William Cooper
CASSVILLE, Mo. - William Thomas Cooper, 87, Cassville, died at 7:26 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997, at St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield, after a long illness.
Mr. Cooper was born Feb. 22, 1909, at Cassville. He graduated from high school in Springfield and worked in Alaska and California shipyards during World War II. He was a welder. For several years before his retirement, he worked as a booster-station foreman for gas and oil companies in Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Texas and New Mexico.
He married Ceola Mae Baker on Oct. 2, 1937, at Springfield. She died Sept. 20, 1982.
Surviving are three brothers, J.T. Cooper, Springfield, Colo., Donald Cooper, Los Angeles, Calif., and Bryce Cooper, Nashville, Tenn.; and two sisters, Anna Plumb, Springfield, and Shirley Nolen, Mountainburg, Ark.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Williamson Funeral Home, Cassville. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cassville.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Clarence Fetter
EXETER, Mo. - Clarence Adam Fetter, 60, Exeter, died at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997, at his home after a sudden illness.
Mr. Fetter was born Jan. 18, 1936, at Palmyra, Ill. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and retired from that military branch in 1975. He moved to Exeter four years ago from Fresno, Calif.
Surivors include a son, Steven Fetter, state of California; three daughters, Teresa Johnson, Fresno, Carol Pena, Clovis, Calif., and Jeannie Cox, Tacoma, Wash.; three stepdaughters, Wanda Powell and Karon Yancy, both of Fresno, and Linda Golding, Torrance, Calif.; three sisters, Dean Stouffee, Corsica, Texas, Dorothy Pratt, Palmyra, and Norma Williams, Illiopolis, Ill.; 11 stepgrandchildren and seven great-step-grandchildren.
The body has been cremated. Services will be at a later date in California.
Arrangements are under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home, Cassville.
Annie Hackney
NEVADA, Mo. - Annie Lee Hackney, 98, Nevada, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 1997, at a local nursing home after a long illness.
Mrs. Hackney was born Oct. 6, 1898, at Moundville. She was a lifelong Vernon County resident. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Community Christian Church, Nevada.
She married John Harvey Hackney on March 17, 1930, in Nevada. He preceded her in death.
There are no immediate survivors.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at Moore Cemetery, Nevada, with the Rev. Wes Anderson officiating.
Friends may call until 9:30 a.m. today at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
Ruby Johnson
GRANBY, Mo. - Ruby May Metcalf Johnson, 83, Granby, died at 12:15 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, at a local nursing home after a long illness.
Mrs. Johnson was born Oct. 18, 1913, at Powell. She was a lifelong area resident. She was a member of Chapel of the Ozarks, Rocky Comfort.
She married Leo R. Johnson on April 26, 1947, at Neosho. He died Feb. 17, 1991.
Survivors include two sons, Carroll Gene Alexander, Shell Knob, and Leo Ray Johnson Jr., Granby; a daughter, Ruth Nadean Armstrong, Ritchey; a sister, Martha Pritchett, Webb City; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Granby Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. Fred Franks officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Granby.
Ruth Landis
NEOSHO, Mo. - Ruth Rebecca Landis, 97, Clovis, N.M., a former Neosho resident, died at 8:10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 1997, at a Clovis nursing home after a three-year illness.
Mrs. Landis was born Aug. 20, 1899, at Eureka Springs, Ark. She moved to Neosho in 1960 from the state of Oklahoma. She had lived in Clovis since 1993. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Neosho Congregational Church and the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Neosho.
She married David "Tom" Landis on April 29, 1923. He died April 25, 1973.
Survivors include a son, David M. Landis, Clovis; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho. The Rev. Tom Thorne will officiate. Burial will be at Neosho IOOF Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Helen Lilly
MOUNT VERNON, Mo. - Helen Elizabeth Lilly, 84, Mount Vernon, died at 4:47 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, at St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield, after a short illness.
Mrs. Lilly was born March 25, 1912, at Springfield. She was a lifelong area resident. She was a member of St. Susanne Catholic Church, Mount Vernon.
Her husband, James August Lilly, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Rick Lilly, Mount Vernon, and Thomas Lilly, Monett.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Susanne Catholic Church. The Rev. Monsignor Westhues will officiate. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery, Springfield.
Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mount Vernon.
Contributions may be made to the Barry-Lawrence Association of Retarded Citizens, Monett, in care of the funeral home.
Bernadine McCrite
NEOSHO, Mo. - Vera Bernadine McCrite, 89, Kent, Wash., a former Neosho resident, died at 10:25 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 1997 at her home after a short illness.
Mrs. McCrite was born Jan. 1, 1908, in Neosho. She graduated from Neosho High School and from the former Joplin Business College. She had worked for a Neosho attorney, Leo Johnson; at Neosho High School; and as a clerk in the Newton County probate and magistrate courts.
She then moved to Austin, Texas, where she worked as a secretary in the estate and gift-tax division of the Internal Revenue Service. She retired in December 1972 and moved to Joplin. She moved to Kent in 1988.
She was a former member of Joplin First Christian Church and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the American Association of Retired People.
Her husband, Ira E. McCrite, died in 1947.
Survivors include a daughter, Paula Jean Gillmore, Kent; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Neosho IOOF Cemetery. The Rev. Fred Pugh will officiate.
Pallbearers will be George Henry, Dwight Douglas, Eldon Morgan, Fred Clark and Dick Reed.
The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
