico (Calif.) Hospital after a long illness.
Mrs. KempVanEe was born May 8, 1921, in Joplin. She came to Placerville, Calif., in 1936 and was graduated from Placerville High School. She and her husband had owned and operated Carter's Music Store in Willows.
She married Carter KempVanEe in Placerville. He died in 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Diana Osa, Willows; two brothers, Bill Fenix, Joplin, and Taylor Fenix, Fairland, Okla.; three sisters, Madalyn Hayes, Jerry Pierson and Virginia Smith, all of Joplin; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were Saturday, Dec. 28, 1996, at F.D. Sweet and Sons Mortuary in Willows. Burial was in Willows Cemetery.
