Ruth Houseman
AURORA, Mo. - Ruth E. Houseman, 75, Aurora, died at 1:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997, at a local nursing home after a long illness.
Mrs. Houseman was born Feb. 10, 1921, in the state of Oklahoma. She had lived in Aurora since 1976. She was a retired nurse.
Survivors include two sons, Craig Gentry and Benny Gentry, both of Marionville; two daughters, Ruth Forester and Billie Hargus, both of Aurora; a sister, Pearl Wagoner, Orosi, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
No services are planned.
Burial will be at a later date in the state of California.
Arrangements are under the direction of Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home, Aurora.
Edna McGehee
NEOSHO, Mo. - Edna McGehee, 96, Neosho, formerly of Mount Vernon, died at 1:20 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997, at a local nursing home after a long illness.
Mrs. McGehee was born Nov. 6, 1900, at Springfield. She moved to Neosho from Mount Vernon 15 years ago. She was a homemaker and a former member of Summit Baptist Church, northeast of Mount Vernon.
Her husband, Ernest Melvin McGehee, died in 1961.
Surviving are three sons, Bob McGehee, Lead Hill, Ark., Orville McGehee, Fort Scott, Kan., and Ernest McGehee, Boonville; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mount Vernon. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery, northeast of Mount Vernon.
Friends may call from noon to 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Joan Neil
CARL JUNCTION, Mo. - Joan Phillips Neil, 75, 306 N. Broadway, Carl Junction, died at 10:23 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997, at Freeman Hospital East, Joplin, after a long illness.
Ms. Neil was born July 20, 1921, at Belleville, Kan. She had been a seamstress at Elders Manufacturing in Webb City and Carl Junction. She was a member of Carl Junction United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Chris Phillips, Carl Junction, and Rodney Phillips, Shell Knob; a daughter, Judy Anderson, Oklahoma City, Okla.; a brother, Fred Ward, the state of Florida; two sisters, Esther Page, Branson, and Lois Jones, Joplin; and five grandchildren.
The body has been cremated. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin.
The Rev. Bob Simon will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home, Webb City.
Denton Pitts
MONETT, Mo. - Denton Ashby Pitts, 76, Monett, died at 6:56 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997, at McCune-Brooks Hospital, Carthage, after a long illness.
Mr. Pitts was born July 10, 1920, at Monett, where he was a lifetime resident. He owned and operated Denny's Woodworking Shop at Monett. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Monett.
Survivors include three brothers, Leon Pitts, Sunnyvale, Calif., Don Pitts, Winter Haven, Fla., and Bill Pitts, Neosho; and two sisters, Ella Horner, Rogers, Ark., and Jennetta Ebner, Monett.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett. The Rev. Mark Mildren will officiate. Burial will be in Monett I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to Loaves and Fishes meal delivery program or First United Methodist Church.
Sierra Collins
Services for Sierra Danielle Collins, 3, daughter of Daniel and Angela Collins, Joplin, who died Saturday, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Klingner Mortuary, Springfield.
The Rev. Carlton Coon will officiate.
Graveside services and burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Harold Jones
Harold H. Jones, 84, 2414 Kansas Ave., died at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 1997, at Freeman Hospital West after a long illness.
Mr. Jones was born June 22, 1912, at Des Moines, Iowa. He had lived 24 years in Joplin, moving from Des Moines, where he was a U.S. postal carrier, retiring in 1971. He was a member of Park Avenue Christian Church, Des Moines.
He married Valda Smith on April 4, 1936, at Newton, Iowa. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, Kenneth E. Jones, Des Moines; a daughter, Carole Vuwalda, Ames, Iowa; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton's, near Highland Memory Gardens, Des Moines. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens, Des Moines.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
Contributions may be made to the American Lung Society in care of the funeral home.
Kevin Lowry
Kevin D. Lowry, 40, Joplin, died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
Mr. Lowry was born July 13, 1956, at Culver City, Calif. He moved to Joplin in 1974 from the state of California. He was a graduate of the former Parkwood High School in Joplin. He was a technician for Office Concepts in Joplin for 18 years.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Joplin. He was a veteran of the Navy.
Survivors include his father, Robert D. Lowry, Joplin; and a sister, Deborah Wenk, Cave Junction, Ore.
Graveside services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Duane Trimble will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Parker Mortuary.
